00:00We're on my boat for the first sea trial today. Come with me, let's have some fun.
00:04That's right, we are taking my brand new Island Spirit 525E out for its first sail and sea trial.
00:12It was very exciting and just wait till you see these performance numbers. I was really impressed.
00:19We had put the boat in the water for the first time the day before. It was time to test
00:23everything.
00:28We took it out the other day for like 20 minutes just to kind of rev up the engines and
00:31everything, the motors and all that.
00:33But they're putting on the jib right now and once we get underway they're going to put on the main.
00:37Of course we have the Genoa, so we have the Jenniker and then the Code Zero as well. We'll work
00:41on those eventually.
00:43But yeah, we're going to take this out and go sailing on it today and put it under some sea
00:47trials and we're taking you with us.
00:56All right, so first thing we're doing today is getting the jib on there and then once we're underway because,
01:01you know, we'll turn into the wind to raise the main.
01:04But they had actually, so I got precision sails. I've always had precision sails for like the last 10 years
01:08sailing around.
01:09There's a link down in the description. They do really quality work on their sails.
01:14This sail actually had to be repaired because the delivery crew, that's another thing they messed up, is that, you
01:21know, it's got electric winches on this.
01:22So they got an electric furler, which is really nice, and then electric winches for the sheets and everything.
01:28And apparently they just overstressed it that they, I mean, like, they just didn't know what they were doing.
01:31And they ripped out some of the webbing from the, you know, from the clue of the sail.
01:37So they had to have that repair, but it looks in really good shape.
01:39This is the sail that was on my first boat. Same with all the sails.
01:42So they survived just fine. Precision sails.
01:47The offerings from the Buddhist blessing at the factory were still on the boat as we prepped the boat to
01:51go sail for the first time.
01:56I think even the puppy dogs were excited to go.
02:03The crew attached the sheets, and the wind was actually the proper direction that they could install the main while
02:09still in the sliver.
02:17The end mass furling makes it very easy to furl the main.
02:24So my main fear with the main sail here is that, you know, if they, if the delivery guys put
02:30so much stress on the jib that they ripped out the webbing,
02:33like, did they stretch out the main? It looked okay going in, honestly.
02:36It looked maybe a little bit fat in the middle, but like, not too bad.
02:40But the problem is with in mass furling, if you, if you, when, when you got to replace this, okay.
02:46Normally you have to replace your sails about every 10 years on an in mass furling.
02:50You might want to consider doing it more often because when the sail gets stretched out,
02:53it starts ballooning up and bunching up in the furler.
02:55And so you don't want to stretch out main for a furler.
02:57So maybe every seven years you got to replace it.
02:59That's the thing about this boat is that you never hear the engine starts.
03:03You don't know when you're about to go, but I think we're about to go.
03:07It was fairly low tide, so there wasn't much clearance between us and the bottom, but just enough to get
03:11out.
03:17It was actually a fairly tight slip because the boats across from us had boughs that protruded out quite a
03:22bit.
03:26Boy, that thing has some acceleration, man. He hit it. He floored it.
03:29I was like, oh my gosh.
03:39We headed out from the marina.
03:56So far, it's been pretty uneventful.
03:58Just kind of putting everything into its paces.
04:00You know, they give it, they just calibrate everything, you know,
04:03see what speeds and how much power it's pulling at certain RPM and stuff like that.
04:07And they're calibrating and the autopilot and all that stuff, trying to get it synced up.
04:12We're going to come over here in the lee of Monkey Island over here.
04:16Well, maybe there'll be some monkeys.
04:17Then we're going to put the dinghy left up and down, put the dinghy in the water,
04:20see, make sure it's working.
04:22And then we're actually, at that point, we'll kind of put some sails up and sail back to the marina.
04:32It was about a 15-minute run over to Monkey Island so we could get in the lee of the
04:35wind and waves.
04:40We are going to anchor here in a minute and test some systems,
04:43and we're all going to lower the thingy in the water.
04:46And, yeah, first time we've got to test the anchor, see if it works.
05:05So while they're dropping anchor, I'm going to go ahead and start getting the dinghy ready to high field.
05:14The boat comes with a pretty fast and powerful hydraulic lift.
05:18It makes moving the dinghy in and out of the water pretty easy.
05:21It was time to run the motor for the first time.
05:23I can already hear the comments.
05:24Yes, I checked the engine oil.
05:31I've always really loved these high field dinghies.
05:33They ride really well and stay pretty dry, especially if you have the double floor.
05:40Cougar, come on. Get up here. Come on.
05:43There you go. There you go.
05:45All right. Come on, guys.
05:56The 40-horse Yamaha cruises at 20 to 23 knots and tops out at 26 or 27 knots.
06:02Find out what I need, yeah.
06:05The center console and seat makes it really comfortable if we're going long distances.
06:09Come back down from this club.
06:13Taking me all this, all this time.
06:21I think the boys enjoyed their first ride in the dinghy.
06:32Olivia wanted to go for a ride, so I took her and the boys out for another spin.
06:37Unfortunately, Cougar decided to go for a swim.
06:39When you're back, let's go for a swim.
06:46Come here. Jumped in. Come here. Get over here.
06:52Come here.
07:01You just jumped in.
07:12Yeah, Cougar has no fear. That's something I'm going to have to keep an eye on.
07:15I may need to strap him into the dinghy every time.
07:19Back on board. It's time to unfurl the sails and get moving.
07:24All right, so rolling out the mainsail here and it's synchronized furling from Selden,
07:30so it'll pull the outhaul and ease out on the furling line or the little worm gear in there.
07:37And yeah, puts it out automatically.
07:39That's where most people have a problem with furling like that and mass furling is that
07:42it will bind up going in and out and this takes that out of the place.
07:50With the mainset, it was time to use the Selden electric furler to unfurl the jib
07:54and we were ready to sail.
08:08I was happy to see with only nine knots of true wind speed, we were already doing
08:12over five speed over ground.
08:15We're sailing now to five knots on nine and a half true, so slightly better than half wind speed,
08:20which is, you know, that's your goal, right?
08:23I can already hear some more comments. The boat speed needs to be calibrated. It is incorrect,
08:27but we were doing six and a half knots on only 11.8 true wind speed.
08:32This point's up to 6.7 on 11.2, 11.5. That's pretty good.
08:37Yeah.
08:38You know, this boat's a lot lighter than hull number one and they will be continue to be lighter.
08:42And then also, I think the folding props make a big difference too.
08:46And it's a, the folding props is just going to be, I mean, even though it's not very loud anyway,
08:50but if the props are just spinning, the motor spinning, the shaft spinning,
08:54and so then you always hear a little bit of like buzz from that, even though it's very quiet.
08:58But with the folding props, you don't hear any of that, you're just sailing.
09:01And so the folding props might be the way to go.
09:04Check out Gorey.
09:08I really was impressed just how much more speed this boat has compared to hull number one.
09:14They continue to make improvements on this boat and I think the later models will continue to improve even more.
09:33We didn't have the proper hardware yet to try out our Code Zero or Spinnaker,
09:36but I'm looking forward to giving those a shot as well.
09:38Take me all this, all this time
09:47I really am getting excited to go cruising around the world on this beautiful boat.
09:53Why do you, why do you, why do you, why do you, why do you, why do you, why do
09:59you, why do you, why do you, why do you, why do you, why do you?
10:03Come down
10:07I don't want to come back down
10:09I don't want this ground
10:11This ground
10:13This ground
10:14This ground
10:18This ground
10:20This ground
10:21This ground
10:23This ground
10:24This ground
10:53Oh
10:58We made it back to the marina and it was time to dock
11:03Like I said before it was a little tricky where our slip was there was not much room to spare
11:14The captain from Island Spirit made it just fine
11:19It has been a very long day so I think we're just gonna go get dinner and like
11:23Call it a wraps but because uh, you know basically we had to get everything ready
11:27I had to put together the entire kitchen make all the beds get all the mattresses like load everything
11:32I mean, you know everything from
11:35Unwrap and wash all of that stuff
11:38Same with this had to wash all this and soak all the you know the stuff to get the stuff
11:42off of them
11:43Put all the plates in here all that stuff
11:47And then of course, you know pots and pans
11:50Everything needs to go right there and then you know going down in the bedrooms
11:52There's more stuff down here. I mean
11:55so
11:56You know I had to make the beds
11:58All that stuff put all that away
12:01You know put all my clothes away and all that crap, you know
12:04And I had to make three trips out to the truck to go get all the stuff. So
12:08I'm exhausted. So I think we're just gonna grab dinner here in the marina
12:11Chill out and then tomorrow we'll try to get more stuff done
12:15Sounds like they're gonna need to boat till about friday doing all the little odds and ends. So
12:19We'll have plenty of time to get it all done. How would you think today?
12:23It was a busy day
12:25Everything good. Yeah. Yes. What did you think of the boat?
12:28Well, it's it's great. It's it's funny like I'm learning a lot
12:35For example, there are four buttons to flush the toilet. Yeah, it is a complicated toilet. So you gotta say
12:40all right
12:41Uh, so yeah, you want to take a shower? I'm gonna try when we get back, but let's just go
12:45to dinner here in the marina and then
12:47Better day tomorrow
12:51Make sure you're subscribed to the channel so you can catch us on the next video
