00:00I like with Roman Anthony it's like everybody is like yo this dude is legit yeah right so you
00:07gotta live up to that in Boston yeah and the thing for me is this is incredibly incredibly rare
00:13that the Red Sox had the number one prospect in all of baseball that he got up last year and
00:18performed and now I mean the home run he hit I don't know if it was yesterday or Tuesday Tuesday
00:23I mean this thing was like 500 feet I just watched it yeah like he has the right mindset he
00:29has the
00:30skills you could be at the ground floor I mean this is a guy that will be if everything goes
00:35the
00:35way it should go one of the great Boston Red Sox players of all time like he has that skill
00:39set
00:39you saw him last year he was phenomenal he was 20 he's 21 years old but I guess I would
00:46ask the
00:46question this right because we haven't seen I gotta think when's the last time we've seen this
00:53where somebody was this young and had this much expectation Alex Rodriguez no I'm talking about
01:03here in Boston oh Nomar okay was Nomar in that because I can't remember like early Nomar and that
01:10was he in that same world like because you look at like football or basketball I don't think there
01:16was ever been that player where you had like the number one overall pick and he's it and I'm not
01:21saying I'm comparing him to it but just around here locally like he's like the chosen one the
01:27LeBron James of what we've seen has there have we seen that before by a young player coming into an
01:34organization where he is viewed it's not even coming into an organization because it's homegrown
01:39at this point well no but you know what I'm saying like the number one overall pick you're in in
01:44basketball or you know you're the lottery pick number one overall pick in football yeah Nomar was the
01:4912th pick in the draft in 1994 out of Georgia Tech and so he didn't have quite this you know
01:55like he
01:56like the the Roman Anthony is locally is like the LeBron James aura of like he's the chosen well
02:04Nomar was he owned this town Nomar I mean he was Nomar's better but did he did Nomar I guess
02:10the
02:10comparison I'm trying to make did Nomar have that aura around them before he really even did anything
02:18because I feel like with Roman Anthony this aura has been around him before he's kind of really
02:25even did anything like you're talking about before he made his MLB debut there was a lot of talk of
02:31like why is it taking so long for them to bring him up he should be up to here who
02:35he is yeah you
02:36know what I mean I guess in terms of hype it's not a young player but Dice K was kind
02:40of crazy he
02:41hadn't pitched here everybody said he had the guy row ball and all that right but that but that's
02:45what I'm saying he he was somebody that wasn't so young like I would on the text line a few
02:51Hanley Ramirez and Ellsbury those are the two that are popping up yeah see I don't I don't I don't
02:58remember what they're like you know they're they're like status was when they were coming in you know
03:03because I feel like if the way that we look at Roman Anthony would be like how we would look
03:09at
03:09the number one overall pick at the quarterback position or the number one basketball player
03:17in the country like the Cooper flag of what we were talking about last year when Cooper flag was coming
03:23out well then could you say like when they got Jason Tatum no no because even with Jason Tatum like
03:29I think people thought he was good but he didn't have the aura of like you know people are saying
03:34he would could be the best Celtics player in Celtics history or you know one of the best like
03:40even when you got Jason Tatum I don't think there were people saying that like well Roman Anthony it's
03:45people talk about him like he could be one of the the greatest Red Sox players to ever play for
03:51the
03:51organization yeah so I'm looking up other guys so Clemens was picked 19th in the first round
03:56Nomar was 12th like I Ellsbury was 23rd and I'm just asking because of that that type of pressure
04:03so Clemens is the I wasn't um alive for I mean I was I guess two but like I didn't
04:09feel the like
04:10I got the rocket in the 90s I think but even in any other sport so other sports somebody just
04:15said
04:15Tyler Sagan Joe Thornton maybe Tyler Sagan could be a good one wasn't Joe Thornton first picked
04:22in the draft I think yeah maybe Joe Sagan was second overall yeah maybe maybe um Joe Thornton
04:27Drew Bledsoe in the 90s first pick in the draft yeah yeah that's who Game Dog just said it's Bledsoe
04:33number one overall yeah okay I mean uh so that you you would say like because and so for me
04:38like
04:39for a young player with all that pressure same way with Drew you know like Drew coming in in here
04:44and
04:44being like the savior of this organization so that's has to be a lot on him as a as a
04:51young kid and we'll
04:52judge him kind of what he does in the regular season but he's a season in now and so he
04:57knows the
04:57expectations around him he knows it's only going to build upon that I wasn't there but you guys sat down
05:01with him and he seemed great on air off air seemed like the same guy yeah like quiet confidence no
05:07bragging no very humble and you could we talked about this like you can tell a lot about a guy
05:13who's a star and how the people he plays with talk about him yeah right and that his teammates were
05:18you know having fun with the Lamborghini like right if you're a dink you don't do that to the best
05:24player because they'll bitch about you well you know what I mean like I feel like they didn't make it
05:27seem like he was a dink they were like I think big stash was like man I just his attitude
05:32and to
05:33know like what the expectations are for him and you know the type of player he is he's just like
05:38a
05:39regular down-to-earth guy well it was funny because with the team USA which I again like the world
05:43baseball classic I know some people don't care about but I do think for such a young player who
05:47has that high of expectation to be around other guys who are way more famous than you like he was
05:53in
05:53charge of being the DJ on the bus for the guys like it kind of that might bring them down
05:57to earth
05:57a little bit while you get the nod to be on the team at the same time like you're still
06:01lower on
06:02the totem pole when it comes to other guys you're playing with right so that could help too I guess
06:06yeah I mean I think it's just a um and Cora's gonna be big with this he's in a really
06:12good spot with
06:13this organization and he the thing about him too is it's like the only knock if you want to say
06:19it is
06:20a knock was health right like you missed some games he stayed down when he was when he ran into
06:25yes Raphaela like but other than that he has I I don't know if there's a good comp for it
06:33yeah
06:33it's just interesting to me when you try to figure that out and like you said the the the injury
06:38stuff
06:38that's always like the thing you have to look at so it it is just interesting because there's no
06:45other big name vet on this team that he can kind of like that can overshadow him take some of
06:51the
06:51pressure off real life Tom had a comp Larry Bird the best comp I mean literally the great white hope
06:56yeah yeah Bird like because Bird came into like the savior of the organization you know in what was
07:03that 79 yep yeah so I mean you could make a like a comp for that and just to not
07:09Tom's parents alive
07:10and 79 uh so my mom's I don't want to put mister on the spot my mom's the same age
07:14as Greg
07:14um and then I was I was making a joke because you're 22 but no I think like when you
07:20start to look at
07:21because that's been the expectations it's similar to Bird like Bird was coming to an organization where
07:27all right who could take some of the pressure off of him right I know Cornbread had a tremendous
07:34this year Cedric Maxwell kind of I want to say maybe before God before Bird got there kind he was
07:41kind of that guy so in the case of Roman Anthony like who could take some of the pressure off
07:47of
07:47him and he doesn't really have that on this team you know when you're talking about the the guys
07:52we're talking about the the hitters and stuff like that last year it was like Bregman could help him
07:57like because it could take the pressure off right because you were expecting a lot out of Bregman right
08:01so who is somebody that can take maybe take some of the pressure off of him if he's like
08:06dealing with a little bit of a slump I don't think he has that and that's why it's going to
08:09be very
08:10interesting to see how he's really able to handle like a lot of the pressure and expectations that are
08:17being put on his plate well I hope that
