00:00Welcome to Florida.
00:02Florida life, nothing quite like it.
00:04Home to theme parks, golden tans, and 400,000 Brits.
00:08I absolutely love it here.
00:10Who've made the Sunshine State their new home.
00:13This is what sold me. Yeah.
00:15Like, because it's stunning.
00:16Who wouldn't want to live here like this?
00:18They've swapped drizzly winters and gas bills for new careers
00:22and seemingly endless fun in the sun.
00:24Cheers, Biggers!
00:26It's our little piece of paradise.
00:28Get it right and life in Florida can be like a dream come true.
00:32Every evening do this with your glass of wine.
00:35But getting here and staying here takes hard work.
00:38I do pinch myself every day.
00:41Grit. We just lost the starboard motor.
00:44And determination. Good job. Well done.
00:46These are the Brits who've made their own Escape to Florida.
00:55Today on Escape to Florida, proud Scotsman Huey is at serious risk of upstaging the bride.
01:02There's nothing worn under the coat.
01:04When he officiates at a vow renewal ceremony on the family ranch.
01:08That's a good scene, huh?
01:11Lester-born actor and Undertaker's wife Sarah...
01:15It's a gorgeous casket that is.
01:16...gets stage fright as she prepares her performing arts school for an important charity gig.
01:22I'm a bit stressed. I'm a bit stressed.
01:24Bar building grandfather Gary downs tools to be a tour guide.
01:29Let's go see some dolphins!
01:31But Florida's most famous sea creatures aren't playing ball.
01:36We've been on the boat for about 20 minutes now. No dolphins yet.
01:40I need my money back if I don't see the dolphins.
01:51Horses are big business in Florida.
01:54Year-round sun and state tax breaks means it's a great place to open the stables.
01:59And that's exactly what Laura and her parents Diane and Huey did near the town of Groveland
02:04after emigrating from Scotland 20 years ago.
02:08We didn't have the stables to start with. The horses were turned out around the house.
02:14You were sitting drinking your coffee in the morning over here.
02:18And you're taking a sip of the coffee and you look and the horse is right up at the window.
02:25It's just grew arms and legs since then.
02:29The stables are now home to 26 horses.
02:31Some of them rescues, which Laura rehabilitates and trains.
02:36That's it. All done.
02:39As well as their stables, their 65-acre ranch includes a tiki hut they rent out for parties
02:45and a separate wedding venue.
02:48This is the land of opportunity.
02:50If you can work for yourself, you can be on your own property and working with your family,
02:56the people you know, you love and you trust.
02:58It's a win-win situation.
03:01It's yet another hot Florida summer's day.
03:04And the family are busy preparing for the latest event at their wedding venue.
03:08So we're setting up today for a vow renewal that is happening tomorrow.
03:13Oh, yum, yum.
03:16Not the wedding, the weeding.
03:19Laura and her parents have held 15 wedding events of up to 280 people at their property.
03:25The receptions are usually held in a marquee, but tomorrow is a smaller affair on the venue's Tuscan patio.
03:33The patio is fabulous for an intimate wedding.
03:37It's a lovely setting.
03:39You're undercover.
03:40You're out of the sunshine.
03:41It is too, too hot to be out in the elements of this heat.
03:47I mean, it's not like Scotland.
03:48You've got the rain, the wind, you've got the snow, and that's just on a Thursday.
03:55Laura's already prepping tomorrow's reception dinner, using a larder containing the crown jewels of great British cuisine.
04:03So not just a regular pantry, it is literally like a walk-in wardrobe.
04:09We do like some of the staples from back home, definitely.
04:12Bovril Bistow, you've got Worcester sauce, you've got HP sauce.
04:16There are just certain things in life you can't live without.
04:19There's usually some Heinz beans, but they're obviously gone.
04:24Huey's obviously been at them.
04:26They've always used caterers in the past, but this is a smaller event,
04:30and it's the first time Laura has taken on all the cooking herself.
04:35The main course is beef bourguignon or chicken florentine.
04:39Both of them need to be prepped, marinated and left overnight.
04:44Laura is a great cook.
04:45I've got the enviable task of being the taster.
04:51I do enjoy cooking.
04:53I don't enjoy cooking under stress.
04:55This is a three course plated meal for 30 people.
04:59I could burn it, you know.
05:01I've got 30 times the risk.
05:05Mum Diane is working to a tighter deadline,
05:08as another couple's coming to view the estate in just a few hours,
05:12as a potential venue for their own wedding,
05:14and she wants to show it off at its very best.
05:18Cloths will need to come back off to be ironed,
05:20but I just want to cover the tables just now and put out one place setting
05:24so that they can see an idea of what it's going to look like.
05:27Time is of the essence.
05:29But the muggy conditions mean her efforts are coming unstuck.
05:34Heat index, say, 108 to 110 today.
05:37It's so hot that the decorations are starting to fall off.
05:42We use a special decor tape.
05:45It's exceptionally sticky, but because of the heat,
05:48literally that tape is melting.
05:49Oh, the panic sets in.
05:53It does.
05:54The panic sets in, but what can you do?
05:57We'll just put them up, and hopefully they'll stay up.
06:00If they don't stay up, we'll just need to put them back up tomorrow.
06:1130 miles east of sweltering groveland,
06:15Orlando is a tourist hotspot with a booming entertainment industry.
06:19That offers plenty of opportunities for talented Brits.
06:23But that's not what drew Lester-born actor and singer Sarah here in 2001.
06:29What brought me to Florida was a man.
06:32Mr. Doug Dobbs, my husband.
06:35I met Doug in a show in Hastings.
06:38He walked into the dressing room, and I can honestly say it was like,
06:42poof, instantly fell in love with him.
06:45He was a ballet dancer.
06:47He'd been in TV shows, commercials, and a singer.
06:49So we had a lot in common.
06:51It was quite a few hours later, and after quite a few drinks,
06:54that I found out that he actually owned a funeral home.
07:05Of all the dreams that I had growing up, I never dreamed,
07:09I want to marry a mortician.
07:12Never!
07:13It's not very sexy, is it?
07:16It's a gorgeous casket that is.
07:18Next year, this would be my 50th year in the funeral business.
07:23I got into it really young.
07:25I never fit the persona.
07:28How's that look?
07:30Doug's no regular undertaker, oh no,
07:33because at night he swaps his funeral suit for a pair of blue suede shoes
07:37or a glittering jumpsuit in his Elvis or Neil Diamond tribute acts.
07:42Sometimes he takes little breaks from the funeral home,
07:44and he will go on tour, and he's also ordained,
07:46so he can actually marry people as Elvis as well.
07:51Sarah left London's West End and a job as a TV presenter,
07:55and followed her heart to Orlando,
07:57where she began forging a career in show business,
08:00on stage and screen, and in the big theme parks.
08:03It was a big gamble, it was a risk.
08:05But here I am, 24 years later.
08:08Oh, it's a bit lopsided.
08:12I still do voiceovers, commercials,
08:15two to three plays or musicals a year.
08:18I'm also a host of a shopping channel,
08:21and occasionally I work in a funeral home
08:23and help out with dead people,
08:26so that is something I definitely didn't do in England.
08:29Oh, I like the rose gold.
08:31So I want mine to be real good.
08:34With vines, the diamond.
08:35I can have one ordered and sent to the house if you like.
08:40Barts away from the funeral parlour,
08:42Sarah's main job these days is running a performing arts school.
08:46Hi, guys! Come on in!
08:48Hi, Libra! Hi, Farco!
08:51From the upstairs of her home.
08:54Hi, Molly. Come on in!
08:57It's zip, zap, zop.
08:58If you get it wrong, then you're out.
09:00Everybody go...
09:01Zip, zap, zop.
09:03I coach young, professional children and adults.
09:08Zip, zap, zop. Zip.
09:10Zip, zap, zop.
09:12Zip, zap, zop.
09:14Voice coaching, acting coaching, getting an agent,
09:18just nurturing to help them be successful.
09:21Two toads, totally tired, trying to trot to Teesbury,
09:28which is a place in England.
09:29Let's be British, like Mary Poppins.
09:32Two toads, totally tired, trying to trot to Teesbury.
09:36Faster!
09:37This morning is the last group rehearsal
09:40for a very special charity show
09:42that they will be performing later tonight.
09:44I am organising a cabaret.
09:48I'm doing it to raise money for families
09:50dealing with pediatric cancer.
09:53It's curtain up at 7.30,
09:56and Sarah still needs to perfect each student's individual act.
10:00Third group!
10:01Students are really excited,
10:03but I am concerned because we don't have the luxury of time.
10:06You know how much pressure we've got on to get rehearsals done?
10:10Yeah!
10:11But you know what?
10:12The most important thing is you guys have a fabulous time.
10:15This event, this gives me a lot of stress,
10:17but it's all going to be worth it
10:18if we can make some good money for the charity.
10:20So, yeah, no pressure.
10:35Conveniently placed just 30 minutes from Orlando,
10:39the booming satellite town of Davenport
10:41has become a worldwide hotspot for sun-loving Brits.
10:45Thank you, ma'am.
10:46You're welcome.
10:48And Yorkshire couple Gary and Maria
10:50are midway through fixing up a bar they're managing
10:52to quench the thirst of the town's new inhabitants.
10:56Taps and Corks is our new venture.
10:59It's a big bar restaurant, 4,500 square feet.
11:01We've got that butcher's block to do today.
11:04There's a lot of new builds in this area,
11:06so it's got every potential to make a great success.
11:10We're going to make it an American sports bar,
11:12burgers, wings, NFL games,
11:14of course premiership and championship games as well.
11:16For us Hull City fans, yeah, you've got to watch Hull City.
11:20Gary and Maria first came to Florida on holiday from Hull
11:23as a young couple in the early 90s.
11:26We met at the bar in town
11:28and he asked me if I'd like to dance.
11:30The rest is history, isn't it?
11:31Yeah, here we are.
11:32Married 32 but been together 37 years.
11:35Years.
11:36That's why I went grey early on.
11:40Being a long slog.
11:44In 2007, they made the move to the Sunshine State for good
11:47with their young daughters, Rhea, 12, and Dorothy,
11:50who was just turning six.
11:53It's about having a better life for the girls.
11:55It did take a bit of persuading there.
11:57Yeah, she got me drunk on absinthe
11:59and was looking at how to do in Florida.
12:01And the next morning when I woke up,
12:02I had an email from a realtor.
12:04So off we went on our little travels.
12:08This is all prepped now, ready for its sort of lacquer.
12:12Their daughters are both now married and live locally.
12:16Rhea and Darcy have recently made Gary and Maria grandparents
12:19for the third and fourth time within just days of one another.
12:23I love our grandkids, love them.
12:26Family is everything to us.
12:29This is the pool room.
12:30Looking pretty good in here.
12:32It is.
12:33Gary's had to be a jack of all trades to provide for his family.
12:37Back in the UK, I used to do a bit of pipe fitting.
12:39So I thought this was a good design.
12:41A bit industrial look.
12:42And the couple have been willing to try their hand at almost anything in Florida
12:46in search of their American dream.
12:49Including cleaning, property management and pool maintenance.
12:53We've all done things what we didn't expect to do over here.
12:55But you just get stuck in and do it, don't you?
12:57Absolutely, yeah.
12:58The benefits are absolutely well worth it.
13:01This is my kitchen.
13:03This is where all the magic happens.
13:07Maria will be running the bar's food when it eventually opens.
13:11When it gets busy, it's going to be hustle and bustle.
13:14It's going to be really hot.
13:15But that's just because I'm hot stuff.
13:18Maria works two jobs and will be bringing her six years' experience
13:22at the nearby Best of British pub to this new bar.
13:27I'm here most days.
13:28I work at the Best of British most evenings.
13:31She's superwoman.
13:33I'm going to try and keep both jobs going.
13:35Just because I really love it there.
13:37You have such a good banter.
13:38Gary's also got a side hustle.
13:41Too small for my gorilla hands.
13:43I don't want to spoil my manicure.
13:46I'm a tour guide as well.
13:48I'm doing a couple of tours a week.
13:50Clearwater Beach, NASA Space Centre,
13:52Crystal River Swim with the Manatees.
13:54Tomorrow, Gary hangs up his tool belt and puts on his tour guide hat
13:58to lead a dolphin-spotting boat trip off the Gulf Coast.
14:02In Florida, hard work pays off, so it's important not only for ourselves,
14:07but for the future of the grandkids and the kids.
14:09You've got to make that buck.
14:11Never rest.
14:12LAUGHTER
14:19An hour north in Groveland, Laura and her parents are still battling Florida's summer heat and humidity
14:26as they continue preparations for tomorrow's wedding vow renewal event.
14:31That is very hot.
14:32If you take a look up, you'll see that the heat is bringing all the decor down.
14:37The family are keen to grow the wedding side of their business.
14:41Hi.
14:42Hi. How are you?
14:43I am good.
14:44Welcome to Southern Belle.
14:46So, despite the sweltering conditions,
14:49Mum Diane is showing the venue to more prospective clients.
14:54This is the pavilion, the altar area.
14:58Sorry it's not dressed, but it gives you an idea.
15:01Laura can personally vouch for the estate as a setting to tie the knot.
15:06The wedding venue was born out of my own marriage, my own ceremony to Freddie.
15:12Laura's marriage to husband Freddie was the first to be held here seven years ago.
15:18This is the area where you would be married.
15:20You can choose anywhere on the estate, but this is the most popular place.
15:25The backdrop is...
15:26Yes.
15:27Yeah.
15:27Well, we got married under the oak tree.
15:30My husband is over here painting and getting the place ready as well.
15:34Freddie runs his own painting company, but pitches him at Laura's family business whenever he can.
15:40He's so nice.
15:41See?
15:43Remind you of our wedding.
15:45Huh?
15:45Remind you of us.
15:47Just getting ready for it kind of reminds you, you know?
15:51Oh, look at that.
15:52That's very Cinderella.
15:53It doesn't just bring back memories, but it brings a little tear to my eye as well.
15:59I mean, I should feel like a princess, right?
16:01Yes.
16:03You know, every time I do this, it's like I'm setting up for my own wedding.
16:10This is the Tuscan patio.
16:12Today, tablecloths or nothing's been ironed yet.
16:14I just wanted to show you a little bit of how it's going to look.
16:19It's already gorgeous.
16:21Yeah.
16:21It's clean, classy.
16:22I love it.
16:23Yeah.
16:24No.
16:25The couple really like it, I think.
16:26To create something that somebody wants, is it great?
16:31It's a wonderful feeling.
16:33It looks like they've secured another booking for the wedding venue.
16:37I loved it.
16:38It has everything I feel like I could hope for.
16:42I'm going to start crying.
16:44You're cute.
16:45You're cute.
16:47Now Diane can return to getting everything ready for tomorrow's ceremony.
16:51A wedding vow renewal for Noelle, who works at the stables.
16:55The event we are having is my 10-year wedding vow renewal.
17:00I'm feeling pretty good about tomorrow.
17:03I think it's going to be exciting.
17:05Noelle does so many things for us.
17:07She just has a huge heart, and we want to give back to her.
17:11I'm making feed so I can be gone tonight, get a little rest for tomorrow,
17:17and then we'll be all set.
17:19I think it's going to be wonderful.
17:21But before the big day, there's a horse at the stable
17:25that needs both Noelle and Laura's care and attention.
17:28Angel has somehow managed to give herself a central coronary ulcer.
17:34Basically, she has a hole right in the centre of her eye,
17:37and there's treatments that need to happen today.
17:40It's not uncommon to see this type of injury.
17:45She could have poked herself in the eye with a piece of hay.
17:49As her first horse from Florida, Angel holds a very special place in Laura's heart.
17:54Angel and I have been together for 16 years.
17:57She's the reason that I get up in the morning.
18:00She is the reason we built the stables.
18:02I have a bond and a connection that I have never felt with any other horse.
18:07This is the affected eye.
18:09We are going to treat it by just pushing this ointment directly into her eye.
18:14This is an antifungal.
18:16If we didn't medicate and treat the eye,
18:19she has the potential of losing her eye completely.
18:23Laura has a busy 24 hours ahead of her.
18:26As well as Noelle's vow renewal to prepare for,
18:29Angel requires around-the-clock care.
18:32All right, she's all done. I'm going to take her halter off.
18:35There are two medications that must be administered every four hours.
18:40This is 24-7.
18:42I'm up twice during the night to be able to go and do this,
18:45but it's imperative for her to keep her eye.
18:56Over in Orlando...
18:58Right, come on, let's do some warm-ups.
19:00Plank?
19:00Plank? Oh, my God.
19:02Lester-born performing arts coach Sarah
19:05has also been having sleepless nights
19:07about her important charity cabaret show.
19:10So she's holding last-minute rehearsals
19:13to make sure every student is on point.
19:17We didn't used to do that in the old days.
19:19I was a dancer at Blackpool.
19:21All the students, they're all doing like an individual performance.
19:24Either song, monologue, stand-up, comedy.
19:27We also have Bella that's going to be dancing.
19:29Oh, Bella! You did awesome!
19:31I can tell you really worked hard on that.
19:34Yeah.
19:34You know what I'm going to say to you, don't you?
19:36Really tell that story, so follow your face through to the body.
19:40Okay?
19:41Molly, it's her first ever monologue in front of people,
19:45and I really want to give her that extra bit of love and encouragement.
19:49I know you're nervous.
19:50Yeah.
19:51But I think it's going to do you so good.
19:53I can't believe my mom just called me a little dramatic.
19:57A little?
19:57Being an actor, and I was an actor as a kid,
19:59I couldn't have imagined the joy that you would get from coaching.
20:04Maybe I'm a little dramatic, but drama makes life interesting.
20:07But I get so much fulfillment.
20:10Go really dramatic, because that's funny.
20:12Yeah, and the face, see? That's it.
20:15That's exactly what we want.
20:16When you're a mom, you're proud of your kids.
20:18I have 70 of them, so it's like a peacock moment all the time.
20:22I'm too busy with all my talented students.
20:26Brats.
20:27Callie.
20:28She's an absolute pro.
20:30Great job, Callie.
20:31Okay, a couple of things.
20:32Go stronger British for me.
20:34Don't forget to see that.
20:35Ooh, I've not got time for all my talented students.
20:40Sarah also works as a dialect coach at Orlando's theme parks,
20:44teaching British accents to their performers.
20:47And she's given her final student, Addy, the challenge
20:50of mastering her own East Midlands accent for tonight's show.
20:55I've written you this little monologue with some, like,
20:57East Midlands sayings.
20:59That's good, right?
21:00Yeah.
21:01Yeah.
21:02But Sarah's only got this one rehearsal to prepare her.
21:05A-up.
21:06That is like, oh, how are you, basically.
21:09A-up?
21:09Yes.
21:10Yes, yes, yes.
21:10A-up.
21:11You're a bit mardy, aren't you?
21:13Mardy.
21:14Oh, you're a bit mardy, aren't you?
21:17I'm stressed.
21:19Oh, I am stressed, yeah.
21:21But Sarah, as a teacher, she's really, really great.
21:23You don't care.
21:24It's all right.
21:25I get it.
21:25I get it.
21:26I get it.
21:27Okay.
21:28You don't care.
21:28It's all right.
21:29It's all right.
21:30I get it.
21:30Yes, I think a ferret.
21:32Ferret?
21:34I don't think I've ever met somebody who cares so much,
21:37like, about her students.
21:38Tra, everyone!
21:40Tra!
21:41Okay.
21:41Tra, everyone!
21:42Tra!
21:42Tra!
21:43Tra!
21:45See ya!
21:47Addy, might not be perfect.
21:48I think it will definitely be perfect enough for American ears,
21:51and let's just hope they actually understand some of the words
21:53that I put in.
21:54If you didn't think us British people were crazy enough already,
21:57now you really do, right?
21:58Well, yeah.
21:59It's gonna be awesome.
21:59Okay.
22:01Rehearsals may be over, but Sarah's work is far from done,
22:05because tonight's show isn't being held at a theatre,
22:09she's putting it on in her own living room.
22:12We are turning this house into a New York-style cabaret venue.
22:17This part is going to be the stage,
22:19and then we've gotta fit in 60 chairs,
22:22and I'm just hoping they can fit in.
22:25But we've got to.
22:26I've sold 60 tickets, so somehow I'm gonna have to.
22:28We're adding the sound, the lights.
22:31It's a lot of work to be done.
22:33I'm a bit stressed.
22:34I'm a bit stressed.
22:35Yeah.
22:48Over on Florida's Gulf Coast,
22:50Gary has travelled two hours west from his bar in Davenport
22:54to earn a little extra cash as a tour guide
22:57on a dolphin-spotting boat trip.
23:00Hi, guys.
23:01Welcome aboard, Gary.
23:02Good to see you, mate. How are you?
23:04How are you doing?
23:05Welcome aboard.
23:06Scott, how are you doing?
23:07Good to see you.
23:08I'm here today to help Scott and Miles on the Sea Screamer.
23:12We're gonna cruise through Clearwater Harbour,
23:14then we'll head out into the Gulf, find the dolphins.
23:17Hopefully they want to play.
23:19Scott and Miles' co-skipper, the Sea Screamer.
23:22At 73-foot long and with two twin turbocharged engines,
23:27it's the biggest speed boat in the world.
23:30Biggest, please?
23:32Appreciate it, sir.
23:33Some people said, you know, you're a bit over here.
23:36What got you into this?
23:37How are you guys doing today?
23:38Good?
23:38Good.
23:39So, anyway, you like?
23:41I always say I love it.
23:42I just love talking to people.
23:44I've always loved talking to people.
23:47All right, guys, welcome to the Sea Screamer.
23:51When we do these tours, I get on the mic.
23:53Give them a little bit to expect.
23:55Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
23:56So, during the trip, no standing on the seats or benches.
23:59We want you to enjoy the dolphins, not actually swim with them.
24:02So, just keep yourself safe, guys.
24:04When I get older, that mic is mine.
24:06All right, guys, let's go see some dolphins.
24:14Gary's ability to spot dolphins will be crucial on this trip,
24:18as once they are located, Scott and Miles will manoeuvre the boat
24:22into a position to tempt them to come and play in its wake.
24:26The tour's just about an hour, you know, in that time.
24:29We have to see quite a few dolphins.
24:31If he doesn't catch sight of a dolphin,
24:34not only will the passengers go home disappointed,
24:37but it could also hit Gary's wallet.
24:40You know what dolphins mean, don't you? Tips.
24:43Standard 15% to 20% tips are expected
24:46in Florida's hospitality industry
24:48and are hugely important to Gary and his wife, Maria.
24:52We've got a set pair, but we also rely on tips.
24:55It's just part of how we make a living out here.
24:58I've got four grandchildren now, so it's going to be expensive.
25:02Ten minutes, no dolphins yet.
25:04The dolphins are wild animals.
25:06Sometimes they want to play.
25:08Sometimes they're busy feeding and they don't want to play.
25:11We just have to take our chances with Mother Nature.
25:13Been about just over 20 minutes now.
25:16And, uh, still, uh, still nothing.
25:19Without a dorsal fin in sight,
25:22the passengers are starting to get restless.
25:25I'm sorry. I do apologise.
25:28I'm not sure we're going to see them, but let's hope we do.
25:31I need my money back if I don't see them going to pass.
25:34You can't make them come to the service, you know.
25:37But, uh, it's a beautiful day.
25:39I hope we'll come out and see the sun, you know.
25:41It's...
25:42Bonfins!
25:50Over in Orlando, it's just five hours until the curtain comes up on Sarah's charity show.
25:56But her living room still needs to be transformed into a theatre for an audience of 60.
26:02This cabaret in my house.
26:04It is a bit mad.
26:06But I am blessed that I have so many people helping me today.
26:10Sarah's two stepkids from her husband Doug's previous marriage, Brittany and Brandon,
26:14are here for support.
26:16Along with Brittany's daughter, Penny.
26:18Have you come to help Grandma?
26:19Oh, my God, you're getting too heavy if you come to help Grandma.
26:22Grandma.
26:23Brandon, he usually makes orders of service at the family funeral home.
26:27Yes!
26:28Finally, finally got them done.
26:30All right, I see.
26:31Has printed theatre programmes instead.
26:34That looks gorgeous.
26:36Oh, they look great.
26:37And some of her students are lending a hand in the kitchen too.
26:40OK, who wants to do the charcuterie cups?
26:43Me!
26:44Sarah's got them making finger food that she hopes will bring in more donations at the show.
26:49My aim is to raise $3,000.
26:52Lila, the idea is to have one of these, make it really pretty, and these little cocktail sticks
26:57with stars on.
26:58Wow.
26:58That's cute.
26:59OK, sausage meat.
27:01And she's ensuring there's a very British flavour to her New York Cabaret Club menu.
27:07I've decided to make some British Scotch eggs, because I do love cooking.
27:10I make them every Easter.
27:12It's kind of a bit of a hit in the family.
27:15Oh, Doug's here!
27:16Doug's arrived straight from a funeral.
27:18Hi.
27:19Hello.
27:21We need furniture.
27:22Furniture needs to be moved.
27:23We've got the chairs, right?
27:24Can I get out of this?
27:25Yes.
27:25All right, all right, hurry up.
27:27As a singer himself in his spare time, Doug's no stranger to putting on a performance.
27:33Then we're going to have to do an angle.
27:35Then we're going to have to do an angle.
27:35Being married to a businessman who does understand the entertainment world, but then also goes
27:42off and does a nice day job is just so handy.
27:46Check.
27:46One, two.
27:46Yeah.
27:47Actually, it's not really a nice day job, is it?
27:49I don't know why I said a nice day job.
27:51Nice day job.
27:52Firing people.
27:56I'm now making the cornflake cakes.
27:58I have used the best Cadbury's chocolate that we can find in the States.
28:03It's better than American chocolate, but it doesn't taste the same as when I go back to England.
28:07It's just something about being British that you never lose.
28:10You can't take the Leicester out of me.
28:12You just can't.
28:12I'm still that down-to-earth Leicester girl.
28:14I can get golden syrup.
28:16Remember when it used to be in the tin?
28:18I loved it when it was in the tin.
28:22Sarah's student, Addy, has been practising at East Midlands Accent for her act in the show.
28:27Go on, run through it.
28:28You look a bit marty.
28:29Don't you?
28:30Don't you?
28:30Don't you?
28:31Don't you?
28:32Don't you?
28:32Don't you?
28:34Don't you?
28:35Yeah.
28:35Yeah.
28:36Mm-hmm.
28:38All right, all right, all right.
28:40What's all this going on?
28:41Oh, no!
28:42No!
28:43There we go.
28:43Yeah!
28:44Yeah!
28:44Yeah!
28:45Yeah!
28:45All right, girls, what are you doing down there?
28:47Yeah, it's the worst accent in the world.
28:49It's so embarrassing.
28:51I thought that was pretty good.
28:52No, don't feed into him.
28:54I thought it was good.
28:54It's not.
28:55It's the only one he can do.
28:57Quicker than you can say Dick Van Dyke, Doug and his friend Bruce have the stage set for
29:01the performance.
29:02Okay.
29:03You know, I think this is as good quality as a professional theatre backdrop.
29:07Some of the theatres I've worked in, trust me, it's probably better.
29:10They'll have mothballs in them.
29:12And now, with just three hours until showtime...
29:16Oh, good job, Penny!
29:19Sarah needs all hands on deck to create the auditorium.
29:23I am seriously nervous we're not going to fit 60 chairs in this house.
29:28It is intimate.
29:29Oh, my God.
29:29It is intimate.
29:30That's the word.
29:32Is that enough room?
29:32You know what?
29:33I think we're doing okay.
29:34Is this all the chairs?
29:36Yeah.
29:36I think we're going to fit them in.
29:39Why didn't I sell 70 tickets?
29:42We could fit 70 chairs in.
29:45I actually cannot believe how much we actually achieved today.
29:49They're not a bit comfy though, are they?
29:51But I am worried about a lot of things.
29:54Actually, that's not bad.
29:56This looks really good.
29:57Hopefully, the sound will sound great.
29:59The students' nerves are settled.
30:01Oh, my God.
30:03I'm a little nervous for the students, but I'm there.
30:06There's a problem.
30:06The show must go on, as we say in our business.
30:15Over in Groveland, Laura and her mum Diane are preparing for their own big gig,
30:20as they dress the pavilion where today's wedding vow renewal ceremony will be taking place.
30:27Decorations are my mum's forties.
30:29Head of decorating.
30:30That's her department.
30:34Wedding planning is a far cry from the village post office Diane and Huey left in Scotland 20 years ago.
30:41We were no stranger to hard work when we came here.
30:44I thought maybe they got a wee bit easier, but it's not.
30:47The news agents opened at 4.30 in the morning.
30:50The post office had a convenience store in it and didn't close to 10 at night.
30:54Here, we do work hard, but life is so much better.
30:58I like things to look right.
31:00You can't let anybody down.
31:02We would never, ever do anything.
31:04Half roads.
31:05It's a lot of work, but it's nice when it's all done and people's happy.
31:10Hopefully we'll be getting paid for it.
31:17It's Huey who will preside over Noelle's vow renewal in just a few hours.
31:23Hello.
31:25Do you have the ceremony written down?
31:27Yes.
31:28Can we look at it for a second?
31:29Yes, Donnelly.
31:31My dad, Huey, is the Reverend Hugh Donnelly, and he is the officiant for all of our ceremonies.
31:38Can we change that?
31:40Right, okay.
31:41For personal reasons, we cannot use the word chivalry.
31:45Huey trained as an ordained minister online.
31:48It qualifies him to officiate weddings and baptisms anywhere in the state of Florida.
31:53He decided that, you know, if we're going to do this, we're going to do it right.
31:59Huey!
32:01It's only a change of a word, but Huey gets a bit uptight.
32:05And a last minute change is going to freak him a little bit.
32:10I want to change one line, if that's okay.
32:13What is that line?
32:13The chivalry's not dead.
32:15And add instead, Noelle and Al would like to continue as they began with an exchange of favours.
32:22You need to write that down for me.
32:23I will.
32:29Write it slowly, because I can't read fast.
32:31Okay.
32:32I'll do what I can.
32:34Right.
32:34Is that the change?
32:35Yes.
32:37All right, ladies.
32:38I'm headed to the barn.
32:39You do know when you leave, he's going to call you bride-seller.
32:42Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
32:48With Huey left to relearn his lines, Laura joins Noelle in applying her horse, Angel's latest dose of eye ointment.
32:56Here we go.
32:57Last one.
32:58A little while.
33:00Laura administered two treatments overnight.
33:03Well done, sweetenies.
33:04but her sleep sacrifice ahead of such a busy day has helped Angel on the road
33:10to recovery and the I was like the shape of a cauliflower she's got rid of a
33:15lot of that so we're certainly headed in the right direction we will continue
33:21with this treatment and hopefully when the vet comes back next we will get the
33:26old clear all right while Noelle heads off to get ready for her big day Florida's
33:35summer storms black clouds right above us could be bad to ruin Laura and her
33:41parents best-laid plans say that's another thing they'll need to come in
33:45because they will get wasted with it in yeah they need to protect as many
33:49decorations as they can from the passing storm if Noelle's varianule is not to
33:55become a washout we're trying to build the wedding venue business we can't
33:59afford to screw up somebody's big day and they've been working the last two
34:03weeks trying to prepare for this one very worried very worried because if it
34:08rains heavy all that work could be ruined
34:27in Orlando the stage is set for Sarah's charity cabaret show we have rehearsed so
34:34hard for this right you know what you're doing just own it you are all stars it's
34:41happening it's happening it's gonna get the big bowl salad she's under my secret

35:32my job is done now it's down to the students to perform to the best of their
35:36ability I'm anxious and nervous but I think that is gonna kill it I know they
