00:00:03welcome back we are on romans 15 verse 25 i'm going to back up a couple of verses just

00:00:09to give it some context because verse 25 kind of picks up in the middle of a thought

00:00:14just as a refresher we are right in the middle of this element of the chiasm

00:00:21and paul is talking about his desire to visit the assembly at rome and to receive a gift from them

00:00:27but explaining why he hasn't been able to get there yet and his plans for visiting in the future

00:00:33the map of the roman empire in the first century actually it says it's about 200 a.d so right

00:00:41at

00:00:41the beginning of the third century and you can see right in the middle of the map where macedonia is

00:00:48paul is actually down in corinth when he's writing the book of romans which is down in the southern

00:00:54part of greece and after he leaves corinth he's going to go through asia minor over to antioch

00:01:02and then down to jerusalem that's his plan and then he plans on coming back to rome

00:01:07making several stops on the way because that's just how the ships went so i'm going to start in verse

00:01:1424 i hope to see you in passing as i go to spain and to be helped on my journey

00:01:20thereby you and once

00:01:21i have enjoyed your company for a while at present however i am going to jerusalem bringing aid to the

00:01:26saints for macedonia and acaa have been pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the

00:01:31saints at jerusalem for they were pleased to do it and indeed they owe it to them for if the

00:01:37gentiles

00:01:37have come to share in their spiritual blessings they ought also to be of service to them in material

00:01:42blessings when therefore i have completed this and have delivered to them what has been collected

00:01:47i will leave for spain by way of you i know that when i come to you i will come

00:01:51in the fullness of

00:01:52the blessing of christ i appeal to you brothers by our lord jesus christ and by the love of the

00:01:58spirit

00:01:58to strive together with me in your prayers to god on my behalf that i may be delivered from the

00:02:04unbelievers in judea and that my service for jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints

00:02:09so that god by god's will i may come to you with joy and be refreshed in your company

00:02:14may the god of peace be with you all okay i think we're going to be able to close up

00:02:21chapter 15 today but no guarantees of course so going back to verse 25 at present however i am going

00:02:31to jerusalem bringing aid to the saints i mentioned that he was in acaa or corinth the city of corinth

00:02:37which was the capital of acaa when he wrote this letter and we can know that from several things

00:02:46let me see if i can go back to that i have a couple of paragraphs written here about why

00:02:53we can know he

00:02:53was writing from corinth first off in these verses right here he mentions that he had just gone through

00:02:59macedonia and acaa in collected some contributions then at the beginning of the next chapter verses

00:03:07one and two he indicates that the letter is being sent or he hints that the letter is being sent

00:03:14in

00:03:14the care of phoebe in any case he says that look after phoebe she's coming there and he would know

00:03:21because she was coming from a place called cantria which is just a couple of miles away from corinth

00:03:28so corinth is a city cantria is a port city that services the city of corinth so paul is talking

00:03:37about having just visited acaa and then he recommends somebody from acaa from corinth to their care

00:03:44and then later in verse 23 paul says that he sends greetings from erastus the city treasurer

00:03:52there were some paving stones discovered fairly recently in history i think it was only like 30

00:03:58years ago maybe less than that they were discovered outside of a theater in corinth and

00:04:05these paving stones date back to the first century and they say erastus in return for his

00:04:11edelship and edelship is like a magistrate position some kind of city official and it says the pavement

00:04:19was laid at his own expense so there was this wealthy man named erastus in corinth who paid to

00:04:26have a major road paved paul talks about erastus the city treasurer so it's very likely that this is

00:04:32the same person so there are four connections oh i missed one paul says he's been staying at the home

00:04:40of gaius and he says this also in verse 23 and the same name is mentioned in first corinthians

00:04:471 14 as a resident of corinth so there are four different points just in two chapters that point

00:04:54to the book of romans being written from the city of corinth yeah i don't have any there's no real

00:05:00profound lessons that i can draw from that but just for some historical context really is all i'm adding

00:05:07that all right verse 26 it says for macedonia and acaa have been pleased to make some contribution

00:05:17for the poor among the saints at jerusalem now i have some thoughts about why they're collecting

00:05:23contributions for the poor at jerusalem but you know paul gives his justification in the next couple

00:05:30of verses and he says that the people of the nations have benefited from the jews in a spiritual

00:05:35sense because as he explained earlier in the book the jews carried the the oracles of god

00:05:43preserved them for the rest of the world so that means the scriptures the writings of the prophets

00:05:48and they also produced the messiah the savior of the world and so we shouldn't really be grudge

00:05:57contributing financially to the upkeep of poor among the jews since we have benefited from them

00:06:04in a way that is so much more valuable than whatever money or material we could send but there are

00:06:10there were probably poor jews in other parts of the empire too there were jews scattered all over the known

00:06:16world way out as far as india all the way to gaul and probably in britain so why would paul

00:06:26feel it necessary to collect donations for the jewish poor in jerusalem

00:06:33about 30 years before paul wrote this letter let's go to acts 4

00:06:39acts 4 verse 32 and the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and one soul and not

00:06:46one

00:06:46of them claimed that anything belonged to him was his own but all things were common property to them

00:06:52and with great power the apostles were giving testimony to the resurrection of the lord jesus

00:06:56and abundant grace was upon them all for there was not a needy person among them for all who were

00:07:02owners of land or houses would sell them and bring the proceeds of the sales and lay them at the

00:07:06apostles feet and they would be distributed to each as any had need now joseph a levite of kyprian

00:07:13birth who was also called barnabas by the apostles which translated means sons of encouragement

00:07:17encouragement or son of encouragement not plural and who owned attractive land sold it and brought

00:07:22the money and laid it at the apostles feet and then in the beginning of the next chapter we have

00:07:27the story of ananias and sapphira who said that they sold their property and gave all of the

00:07:34all of the proceeds to the believers there but they actually didn't and god struck them dead

00:07:40but the important part is here in these verses it says that when they did this there was

00:07:47nobody among them who had any need they were all taken care of but we also know from history

00:07:53that this kind of lifestyle is not sustainable over a long period of time if everybody sells

00:08:00everything they have and pulls it together everybody's taken care of for a short while but

00:08:07nobody has any income there are no businesses nobody has any land to farm and so now they either

00:08:16all have to go and work for somebody else which is how the poor people lived because if you were

00:08:23wealthy that meant that you owned land or you had some kind of commerce business going on or you had

00:08:29a political office so 30 years 30 years ago all of the believers in jerusalem had sold all of their

00:08:38possessions including their property their income producing property and so after three decades it was very

00:08:44unlikely that they had any of this left it was all gone the reason for this is because or we

00:08:51assume

00:08:52that they believed that yeshua was coming back right away that he had gone up to heaven and he was

00:08:58coming

00:08:58back within the next year or two to set up his kingdom on earth and he was going to push

00:09:05the romans out and

00:09:06establish the millennial kingdom but that didn't happen we even see in some of paul's writings that

00:09:13it seemed like he still expected this to happen in his lifetime and this is he wrote 30 to 35

00:09:20years

00:09:20after yeshua went up to return to heaven so this was a common idea that yeshua was going to return

00:09:28any

00:09:29day and nowhere in scripture does it actually say that yeshua was going to return imminently within

00:09:36the next few years but it does seem to hint that people believe that so this decision to sell everything

00:09:43in live in common it's not what they call a prescriptive story it's not saying this is how we

00:09:51should live it's a descriptive story it's saying this is what they did not necessarily what we ought

00:09:58to do and probably we should learn from it and say this in retrospect probably wasn't the best idea

00:10:07they had really great intentions they were looking out for each other they were trying to do the best

00:10:12that they could with what they believed was about to happen and that's great we should honor them for

00:10:18that we just shouldn't necessarily follow their example anytime somebody gets into the pattern of

00:10:26setting dates and like yeshua is going to return in this year or in even in this decade people

00:10:34start to build their lives around that assumption they start selling property making foolish decisions

00:10:44everyone who has ever set a date for the return of yeshua was wrong

00:10:48every single one of them so if somebody says makes a very convincing argument that yeshua is going to

00:10:58return in 2025 or 2027 or 2030 no matter how good the argument is maybe you will maybe you won't

00:11:07but

00:11:08you still have to live as if he could come tomorrow or he could come in a thousand years from

00:11:12now

00:11:13you have to live as if both of those are true because both of those are true he could come

00:11:19tomorrow

00:11:19he could come in a thousand years we don't really know that's one possibility for why paul was

00:11:27collecting donations for the believers in jerusalem the next possibility the disciples of yeshua living

00:11:34in jerusalem which was the capital of the jewish religion this was the focus of judaism the priests the

00:11:42pharisees the sadducees they all had their center of power here and they had a lot of control in the

00:11:48government in other places in the empire the jews didn't have a lot of power but here they did

00:11:53so the disciples of yeshua were outcasts if you wanted to do business in jerusalem you had to be

00:12:02either well connected with the romans or well connected with the jews the disciples of yeshua were

00:12:07neither one they were outcasts from both the romans who were pagans and worshipped a dozen gods or two

00:12:15three dozen and from the jews who had all of these man-made rules and considered these nazarenes or the

00:12:26the followers of the way to be rebels so it would have been very difficult to even get back on

00:12:32their

00:12:32feet after having sold their businesses and their land back in acts 4 how are they supposed to make a

00:12:39living so that they can save up money to re-establish themselves it would have been very difficult

00:12:45so that's possibility number two possibility number three is that the 12 disciples and possibly all of

00:12:55the original 72 that were mentioned back in loop 10 these people had become like a new sanhedrin for

00:13:03the disciples of yeshua if you had any questions on doctrine this is where you went if you wanted to

00:13:10be

00:13:10a missionary you went to these people to get their stamp of approval this is what paul did when he

00:13:16started his ministry and so james and peter and john all of the these disciples they were spending all

00:13:25of their time teaching meeting with new believers with people visiting them trying to learn about this

00:13:34new religion people wanting their stamp of approval to go out on a mission so they couldn't even engage

00:13:42in the manual labor that they used to do so they needed some way to support them financially and for

00:13:50the previous two reasons they weren't able to do this on their own they were also probably financing

00:13:55some of these missions if they could put the funds together of somebody it's expensive to travel in the

00:14:00ancient world so if somebody from tarsus where paul was from traveled to jerusalem this was already

00:14:09an expensive thing and then what if he spent all of his money just to get there and he says

00:14:15i believe

00:14:16i'm supposed to go on to alexandria and egypt and start a an assembly there that's going to be expensive

00:14:23too somebody has to pay for his way to get there somebody has to pay for lodging until he can

00:14:29find some converts to the new faith so these three factors i think probably created a great deal of

00:14:38poverty among the believers in jerusalem the fact that they gave up their means of production their

00:14:45means to create a living 30 years earlier that they were pariahs both socially and economically

00:14:53and that they had all of these extra expenses related to their work in the kingdom so it wasn't just

00:15:03that

00:15:03the believers in jerusalem were poor it was that they were poor for the sake of the kingdom even if

00:15:11their initial decision in becoming poor was probably misguided they did it for the right reasons and

00:15:17even following that they put everything they had into building the kingdom and so their all of their

00:15:25efforts were focused in bringing the spiritual wealth out to the nations so paul was right in saying

00:15:33the nations owed them material wealth in return to help facilitate that even more does all that make

00:15:40sense yes it does but wasn't it the same macedonia when paul had a vision a man stood up and

00:15:52was

00:15:53pleading for them to come to macedonia to get help that sounds familiar yes he had a vision

00:16:06that there was a call from macedonia yeah it was a man from macedonia that was in act 16

00:16:14and a vision appeared to paul in the night a man of macedonia stood before him and begged him saying

00:16:20come over to macedonia and help us and macedonia was a fairly wealthy roman province this was the

00:16:27home of alexander the great of course that was several hundred years earlier acaa on the other hand was

00:16:34a middle province they weren't very wealthy they weren't poor either they were about on a par with

00:16:41judea so it was middle class people helping poor people in another middle class province

00:16:49you might think that acaa would be wealthy because that's where corinth and athens were and athens was

00:16:56the the financial and cultural capital of the greek world until the romans took over

00:17:02well but once rome took over that role as the cultural and financial capital of the mediterranean

00:17:09world athens really became a backwater in a sense wasn't it that in athens where they were serving

00:17:17their unknown god yeah uh mars hill i think it was yes mars i believe that was athens yes

00:17:27okay any other thoughts on verse 26 i look at it that macedonia had gotten help when they needed it

00:17:38and

00:17:38in return they just reciprocate the same extension of love and charity i don't know about acai

00:17:50but i know macedonia yeah it makes sense that they were pleading from help for pleading for help from

00:17:59paul and so when paul went and helped them he asked them to return help and of just of a

00:18:06different

00:18:06nature yes all right let's go on to verse 27 for they were pleased to do it and indeed they

00:18:14owe it to

00:18:15them for if the gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings they are also to be of

00:18:19service to them and material blessings so that's exactly what we were just talking about macedonia

00:18:25and acai being grateful for the spiritual blessings they they received from jerusalem so now returning

00:18:31material blessings and being material blessings in order to be portable so if you're going to send

00:18:41finances back across hundreds of miles you generally aren't going to send lots of material stuff you're

00:18:51not going to like today if we wanted to send a relief mission to some foreign country an organization

00:18:57might like samaritan's purse they might purchase large quantities of bottled water and food things like

00:19:04that and then ship it overseas but that really wasn't a practical thing to do in the first century

00:19:10shipping was very expensive so they would have been contributing just money and then paul would

00:19:17have taken the money to jerusalem and then either simply given it to the disciples who were there

00:19:24to distribute probably using a council the deacons like stephen or he would have purchased things that

00:19:33the local fellowship needed and then distributed them so the money that they used in the first

00:19:39century was gold silver bronze and if i'm pronouncing this correctly or a calcum which is

00:19:49associated with some pagan gods but in reality it's just a metal like any other metal so there's nothing

00:19:57necessarily pagan about it it's a copper zinc alloy so it looked a lot like gold with maybe a little

00:20:03a reddish tint and some people apparently had a hard time telling the difference between or a calcum

00:20:10and gold and then you get like in the movies you see somebody biting it on a piece of gold

00:20:16to test it

00:20:17to make sure it's real copper and zinc is a harder alloy than pure gold so that's how they would

00:20:23tell

00:20:24yeah pure gold is soft it is yeah and that's one of the reasons why it was one of the

00:20:30first metals that

00:20:30people worked because gold is soft and it's found in its pure form in nature or relatively pure you can

00:20:38melt it down to get the impurities out but it has a pretty low melting point compared to most metals

00:20:45so it's a lot

00:20:46easier to work no no big theological points to make there but the historical context is interesting

00:20:53and really for the next the rest of the book we're mostly going to be talking about historical context

00:20:59we do have some pretty good theological stuff to talk about tonight but when we get to chapter 16

00:21:05it's mostly historical context after that

00:21:10moving on to verse 28 29

00:21:13when therefore i have completed this and then i have delivered to them what has been collected i will leave

00:21:18for spain by way of you

00:21:19i know that when i come to you i will come in the fullness of the blessing of christ

00:21:24okay so i already talked about what kind of donations paul was collecting

00:21:31and it would have been dangerous it's traveling by sea or traveling by any way in the first century was

00:21:37dangerous

00:21:37you didn't normally travel alone you if you were going to travel by land

00:21:42then you accompanied a caravan you either organized one for yourself or you joined a caravan

00:21:47because there was safety in numbers and the people who organized the caravans would often hire guards to go along

00:21:55with them

00:21:57banditry was a serious danger and in some areas much more than others

00:22:03if you were going to travel from jerusalem out to babylon you'd be in much more danger than you would

00:22:09be

00:22:09if you were traveling along the southern coast of asia minor

00:22:12traveling by sea had the danger of both pirates and storms

00:22:18storms in some parts of the mediterranean were unpredictable

00:22:21and we read in acts how paul was shipwrecked at least once i think he might have been shipwrecked twice

00:22:27but we have more detail about one of those incidences

00:22:30so he needed to transport these donations to jerusalem

00:22:34and he needed to keep them safe on the way and we know that he did this by water

00:22:37most mostly by water he did travel some by land but mostly it was by sea

00:22:43so i suspect that he probably took some people with him

00:22:47that he did not travel alone

00:22:49and we know from the book of acts that he almost always traveled with a few helpers

00:22:52and sometimes he traveled with a whole retinue

00:22:55more than likely on his way back to jerusalem he would have taken some people from macedonia and acaa with

00:23:01him

00:23:02maybe these assemblies would want to send emissaries to the council in jerusalem

00:23:06just to introduce themselves in to learn from the disciples

00:23:11but also this would provide security for paul

00:23:14and they more than likely divided up

00:23:16that these donations not they wouldn't carry it in a single box

00:23:21because then it could be stolen at one time

00:23:23but instead they would divide it up into purses

00:23:26leather pouches or money belts

00:23:29and each one of them would carry a portion of it

00:23:32and this way they can keep each other accountable

00:23:36at the end of maybe each leg of a journey

00:23:38they would count the money and make sure that it was all still there

00:23:42and if they lost one of their party

00:23:45they wouldn't lose all of the money

00:23:47and the only way they would lose it all is if the ship wrecked and sunk

00:23:51and that did happen sometimes

00:23:54so transporting money across the ancient world was always a gamble

00:23:58and there were no electronic transfers obviously

00:24:00you couldn't deposit your money in a bank here and pick it up over there

00:24:05that was possible

00:24:06you could if you were wealthy and well-known

00:24:09you could deposit money with a banker in one city

00:24:13get a note of credit from them

00:24:15and take it to a bank in another city

00:24:18and use that letter of credit to get money from that bank

00:24:22and then that bank would send to the other bank

00:24:24okay give us our money

00:24:27but this would not be available to everybody

00:24:29this would be something that only wealthy

00:24:31and well-known people would be able to take advantage of

00:24:34you couldn't just open a checking account at your bank

00:24:37and write checks anywhere you wanted

00:24:40Spain

00:24:42that's an interesting thing too

00:24:44has anybody ever heard of

00:24:46any of the traditions about Paul visiting Spain?

00:24:50I read a book years ago

00:24:51and I can't remember what it was called now

00:24:54and

00:24:56the accuracy of the book

00:24:57was probably questionable

00:24:58but it was really interesting

00:25:00it collected traditions from lots of ancient sources

00:25:05and talked about Paul's journeys in Britain

00:25:09it's unlikely that Paul ever went to Britain

00:25:11however

00:25:12there is one source that says

00:25:15a very early and reliable source

00:25:17that said Paul went to the farthest reaches of the Western Empire

00:25:22in the first century that would be Britain

00:25:24I think he probably really meant Spain

00:25:27but we don't have any record in scripture of Paul going to Spain

00:25:31our record of his journeys pretty much ends

00:25:33when he's arrested and transported to Rome

00:25:37let me read to you

00:25:38this is from Clement of Rome

00:25:41this is from his first letter to the Corinthians

00:25:45he says

00:25:47Paul also obtained the reward of patient endurance

00:25:50after being seven times thrown into captivity

00:25:52compelled to flee and stoned

00:25:54after preaching both in the East and West

00:25:57he gained the illustrious reputation due to his faith

00:25:59having taught righteousness to the whole world

00:26:02and come to the extreme limit of the West

00:26:04and suffered martyrdom under the prefects

00:26:08thus he was removed from the world

00:26:10and went into the holy place

00:26:11having proved himself a striking example of patience

00:26:15if you've never read

00:26:16Clement's letter to the Corinthians

00:26:18I think it is

00:26:19it's a great read

00:26:21I definitely recommend it

00:26:23and

00:26:24it probably really was written by Clement

00:26:27who was

00:26:29one of the first generation of

00:26:31he'd be the second generation of apostles

00:26:34he would have learned from one of the original apostles

00:26:38I don't remember right now who his mentor was

00:26:40it might have been John

00:26:42I know John was

00:26:45Polycarp was a disciple of John

00:26:46Clement might have been a disciple of John or Peter

00:26:51possibly of Paul

00:26:51I don't remember for sure

00:26:52anyways

00:26:54Clement lived in Rome

00:26:56so when he says that

00:26:57Paul went to the extreme limit of the West

00:27:00it's very unlikely that he meant Rome

00:27:03why would a guy in Rome say

00:27:04this is the extreme limit of the West

00:27:08when Gaul and Spain

00:27:09were also part of the Empire

00:27:11and they were much further West

00:27:13the Empire went all the way to Britain by this time

00:27:17so

00:27:18he probably didn't mean Britain

00:27:20although he could have

00:27:21I suspect that he meant Spain

00:27:24but this is really the only

00:27:25this is the closest documentation we have

00:27:28to the idea that Paul went to Spain

00:27:30we really don't know

00:27:31there's nothing in scripture

00:27:33that says he went there

00:27:34just this one little mention that hints at it

00:27:37so

00:27:37we just kind of have to leave it at that

00:27:39if he did go to Spain

00:27:41it means that

00:27:44he was arrested in Jerusalem

00:27:46transported to Rome

00:27:47put under house arrest

00:27:48and then for some reason he was released

00:27:52he traveled to Spain

00:27:53did some more missionary work

00:27:54and then was arrested again

00:27:56and brought back to Rome

00:27:58but we don't have any record of any of that

00:28:00we just have a record of the arrest in Jerusalem

00:28:02and transport to Rome

00:28:04so

00:28:05you can

00:28:06take that for what it's worth

00:28:08maybe he went to Spain

00:28:09maybe he didn't

00:28:10it would be awesome if

00:28:12someday we

00:28:14found a letter from Paul

00:28:16to the Spaniards

00:28:18I

00:28:19since we don't have it now

00:28:20I doubt we ever will

00:28:21but

00:28:22that would be something

00:28:23to read

00:28:24okay

00:28:26moving on to verse 29

00:28:29I know that when I come to you

00:28:30I will come in the fullness

00:28:32of the blessing of Christ

00:28:33now the King James Version says

00:28:35fullness of the blessing

00:28:36of the gospel of Christ

00:28:38but

00:28:39according to the commentators I read

00:28:42most ancient Greek manuscripts

00:28:43don't say of the gospel of Christ

00:28:46and

00:28:48I'm not really sure whether it matters

00:28:49one way or another

00:28:50they amount to about the same thing

00:28:52I think

00:28:53when he says

00:28:54the fullness of the blessing of Christ

00:28:57I think what he means is

00:29:00that

00:29:01when Christ

00:29:02when the time is right

00:29:04according to the plan of Christ

00:29:05when Christ blesses him

00:29:07coming to Rome

00:29:08that's when he's going to get there

00:29:09and not before

00:29:11if gospel is supposed to be in there

00:29:13then it means

00:29:15when

00:29:15he has completed his mission

00:29:17of preaching the gospel

00:29:18in these other places

00:29:20then he'll be able to come to Rome

00:29:22and I think really

00:29:23the two mean the same thing

00:29:25when Christ is done with him

00:29:27preaching the gospel here

00:29:28or when he has fully preached

00:29:30the gospel there

00:29:31six of one

00:29:32half a dozen of the other

00:29:32so I'm not really sure it matters

00:29:35which is correct

00:29:37this is true of

00:29:39almost all variants

00:29:41there are a significant number

00:29:44of small differences

00:29:45between various Greek

00:29:47and Hebrew manuscripts

00:29:48but almost all of them

00:29:50are just like this

00:29:50where they really don't make

00:29:53any material difference

00:29:54in the meaning of the text

00:29:55they don't make

00:29:56any real theological changes

00:29:58it's just

00:30:00a slight different meaning

00:30:02in what this sentence means

00:30:03but it doesn't

00:30:05really change

00:30:06how we understand

00:30:08God's law

00:30:09or the plan of salvation

00:30:10or anything like that

00:30:12let's see

00:30:14anybody have any thoughts

00:30:15or questions

00:30:15on verse 29

00:30:17I was thinking that

00:30:19this

00:30:20we know that Paul was planning

00:30:21he said that he was planning

00:30:23on visiting them

00:30:24he was planning

00:30:24the people in Rome

00:30:26and he's planning

00:30:26on visiting Spain

00:30:28so at the moment

00:31:09interrupt those plans

00:31:10and send us in a way

00:31:11that we didn't expect

00:31:13in fact

00:31:14we can know

00:31:15from things like

00:31:16the parable of the talents

00:31:17that God expects us

00:31:19to plan

00:31:20and expects us

00:31:21to do it

00:31:22in his absence

00:31:23for example

00:31:24when the Hebrews

00:31:25came out of Egypt

00:31:26the wilderness

00:31:27to the promised land

00:31:51wants his people

00:31:52to live

00:31:52planning months

00:31:53and years

00:31:54and even decades

00:31:55into the future

00:31:56but all the while

00:31:57understanding that

00:31:59he could interrupt

00:32:00their plans

00:32:01and make something

00:32:02entirely different

00:32:03happen

00:32:04when

00:32:05in the parable

00:32:06of the ten talents

00:32:07the master left

00:32:09he left certain

00:32:10resources

00:32:11in the charge

00:32:11of his servants

00:32:12and he left

00:32:14expecting them

00:32:14to plan

00:32:15and use those

00:32:16resources

00:32:17for the benefit

00:32:18of their master

00:32:20he didn't tell them

00:32:21how to do it

00:32:21so that

00:32:23meant that they

00:32:24had to do some

00:32:24planning

00:32:25working on their own

00:32:27not knowing

00:32:27when the master

00:32:28was returning

00:32:29and they

00:32:30probably had

00:32:31investments

00:32:32underway

00:32:32when he did

00:32:33return

00:32:33and put a stop

00:32:35to whatever

00:32:35investments

00:32:35were going on

00:32:36because he

00:32:37wanted an

00:32:37accounting

00:32:39had to sell
