00:00We could end up by 4 o'clock, 5 o'clock today.
00:04We find out what the fate of A.J. Brown is and whether or not he will be in a
00:08Patriots jersey.
00:09And it seems like the closer you get to 4 o'clock, the price is dropping, at least what some
00:17are speculating on.
00:18Oh, is it? What are they saying now?
00:20I've seen now that it's not a first round.
00:23I've seen some speculate that it's not going to be a first rounder.
00:26It's a second and a fourth rounder.
00:30I know. I mean, I would have given up the first round pick.
00:32So if it's a second, that's even better for New England.
00:36So based on what everybody tells us, my expectation is that it happens.
00:41If it doesn't happen today, I'm pretty much all set that it'll happen tomorrow.
00:46So, I mean, isn't that really what everybody has told me here over the past several weeks?
00:51Well, I mean, there's been a bunch of stuff lately that they may push it out.
00:55It may be the end of the week.
00:57So as to avoid the appearance of tampering or whatnot.
01:03I was thinking about that, though, Greg.
01:04So, like, work with me.
01:06The only reason we're doing this today as a transaction is for the manner in which the Eagles can handle
01:13their accounting.
01:14Correct?
01:14Yes.
01:15So, if they agreed to a deal in principle three months ago, who cares?
01:21Right.
01:21It's not tampering.
01:23It's the Eagles.
01:24So the Patriots said, here's the offer.
01:27Let's make a firm agreement on it.
01:29And then on the first, he'll come here.
01:31Just like you used to see the – or the NBA still does draft day deals where a team will
01:35draft a player that the other team wants them to pick.
01:38And then they will move him after the draft.
01:40And to me, this, like – the easiest way to do this is it's a first-round pick if he
01:45hits certain incentives.
01:47And it's a second-round pick if he gets hurt.
01:50Like, that, to me, is like – that's the fairest way to do the deal.
01:52So, sorry, Michael, but I think you said this last week, or somebody said it.
01:57If you're willing to take a backup offensive lineman in the first round who you know is probably not going
02:03to play this year,
02:04why wouldn't you be willing to give up a first-round pick to get solidified, you know, top 10, top
02:1012 wide receiver?
02:12Yeah.
02:12I mean, I would assume that they –
02:14If they don't have to, why would they?
02:15Yeah.
02:15But why would they?
02:16Yeah.
02:16But in the end, they probably are.
02:18I mean, the argument against that is that he's 29 years old and he's a rental.
02:25And so, you know, that's the argument against giving away a one.
02:30But, like I've said –
02:31For what, three years, though?
02:32It doesn't have three years remaining on this contract?
02:34I think it's two.
02:35Is it two?
02:35All right.
02:36I think it's two.
02:37But whatever it is, I like – Wiggy, I'm with you.
02:41I want him to win now, and I want him to win when Drake May is cheap.
02:45So, I'm okay with – whatever it ends up being, I'm okay with it.
02:49And the only issue becomes if somebody else suddenly, out of the blue today, is willing to swoop in and
02:58give Howie something better than the Patriots are willing to give.
03:02And if Schefter and everybody else, for the most part, other than Ian Rappaport's reporting, is all accurate, then that
03:08would be, like, just the most mishandling by the Patriots if somebody's able to swoop in right under your nose
03:15and steal him from you.
03:16Because it seems that this has been at least a handshake agreement for weeks, if not months, at this time.
03:22And it also feels like Howie Roseman – or it doesn't feel like – Howie Roseman is maybe the most
03:26respected GM in the NFL right now.
03:28So, like, I don't think a guy like that would be handling this in a dishonest way.
03:33No, and I think based on what Greg, you were saying, I think the only sticking point – or not
03:39a sticking point, but the only kind of where we meet in the middle of the road was whether it's
03:44a first-round pick or a second-round pick.
03:46Whether it's this year's, I mean, 2027's first-round pick, or whether it's the following year, or whether Philadelphia –
03:53if New England's like, no, we're not doing it, and Philly's like, all right, we'll take the second round.
03:57I feel like that's been the only issue because you kind of know what the money is.
04:01Well, I was just going to say, like, I hope that they're not thinking this way.
04:05The only way I could think with, like, 2027, 2028, when the 2027 draft is supposed to be really good.
04:11But we kind of say that, like, a year out, and then a month before it's like, oh, this draft
04:16actually sucks.
04:17Well, Shyam is the only one who can really determine –
04:21This is true, Shyam.
04:22The professor knows.
04:24The difference between 27 and 28?
04:26Yeah, the big difference is there's going to be a lot more quarterbacks in this upcoming draft, which is why
04:30teams who need quarterbacks are going to be aggressive towards the top of the draft.
04:34I think it's overall deeper than this past year.
04:36I don't know exactly how much the top-level talent will be better than this year's top-level talent.
04:41I was told there were multiple nights on the honeymoon where Lauren put on something scandalous and said, Shyam, will
04:50you please come to bed?
04:51And he said, no, I am watching draft tape.
04:54I will be in bed.
04:55Shyam.
04:56Nothing better than grinding tape on the balcony in Hawaii, Greg, and nothing but your boxers.
05:00Like Belichick.
05:01Good morning, Greg.
05:03So today is, in fact, A.J. Brown Day.
05:05We mentioned that at the beginning of the show, and it's extremely important that this gets done.
05:09I was watching my guy Drake hit some softballs at his charity event, and all I could think about was
05:15how great of a season it would be for the New England Patriots if they acquired A.J. Brown and
05:20how it feels still that with the additions this team has made and then adding a player like A.J.
05:27Brown, the path to winning the division is still there.
05:30I know people are going to complain about the strength of schedule.
05:33I don't know how much you guys have talked about A.J. Brown in anticipation of this day over the
05:37last couple weeks.
05:38Never mentioned it.
05:39Yeah, completely disconnected, to be completely honest.
05:42And so I figured I'd just throw it out there because I just think that by adding A.J. Brown,
05:48I think this offense is going to be insanely, insanely good.
05:52Like 5,000 yards out of Drake May is very much in the realm of possibility.
05:56I think A.J. Brown makes this receiver core legitimately one of the better ones in the NFL.
06:01When you slide Romeo Dobbs from one to two, he becomes a really good receiver, and then everybody else kind
06:07of finds their place behind him.
06:09And so I just think that it would just kind of unify everything that they've built so far on offense.
06:15The offensive line obviously is going to be a question, but in the regular season, it wasn't much of an
06:19issue for this team, and I think that would remain the same in the regular season.
06:24So I'm really hoping for the A.J. Brown news later today, and I expect nearly 5,000 yards from
06:30Drake May this season when they do.
06:32Okay, you said later today.
06:33When do you actually expect it?
06:34Do you think it is after 4 o'clock today?
06:36Do you think it's tomorrow?
06:37Do you think it's Friday?
06:38I'll put a timestamp on it, Greg.
06:407.30 tonight.
06:42Okay.
06:42All right.
