00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're counting down the bosses from across the RPG genre that decimated us time and time again.
00:17What?
00:19I had some difficult challenge in this strange space and I was told to save the sky.
00:28Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:37Flemeth Dragon Age Origins
00:47It wouldn't be a fantasy game without at least one fight against a dragon.
00:55Unfortunately for the Grey Warden and company, Flemeth is not your typical fire breathing lizard.
01:00Should you choose to follow Morrigan's personal questline, you're tasked with eliminating her witchy mother upon discovering that her designs for her daughter are far more nefarious than originally thought.
01:10Slaying an old woman in the middle of a swamp? No problem.
01:14That is until Flemeth showcases her shape shifting ability and becomes a high dragon.
01:19A creature you and your party are likely woefully unprepared to face.
01:23What with the staggering health pool, tail whips and abundance of far reaching flames.
01:36The Countess Darkest Dungeon
01:44What do you get when you combine a Victorian Seductress with an Eldritch Mosquito?
01:49An unholy combination guaranteed to haunt your nightmares.
01:53As the final challenge of the already excruciatingly difficult Crimson Court DLC, the Countess will bleed your entire team dry.
02:01Hacking away at her humanoid form is all well and good, but when she goes full bloodlust mode, you'd best ready yourselves.
02:07She can attack several times in a row, stun multiple party members at once, as well as infect you with parasite eggs that will act as icky insectoid time bombs as the fight goes on.
02:17Gross and gruelling in equal measure.
02:20Compassion is a rarity in the fate of pictures of battle.
02:29Maria
02:30Neo
02:31Don't pretend we're the same.
02:45Hard to believe that between all the demons and legendary warriors taken straight out of history, the deadliest foe might just be this dainty maiden.
02:54But rest assured, Maria is deadly.
02:57And unless you're ready to bring it, she'll turn you into a pincushion before you can blink.
03:02Her speed is unparalleled, staggering her is all but impossible, and she'll enchant her blade to unleash twice the damage.
03:08Back her into a corner, and she'll slip right past you to deliver the killing blow.
03:13So, best not rest on your laurels, lest you get the full Spanish Inquisition treatment.
03:25Red Scale Apocalypse Dragon
03:28Re Fantasio
03:31But thanks.
03:36Let's do this together.
03:38Ah, superbosses.
03:41Every turn based RPG has them, and they're often the bane of every player's existence.
03:46This particular dragon is no exception.
03:48Only available on New Game Plus, you might think you're ready to face any challenge after unlocking the best weapons and grinding up all your archetypes to their max level.
03:57But rest assured, they don't call this the apocalypse dragon for the sake of hyperbole.
04:02Aside from having zero weaknesses, the list of abilities to its name is absurd.
04:07From permanently increasing the amount of turns it gains, every kind of elemental attack, stat debuffs, and the cherry on top, spamming one final move near the end of the battle that will consistently dish out 9999 points of damage to the entire party.
04:25Lovely.
04:26They're down!
04:27Right?
04:28They have to be!
04:29Sans.
04:30Undertale.
04:31Go the route of genocide and you're going to have a bad time.
04:50That's what every player experienced when they found Sans waiting for them at the end of Undertale's darkest path.
04:56Go out of your way to kill every monster in the underground, and you'll be met with the unrelenting fury of this once chill Skelebro.
05:03In an instant, Sans turns the whole screen into the ninth level of bullet hell, bending the game's meta and framework to his will, and forcing you to become a parry god if you want to have any chance of besting him.
05:15Mind you, the arduousness of the fight is the point. Why should you get off easy after committing such atrocities?
05:22Gulldera the Fallen, Octopath Traveler 2.
05:34Oh, you thought you'd seen the last of this super boss? Well, think again.
05:39Returning as a secret optional fight, this second incarnation of Gulldera is just as lethal as he was in the first game, only now with inflated stats.
05:47Between the multiple phases, summoning additional appendages with their own health bars, as well as having no shortage of ways to permanently remove your party from the battlefield, Gulldera can easily wipe out your team of eight unless you're prepared to counter and mitigate every world ending attack every step of the way. Time Worm.
06:06Dragon Quest XI Echoes of an Elusive Age
06:15Turns out the definitive version of this beloved title didn't just come with plenty of lush bonus material, but a superboss waiting to truly test your skills.
06:24Just getting to the Time Worm is a gauntlet in of itself, as it demands you conquer the Hall of Remembrance, which features the final bosses of previous Dragon Quest games, all before fighting the End of Time, a terrifying boss in its own right.
06:37And yet the Time Worm soars above them all. Having to fight against both its head and tail as separate entities is bad enough, but with its massive damage output, status effects and nasty tendency to double the mana expense of your skills, this worm will break all but the most battle-hardened.
06:55This is the big one. Hiya!
07:04Raphael. Baldur's Gate 3.
07:06If you have any last words, make it quick. It will only take a moment to finish you.
07:14They say, better the devil you know. Well, we know Raphael, and what a colossal pain in the D&D he can be if you challenge him.
07:21Should you choose to break into his House of Hope, the charmingly nefarious demon will be waiting to smite you as you try to make your escape.
07:28And he's not alone.
07:30Along with an abundance of hellish minions and a couple of hard-hitting NPCs, Raphael and his posse can easily overwhelm.
07:37And that's all before he shifts into his final form and really starts laying on the damage.
07:42There are so many moving parts to this battle it can often feel hopeless.
07:46If not for Raphael's iconic song blasting in the background and sparing you on.
07:51We could listen to that on loop for eternity.
07:54Fatalis. Monster Hunter World.
07:56Longtime staple of the franchise, you know things are about to get taken up a notch when this lizard decides it wants to get in on the action.
08:14And one of his most trying incarnations can be found in the depths of the Iceborne DLC.
08:19If you want to get your hands on some of the games best strip then you're going to have to take on the flames of Monster Hunter's infamous Black Dragon.
08:26Which is easier said than done given its immunity to stun, the small size of the arena and the rapid rater which can dowse you and your fellow hunters in flame.
08:36Tanki doesn't even come close so best make use of the environmental weaponry and start spamming smoke bombs like your life depends on it.
08:44It's... over?
08:50You... you are...
08:53Telefea the Endbringer. Xenoblade Chronicles X.
08:58Be careful, we should weaken it.
09:03Even armed with a mecha there are certain tyrants you just don't want to mess with unless you are kitted out the wazoo.
09:13And even then, it may not be enough.
09:16With crazy health, various debuffs and bouts of invincibility, Telefea is a wall that can only be broken if you and your Skell are armed to the teeth with the fanciest toys like the Zenith Cannon.
09:27And that's if you're engaged in aerial combat.
09:30Trying to wipe it out on solid ground is a whole other level of pain.
09:34The corpse of Alice Elysian Divinity Original Sin 2.
09:45By the hazing of the shade I'll kill your shining lights! I'll kill your shining lights!
09:52Sure, you can take the easy way out and lead this living corpse towards the local wizard who can one shot her.
09:58But if you're a true god woken, you'll take her on fair and square.
10:02Just be prepared to get your ass barbecued.
10:04Poor old Alice is obsessed with killing our shining lights and chooses to do so by blanketing as much of the surrounding area in flames.
10:12If you're not trying to cheese it, then your best hope of not being reduced to ashes is to invoke holy moves such as Bless to keep her aura of pain at bay.
10:21And chugging back as many potions as possible.
10:24Dark Eater Medea, Dark Souls 3.
10:27Dark Souls 3.
10:40Arguably the most devastating dragon to ever blaze its way into the modern gaming scene when players discuss the soul-crushing difficulty spikes associated with Soulsborne DLC bosses.
10:51Medea can be found atop the mountain of Ashen corpses.
10:54With a health bar as vast as the Ring City itself, there is no singular easy way to best Medea.
11:00Only trial, error and a bunch of broken controllers.
11:04Despite its immense size, Medea can and will leap across the area, constantly forcing you to play catch up while it unleashes everything from flames to its own draconic death ray.
11:15Even if you do get up close, the damage dealt by its teeth and tail are crippling.
11:20Yo Zora, Kingdom Hearts 3.
11:27Who is this kid? A digital construct? Yet another copy of Sora? No idea.
11:41Though if we're being honest, we're less concerned about how he fits into Kingdom Hearts ever twisting narrative.
11:47And more trying not to get our ass handed to us.
11:50Because Yo Zora has zero chill.
11:52He may not be a Keyblade user, but given how he can reduce all of Sora's items to one, teleport at lightning speed, and launch Disney-fied drone strikes, he doesn't exactly need them.
12:04We didn't think it could get any more intense after taking on digital clones of Organization XIII, but Yo Zora quickly proved himself to be the new hotshot on the block.
12:13That's right. I don't think so. I don't need my power yet.
12:20What does that mean?
12:23Orphan of Kos. Bloodborne.
12:38The pinnacle of FromSoftware's foray into eldritch horror, the orphan lives up to its namesake as the child born from the corpse of a space god.
12:46And it is mightily pissed. Unnerving doesn't even come close. No matter how tooled up your hunter is, squaring up to a screaming monstrous fetus who uses an oversized placenta for a club is still going to shake you.
13:01The orphan is a walking blitzkrieg of punishment. Slamming around with its hideous weapons, lopping off explosives from its body, before cooling down a literal storm during its second phase to electrocute the surrounding shoreline.
13:13The Great Ones and their spawn are not to be trifled with.
13:17Osma, Final Fantasy IX.
13:28Ah yes, Final Fantasy's very own spinning beach ball of doom.
13:45Even compared to the embodiment of life and death that is Necron, Osma is in a different league.
13:51Its elemental barrages will constantly pinpoint your party's weaknesses.
13:55It has access to the hardest hitting attacks in the game, including level 5 death and meteor.
14:00And will heal itself while simultaneously casting AOE damage en masse, unless you go out of your way to complete certain side quests beforehand.
14:08It may not get as much recognition as other behemoths in the franchise, but you can't say you've tussled with the fantasy muscle until you've taken on Osma and its spherical supremacy.
14:18Promised Consort Radahn, Elden Ring.
14:30Now, the vow will be honoured, and my lord brother's soul will return.
14:38Returning from the dead to deliver a generational beatdown, Radahn's resurrection proved to be so earth shatteringly difficult that arguments could be made that he now stands tall as the hardest souls born boss to date.
14:51In his first phase alone, he can cripple you with the force of his swords, not to mention his fondness for busting out both blood and gravity magic.
14:59It's certainly a hurdle to overcome, but nothing compares to his second phase, where Mikula will appear, offer his aid, and turn his consort into a one man destroyer of worlds.
15:09Every attack now comes with an aftershock of holy damage, his classic meteor slam makes a grandiose comeback, and Mikula can even one shot you by making you fall madly in love with him. Yikes.
15:21Yikes.
15:33Elizabeth, Persona 3.
15:35I've been waiting for you.
15:39The adversary I'd like you to defeat is currently standing before you.
15:43Yes, to put it simply, I am referring to myself.
15:47By now we're all aware that the attendees to the Velvet Room make for the hardest secret bosses to stem from this beloved JRPG juggernaut, and among the roster, few pack as much of a wallop as Elizabeth.
15:59It's not just that you have to fight her solo and she has a collection of personas that hit way too damn hard, it's that her fight has unstated rules that will undo your every attempt unless you figure them out for yourself.
16:11Got a persona that repels or negates damage? You're gonna get nuked. Use the all-powerful Armageddon attack? You're gonna get nuked. Take more than 50 turns to finish the fight. Nuked!
16:24And even if you follow these rules, there's every chance Elizabeth will steamroll you unless your summons are at their apex.
16:30Demi Fiend. Shin Megami Tensei 5.
16:51Possibly the most famous face in the entirety of Megami Tensei, the Demi Fiend was already one of the franchise's strongest protagonists.
16:58So it only makes sense he would be one of its most dangerous bosses.
17:02It isn't just a case of finding a way to survive the never-ending gauntlet of instakill skills, but also land a hit.
17:09On account that if he's not nullifying certain types of damage, the Demi Fiend's naturally high resistances ensure that you're in for a scrap.
17:17And he's not alone, since, like the player, he'll also be summoning demons to help pile on the damage.
17:23And if you take too long to eliminate one of those, he'll cooldown another instant death bombardment. No rest for the wicked.
17:31Penance. Final Fantasy X.
17:52There are Superbosses, and then there is THE Superboss.
17:56Should you defeat all of the Dark Aeons, you're granted the chance to face this menacing monolith.
18:01With 12 million health points to its name, Penance is an absolute unit.
18:06And that's even if you exclude its two independent arms.
18:09Both tanks in their own right, and frankly makes Sin look like a pushover.
18:13Fail to deal enough damage in time, and there's every chance you're going to be on the wrong end of its Judgment Day attack.
18:19Which will decimate all of your health and mana in a single go.
18:23Best go make sure those celestial weapons are primed.
