00:06Jennifer Johnson Carroll of Florida, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago,
00:09has been nominated by President Trump to replace Candace Bund,
00:13who returned to the U.S. in January of last year.
00:16The nomination, which appears on the website of the White House,
00:19has to be approved by the U.S. Senate.
00:21And the day after the White House announced the nomination,
00:24it was welcomed by the American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:28AmCham TNT said the nomination marks an important step in the appointment process
00:33and reflects the continued importance of the longstanding relationship
00:37between Trinidad and Tobago and the United States.
00:40Trinidad and Tobago has been without a U.S. ambassador
00:43since the departure of Candace Bund in January of last year.
00:47In 2022, Ms. Bund was chosen by the then U.S. President Joe Biden
00:52and arrived in Trinidad and Tobago to serve as a U.S. ambassador in December of 2022,
00:57but returned to the U.S. following the election of President Trump.

01:06until the appointment of the next U.S. ambassador.

01:13and her nomination is particularly noteworthy
01:16since, if confirmed by the U.S. Senate,
01:18she would become the first Trinidad and Tobago-born woman
01:21to serve as U.S. ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago.
