02:31Hello everybody, welcome to this episode of the Fro Wrestling Podcast.
02:34If you've got questions, comments, something you want me to talk about in a future episode,
02:38the only way to let me know is to call the Fro Wrestling Sound Offline, 267-642-1160.
02:44Give us those questions, comments, concerns, and we will get to those in a future episode.
02:48Gotta start tonight by talking about former WWE stars Nikki Cross and Big Damo.
02:53They have acquired the United Kingdom independent wrestling company Progress Wrestling and Defy Wrestling,
02:59who Progress and Defy had apparently merged a couple years ago.
03:03There was talk of it happening.
03:04Never got the firm confirmation, but apparently that happened.
03:07And now they have acquired both properties.
03:09And after departing WWE, Nikki Cross, you know, she is one of the few people,
03:14and she actually made reference to this.
03:16She said, it's not lost on me that there are a few female owners for professional wrestling.
03:21She said, so I want to bring my experience and insights to the table and elevate Progress and Defy to
03:26new levels.
03:27This is awesome.
03:29They are going to be emphasizing the Progress Women's Super Strong Style 16 tournament.
03:33They recently had Rio and Giselle compete in their main event.
03:38Rio ended up being the winner of their tournament.
03:40They are already talking about Super Strong Style 16, where they are going to see, you know,
03:45progress coming to new cities all across the United Kingdom.
03:49And when it comes to Defy, that Pacific Northwest area of the United States,
03:53I am sure they are going to be promoting there as well.
03:55It is great to see her being able to take everything she has done, learned, and been a part of
03:59in WWE
04:00and parlay that into something for herself and her husband.
04:04And Big Damo, formerly Killian Dain, if you don't remember Killian Dain, he was Insanity.
04:10Great talent.
04:12Love that they are doing something together.
04:13Love that it is something that is so relevant and necessary.
04:16And keeping a great company like Progress around,
04:19who really was at the forefront of the UK wrestling scene for a significant amount of time.
04:24Kind of dipped a bit during the pandemic.
04:25Now they are going to try to bring it back to its former prominence.
04:28And I hope they do, because it is a great, great product.
04:31Got to jump into Rey Mysterio news.
04:33He's been named the general manager of AAA.
04:35That was the thing that came out over the weekend, which is wonderful.
04:39Saturday night, they made the decision that he is going to be the new general manager.
04:42But then reports have also come out this week that Rey Mysterio is entering into the final stages of his
04:47wrestling career.
04:48I know on Raw, he went and had a match with Rusev,
04:51number one contender of the Intercontinental Championship.
04:53I get all that.
04:54But at the end of the day, Rey Mysterio apparently is winding it down.
04:57He's 51 years old.
04:58And this looks like it will be the next step in his career.
05:00And he will be the AAA general manager.
05:02Maybe he'll be doing some booking down there.
05:04Good friends with Conan, The Undertaker, all working together.
05:08I think it's a great thing for AAA.
05:10I think his name brand recognition alone is phenomenal.
05:13But being able to do something on the creative side of things,
05:16I think is really going to help them.
05:17And really give them the legitimacy necessary to compete with somebody like CMLL,
05:23who's drawing great houses right now Dave Meltzer can't shut up about.
05:26So this will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next several months.
05:30Former WWE star Carlito had a conversation this week where he was talking about,
05:35he was on the Insight podcast with Chris Van Vliet,
05:38and he was talking about his plans and when he plans to retire.
05:41And it sounds like he's looking at about five more years before he's ready to retire.
05:45He talked at length about his most recent run in WWE, how it came about, how it ended,
05:51where he felt like they dropped the ball on some of the storylines,
05:54especially like the love interest of him and Raquel.
05:57There's so much more I think he could have done.
05:59And now at this point, you know, he hasn't ruled out a return to WWE.
06:02At some point, he was at the backstage at the Ring of Honor tapings recently,
06:07visiting with friends and whatnot.
06:08Don't know if that's going to turn into something or not.
06:10But it's definitely good to see him out there.
06:12I think he was gone for way too long from WWE to begin with.
06:15And then when he finally got back, it's like they've gone on to a new generation of stars.
06:18So they didn't really push him the way I feel like they could have,
06:21especially when he came back at the Royal Rumble and he looked amazing.
06:24I really thought they would do more with him there.
06:26But I'm glad he got an opportunity.
06:28Let's just say I hope he gets another one.
06:30But we'll have to see where that plays out over the next several months.
06:34There is a backstage update on the Enzo Big Cass returning to WWE rumors.
06:41We don't know what's going on with Big Cass' contract, Big Bill, over in AEW.
06:46The word was it was supposed to expire at the end of May, early June.
06:48We're not sure when the exact date is.
06:51But if anything tells you what may be in the works,
06:54Enzo has been taking indie bookings for years now
06:57and has all those promotions that he typically books with are now saying
07:01that he is no longer taking bookings.
07:03If he's no longer taking bookings,
07:05that would tell you that he's got a reason for that.
07:08And I don't really think that the reason he's stopping taking bookings
07:10is because he just doesn't want to work.
07:12Of course, he likes the money.
07:14So I would imagine that he's not taking bookings because he is returning to WWE.
07:18It sounds like we are getting some validation to that.
07:20And I really hope that they get a legitimate chance to regarner that fame
07:25that they were really, they were on a skyrocket.
07:28They really were.
07:28I think Vince McMahon is the one who screwed that up by splitting them up
07:31because he wanted to push big guys.
07:33And he was pushing big Cass too soon against Daniel Bryan.
07:35I thought that was a bad idea.
07:37Now, I know Cass had some personal issues, personal demons he was dealing with.
07:40He's got those under control.
07:41He's been doing a great job.
07:43So I think he's earned the opportunity,
07:45certainly with his AEW work and some of the stuff he did in TNA,
07:48to get another shot.
07:49He's in great physical condition.
07:50I think it's going to be great to see them on TV.
07:52I really hope Enzo could still bring the same fire, energy, and charisma that he had before
07:57because that guy could be a magnet for attention from the fans.
08:01I think it could be a really good injection of life into the WWE tag team scene.
08:05And I can't wait to see it.
08:07And one last thing, WWE, former WWE, I don't even know at this point if he's still under contract or
08:11not,
08:11star, announcer, whatever, Pat McAfee.
08:14You know, at WrestleMania, he said he would never have anything to do with the wrestling business again
08:17if Randy lost and Randy did lose.
08:19So I guess he's gone for good, but whatever.
08:23Announcing the birth of his son, congratulations to Pat McAfee and his wife
08:28for bringing Midas Robert McAfee into the world on May 22nd.
08:32Such a cool moment.
08:33You know, he had a lot of things going on.
08:35He was talking about all his responsibilities,
08:37and that's part of why he wasn't getting back into the wrestling business
08:40because he had so much going on.
08:41And this is obviously one of the most important things.
08:43Congratulations to the McAfee family.
08:45It's always a great thing to see the new little ones coming into the world.
08:49That's all the time we have for this episode.
