00:00For the past ten years, the PNM has ruled the Aranguiz-St. Joseph constituency with
00:05Terence D. L. Singh being the MP for the area. This time around, it's a three-way battle
00:11with the UNC putting forward Devish Maharaj. He will be going up against political leader
00:16in the National Transformation Alliance, Gary Griffith, and Minister of Health, Terence
00:20D. L. Singh. Maharaj says he is confident in contesting what is being considered one
00:25of the most marginal seats in the country.
00:29It is marginal, yes, and it has taken a lot of work so far. We are fighting the incumbent,
00:38Mr. D. L. Singh. He has been here for three terms. But I want to tell you that it's been
00:43very encouraging. The support from the ground has told us that it is very likely that we
00:49will win this seat.
00:51Political leader of the NTA, Gary Griffith, was the first to file his nomination papers
00:56at the St. Joseph Community Centre. He wished his fellow candidates best of luck.
01:01The two other candidates, Mr. D. L. Singh and Mr. Maharaj, I wish them the best. I have
01:07absolutely nothing negative to say about these two individuals. I know them well. I have
01:11the rule of respect for them. I think St. Joseph has very good options. They have three
01:15very good candidates. If it is that the media is expecting me to say anything negative in
01:21any way about these two gentlemen, not at all. I think I may be the better candidate
01:25to represent St. Joseph.
01:27He says it's very unfortunate that citizens are allowing politics to divide the country.
01:32One of the two candidates has actually, and who is a friend of mine, he has actually been
01:35given instructions not to speak to me. And when you get that type of division, that is
01:39what has destroyed this country, the politics, where we have seen accusations being made
01:43of political parties paying $3 million for persons to get safe seats. We're getting accusations
01:49of third parties being paid off by the PNM and the UNC. We have situations where political
01:53parties have hired somebody who has admitted he's a social media prostitute and he's brought
01:57in just to attack other persons.
01:59However, the incumbent, Terence Deol Singh, says he is confident that he will win the
02:04seat once again and calls on the national community to be wary of the promises made
02:09by the opposition leader. He said that she will drain the economy in six months if elected.
02:14You see, for the first six months, if she wins, everything will be fine. Public servants
02:20who are getting 10%, they will be able to go to courts and buy TV. They will be able
02:25to go to answer and buy a car. But after six months when she runs out of money, those same
02:32public servants, those same CPEP workers, those same URP workers, when she can't afford
02:38to pay them after six months, we will have to devalue 15 to 1. And what will be the fate
02:45of this country?
