00:00The West Indies are hoping to regain the lead in the five-match ODI series against New Zealand
00:05when the teams play game number three on Thursday also at the Providence Stadium.
00:09Having made just 138 in the second match, which the men in Maroon lost,
00:14coach Darren Sammy wants his batters to apply themselves better.
00:17We didn't bat as well as we should have in conditions that we're quite familiar with.
00:25So it's important for us as a batting group to be a little bit more aware of the situation
00:34and assess a little faster as to what is required on the surface and what is a good quota on
00:43that surface.
00:44The game will be played on the pitch used for the first ODI which the West Indies won.
00:49And Sammy believes the team that wins the toss is going to bowl first on that surface.
00:54We have to become a team that could set totals and also defend it.
01:01And we're working on that.
01:02We just need to apply that same mindset we have in the chase.
01:06Whether it be a turning weekend, which is what we face with now in Guyana.
01:13You know, but it's something we really got to get better at and making better decisions when the challenge comes
01:22from the bowlers.
01:23Hard-hitting batter Shimran Hetmeier is set to play in the third game for the men in Maroon.
01:28And Sammy is looking forward to good things from the Guyanese South Pole.
01:32Shimran is a unique case.
01:34You know, he's from Guyana, one of our better players of spin in the team.
01:39So it's good to have him available to us, especially at home.
01:43We all know how he plays in these conditions.
01:48So hopefully he could come and have an impact on the game and on winning for us.
01:54The remaining two matches that follow will take place at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
01:58Vinod Nowani, Chiefs Export.
