00:00I'm Destiny Jackson here with Deadline, and we're at Netflix FYCLA.
00:05I'm going to be talking to the cast and crew of Beef Season 2.
00:12Oscar Isaac, Carrie Mulligan of Beef Season 2, the stars of Beef Season 2.
00:17Your relationship in the show feels very grounded, very authentic.
00:22Felt like doing a play, in a way.
00:24A lot of the scenes that we were doing, your life bleeds into whatever you're making all the time.
00:28Yeah, pulling from all those different things, but with a bit of compassion and humor.
00:32We love each other, so we hope that that comes through, even through all of the horrible ways that we
00:38treat each other in the show.
00:40I wrote this part specifically for her, and I pitched her really hard.
00:44She, you know, really, I think, was enjoying some of the stuff that she hasn't gotten to, you know, really
00:51do before in her career, like having a husband that's 20 years younger.
00:54That was very interesting to me, because in Korean culture, no Korean director is brave enough to use me as
01:03an older woman who has a 20 years younger husband.
01:09I want to ask you about costumes.
01:11How did you display Korean wealth versus West Coast wealth?
01:15Korean wealth is just, there's like a, such a sophistication to it.
01:19And there's like a real emphasis on kind of like a luxurious Kashmiri comfort.
01:25I think there's something about California wealth that is trying to like whisper.
01:30You know, when you have such good actors, it's just about finding the balance between what feels real.
01:36And with them, everything feels real.
01:37So it was actually really challenging to pick the best take, but I think we got it.
01:41And luckily we had Phineas's music guiding the whole thing.
01:44You know, the same thing that is the joy of being involved in making music for a show like this
01:49is also just the pressure,
01:50which is like, you have all of these people, Jake, Sonny, the entire cast.
01:54I want to make music that really lives up to all of this hard work and craftsmanship on the whole
01:59season.
02:00There are things that we like to keep as far as an approach to the way scenes are constructed and
02:04whose perspective it is.
02:05But then there also is this real desire to kind of open up the season to more color and also
02:10like you've got many more perspective characters and really kind of digging in how to express all of those perspectives.
02:15I think that was kind of the biggest challenge and biggest sort of opportunity of expanding the season.
02:21How was your experience working on the show with Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac?
02:26I mean, with Carey, I think we had such a trust in each other.
02:30Every day we locked in.
02:32We locked in.
02:33You were my rock.
02:34Yeah, you were my rock.
02:36Thank you so much for joining us.
02:37Thank you so much for joining us.
