00:02This program is rated G and considered acceptable for all ages.
00:12Eight weeks ago,
00:14four teams arrived with vision, grit, and everything to prove.
00:19Aggression, aggression!
00:22They were handed four empty shells.
00:24Look at all the natural light.
00:26And challenges that pushed them to their limits.
00:29Oh my God, I'm so stressed out.
00:31Epic disaster.
00:32I'm done with this.
00:35Absolutely not.
00:36They reimagined the old.
00:38Climbing all the way to the top.
00:40And took on the new.
00:41Beast mode.
00:42Now, their lake houses are finally complete.
00:46All right.
00:47Yes!
00:48With only one team to be crowned champions.
00:52Money, money, money!
00:53This is a $100,000 decision to be made.
00:56It all comes down to this.
00:58The winning team is...
01:05The ultimate renovation competition is back.
01:09We built four brand new lake houses from the ground up.
01:13Now, four powerhouse designer contractor duos from across North America will take on the ultimate renovation competition.
01:20Their mission to turn these blank slates into amazing vacation destinations in just eight weeks.
01:28The team with the best lake house will be crowned renovation resort champions.
01:33And take home $100,000.
01:37I'm Brian Baumler.
01:39And I'm Scott McGillivray.
01:40Let the lake house battle begin.
01:42This is Renovation Resort.
01:54Having won two monumental areas of a home, we're feeling really confident walking into the finale.
02:00I don't know what's in store for this final challenge, but whatever it is, we got to nail it.
02:05I'm very nervous because this is the end.
02:08I am treating this competition just like I do my opposing counsel in the courtroom.
02:13I am going to crush you.
02:15Well, this is it.
02:16You've made it.
02:18Woo!
02:21Standing here, surrounded by your peers and amongst your competition, you should be incredibly proud of what you've accomplished.
02:29But make no mistake, this journey is not quite over.
02:34There's one last challenge that stands between you and the title of Renovation Resort Champions.
02:41All season long, you've been crafting a story through design.
02:45Every wall and every detail has told us something about who you are.
02:50And now it's time to bring that vision to life one last time.
02:55For your final challenge, we want you to create a bold branding moment.
03:00Not a room, not a renovation, a statement.
03:04A sculptural standout piece that will be mounted to the front of your lake house.
03:08Something that will tell every visitor exactly what kind of experience lies ahead before they walk in the door.
03:17We've set up temporary workstations by the water for your final challenge.
03:21And for this task, you only have six hours.
03:26What?
03:26So work fast, think smart, and give this everything you've got.
03:30Okay.
03:31When the clock runs out, Brian and I will not only judge your work in this final challenge, but also
03:39your property overall.
03:40This really could elevate one team from contenders to champions.
03:46And in case you need a reminder of what's at stake, you may want to look over your shoulders.
03:52Wait!
03:54Whoa!
03:57It said toll docks!
04:00This one's a little different.
04:01Oh my god!
04:03That is awesome!
04:06Oh my god!
04:08We're wrapping up on our dock!
04:12Whoa!
04:13Whoa!
04:15There is officially $100,000 on the dock.
04:20We would love to win this.
04:23Whatever I have to do, I'm here to win the whole challenge.
04:27This is it.
04:29Your final chance to prove yourselves.
04:32This challenge starts now!
04:35Woo!
04:36Go!
04:36Go!
04:37Go!
04:37Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry!
04:39That money really got the money.
04:40Kids sure did.
04:41Okay.
04:42All right.
04:43We gotta go big.
04:44I agree, but we also only have six hours.
04:48What do you want to do?
04:49It's our last challenge.
04:51I know.
04:52This is it.
04:52The branding challenge.
04:53You're really honing in on your property now and making sure that you've got the best
04:59marketing in the business.
05:01You gotta sell the guest experience and you gotta sell us that you've done a great job wrapping this up.
05:05That is gonna determine who wins Renovation Resort and who takes home $100,000.
05:12We do have to make something that will be able to withstand the elements.
05:15We already have a logo that we've been using throughout the house.
05:19We can hang something.
05:20Okay.
05:20I know.
05:21I like that idea.
05:21So I want to make sure that we lean into that.
05:24At this point, Scott and Brian will expect it.
05:26I love the idea of a sign.
05:27I love the idea of it feeling like it's like hanging from a village inn or an antique shop.
05:31This home needs a gorgeous sign that reminds us of our childhood village.
05:37We have to make a piece of coral or something.
05:38Of course.
05:39I mean, there's no question that it's gotta be coral.
05:42For our lake house branding challenge, we want to create a large piece of coral that represents
05:46the name and the feeling of Coral Cove.
05:49But it needs to be really deep so we can create the dimension off the wall that we need.
05:54So now we just gotta figure out, how do you make coral?
05:56How do you make a really large coral?
06:01I'm thinking something that just is above our bench.
06:03Okay.
06:04A morphed looking space texture.
06:08Right.
06:08I love the idea of sticking two minimalistic textured pieces with little to no wording.
06:16What if we made a nice wood sign and we could do some sort of engraving?
06:20I think I have the tools here.
06:21Yeah, I like that idea.
06:23So we'll have our logo.
06:24We're gonna have the Cedar Shore.
06:26When guests walk into our lake house, I want them to have just that exhale.
06:32That they're at a place that is complete peace where they can create memories that they're
06:37gonna talk about years after that.
06:39We really don't have a lot of time.
06:40It's gotta look good, but we're gonna be able to get it done too.
06:44Yeah.
06:45We could make a sand box to like create a flat mold and pour like quick set concrete in
06:51that.
06:51I just don't want it to look flat.
06:53At least one or two pieces of coral need to really stick around from the wall.
06:58Yeah.
06:59Be really textural.
07:00Yeah.
07:00So I'm gonna construct the coral on a hope and a prayer.
07:04Quick set concrete would be dry in like three hours.
07:08Hmm.
07:10So I think we might just take the risk.
07:13You willing?
07:14I'm a lawyer.
07:15I hate risk.
07:17This is ambitious, but we're gonna take the chance because we need coral at Coral Cove.
07:27These are gonna be perfect.
07:29This texture right here will look really good inside the coral.
07:34We all love flowers, so we can incorporate some sort of flower through this.
07:39I like birds also.
07:41I feel like that represents our family with all of our loved ones.
07:44I love that, Melissa.
07:45So we could do some sort of a bird on there.
07:48Maybe like sitting on a piece of driftwood.
07:50I'm thinking clay.
07:52Okay.
07:53Rolling it out and then creating like bumps and wrinkles in it.
07:58What are your thoughts on if we add little dots everywhere?
08:01Yeah.
08:02Little holes.
08:02And I created a box on the back with LED lighting.
08:06So you'd see little twinkle lights everywhere.
08:08I love that light factor.
08:09Do you think this is gonna dry in six hours?
08:11I know.
08:11That's why I need to start now.
08:14I saw a really nice couple pieces of wood up top.
08:17We should go grab them before somebody else says.
08:19I wanna make sure we have the best.
08:20This sign is so important to us, especially if we're finishing with this.
08:24I wanna make sure that it's a piece that actually represents the lake house through and through.
08:29We got this, Marcie.
08:30I think that's gorgeous.
08:30I think so too.
08:32I'm excited.
08:32Let's take it home.
08:36I wanna see a statement piece.
08:38Maybe a sign.
08:39Maybe a statue.
08:40Statue of us.
08:42Well, I don't know who would wanna book that place.
08:46Okay.
08:47Slap it up here.
08:48Oh, careful.
08:49So we got this beautiful slab.
08:51Yeah.
08:52It's got a live edge on it right now.
08:55We don't really have anything like that in the house, right?
08:57Well, then I gotta mill it.
08:58I'm gonna cut it down.
09:00Yeah, we'll get rid of this.
09:01I need you to do things that no one else here can.
09:05I'm up for the challenge.
09:08Ugh.
09:09This branding challenge is bittersweet.
09:12It's our last challenge.
09:13Look at that.
09:14It's a complete crack down the center.
09:17I'm scared.
09:18This is all the wood that's left.
09:20It's like a big crack.
09:21If I cut it, I feel like it's gonna just, like, split in half.
09:25How are we gonna fix this?
09:27You're just going to flip it and fill it.
09:31No, no, no, no, no.
09:32It's all good.
09:33It's all good.
09:33Clean it up.
09:38I need to roll out this clay as fast as possible.
09:40This still needs to dry, and we don't have a lot of time.
09:44I've learned not everything will go as smoothly as we want it to,
09:48no matter how hard you plan.
09:52The hardest part about something like this is knowing when to stop.
09:58Okay, Shallan.
09:59I think while I attach the bottom of our mold, I'm gonna get some sand.
10:03I have unresolved trauma from the Crack the Code challenge,
10:07and Liz is making me go have therapy with the sand,
10:10and I am now digging one more time.
10:14Can't believe I'm back here.
10:16I started this competition digging,
10:18and I'm ending it digging.
10:19This time, I am digging for the win.
10:27Gonna need a lot more of this.
10:29Yeah.
10:30Some more digging.
10:36Over the last few months, not only have the competitors been on a journey of self-discovery,
10:41but we've been on our own journey.
10:43Oh!
10:44Woo!
10:46Something stinks from this angle.
10:48Oh!
10:48He's my friend!
10:49Oh!
10:50Hello, Froggy!
10:51We've built our own great memories here.
10:52We have built our own great memories.
10:55Woo-hoo!
10:56Bouncy!
10:57Bouncy!
10:57Got him.
10:58Get the net.
10:59Woo-hoo-hoo!
11:00This way.
11:01Oh!
11:01It's heavier when it's full of air.
11:02It's like you, Brian.
11:03Ahoy!
11:05Ha-ha-ha!
11:07What's happening here?
11:09Ha-ha-ha!
11:11I feel like, finally, we're starting to make a great team.
11:16Me and you?
11:17Yeah.
11:18As a team.
11:18I'm getting a little emotional this year.
11:19There's no losers here.
11:21There are no losers here.
11:24We have a lot of work to do.
11:26Yeah.
11:33Driftwood, and then dunes.
11:36Liz!
11:39You want to sand?
11:40I got you sand.
11:42Yeah?
11:42Let's see.
11:47Girl, should be enough.
11:49Uh-oh.
11:50Am I spilling you?
11:51You're good.
11:51We can actually create channels within the sand.
11:56We're gonna mix together quick-set concrete and pour that in.
12:00Does it look like that?
12:02No, it's gonna look like our Coral Cove's coral.
12:07This is just two.
12:11I'm feeling more confident about the concrete grabbing on now.
12:18The competitors have been here almost eight weeks.
12:20This is now their final opportunity to tie everything together
12:25in a neat little bow and take home the title.
12:28This is where they can really make it or break it.
12:30The final challenge.
12:32The final.
12:34The two T's.
12:35Hey.
12:36That is a lot of detail.
12:38We're gonna have to get the old artistic vibes out right now.
12:42That's, uh...
12:43Yeah, I know.
12:43I should have chosen an easier logo, but we've already...
12:46This seems to be our theme.
12:47Let's chew off a little bit more than we can handle.
12:49Using the Dremel to create this.
12:51It's like, okay, Grandpa's heading to the garage.
12:54We'll see him in a couple of months.
12:55And speaking of Grandpa, I'm actually trying to channel that a little bit.
13:00My grandfather in the last kind of year of his life had Parkinson's,
13:03but he actually started carving in wood and everything like that.
13:07Oh, wow.
13:07That's amazing to incorporate some family memories in there like that.
13:10Mm-hmm.
13:11But you've chosen a difficult design.
13:13It's not gonna be an easy task at all.
13:16Here's my advice.
13:17With the limited time you have, I would tell anyone that's a distraction to get away from you.
13:22See you later.
13:23See you later.
13:24Good luck, guys.
13:27Oh, hello.
13:27Hello.
13:29What are we doing?
13:29We're gonna be routing the edge, so we wanted to make sure...
13:32Rounding it over, chamfering, or...?
13:33Yeah.
13:33We have a stencil.
13:35Oh.
13:35So this is a symbol that means a lot to us.
13:38I'm trying to guess what the symbol is.
13:39Okay.
13:40Oh, it's the heart and a lung and the spleen.
13:44It's a bird.
13:45A bird on some driftwood with some flowers.
13:48It seems a little simple.
13:50Where is it gonna be displayed up front?
13:51We're gonna hang it off of the post at the front.
13:53Oh, okay.
13:54We're gonna make a hanger for it.
13:55Okay.
13:56Yeah.
13:56All right, well, I'm looking forward to it.
13:57I'll leave you alone now.
13:59Thank you so much.
14:02What kind of gymnastics are going on over here?
14:05Hey!
14:06Hey!
14:06What are we making?
14:08An intergalactic sort of icon.
14:10It will emulate a little bit of the stars.
14:12Almost the moon plaster aesthetic that we have going on in our lake house.
14:16How are we feeling about this last challenge?
14:18We're putting our all into this, but the big win that we're all competing for is the last one.
14:23Yes.
14:23That clay is really wet.
14:25We need this to dry in time.
14:27Right.
14:27It could take up to a day, but I'm hoping that it'll be dry enough to hang.
14:31Is it going to dry and then when it rains, it's just gonna turn into like...
14:35Oh, we'll not be doing that.
14:37No?
14:37No chance.
14:38Okay.
14:38Well, this'll be, uh...
14:40This'll be interesting.
14:41Yeah.
14:41Good luck.
14:42Thanks, Ryan.
14:45Shalon and Liz.
14:47Hello.
14:47Hi.
14:48Okay.
14:49Welcome to Coral Cove.
14:50I see concrete.
14:51This looks like a coral mold.
14:54Oh!
14:55See?
14:56That's exactly what it is.
14:58So you've just got the pieces in here.
14:59I see we got some shells.
15:01Yep.
15:01Yep.
15:02What's the plan for the final look?
15:04We'll spray paint it white and then add coral details.
15:07Yeah.
15:07And let the shells live and stand on their own.
15:09Do you think paint and shells will make it bright enough?
15:11Hopefully the concrete's gonna pick them all up.
15:14So you're looking at a really, really wet mix of cement with no rocks or anything in it.
15:21This is gonna be gooey.
15:24Yeah.
15:24You're just going for it.
15:25Yeah.
15:25It's our only move.
15:27I think we've been going for it this whole competition.
15:29This is gonna be interesting.
15:31Hopefully interesting in a good way.
15:33We're gonna find out.
15:34I don't know what to expect here.
15:39I think the check-ins went really well.
15:40I like to see the progress the teams are making.
15:42Marcy and Melissa.
15:44It seems to be a very simple, clean layout.
15:47But I do have concerns there.
15:48It might be too simple.
15:49Tatiana and Thomas have a really ambitious plan.
15:52They have a tremendous amount of confidence.
15:55I don't want to see that bite them.
15:57I see the stress on Shallan's face.
15:59I just hope that it's not too dark when it all comes together.
16:03Taylor and Meridad could really be something you walk in and just wows you.
16:07Stood out from the wall, backlit.
16:09This could be incredible.
16:10I'm really concerned about execution.
16:11But I love being proven wrong.
16:19Earthquake!
16:22Oh, my mum.
16:26I'm nervous because the sculpture is not dry.
16:28We don't have a lot of time.
16:30I just want to create some sort of heat box.
16:34We're really pressed for time on this one.
16:36If we touch it too soon, I worry that it's going to crack.
16:39And there goes our chances at winning $100,000.
16:44Well, let me mess around with the bits and then you can try to draw out and scribe these trees
16:50in.
16:51They're going to be a lot of work.
16:52Thomas works with wood all the time and he's quite skilled at it.
16:56No room for error.
16:57At all.
16:58You've reminded me multiple times.
17:00Good.
17:01I want to really take this task on.
17:03It is so detailed.
17:05If something were to happen, I don't want to blame Thomas for it.
17:08I'd rather take the L.
17:11See how it's sloppy there?
17:13Like, can you make it cleaner?
17:14Let me try.
17:15I do have my concerns of what we're doing because we don't want it to look sloppy.
17:19And I know that Tatiana in the end, if it looks a mess, she's going to be upset.
17:25If you go outside the line a little bit, it's going to look really sloppy.
17:30You have to do all the letters and you can't mess up one.
17:34I'm scared that we're super behind from the rest of the teams.
17:36I don't know if I have time to do that many letters.
17:42This final challenge will be a major factor.
17:45There's no taking your foot off of the gas.
17:47They better take it seriously because the decisions haven't been made yet.
17:51It's so cold here.
17:53This sculpture is not drying.
17:55I don't think we have another choice.
17:56We need to move this inside somewhere.
17:58You guys want to come home?
17:59Yeah, I don't mind.
18:00You guys want an extra set of hands?
18:02Please.
18:03I don't know what's going to happen.
18:05I don't have a plan B.
18:09Don't cry.
18:11Why are you crying?
18:12It's going to be okay.
18:14It's beautiful already and I don't even know what it is.
18:17Everyone in this challenge, we're all going through the same thing.
18:20We have a shared experience and we've all had that moment where we're about to break down.
18:24If we can just hold it tight to the table here.
18:26Yeah.
18:26And slide it like a pizza.
18:28Be careful.
18:34Oh, I see it's still wet.
18:36Yeah.
18:38Thank you everybody.
18:39In a moment of sheer panic, to see all the competitors support us in the way that they did makes
18:45me so grateful.
18:50Yeah, that's poor.
18:52That looks good.
18:54These work.
18:57We're going to cross our fingers and hope it dries in time because we have six hours for this challenge
19:02and dry time is super important.
19:07It looks like freaking coral, man.
19:09It does.
19:10We don't have any other options.
19:11This has to work.
19:12Whatever comes out of that mold is going up on their wall.
19:18I haven't routered anything in a long time, especially freehand.
19:24I'm nervous.
19:28Oh no.
19:30I made a big mistake on this sign.
19:33Shoot!
19:34What the heck happened?
19:35I went off the rails.
19:37Oh no.
19:38Turns out, I'm not good at routering.
19:41If this is the backside and it's all painted blue, and then you just do the straightest line you can
19:47in these parts.
19:48I think I've ruined our sign.
19:50You'll see that.
19:51You won't see that too much.
19:52Yes, you will.
19:53We could cover it with paint.
19:55Oh my gosh.
19:59The sand is still very, very wet.
20:02That's not a good look for concrete.
20:05Just start pushing it out.
20:07I thought we could brush it away, but it is just still clumps of wetness.
20:12Eventually.
20:12It's time to dig.
20:13We're about to be archaeologists at this point.
20:18The parts that were thick weren't.
20:22The parts that weren't are just rocks.
20:24We can see some of the skeleton that we created.
20:29The shells are coming off, and we know that the concrete didn't really dry.
20:33And it's not going to have the shape that we anticipated.
20:38I'm not sure.
20:41I'm trying not to get in my head that this is the last competition, and what if this whole thing
20:46falls apart?
20:47Is she heavy?
20:48Oh no.
20:55Now you're through.
20:57There's a lot of repair to do.
20:59Now it's time for surgery.
21:01Just when you think that something is falling apart, it ends up better than you anticipated.
21:07But we don't have another three hours for this to dry.
21:15Our sculpture is still wet.
21:18I'm worried that if we try and hang it, it's going to break.
21:23Okay, so, new plan.
21:25This isn't going to be dried completely by the time we need to hang it.
21:29Instead of assembling it as one large piece, like a moon crater,
21:33I think we should take it into a different direction where I go ahead and I break these into six
21:38different pieces.
21:39Okay.
21:40And then we'll assemble it in the formation of almost like a cherry blossom.
21:44I don't know. If you want to do this, let's do it.
21:46But we are running out of time.
21:47I am so nervous.
21:49The thing with breaking apart a sculpture is there's no going back.
21:53So everything is very permanent.
21:55That puts so much pressure on me, and I don't want to let my partner down.
21:59I'm not going down without a fight.
22:02Okay, okay, okay, okay.
22:06Teams, you have one hour left.
22:08Holy cabana.
22:13I've never done anything like this before.
22:16With $100,000 on the line, it's a funny time for me to try this out.
22:20I know I had my doubts about Tatiana hand engraving this whole sign that we were going to pull it
22:25off in time.
22:26Everyone doubted me.
22:28Especially me.
22:30I think it's the best representation of us.
22:33It's a beautiful piece that's going to stand the test of time just like we will.
22:37Everyone else is nearing the finish line.
22:40I feel a little behind right now.
22:42You think I should clay it?
22:44I don't...
22:45I would like to.
22:46I honestly don't know if this thing is going to look good.
22:48Start little, so if we can't finish it all, then it looks like we did it on purpose.
22:53Looking at it from above, it looks like a blob of stuff.
22:57I can't even tell what it is.
22:59Okay, competitors.
23:01You ready?
23:02Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.
23:11Twoels down.
23:12Okay.
23:13Congratulations, teams.
23:14That's it.
23:14You've completed your final challenge.
23:17Okay.
23:18Okay.
23:18One, two, three.
23:20That's gorgeous.
23:21So pretty.
23:23Smart.
23:23Perfect.
23:29We did that.
23:33I'm going to put it on you over there.
23:35Oh my gosh.
23:36Oh my God.
23:40Oh my God, it looks so good.
23:43Yeah?
23:44This house is officially done.
23:46The lights look so good.
23:48That was such a good idea.
23:49Stepping back and taking a look at what we've accomplished in such a short amount of time is just mind
23:56-boggling.
23:57I can't lie, when it was sitting on its back, I was like, I don't know.
24:00But it's up.
24:00I'll give it to you.
24:02I absolutely love it.
24:04It feels amazing to be here in this moment.
24:07I'm proud of Tatiana and both of us for being here.
24:10That was a lot of engraving.
24:12It looks so good.
24:14Amazing.
24:14The scale worked out perfectly, too.
24:17Mm-hmm.
24:17We did that.
24:18Yeah, we did that.
24:19And it's time to close the chapter.
24:23Wow.
24:24Wow.
24:27That friendliest neighbor.
24:30This is a very bittersweet moment.
24:32It was eight short weeks ago that our competitors arrived.
24:35And now this is a resort that will be booked and many families will build great memories based on what
24:42these competitors have put together.
24:44We are family now.
24:45Yeah!
24:54Well, this is it, Brian.
24:56Let's check out the team's branding.
24:58Moonlight Bay.
25:00Moonlight Bay.
25:02Do you see a moon anywhere, Scott?
25:04That's a moony.
25:05Oh, my goodness.
25:06That's serious.
25:07Do you see the light through here?
25:08So they've done LED light in behind this.
25:11Okay.
25:11If you arrive in the evening, it's going to glow a little.
25:13A little sparkle, yeah.
25:14It's fully made out of clay by hand.
25:16This is abstract art, and it looks like they put some lime wash on it.
25:20To me, it's a little mysterious.
25:22Yeah.
25:22It doesn't look like a moon.
25:23It looks more like a flower or a sand dollar or a sea creature.
25:29It reminds me of your face a little.
25:31Messy and abstract, but something.
25:34But there's something about it you really, really like.
25:39Right?
25:40It generates curiosity.
25:42That's true.
25:43What's the value of that when you pull in and you're like,
25:46is that a sand dollar or the moon or a flower?
25:49I need to know.
25:50I would have liked to have seen Moonlight Bay written in text somewhere.
25:54A little literal doesn't hurt when you're trying to brand a vacation home.
25:58The fact that it's an original piece, they made it themselves.
26:01I give them a tremendous amount of credit for that.
26:03And much like their design, it's consistently simple.
26:06I think it's a really cool logo.
26:08All right.
26:09Moonlight Bay.
26:09Moonlight Bay.
26:11On to the next.
26:14Coral Cove.
26:15Oh, wow.
26:16Coming at ya.
26:18Look at that.
26:19That's a serious piece of coral.
26:21It sure is.
26:22Oh, my God.
26:23What in the world is this made of?
26:26It's cement.
26:26It is going to survive the elements and the weather.
26:30Huh.
26:30It does look like a piece of coral.
26:32I love the ambition behind it.
26:34It's an independent piece.
26:35It's abstract.
26:36It's unique.
26:37No one else is going to have something like this.
26:39It says what it is.
26:40Coral Cove.
26:41I think they nailed it in terms of expressing the brand.
26:45Mm-hmm.
26:46I don't love the piece of coral.
26:48I think it's a bit rocky and a bit brown.
26:50It could have been a little lighter and fresher.
26:53It feels like dirty coral.
26:55I did not think Shallan and Liz were in a very good place.
26:59Oh.
26:59I thought they were a little underwater.
27:01I'm impressed.
27:02Okay.
27:02That this came out of what I saw.
27:05Shallan and Liz have always gone big.
27:07And I think this is consistent with everything we've seen from them.
27:10So I don't think anyone's going to be thrown off from seeing this and then walking through their door.
27:16Let's swim over to the next lake house.
27:18Let's see what the neighbors are up to.
27:24Driftwood Dunes.
27:27No vacancy.
27:27I was hoping we could check in and have a nice weekend.
27:30Oh, I was hoping on the back it was going to say vacancy.
27:34Well, I think they're hoping it's never going to say vacancy.
27:37When you head up north, you know, when you start to see all the lake houses that all the signs
27:42are hanging at the road.
27:44Yes.
27:44This is, I think, right in line with expectations.
27:49Yeah.
27:49Of what you would find in a lake house.
27:51I think this gives you a great sense of the feeling that you're going to have when you walk inside.
27:56It's warm.
27:57It's light.
27:58It's airy.
27:58It's got a traditional familiarity to it.
28:01But I'm looking at this from a longevity standpoint.
28:03The signs we've seen so far are going to hold up to the weather.
28:06They're going to look exactly the same a year from now.
28:08This plywood, after one winter season, is going to be cracked open.
28:14It's going to start falling apart.
28:16The overlays here and the letters, I mean, it's going to require a bit of maintenance.
28:20Maybe put it up higher above the door in that area.
28:23It would have been protected more.
28:25For the time that they had, I think they did a great job.
28:28And bonus points for being double-sided, for sure.
28:31Okay.
28:31All right.
28:32Let's check next door.
28:34Cedar Shore.
28:34Cedar Shore.
28:35Oh, look at that.
28:37Whoa.
28:38That's a good-looking sign.
28:40The detail.
28:42I'm shocked that they had the time and that it came out that well.
28:45I love that it's got established 2026.
28:47It's a timestamp, so over the years when people come, you always just remember that history
28:53that comes with it.
28:54The only thing I did notice from a distance, walking up, is it took a minute to actually
29:00see the Cedar Shore.
29:01Yeah, it's not easy to read.
29:04It's visible, but it's not popping.
29:06Like, if you're coming from far, you're going to be like, what does that say?
29:09They maybe could have taken the color out of the center of these to make it pop a little
29:15more.
29:16I think in terms of guest experience, though, this fits in with everything else they've
29:20been doing.
29:20So, it's really the cherry on top.
29:23Four Unique League houses, four different signs.
29:26It's the battle of the brands.
29:27It is, and we have a lot of decisions to make.
29:30Let's do it.
29:35Can we go see them?
29:36I'm so excited to see the other lake houses.
29:38We've been hearing very detailed feedback from the judges.
29:41And you start to create this vision in your mind.
29:44And I'm just looking forward to actually seeing it for ourselves.
29:48Well, as the teams tour each other's lake houses, we've had a tough decision to make.
29:53Four very different designs.
29:55Four very different teams.
29:57Some incredible execution and quality of work.
30:00And we need to find out who's taking home a hundred thousand bucks.
30:03So, let's figure it out.
30:05Tatiana and Thomas started really strong.
30:07They wanted it out of the gate.
30:09The crack the code challenge.
30:10Oh, we did it!
30:11First place!
30:12Land and lake challenge.
30:14Oh my gosh, you guys.
30:15Okay.
30:15Wow.
30:17So pretty!
30:19Tatiana has been, from day one, the guest experience expert.
30:24This island is massive.
30:26Two.
30:26Beautiful.
30:27Wow.
30:29It's the same logo.
30:30From outside.
30:31Stop it, Tatiana.
30:34And Thomas has consistently displayed.
30:36He's got the best carpentry skills.
30:38The trusses.
30:39That's amazing.
30:40Just because you've got great carpentry skills and you understand the guest experience,
30:44doesn't mean you always have the best result.
30:47Because they struggled to get some wins.
30:49These are infamous cowbells.
30:51Yeah.
30:51Think about the cowbell wall.
30:52That was a miss.
30:54I like them.
30:55They are very hands-on.
30:58They want to do everything custom themselves.
31:00I love that about them.
31:01No matter which room you walk into, the quality of their work is top notch.
31:07Wow.
31:08Did they have the same budget we did?
31:09Listen.
31:09I think they've consistently been at the top of the pack.
31:12I see why they won the living room.
31:15Well, they shared the work.
31:17They've got a lot of skills.
31:19They brought a lot to the table.
31:20But is that enough to win the entire thing?
31:24How about Marcy and Melissa?
31:26How about Marcy and Melissa?
31:26From the moment you arrive at their lake house, you feel comfortable.
31:30Mm-hmm.
31:30It's cozy.
31:33I'm so sweet.
31:35This is the definition of, like, comfort.
31:38This is incredible.
31:39Oh, look at this.
31:40They started really strong.
31:42Mm-hmm.
31:42They won the primary bedroom.
31:45It makes you exhale instantly.
31:49Wow.
31:49Looks really nice.
31:50Oh, my goodness.
31:51And they nailed it.
31:52Yeah.
31:53This is so classy.
31:54And here's where they shine.
31:56You throw them anything, and they execute with excellence.
32:00Yeah.
32:01The design detour has been their strength.
32:03Look at the bows, you guys.
32:05A little detour.
32:05That's so sweet.
32:07That was the design detour, right?
32:09Yeah.
32:09The only thing I'd say on the guest bedrooms, we didn't see a lot of custom work done in there.
32:13I love it.
32:14Oh, yeah.
32:15The curtains on the back wall.
32:16Oh.
32:16I do want to know what's behind it.
32:18They had a very clear vision from day one.
32:20If I had to describe the design in two words, it would be soft and subtle.
32:24That's three words.
32:26Soft.
32:26Subtle.
32:27That's better.
32:28It feels really big in here.
32:29I love the colored cabinets.
32:31Their banquette wall, it was a risk, but it paid off.
32:34I was not expecting that kitchen layout.
32:37I cannot believe that they came up with this.
32:40I can't believe this is the same place.
32:42It's so great.
32:44Marcy is a very strong designer.
32:47Mm-hmm.
32:47She is brilliant.
32:49Yeah.
32:50There is so much storage in here.
32:52Yeah.
32:52And they started taking notes on guest experience and showing us that they're aware of the guest
32:58experience.
32:58The basket wall, guys.
33:01I love it.
33:03Melissa's the one whose skills, I think, have evolved.
33:06Yeah.
33:06You know, I think we saw a couple hiccups with wallpaper and edges at the beginning.
33:12She started cleaning those up as she went along.
33:15And then she got even better for the bench in the front entry.
33:19And she absolutely knocked it out of the park with the fireplace.
33:22She custom-made all of this, right?
33:25Yeah.
33:25Wow.
33:25Good job.
33:27Shalon and Liz.
33:29Right out of the gate with the primary bedroom, I felt like the actual bedroom itself didn't
33:34hit the mark.
33:34But the bathroom, that was the first sneak peek at what they were capable of.
33:40Yeah.
33:40This is so cute.
33:42Wow.
33:42I like the tile.
33:43Shalon, she's got incredible vision.
33:45She definitely flexed the color and the Bahamian vibe.
33:49I think there's some areas of going a little too far.
33:52Their kitchen.
33:53Whoa.
33:54It's so pretty.
33:55Oh, I love this color.
33:56Oh, my goodness.
33:57Oh, my God.
33:58Wow.
33:58There were some quality issues, but boy, is it interesting and energetic.
34:03The hints of bamboo.
34:04Yeah.
34:05I think were a nice touch, but then it was like, oh, that's more than a hint.
34:08We've gone a little too far.
34:09The coconut.
34:10The coconut wall.
34:11Like, how good do you have to be to go this bold and have it work?
34:15And you talk about a theme can be going too far.
34:18That front entry, that is where the theme going far was just right.
34:24That's the best front entry we've ever seen.
34:26Wow.
34:26This is next level.
34:29This is so cool.
34:31I want to get wild in here, you guys.
34:33Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow.
34:34My kids would love it in here.
34:35Seriously.
34:36Love it.
34:37Then they won the guest bedroom challenge.
34:40Back to back ways.
34:41Back to back.
34:42And this was where they went from underdog to the ones to watch out for.
34:47Liz really finding different ways to express her talent, whether it's through the LED signs
34:53or the incredible mural work she did.
34:56Liz is incredibly talented, and I think she showed us that.
34:59Everyone's faces are so different, but it just suits every house so well.
35:03It's that whole Junkanoo vibe.
35:05It's fun.
35:06It's color.
35:07It's music.
35:08It's loud.
35:09You know, it invites people in.
35:10You know that's where the party's gonna happen.
35:12But is their design too niche?
35:15The Flamengo theme is living large in here.
35:18They went for it, and going for it in the short-term vacation space is always a win.
35:24Taylor and Meredad.
35:26Let's just say that Meredad started this competition going in circles.
35:30Turn it around!
35:32Bro, what?
35:33We did.
35:35Oh my goodness.
35:38Their primary bedroom and bathroom was impressive.
35:41A lot of custom pieces.
35:43There's a lot of Taylor's heritage going into this.
35:45But she didn't have the confidence to really lean into it until we got to the kitchen.
35:52Right.
35:52This is so cool.
35:54This feels huge in here.
35:55Look at this.
35:56This was the first time we really saw them step it up, and it blew our socks off.
36:02Look at this curved counter.
36:04It feels so tranquil.
36:07Yeah.
36:08It does.
36:09It's very calm.
36:11It's very simple and serene, but beautiful at the same time.
36:15Taylor's design is simplicity.
36:18The view.
36:19That's a $100,000 view right there.
36:21They want all the main spaces.
36:23Kitchen, living room, dining area, deck.
36:27Like the whole heart of the home, they took it.
36:29That's a power move.
36:30Everything just came together at the end for them to finish super strong.
36:35Some good competition.
36:37The magic about this competition is that it's not how you start, it's how you finish.
36:43Yeah.
36:43And we are judging the entirety of these lake houses now.
36:48And not only do you have to add up the wins, you got to add up the close to wins
36:52as well.
36:53Yeah.
36:53Okay.
36:54Well, this is it.
36:55This is a $100,000 decision to be made.
36:59Are we ready to make it?
37:02We're going to have to.
37:10This is the most nervous I have ever been.
37:15My heart is pounding out of my chest.
37:17It's really no tomorrow to redeem yourself.
37:21It's the end.
37:22The finality of it is really sinking in.
37:25A little nervous, a little anxious, but win or lose, I'm proud of us.
37:30I have nerves.
37:32I have butterflies.
37:34This is a huge moment.
37:36And we're about to see who's going to win this whole competition.
37:40Congratulations.
37:41Over the past eight weeks, you have transformed these lake houses.
37:47And now, with this final challenge, you've created a branding icon.
37:52So every guest knows exactly what to expect the moment they arrive at your vacation rental.
37:57Everyone did a great job, but one team did make it crystal clear that they knew exactly how to bring
38:05their lake house and their identity to life.
38:09And the winners of the branding challenge are Tatiana and Thomas.
38:19We thought you did a really great job.
38:23And now for the toughest decision we've had to make all season.
38:29You all started with the same blank drywalled shells.
38:33The same $150,000 renovation and design budgets.
38:37And the same ticking clock.
38:39Now it comes down to the main event.
38:42Oh my gosh.
38:43Shallan and Liz, the moment you stepped foot on Renovation Resort, I knew there was going to be a new
38:50energy here.
38:53You brought the bright colors to Coral Cove and took home back-to-back wins.
38:59When the pressure is on, you deliver.
39:02And you two went out on a limb.
39:05Shallan, I hate to say this, but you may need to hang up your lawyer hat because you've proven yourself
39:12to be a fierce designer.
39:15What you have been able to accomplish here absolutely blew my mind.
39:20And I don't think you could have picked a better partner who put it all out there.
39:24Liz, your passion for art and creating beautiful things has shone brightly since day one.
39:31You're as genuine as they come and it shows in everything you do.
39:35It's incredible to see what's possible when you get the perfect ingredients.
39:47Taylor and Mirdet, your West Coast minimalist vibes at Moonlight Bay, well, they won the hearts of many of our
39:53guest judges.
39:54You took home two massive wins, the kitchen and the living room.
39:59When you look back at your journey, what goes through your minds?
40:02We put our hearts into this lake house and I'm overjoyed.
40:07It's a moment I want to remember for the rest of my life.
40:09Taylor, you really made yourself vulnerable here.
40:13You showed us something new at Meridad.
