00:00Despite some poor weather and a reduced budget allocation, the Tunipunapiyako Regional Corporation
00:07successfully put on its biennial sports and family day on Saturday.
00:12So how is it that the corporation has money for sports days and things of this nature?
00:17Well the thing is when we came together, it's a long vision as I said. We've had our committee,
00:24at least 12 persons events committee. We've trained them, they've gone to Cipriani, they've gone to events
00:30management classes there and I'm seeing the growth and even in the planning stages we had each team
00:37amalgamate themselves so we have less teams this time but they've all amalgamated themselves. They've
00:42had fundraisers, even events committee they've had fundraisers, karaoke, lawn sales, even bingo, we have
00:51some raffles even today so definitely they came out to make this possible so everyone bought into it
00:57and then the regular sponsors they've come on board to assist also. The chairman says the corporation
01:02has recently formed a strategic planning and implementation committee to assist in managing
01:09the corporation's constrained resources. And that committee has been really bringing forth some
01:17meaningful public-private partnerships in the area of public health. We've had a partnership coming
01:21very soon that will be announced. We have another partnership with infrastructure development and
01:29recreational spaces also. So we're doing what we have to do with public-private partnerships in that
01:33sphere to get the job done because the monies are not forthcoming as we expect and we just have to
01:38do what we have to do to get the job done. We've had several plans coming in in 2023 and
01:42they must be executed.
01:43Are these processes in line with the public procurement?
01:48Oh definitely, definitely. We have a robust team. We are, I think based on what I was advised,
01:55we are well on top of things and have scored the highest when it comes to our public procurement reports.
02:01Among the partnerships is an initiative for waste collection and disposal.
02:07We have at least 16 electoral districts and there are three days stipulated for
02:12the pickup of green waste and we are doing a partnership where that waste will now be
02:18transformed into compost and other, I don't want to say too much, I don't want to say too much,
02:25but Alderman, Councillor Laguerre, he's leading the charge on that, but that is one in particular
02:30that will cut the length of time that we'll have to travel daily to drop off that waste.
02:35Has the upkeep of public spaces programmed been bridging the gap that's in Melbourne and Black?
02:40Well, any support we get will be always welcomed. I wouldn't say it's bridging the gap because now
02:45you have at least 220 or so workers replacing 25,000 or so.
02:51And with the Eddie Hart grounds still in a state of disrepair,
02:55the event was held in Constantine Park this year. The chairman says he's keeping his fingers crossed
03:01that the government will see it fit to restore the landmark site. Renessa Cutting, TV6 News.
