00:00something that gives you a reason to go on. NYPD! Freeze! Easy! Don't move! We need a paramedic
00:07team here. We have two survivors. Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're looking at secret
00:11endings you may not have seen unless you decided personal torture was a good thing.
00:15These are 10 endings you can only unlock on the hardest difficulty. Let's go! Before we continue,
00:21we publish content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified of
00:27our latest videos. Sonic Frontiers. Easy and normal difficulty players can finish Sonic
00:43Frontiers without ever properly fighting the end. Switch to hard however and the finale suddenly
00:48gains an entire extra boss battle. After defeating Supreme, Sonic and Sage head into space where
00:53players control Supreme in a bullet hell style showdown against the end itself. Survive that
00:58barrage and you get the expanded version of the finale, including extra dialogue and a different
01:03credit song. Yay, I guess? My own disdain for musical rewards aside, it is a pretty substantial reward
01:10for choosing the toughest setting. Super R-Type.
01:26Super R-Type is already the sort of shooter where one tiny mistake can erase a very large amount of
01:31happiness and that's just on normal difficulty. Hard mode makes matters worse with vicious enemy
01:35patterns and a checkpoint system that sends you back through huge sections after death. And honestly,
01:40removing checkpoints when difficulty increases is something you should be allowed to cancel
01:44developers for. Survive the entire campaign on hard and the game still isn't finished with you.
01:49Instead, it loops into the hidden professional difficulty, an even harsher second run. Only
01:54clearing that extra gauntlet reveals the complete final screen. Most games reward mastery with an ending.
02:00Super R-Type rewards mastery by asking whether you fancy doing everything again but worse,
02:03saroo-roo. Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly.
02:17I kept waiting.
02:20The Xbox version of Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly saves one of its endings for players willing to stare
02:26directly into misery. To unlock the hellish abyss ending, you first need access to fatal difficulty,
02:31meaning earlier challenges such as nightmare must already be conquered. Fatal then turns ordinary
02:37ghost encounters into potential disasters with enemies capable of destroying Mio only after a few
02:42mistakes. Mastering the camera obscura becomes absolutely essential. The cruel detail, PlayStation 2
02:49owners could reach this ending on hard. This feels like favoritism but I had a PS2 so I'm cool with
02:54it.
02:54And that village is no more.
03:05Goldeneye 007
03:12Finishing Goldeneye 007 on the N64 does not mean James Bond is done working. Clear every mission in
03:1900 agent including the already brutal Aztec stage and one final assignment opens. Egyptian. The secret
03:27level sends Bond through an ancient temple in search of the golden gun before Baron Samedi decides dying
03:32once would be far too conventional. Reaching this mission is arguably harder than completing it,
03:37thanks to tougher enemies, extra objectives and the infamous escort sections throughout 00 agent.
03:42By the time Egyptian unlocks Bond deserves a holiday. Bond. James Bond. Can I get a late checkout?
03:48Yeah. Painkiller. Painkiller already plays like somebody fed old school Doom 3 energy drinks so
04:08naturally its hardest difficulty turns the chaos up further. The normal conclusion leaves Daniel trapped
04:13in hell fighting endless demonic hordes. Finish the campaign on trauma difficulty however and you
04:19earn an alternate far more hopeful ending. Getting there means surviving enemies that hit harder while
04:24resources become increasingly precious and mistakes are punished with a stern slap in the face. It's
04:29wonderfully appropriate that a game called Painkiller hides happiness behind maximum suffering.
04:34Where's the norephins of ants? I'm not feeling well.
04:47Halo 3.
05:01Most players finishing Halo 3 already learn that Master Chief survived aboard the broken forward unto dawn
05:06where he enters cry asleep while Cortana waits for rescue. Legendary difficulty adds one final detail.
05:13After the usual scene the camera pulls back to reveal the drifting ship approaching a mysterious planet
05:18quietly setting up Halo 4. Earning that glimpse means battling through the campaign on its highest
05:24standard difficulty where shields vanish quickly and certain flood encounters become genuinely unpleasant.
05:30It's only a few extra seconds of footage but for years those seconds gave Halo fans an enormous
05:36mystery to obsess over. And they did. Again I was a PlayStation guy so I found it really annoying.
05:51Dead Cells.
06:01Dead Cells makes you earn its true finale one difficulty increase at a time. Reaching the collector requires five
06:08boss stem cells meaning multiple successful runs through increasingly brutal versions of the game.
06:13At five cells healing becomes scarce. Enemies grow nastier and malaise adds constant pressure
06:19before you even reach the secret astrolab and observatory. Then comes the collector himself.
06:24Beat him and you still haven't seen everything. The fullest ending requires another run,
06:29reclaiming the king's body and defeating the collector again. Good god.
06:39Fear and hunger
06:47Hard mode in fear and hunger sounds like somebody filing a complaint against the player.
06:52Four character specific S endings are locked behind it with Ragvalder's god of ultra violence route being
06:58especially face punchingly hard. He must hunt powerful enemies and collect their unique souls before
07:03escaping. Saving is removed, useful resources are scarcer, companions are heavily restricted and one
07:09unlucky battle can permanently destroy a run through lost limbs or death. Because like I said saving is
07:15removed. Hours of progress can vanish instantly. Unlocking this ending is less about finishing a game
07:21and more about surviving somewhere that clearly wants you dead.
07:29Superman The New Superman Adventures
07:41More commonly known as Superman 64, playing through this game once is already a legendary endurance test.
07:47The rings, you guys, the rings. Unfortunately, the complete ending requires Superman mode,
07:53the game's highest difficulty. Easy stops early, normal also cuts off before the final stages,
07:58and only the hardest setting lets you see the whole campaign. That means enduring the rings,
08:04awkward flying, ugly environments, and unreliable controls with even less room for error. Surely the
08:10reward must be incredible, right? Not particularly. The final cutscene is extremely brief and largely
08:15resembles the opening with altered text. Oh, cool. F**k.
08:30Max Payne 2 The Fall of Max Payne
08:42Max Payne spends most of his life discovering exciting new varieties of tragedy, and Max Payne 2
08:48normally ends with monosacs dying in his arms. There is one way to give the poor man a slightly
08:53less miserable ending. Complete the game on Dead on Arrival. The highest difficulty makes enemies more
08:59dangerous, while limited saves force you to carefully manage Max's health, bullet time, and every
09:04firefight. Survive the campaign and the ending changes, with Mona living and sharing a kiss with Max.
09:10Happiness is apparently available in this universe, it just comes locked behind a whole bunch of sadness.
