00:00Good morning again, guys. Before we get to the holiday weekend, we do have a little round of severe weather
00:05in the forecast for the eastern Rockies through the day today. Heavy rain, though, already falling across Oklahoma down into
00:11Texas. That will be where we could see some isolated severe storms, too, and then it starts to get unsettled
00:15a little farther northeast you go, up through West Virginia into Virginia, and then much cooler by about 20 degrees,
00:2120 to almost 30 degrees cooler in the northeast than it was yesterday. That's a look at the weather across
00:25the country. We'll get to your local forecast in the next 30 seconds.
00:28I'm calling in for Al this morning. Everything you need to know about the big holiday weekend.
00:33Well, if you live in the eastern half of the country, look away. This is not the forecast you want
00:37for Memorial Day weekend. We've got just an active storm track, moisture just being pulled in from the south. We're
00:43going to see heavy rain along the Gulf Coast and very unsettled weather back through the Great Lakes, the Ohio
00:48and Tennessee River Valleys, and extending up into the northeast.
00:52Friday, tomorrow is probably the best day of the weekend. It will just be kind of cloudy in the northeast,
00:57but you go down into the Ohio and Tennessee River Valleys, look at all this heavy rain.
01:01If you're traveling on the road, 64, 40, we are looking for just really heavy rain. Not a whole lot
01:06of severe storms, but still, you get the heavy rain, you get the downpours,
01:10and that could lead to flight delays from Nashville over into Atlanta, all along the Gulf Coast and Houston and
01:16New Orleans. Then on Saturday, again, the west coast, enjoy it. Lots of sunshine, temperatures nice and warm.
01:21But here's that heavier rain moving into the northeast. Not just the rain, but gusty winds as well. Colder temperatures
01:27only in the 50s across the northeast.
01:29You go into the southeast, it's warmer, but it's that heavy, tropical, humid kind of rain. Heavier downpours on Sunday
01:35down through Houston into Louisiana.
01:37And then on Memorial Day itself, we're still looking for spotty showers across the northeast and still dealing with that
01:43heavy rain all along the Gulf Coast.
01:45So it's kind of a washout for half of us.
01:47All right. We'll come back to you in just a bit, Dylan. Thank you.
01:49Dylan, in for Al this morning. Good morning.
01:50Good morning again, guys. You step outside, you'll notice the temperature drop out there for sure.
01:55We're dropping temperatures by about 30 degrees in the northeast. It's only 65 for a high today in New York,
02:0166 in Boston, 66 in D.C., which is about 11 degrees below average.
02:05Raleigh, though, still in the lower 90s, still feeling that humidity.
02:08You go out into Minneapolis and into Chicago, temperatures in the mid-60s, pure South Dakota, about 59 degrees.
02:15So temperatures certainly below average. They'll modify a bit as we go through the weekend.
02:19Chicago gets up to the 80s by the time we get into Monday.
02:22Cleveland gets back into the upper 70s. Again, kind of unsettled, though.
02:26We are going to see a lot of rain, even though we're looking for a high of about 75 on
02:30Memorial Day in New York.
02:31It comes with some clouds, some peaks of sunshine, a chance of showers, really, at any moment.
02:36And in Washington, D.C., same thing. We'll get into the upper 70s, but it's not going to be like
02:40a crystal clear sunny day.
02:42Today, though, we do have some of that heavier rain in the forecast for the southern plains down along the
02:46Gulf Coast.
02:46Flooding is a possibility with those heavier downpours.
02:48And then this stretches up into Virginia and West Virginia, too, where we could see some pockets of heavier rain.
02:54That's a look at the weather across the country. Now here's a peek out your window.
02:58Get a check from Dylan.
02:59Good morning, guys. All right, let's see what's going on in Indianapolis, where we do have a little bit of
03:04sunshine making its way through.
03:05Temperatures a little bit cooler than average, but still not too bad today.
03:09We are going to see a good amount of rain move through parts of the Mid-Atlantic, also down along
03:13the Gulf Coast.
03:14Look at Corpus Christi. You just had a real heavy line of rain move through, lots of cloud-to-ground
03:18lightning.
03:19This stalled front is going to be the reason we see a good chance of rain going through the holiday
03:24weekend.
03:24It just meanders around, lifts and settles, and we're going to see rain kind of develop along it as waves
03:30of low pressure do start to develop.
03:32So as we go into tomorrow, heavier rain up across Ohio and southwestern Pennsylvania.
03:36Then as we go into Saturday, that rain moves into the northeast. Lots of heavy rain. We'll also likely see
03:42some gusty winds, too.
03:43Then as we go into Sunday, it fizzles out a bit, but still kind of cloudy with a chance of
03:47showers.
03:47But a lot of rain is expected. We could see as much as one to two inches of rain with
03:52some of the higher amounts up to around three to four inches
03:54if you get stuck in some of those heavier downpours.
03:56That's a look at the weather across the country. Now here's a peek out your window.
04:00And don't forget, you can catch us on the radio as well. Sirius XM Channel 108.
04:05Oh, gang's all here. We've got the quorum.
04:07Hi, Miss Jones.
04:08Yeah, hi.
04:08I didn't get the spring bling memo.
04:11I know. Look at these two.
04:12I'm going to the prom.
04:13We're matchy-matchy.
04:14You need a corsage.
04:16Guys, we've got to get to pop star because our last time.
04:18Greg Allman, the music of my soul.
04:20He heard.
04:21He heard, yeah.
04:22I got back to him.
04:23He cares.
04:23That's useful feedback.
04:24Yeah, yeah.
04:25Yeah, it is.
04:25Next up is Quinta.
04:27Okay.
04:28Next up is we're going to...
04:29In movie theaters this week.
04:31Okay.
04:32Next up is his motorcycle, too.
04:34That's cute.
04:34Or he could be holding a baby.
04:36Yeah, okay.
04:37He could be like rocking a baby.
04:38You got to keep shut.
04:39You're going to be okay.
04:39We'll just give it a real shot.
04:41Finally, yeah, this is the big one here, guys.
04:43We have a pop star.
04:44You know, Emily is such a doll and she used to babysit my kids when they were really little.
04:48Mommy.
04:49Are you going to offer to babysit?
04:51You should.
04:52You know I'd love to hold a baby.
04:54Yeah, or my daughter can.
04:55Full circle.
04:55I love that.
04:56Welcome to the party.
04:57A new shop.
04:58Good advice there, but let's add some nasty weather to the mix.
05:01That's going to cause some flight delays, also cause some slowdowns on the roads, too.
05:05We've got this push of moisture just streaming in from the south, and this is going to be
05:09our storm track all weekend long.
05:12So as we go into tomorrow, we are going to see some of our heaviest rain falling down through
05:16Kentucky into Tennessee, into parts of Mississippi and Alabama.
05:20We will see fairly, mostly dry conditions across the New England area into the northeast, but
05:27as the day goes on, Nashville, Atlanta, New Orleans, back into Houston, you'll likely
05:31see some airport delays.
05:33Then on Saturday, that heavier rain is going to move up into the northeast, especially through
05:37upstate New York into Pennsylvania.
05:39We're still dealing with the heavier rain down through the southeast into the Gulf Coast
05:42as well, where we do have a flood risk because all that rain is just going to keep falling
05:47over and over again.
05:47The ground is totally saturated, and that could lead to some ponding on the roads.
05:51Then on Sunday, the west coast, enjoy the nice weather.
05:55You are just beautiful all weekend long, but as we go into the Gulf Coast and look into
05:59that area, more heavy rain is in the forecast.
06:01That could lead to some more flooding.
06:03The heaviest of the rain winds down in the northeast, but still kind of cloudy and unsettled.
06:07Temperatures only in the 60s, still kind of breezy.
06:09And on Monday, if you are traveling back to where you came from, we are going to see most
06:14of our delays down through Jackson, down into New Orleans, along Route 10 there.
06:17is where we're going to have our heaviest rain.
06:20And then for airports, maybe still some delays, just low visibility across Boston, New York,
06:24down into D.C., heavier rain falling in Nashville, same along the Gulf Coast.
06:28So it's kind of an unsettled forecast for the eastern half of the country.
06:33You'll see moments of sunshine, think it's going to turn into a beautiful day, and then
06:37all of a sudden it gets cloudy and showery again.
06:38So just, I mean, not great.
06:41But then it's going to warm back up.
06:42We're going to get on the other side.
06:43Next week looks great.
06:43Yes.
06:44Right after that.
06:44I'm already planning the pool.
06:46Oh, you do love the pool.
06:49Now to the end of an era in late night.
06:51Most out of our annual physicals.
06:53So many people leave the doctor's office feeling like they forgot to ask a question or they didn't
06:57get the help they needed.
06:58So NBC News medical contributor, Dr. Kavita.
07:01All right.
07:03Coming up just ahead, my exclusive cover.
07:05We are back now with more from Craig's exclusive conversation with late show legend, David Letterman.
07:10Well, since leaving the show, he has gone down a new track as co-owner of a racing team.
07:15And Craig, you got the chance to catch up with him at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
07:19It is, Dave.
07:20David Letterman, next to comedy, that's probably his second greatest passion.
07:25Oh, my God.
07:26Loves it.
07:27And you can see it in his eyes as well.
07:28It lights up talking about it.
07:30Yeah.
07:30And trying to save lives with his health message, too, which is great.
07:33Yes.
07:34Great interview, Craig.
