00:08Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're taking a look at the 10 hardest dungeons and palaces
00:14that we've endured throughout the Persona franchise.
00:26Before we begin we publish new videos all week long,
00:29so be sure to subscribe to MojoPlays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:34T'Zaya, Persona 3, and Persona 3 Reload
00:49Don't let this block's brightly golden walls and floors fool you.
00:53You can get rich from the slightly higher spawn rate of golden shadows here,
00:57but the T'Zaya block of Tartarus is crawling with even more powerful shadows
01:02than those that came before and those who will come after.
01:15Solid castles, minotaurs, and arcane turrets have the speed and power to potentially end your playthrough if you're not careful,
01:23and given that the rooms are fairly wide, it can be easy for a shadow to ambush you if you
01:29aren't paying attention.
01:30Best keep your wits about you here.
01:41The Hollow Forest, Persona 4
01:54The best way to describe The Hollow Forest is annoying and oppressive.
01:59While many Persona fans will sing their praises of Persona 4,
02:03The Hollow Forest silences most of it on account of how restrictive it is.
02:14Not only are you stripped entirely of your weapons, gear, and cash,
02:19the enemies lurking throughout this part of the game boast significant resistance to elemental attacks.
02:25Not only that, but after every battle, you and your party's SP gets halved.
02:30Every. Single. Battle.
02:33You basically have to suck it up and brute force your way through this part.
02:45Okumura's Palace, Persona 5
03:00If you aren't one for elaborate puzzles, then you probably got filtered out of Persona 5 midway into the game.
03:06Sure, some had a bit of trouble with the original iteration of the lock tumbler in Kaneshiro's palace.
03:11However, Okumura's space station was mind-boggling to traverse.
03:16About midway through his palace, you'll start coming across passageways that can only be accessed with switches.
03:35The thing is that flipping those switches will close off other paths in the process,
03:40so you have to keep track of which buttons you're pressing in order to make it to the next area.
03:45But don't be surprised if you wind up getting turned around.
03:48Just remember to look at your map before you go changing the layout.
04:01Alice Hiragi's Prison, Persona 5 Strikers
04:12Whereas most of Persona's dungeons are tough because of layouts and puzzles,
04:16Alice's Prison in Persona 5 Strikers is difficult because of awful pacing.
04:20Just like in the mainline games, Persona 5 Strikers emphasizes the importance of exploiting enemy weaknesses through skills,
04:27which require SP to use. Unlike the mainline games, skills use up a ton of SP in this game,
04:36thus limiting how often you can exploit weaknesses.
04:48To make matters worse, none of the shops within this first section of the game sell items to replenish SP,
04:55save for a small amount of soda cans found in one particular vending machine.
05:00This ends up making Alice's entire prison a massive pain to suffer through,
05:05and it only becomes more frustrating when the game rewards you with a brand new mechanic for beating the prison.
05:11Cooking Food That Restores SP
05:13Why not introduce this stuff sooner, guys?
05:17Oh, if we use this, we'll go back to the entrance?
05:20Sounds like moving between the jail and the real world will make our resupply efforts at least a bit easier.
05:25Inaba Pride Exhibit
05:27Persona Q Shadow of the Labyrinth
05:42For those unfamiliar, Persona Q plays a bit like some of Atlas's other games like Shin Megami Tensei and Etrian
05:49Odyssey.
05:49It's more of a dungeon crawler than the other Persona games, and you'll find it to be just as tumultuous
05:54when you enter the Inaba Pride Exhibit.
05:56It's bad enough that this dungeon's layout is so haphazardly assembled that it becomes easy to get lost in.
06:05Look out!
06:08There are two enemies! They have the initiative!
06:11We suppose that's appropriate for a game with the subtitle, Shadow of the Labyrinth,
06:15but what really kills us is just how boring, repetitive, and frustrating the Torch puzzles can get.
06:21Couple that with a bunch of overpowered FOEs, and you get a dungeon that kind of makes us want to
06:26drop Persona Q.
06:28I will show you my color!
06:33Persona!
06:36You're done here.
06:38Persona 2 Innocent Sin
06:49It's funny seeing Innocent Sin on this list, because shouldn't Eternal Punishment be on here instead?
06:54We'll get to that one eventually, but Shibalba is definitely worth throwing onto this list.
07:00Composing of the party's various fears, Shibalba places a heavy focus on environmental hazards and traps,
07:07than most of Persona's dungeons typically do.
07:16Some of the cast's fears have even caused shadows to appear with a hefty buff or two
07:21in some fashion, such as having armored skin.
07:24But, needless to say, you may wind up entering battles in very compromised conditions.
07:29So, try to stay on top of your HP and SP.
07:38Yukiko's Castle Persona 4
07:47I smell two enemies!
07:49Beat them up!
07:50Some may have a harder time getting through Shadow Rize's dungeon,
07:53but Yukiko's Castle has filtered many players despite being the very first dungeon in Persona 4.
07:59You are incredibly limited on resources between what your party members can do,
08:03and what items you have available to get yourself out of a bind.
08:06But that's to be expected somewhat out of the early game portion.
08:10What isn't expected is for the majority of Personas available at this point in the game
08:15to be absolute garbage.
08:19Two enemies! Charge through them! Go!
08:23Get out!
08:26Chiechan is swatting them left and right!
08:28Regardless of what difficulty you're playing on,
08:31most of the Personas you can acquire here inflict a pitiful amount of damage.
08:36You'll have no other option but to power through and really get your Personas to somewhat higher
08:41levels before you go facing Shadow Yukiko. Otherwise, you better come packing with some insane
08:47amounts of fire resistance.
08:56The Aerospace Museum Persona 2 Eternal Punishment
09:11Even though this dungeon is present in Innocent Sin, the version seen in Eternal Punishment is way more
09:17harrowing, both in original and in PSP form. Generally, the enemies and bosses seen here are
09:23stronger in Attack Power and way more aggressive than the version seen in Innocent Sin. On top of that,
09:29you have a different goal here than you did in Innocent Sin. Find all of the missing kids within 30
09:34minutes.
09:40Easier said than done, as those 30 minutes count down in real time even when you're in the middle of
09:45combat. And if you manage to reach Sudo, the boss of the dungeon, be prepared to get afflicted by Old
09:52Maid
09:52a lot. Yeah, this makes Innocent Sin seem way more chill in comparison.
10:04Maruki's Palace Persona 5 Royal
10:14Okay, you've made it through Okumura's Palace. Maybe you had issues, but switches and ever-changing
10:19layouts are now behind us, right? You're dead wrong.
10:21Maruki's Palace once again has you pushing buttons to change layouts, but it's even more confusing
10:28than anything Okumura had going on.
10:37You now have to create colored light that will affect which paths are regrown and which paths
10:44are blocked off. Sure, changing the light to red will create a path to the exit, but it means nothing
10:49if it closes two paths leading to the exit. Honestly, there were more than a few occasions
10:54where we just started messing with the dials mindlessly until something worked.
11:04If you love games, be sure to check out WatchMojo's new game, Terrible Influence. Just launched for
11:10purchase at TerribleInfluence.com. Terrible Influence is a satirical board game about the
11:15dark side of fame from the writer of the most popular girls in school and us, WatchMojo.
11:20Boom. I can make an apology video. Oh, you so would. Click on the link in the description
11:25to check out the game and be the first to play Terrible Influence.
11:39Is it really any surprise that the hardest dungeon in Persona history is from the very first game?
11:44This is from an era where properly balancing games wasn't much of a thought in most developers' heads.
11:50Regardless, Thanatos Tower has haunted many fans young and old since their initial playthrough. This
11:56is one of three towers you'll have to endure when tackling the Snow Queen quest, and it is going to
12:01be an intense test in fortitude. First off, the tower takes a minimum of three hours to finish,
12:14but what makes this tower insanely stressful is that if any of your party members die in combat,
12:20and you have run out of what limited number of revives you're allowed, they are removed from your
12:24party and sent all the way to Tartarus. Oh, and you cannot save. At all. You have to finish the
12:31tower in a single sitting.
12:39Were you able to conquer any of these dungeons for yourself?
