00:00G'day guys, we're Strick and Fran and in this new series we're planning to take our quirky
00:05floating home further than ever before, hoping to reach the Indonesian archipelago where 17,000
00:13islands wait to be explored. But together we'll first have to sail down the mighty Gulf of
00:19Carpentaria, one of the most remote and unexplored parts of Australia, a wild place where crocodiles
00:26and prehistoric creatures still rule the waterways.
00:34Then a cross into Arnhem Land, a land filled with ancient history, spiritual landscapes,
00:41hidden caves and a return to hunting the traditional way. Oh you got it! And then our first international
00:48ocean crossing. So buckle up, this is shaping to be one of our wildest adventures yet.
00:55Holy shit, look at the size of that fish! What an incredible fish, eh? Definitely looks like
01:02human bones, doesn't it?
01:08Subscribe to the channel to join us for it.
01:20Good morning guys and welcome back to a brand new series. Brand new series guys, we cannot wait to
01:26show you everything to come but first of all this morning you can see behind us the tide is really
01:31low
01:31and there's dolphins feeding, crocodiles feeding, hopefully that means barramundi feeding. So before
01:35we go anywhere let's go see if we can catch a fish in here and then we're going to set
01:39off and to be
01:39honest we're a little bit nervous about sailing for the first time since the cyclone. All different
01:44parts of the boat have been broken and repaired and we're a little bit nervous but we'll get to that
01:48a little bit later. Let's go catch a fish. Oh hello guys! Ready for me to come on board?
01:58Yeah, jump on. The engine just gulfed out a little bit. That'd be right, jump on.
02:05Let's go get some barras! Let's do it. Ready.
02:16There's a fish that lurks up in the murky mangrove waters in northern Australia. You'll often hear
02:22them before you see them. Oof! It sounds like a gunshot as they inhale bait fish off the surface
02:28and if you're lucky enough to hook a good one, mate, it's absolute chaos. They jump, they pull
02:34like a freight train and they'll do everything they can to brick you back in the snaps. You can spend
02:40all
02:40day getting eaten alive by sand flies, sweating your guts out, casting for hours in pretty miserable
02:45conditions. But the second a big barra explodes out of the water, none of that matters anymore.
02:51Because landing one of these fish, that's the kind of memory that sticks with you for life.
02:56I'm using a surface lure that pops along the top. Fran's using a golden bomber,
03:01which rattles and twitches just below the surface.
03:09Yes! Oh no! I didn't set the hook properly.
03:18Oh, look at all the bait. Oh, there's a barra under it. Oh, Fran, look at this barra under it.
03:23Oh, oh no!
03:30Oh, yes! Oh! Wait, I'd given up on him. I was just winding it in quickly to like get it
03:35out and then he
03:36went kaboom! Yeah, not quite legal size. There's definitely some more in there though, Fran, so I'll
03:40get the hook out and your turn to have a crack at one of them. Yeah. Okay, see you, mate.
03:45Here you go. Barra jumping everywhere at the moment. This is so exciting.
03:50Oh, there's a bigger one there as well. The one that you stopped the gun.
03:54No!
03:58He spat the hook straight back past the camera. What he's doing with these hooks?
04:05And there's this one.
04:09It's a very similar size to the barra I've got. Whoa!
04:13That was a skip.
04:15Eww! Finally!
04:17My first barra of the trip.
04:19He's a nice fish, Fran. Well done.
04:24Yeah, nice voice. Good work.
04:35There's a serious amount of fish in there, right?
04:36Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:39Oh, there is! Yes!
04:41Get him!
04:44Nice work.
04:45Got another one.
04:47Wait, there's a serious amount of fish in there, right?
04:54There's some bigger ones too, I reckon.
04:58Nice bag.
05:02Big in there.
05:08Oh, I need to get the big one though, Fran.
05:11Oh, that's the big one there.
05:13It's the little one.
05:16Wee!
05:17How cool is that, eh?
05:19This would have to be some of the hottest barramundi fishing I've ever had,
05:23and it's like 100 meters from our boat.
05:24This is awesome.
05:27Here goes.
05:28There's some big ones in here.
05:30Let's have another crack.
05:44Oh, yes!
05:48That was a huge bull.
05:50Yeah.
05:51How good was that?
05:54He feels like a fish.
05:58Wow, he just looked at us and spat it out.
06:03It was a bigger one, eh?
06:04When they hit it on the surface, it's so exciting.
06:17This spot is incredible.
06:19Every car.
06:23I've never had parafishing like this, eh?
06:25This is amazing.
06:28I thought we might have...
06:29Oh, jumping out the back.
06:30This one could be lunch, Fran.
06:32Look, look, look.
06:35Yeah, yeah, go, go.
06:36He might be too small as well.
06:38You go for trial, Fran, double.
06:41Get a double hookup, Fran.
06:44That's not fighting much.
06:50Double hookups.
06:53Spit it.
06:54Did he?
06:55Yeah.
06:55Catch and release.
06:56And let it go.
06:57How's that, though?
06:58What an awesome fishing session.
07:00Catch and release on your one?
07:02Yeah.
07:04This one is going to be lunch.
07:06He's just big enough for us.
07:10And it just started raining.
07:12What a timing.
07:14Back to Rame.
07:15Back to Rame.
07:36Fish fillets in cubes going straight in the fridge.
07:41And now we're going to embrace the rain and go get some coconuts.
07:46Next, boys.
07:46There's a hearth of今回ks.
07:46아니야, boy.
08:04Yeah.
08:11Here's what we see.
08:13All right.
08:13So good.
08:13Let's go now, man.
08:14There's a heap of old boats washed in on the beach here, tenders there, a lot of
08:19junk. I wonder if this is from that recent cyclone or whether it's a bit
08:23older. Let's have a walk, see what else we can find.
08:29So have a look at the quartz, the huge stone on the back of the...
08:46Look at me. How's that? Right next to the boat. How good is that?
08:54Good, eh? Something in the air at the moment, the bower are absolutely chewing their heads off.
09:10Packing up is not gonna be easy on this trip. We have all the toys.
09:15Surfboards, spearguns, point arrows, you name it. And all has to go into the hulls.
09:40Yum. Thank you very much. That looks amazing.
09:43Barra Loh wants to eat at the front, so...
09:49No, make it fall.
09:53Yum. So good. This is the softest fish I've ever had.
09:58Yeah? So soft, it melts in your mouth.
10:00No, it doesn't get much fresher, I suppose.
10:03I don't think it's the last meal Barramundi we'll be having any time soon.
10:07There's a few around, isn't there?
10:09Taste? Five out of five.
10:11Five out of five? I agree.
10:13You follow me? One out of five today?
10:16Today, yeah. Very easy.
10:17They're everywhere.
10:20Alright, I think we're all ready to go. How are you feeling?
10:24Nervous, to be honest. I haven't been this nervous since our first sail.
10:27Obviously, the boat's been through a cyclone.
10:29We've done a bit of work to it and just fingers crossed everything holds.
10:32At the moment the sound doesn't want to turn on.
10:35And it's so shallow.
10:59Far out. Good job. Really narrow.
11:04Oh, we're gonna do a big eat then. Yeah.
11:15We're going the right direction now. We sort of got all tangled up and had to go the wrong way
11:21for a little bit.
11:22But I think we're all good now.
11:23There's been a crocodile right here in this swamp.
11:27That has been watching us every night having a shower.
11:39Excited?
11:40I'm very excited.
11:41Good.
11:41It's good.
11:41It's perfect conditions.
11:43It's quiet. Not quiet.
11:44It's quiet and there's wind still.
11:47Alright.
11:48So far, so good.
11:49Touch wood.
11:50But everything's running well.
11:51Motor's running well.
11:51It's now time to put the sails up.
11:54This is what we're most nervous about.
11:55Let's see how we go.
12:00Alright, wait up. I'm winching on.
12:03Watch your head.
12:05The mast is moving too much.
12:10Yeah, we're gonna come down.
12:24Gotta loosen the jib sheet.
12:36Alright, there was a bit of a bummer, but we're sailing.
12:39The engine is off.
12:40The jib is off.
12:42And we're doing 3.4 knots.
12:44And there's a big stall coming.
12:46You alright there?
12:47Watch out here.
12:48Yeah.
12:49I'm gonna go learn some Spanish.
12:51Nice. Good luck.
12:59I've been doing my Spanish with Rosetta Stone.
13:02I recently went on a surf trip with some friends in Nicaragua
13:06while Jack was filming with his mate.
13:08And I hurt myself twisting my ankle on a wave.
13:11If it wasn't for Rosetta Stone,
13:13I would have been completely lost at the hospital.
13:16And that's what we love about Rosetta Stone,
13:19is that it's immersive.
13:20So it recreates real-life situations.
13:23And you're not just learning words,
13:25but you're learning how to communicate
13:26on a practical point of view.
13:28It covers a wide variety of everyday conversations,
13:33from home to health to dining out.
13:36So you can build language skills that you'll truly use.
13:40For example, Jack has been doing his Italian
13:42to speak with my family for a while now,
13:45and he's getting so much better.
13:47Più vino per favore.
13:49He really swears by it.
13:52Another thing is that it's super convenient.
13:54So you can do 10 minutes while sailing,
13:56or while you wait for the scroll to pass,
13:59before bed, on the bathroom,
14:02or even when you wake up,
14:03instead of scrolling on Instagram.
14:05We know that a lot of you like to travel
14:07and meeting people all over the world.
14:10If you're learning even a little bit of the local language,
14:13it will allow for a more authentic travel experience.
14:17The locals will welcome you in,
14:19instead of treating you like a complete tourist.
14:22And we got good news for you guys.
14:24Rosetta Stone is offering a massive discount
14:27to all of you.
14:28So you can scan the QR code
14:30or click the link in the description
14:32to start learning now.
14:33I'm sure you'll find it as useful as we did.
14:36Cheers.
14:39Yeah, we've definitely got a fish.
14:40No, no, we don't need to drop the sail.
14:42It's only a little one.
14:43How'd you ever do this?
14:45I don't know.
14:46We're going over pretty shallow,
14:47so it could be anything.
14:48I was hoping for a finger mark, but...
14:51It, uh...
14:52What's the color of it?
14:53It's a mackerel.
14:58Look at the crazy set of sharp teeth he's got, eh?
15:00But we'll let this guy go
15:03in hope that we can...
15:07You know, hey, so...
15:08Let's try and make that a barramundia or a finger mark.
15:16Oh, did you hear the thunder?
15:19Holy moly.
15:21Hopefully we can stay ahead of it.
15:24Land ahoy!
15:40Are you ready?
15:41Ready!
15:44Oh, it's nice to be back out here.
15:46This is going to be Anchorage for at least the night.
15:48It's pretty incredible, hey?
15:49Those really dramatic red cliffs behind us
15:52onto this bluey-green water.
15:53But we do have one issue.
15:55This was a shakedown trip,
15:56and unfortunately there's an issue with the mast.
15:59It just, uh...
16:00When we tried to get the sail up,
16:02it was flapping around like that,
16:03which it's not meant to do.
16:04So we've got a bit of work to do,
16:05and I'm a little bit nervous about that.
16:07But anyway,
16:08it's a nice spot to be doing some boat jobs.
16:10Alright, there's something really cool happening at the moment.
16:13I was flying the drone as we anchored,
16:16and there's dolphin mating in the shallow,
16:19real shallow.
16:21There's mobula race,
16:22there's eagle race,
16:24there's thornian lemon sharks
16:26feeding on the rocks.
16:27And the most exciting part,
16:31but Jack will tell you that one
16:32because he's very excited about that.
16:35I can't believe it,
16:36what you spotted on the drone, Fran.
16:38You're like, what are all these fish?
16:40I'm like, I think they're all barramundi.
16:42No, we've never seen schools of barramundi like this,
16:44and they're just literally like sitting in potholes
16:47in the shallow.
16:48It's incredible.
16:49How many you reckon?
16:50You wouldn't believe it
16:51if someone told it to you at the pub.
16:52It'd be like, in each pothole
16:54there might be like 20 fish, I think.
16:55And so like a hundreds of barram.
16:58It's crazy,
16:59but there's only going to be there
17:00while the tide is at this exact height.
17:02So we're going to get in the 10 to race down
17:03and see if we can,
17:04see if we can catch one.
17:07A couple of camera gear.
17:08How excited are you from one to 10?
17:10Oh, definitely a 10.
17:12You got all the weapons.
17:14Yeah.
17:14Yeah.
17:15Very, very excited.
17:16Like we've been droning for years
17:18looking for barramundi.
17:20I've never, never seen anything
17:21even close to like this.
17:23This is amazing what's going on here.
17:35All right, I'll draw a new calf.
17:38That's what I'm thinking.
17:39Uh huh.
17:40What are you thinking?
17:41I'm thinking.
17:41If we hook a fish straight away
17:43it'll spook that entire
17:44like pothole of fish.
17:45So I'm going to throw out
17:46a lure with no hooks on it.
17:48If we can capture these barra
17:49feeding in the shallows
17:51like a couple of boofs
17:52it would just be
17:53absolutely incredible.
17:54So we'll do that first
17:55and see if we can get a bit
17:56of action on camera
17:57and then we'll try to catch one.
17:58What do you reckon?
17:59Sounds good.
18:01So they're literally just potholes like this.
18:04All right, going.
18:05Three, two, one.
18:14Oh, boof.
18:16Two of them.
18:17Again.
18:18Three.
18:19Another one.
18:21Four.
18:24They're still going it Fran.
18:26How cool was that?
18:26Straight down the middle.
18:27Straight down the middle.
18:40Straight down the middle.
18:41Oh, just here.
18:44Going.
18:47Oh.
18:48Yes.
18:50Oh ho ho.
18:51He just spat it straight back at me.
18:55Oh, right on the heat's head.
18:58They're chasing it.
19:00They're chasing it.
19:01Oh.
19:03Oh, yes.
19:05Yes.
19:05Woo hoo hoo.
19:10Yes, we go up.
19:11No.
19:13No.
19:14He spat the hooks again right there.
19:18Oh.
19:19Oh.
19:21Oh.
19:22Oh.
19:23Oh.
19:23Oh.
19:24One hit it.
19:25Come on.
19:27Yes.
19:28Oh, big.
19:28Yes.
19:29Woo hoo hoo.
19:31Yes.
19:34Yes.
19:35He's jumping all the way in.
19:37Woo hoo.
19:38Jumping.
19:39What a beauty.
19:41That's what they're doing.
19:43They're just sitting in these potholes like that.
19:47Yeah.
19:48We got him in the shallow pool.
19:50Yew.
19:51And that is exactly what they looked like on the drone.
19:54Just sitting in these shallow little pools harassing any bait fish.
19:58Amazing, eh?
19:59That is just incredible.
20:00We've seen about a hundred at least of these fish right in the shallows there.
20:05Watching him smash that popper over and over again.
20:07I think he was fighting for it over with a couple of others.
20:10And that is just amazing.
20:11It doesn't get any better for land based fishing in Australia than that.
20:14I'm on.
20:16Woo hoo.
20:18Nice work, Frank.
20:19Get him in.
20:19In the city.
20:21Great job.
20:22Yeah.
20:23Look at that.
20:24Woo hoo.
20:25Oh, catch and release.
20:26Hi.
20:30Nice work.
20:32Well done.
20:32Got one bar each.
20:34Got one for dinner, eh?
20:35Ah, ah, ah, get it off.
20:41It's just the weight.
20:42No, no.
20:42It wasn't the spike.
20:44It was just the weight for some reason.
20:45It was getting me on a weird angle.
20:51Mission success.
20:52That's funny, right?
20:53So we actually weren't sure we could catch something for dinner tonight.
20:57So I got some steaks that need to be eaten.
21:00And then one is going in the fridge for tonight.
21:02It only leaves like with one meal of steak as a bit of a treat.
21:05And I think it needs to be eaten tonight.
21:07So Mr. Barra can be on tomorrow night's menu.
21:12What a treat steak.
21:16Bon appetit.
21:18See you in the morning.
21:29Morning.
21:53It's all wet.
21:54There's a big storm coming, Fran.
21:59It's all wet.
22:00It's all wet.
22:00It looks nasty.
22:03It's windy.
22:03Here she comes.
22:04This is potentially a pretty nasty one.
22:15It's nice being out here, Fran, but I don't miss these moments.
22:19Where you're just hanging on with the boating gear, hoping that the anchor line doesn't drag
22:24and you end up on the rocks.
22:31Just in case.
22:33Just in case, we're going to drag anchor.
22:35Just in case.
22:36So normally where you want to anchor is like to have some land protecting you, which is what we've got.
22:41The wind is normally coming that way, but the storms come through and it's straight onshore.
22:47So if our anchor gives way, we drag, we're going to end up on the rocks.
22:52So just start at the end just in case.
22:54There's a fair bit of wind in this as well.
22:57Oh, that's howling.
22:59It's pretty nasty this one.
23:00It's scary.
23:01Yeah.
23:01It's scary.
23:06I can't see anything out there at the moment.
23:09You can breathe a little sigh of relief.
23:12Looks like the worst of it has gone.
23:15But man, it was a pretty tense hour or so.
23:17You forget about all these dodgy times.
23:19You just kind of remember the good times.
23:20But yeah, a bit of a wake up call and a reminder.
23:22We always need to be onto it.
23:25All right.
23:25The storm has passed.
23:27We're going ashore to stretch our legs.
23:28We've been inside working all day and outside in the rain.
23:33Isn't that right?
23:34That's right.
23:34It's been pretty full on.
23:36Let's go and explore.
23:37It almost looks like there's a couple of swimming holes that might have some fresh water there that run down
23:41the beach.
23:41It's got a little.
23:43Water in the tender?
23:45Yeah.
23:55We just spotted something really cool.
23:58There's a waterfall crawling off the cliff.
24:02It's going to be a bit hard to anchor.
24:04Wow.
24:06As we get closer, there's actually water coming off everywhere on the cliff.
24:12Wow.
24:13You can hear it.
24:14All this water around us is like that bright red color of the walk side.
24:18Yeah.
24:18How cool is that?
24:20Water falls through the red cliffs.
24:23You can go and have a fresh water shower around.
24:25Yeah.
24:26Watch out.
24:27There's a couple of rocks sinking out.
24:29It's so cool.
24:33That's awesome.
24:34There must be like a swamp or a billabong or some kind of a body of water up the top
24:38and then it just flushes through the red rocks like that.
24:47Yeah.
24:48So murky.
24:49Can't see anything.
24:54There's a crazy amount of rubbish here.
24:57I was not expecting this.
24:59Look at all the plastic.
25:01There'd be hundreds if not thousands of plastic water bottles just in this section.
25:06All sorts of trash.
25:07But maybe in amongst it, there might be something like a glass bubble or a treasure for it.
25:12It's coming out of a different planet, eh?
25:15It looks like Mars.
25:16It does look like Mars.
25:19Wow.
25:20That is massive shell.
25:22You think a croc tried to eat it?
25:25Something has crunched it, haven't they?
25:27I think so.
25:28It's pretty cool.
25:29It's very big.
25:30Nice find.
25:32In amongst all the rubbish.
25:38Not the best idea with my ankle like that.
25:40It's so hot.
25:44It's so hot.
25:44It's really hot.
26:06We're down.
26:07We're waiting for it to come back up.
26:09Isn't it quite eerie?
26:10there's like a four-meter crocodile. We can't see him, we can't see him. It's so sneaky.
26:14When they don't want to be seen, they're just, yeah, you want to see him along the bank.
26:39Jack, what are you up to? Just taking the guts out of this barramundi. Getting him ready for the fire.
26:55There's a perfect bed of cold there now for this barramundi.
27:01All right, here we go.
27:33Cheers.
27:41Mmm, yum. It's actually cooked to perfection, isn't it? Yeah. Oh, look at the chippies.
27:48Mmm, this is one of the better beach kitchens we've had. It's bloody beautiful, eh? Crocodiles
27:54out the front, hammerheads, sharks. Oh, there's maybe a dugong or turtles. See that? Oh, that's
27:59the hammerhead. That's the hammerhead. That's the hammerhead.
28:03How is that right when I was talking about him? The hammerhead, he just popped up.
28:06What would you say, of course?
28:08That hat's a hammerhead, he just popped up.
28:10Bye.
28:14Bye.
28:15Bye.
