00:00Are you thinking that yesterday might have been the start of something?
00:04At least the last four games where the bats are waking up,
00:07because that's all you've needed.
00:08The pitching is in the right place.
00:09All you needed is some sort of offense.
00:13And, my God, you got it.
00:15And you got it against the best team in the league.
00:17And you're not going to have to wait long to find out if they can follow this up,
00:19because first pitch is at 410,
00:21and Chris Sale is going to be standing there on the mound.
00:23And speaking of big bats,
00:25everyone wants to know when Roman Anthony is coming back.
00:27We had Chad Tracy in studio yesterday.
00:30And he gave us a pretty good answer.
00:31And it did sound to me, it didn't even sound to me,
00:34he straight up told us pretty much that there was going to be time he's going to be spending.
00:38They're going to send him down, try to get some games under his belt.
00:41It's not going to be simply he feels better,
00:43and all of a sudden he's back in the lineup.
00:45And didn't you guys, did you not agree with me that that,
00:48I'm getting a feeling of after the All-Star break.
00:51Doesn't that timeline seem about right?
00:52Absolutely. I say late June.
00:54Give me June 27th.
00:55So a few games before the All-Star break?
00:58Yeah, yeah.
00:59Sure.
01:00A little morsel to keep you hanging around.
01:01Why not?
01:02And this morning on the Greg Hill Show,
01:04they had on Craig Breslow.
01:05He's a weekly guest, right?
01:06Like he's on there,
01:07because I know that sometimes it's weekly and sometimes it's weekly off.
01:10He and Sam Kennedy rotate.
01:11So it's the front office support.
01:12Thursday's at 9.
01:13So Breslow was on today,
01:14and apparently Bres is a big-time listener of the Rich Ken and Ted show.
01:19We call those people in the industry a P1.
01:21Let's take a listen.
01:22I thought Chad explained the situation really well.
01:27I think it was yesterday when he was talking about Roman where I think when you say, hey, you know,
01:31the rate at which he returns is going to be driven by his pain tolerance.
01:36It opens up to criticism that, you know, someone isn't tough enough to play through discomfort.
01:43That's not what we're talking about.
01:45You know, if Roman could go out there and perform at a high level and be the guy that we
01:50know he's capable of being and it would hurt, he would do it.
01:53The issue is when the discomfort prevents you from going out there and playing the way you're capable of.
02:00So that's what we're working through.
02:01But the last couple of days have definitely been really good progress.
02:04Yeah, they are trying to shut that down.
02:05And honestly, you can thank us for asking them and saying, you've kind of got to be careful with that
02:09pain tolerance thing.
02:11Yeah, but is that a mental thing?
02:12Like, in other words, if you can convince yourself that the pain's not affecting your swing, then fight through it.
02:19You know what I mean?
02:20Have you ever had tennis elbow before?
02:24Sure.
02:24I heard it sucks.
02:25I've never had it.
02:26So try playing golf with tennis elbow.
02:30It's not in the elbow, but it's in his finger.
02:33But imagine every time you hit the ball, it sends a shock.
02:38You're not going to be swinging as smoothly.
02:41You're not going to be as fluid.
02:43You're going to be thinking about what's about to happen once you make contact with that ball.
02:47I think there's that dynamic at play.
02:50And so all the golfers that have had tennis elbow that have played golf know what I'm talking about.
02:54It can't be.
02:57The anticipation of the pain coming is going to affect how you swing the bat.
03:01But yet you were hard on Tatum for not playing through the calf.
03:05I feel like it's a little different.
03:06I don't know why.
03:07Because it's game seven?
03:09Yeah, that's a big part of it.
03:10Can I also say that it was also because at the end of the game, he said that he would
03:14have played in the next series if they moved on?
03:17Yeah, that was not great.
03:17That's not a good look.
03:18Nope, nope, nope.
03:20But does Tracy convince you when you ask him pain tolerance?
03:24In a way, it can be described as that.
03:26But also no at the same time.
03:28I mean, I can tell you why he answered that.
03:32It's because that phrase had been used by the organization already.
03:36But I think they understood that that was a mistake.
03:38I agree.
03:39And I like the fact they kind of are coming to the kid's back, having his back a little bit.
03:44They're not throwing him under the bus.
03:46There was maybe we were implying maybe potentially that there was a disconnect.
03:51Well, because they're desperate, right?
03:52You can understand why.
03:53I mean, they're getting crushed here.
03:55Yeah, but you don't want to be desperate with the kid that you put all the pressure on to start
04:00the season.
04:01That's not the right person to be putting the pressure on.
04:04And I said this yesterday, and as I said, you, Ted, have a better understanding of this than anybody.
04:10When you are a player on a team and the team floats out that the reason you're not playing is
04:14pain tolerance,
04:15they immediately think you're a puss.
04:18Like, they're like, this guy's just a puss and he won't get out there.
04:20They might as well just come up and say it to my face.
04:21Ted, we think you're a puss.
04:22Yeah.
04:23Yeah.
04:23That's exactly what they're saying.
04:24Yep.
04:25Yeah.
04:27They're suggesting it when they come up and ask you how you're feeling.
04:30Like, you know, I'll let you know.
04:33It's like, but when you ask me every day how I'm feeling, you're basically telling me I'm a puss.
04:37So that was another indicator that, and how they thought about your injury.
04:41That's okay.
04:42How does it feel to be on the other side of that?
04:44When it's someone from the team, whether it's the medical staff or a coach, you're injured.
04:48And they come up to you and they're like, how you feeling, Ted?
04:51Yeah.
04:51What does it feel to be on the other side of that?
04:53Just asking that question.
04:53It just tells you everything as a player.
04:55Like, yeah, I'm getting there.
04:58Like, so then they put you on the spot and you got to, you know, you kind of like, they're
05:02reading your reaction to their question.
05:04Do they go to the medical team, like, through you or do they go to you directly?
05:07Belichick?
05:08Yeah.
05:08Please.
05:09Agency doesn't call agents.
05:10He calls you.
05:12Medical staff, he doesn't call them.
05:13He calls you.
05:14Bill was different.
05:15But you would think most coaches would go to the medical staff.
05:18But, you know, some coaches.
05:19Because Rabel has said that.
05:20Like, is it a pain?
05:21Is it something where you can do more damage?
05:23Or is it, you know, the other kind where you could play through it?
05:26That's his question always when it comes to injuries.
05:29Yeah.
05:29Yeah.
05:29Which makes sense.
05:30Yeah, it does.
05:31And I will tell you, I've talked to a doctor that used to be a doctor with the Red Sox.
05:35And I was always told that compared, it's a different, it's a totally different sport.
05:39So I don't put the baseball players.
05:41He's always kind of, he just didn't have a lot of respect for the pain tolerance in baseball players.
05:46Yeah.
05:46Because he was a doctor for both teams.
05:48But I just think the sports are very different.
05:50And it's just, it's hard for me to kind of hold Roman to the same standard I would a football
05:55player.
05:55Or even a Jason Tatum.
05:57Well, if I'm Rogan.
05:57I'm sorry, real quick.
05:58Why do I imagine Bill asking you how you're doing or how you're feeling in front of other players?
06:05Oh, bro.
06:05That's such a good, right after the team meeting.
06:07Before we've all dispersed, he comes up to you and asks you, you know, are you going to go today?
06:14Or how's it feeling?
06:15While the other guys are sitting there and, you know, they're ready to go through hell.
06:19Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:20He knows what he's doing.
06:20But if you're Roman, don't you wish the team had said, we don't want him to make it worse.
06:24Just, even if it's not true, just throw it out there.
06:26That makes sense.
06:27Which they haven't said.
06:27No, they have not said that.
06:28They haven't.
06:29I'm going to give them a little bit of credit for what they've been saying the last few days.
06:33Because I think that they realized they stepped in it by throwing it out there that this was pain tolerance.
06:37And Chad, obviously, who is, you know, it seems to be a player's coach.
06:41And is close to a lot of these guys.
06:43I think he realized, all right, man, I need to get the word out there that pain tolerance means something
06:47completely different.
06:48When you, the pain is so bad that you can't hold your bat.
06:51And you can't, like, when you hit a ball, the pain is so bad that you want to drop said
06:55bat.
06:56So I think that they've done a decent job covering their tracks and the hole they put themselves in.
07:01It is interesting, though, how kind of they've handled both the young, you know, what we hope is budding stars
07:09and Marcello Meyer and Roman Anthony.
07:10I mean, AC was tough on Marcello.
07:13Yeah.
07:13He had to earn his spot.
07:14Right.
07:14You know, he did not, you know, like, Marcello's got to come in and he's got to earn his roster
07:19spot.
07:19That was the narrative coming in.
07:21And now a little bit of the gamesmanship, I think, with Roman until now they've kind of reversed course on
07:26that.
07:26But it's interesting how, you know, the Red Sox have kind of put pressure on both those guys in their
07:33ways, different ways already this season.
07:36I want to give Greg and Chris Curtis, too.
07:38He did a good job asking some tough questions this morning of Craig Breslow.
07:40I want to give them credit because they asked, really, most of the stuff that we wanted to know.
07:44There was one question, and I'm throwing this at you out of nowhere, Stiz, so if you can find it.
07:48They asked him about what the plans were about getting a big bat.
07:51Do you have that clip by any chance?
07:54They asked, oh, you got it, Stiz?
07:55Okay, let's hear it.
07:57Sam kind of alluded to this last week, but just to be clear from you, are you aggressively looking to
08:03add a bat to this lineup?
08:05We are aggressively trying to improve our team, and certainly adding a bat and adding offense is one way to
08:13do that.
08:14We're not going to be closed off to other ways, you know, and I think the possibility that that could
08:20be in addition from outside the organization is real.
08:24But when we're having conversations with other teams, as all teams do, there aren't too many that are in a
08:30position to commit to a path in 2026 because there's not a ton of separation across the teams in the
08:38American League, right?
08:39There's four above 500, and there's a bunch of teams that are sitting around saying, we haven't played very well,
08:44but this thing hasn't gotten away from us yet.
08:46Ken, do you buy that, or is he shoveling it?
08:48Well, I didn't like that he said adding offense is one way.
08:51Okay, what other way would there be to fix the team?
08:54Like, what are you talking about?
08:54Maybe get a manager.
08:56Maybe, maybe, but...
08:57That's not the only way to do it.
08:58I mean, we could, I don't know, what, do a rain dance?
09:01Like, what the hell?
09:01I mean, possibility is real.
09:03He did say the possibility is real.
09:05Yeah.
09:05Okay, so that's good.
09:07I like that.
09:07The possibility is real.
09:08I'm going to hang on that and say, yes, he's talking to people.
09:12Aggressively, though.
09:13Aggressively?
09:14That didn't sound aggressive.
09:15That sounded like we're monitoring the situation.
09:17That's totally what I mean.
09:18He's basically saying, I think he's basically saying everybody in the American League is
09:21kind of staying put because they don't really know what they have just yet because all these
09:25teams are all bunched up.
09:26I am kind of scared that if they continue this, you know, little offensive burst that they've
09:31had, that they might just say, why don't we just sit in our hands and wait until Roman
09:34Anthony comes back?
09:35Damn right, they're going to think that.
09:36Are you kidding me?
09:37So should I be rooting for them to not actually do as well as they have been lately?
09:40In a way, it can be described as that, but also no at the same time.
09:45Keep that.
09:45That is really an all-timer clip.
09:47That is fantastic.
09:48Yes, an amazing question by me.
