00:00:39Look, I was a bit of a misery, pedantic misery on the Dynamite review

00:00:44and think looking at gauging by social media.

00:00:47Most people really enjoyed it.

00:00:49As I said, there was some really good stuff on there.

00:00:51Just wasn't the time to do a lot of it.

00:00:54Whatever.

00:00:54However, I think AEW has largely enjoyed a tremendous year.

00:00:59There remain 18 mid-cards, which is a problem.

00:01:02But the most important stuff matters and they are making me care

00:01:06about the most important stuff in the main.

00:01:08And I believe that there are nine matches.

00:01:13Yes.

00:01:14At least three of them have been built in a way that I'm really quite

00:01:18looking forward to seeing it.

00:01:19If there haven't been all-time great stories or nothing,

00:01:22there are stakes that I'm really interested in,

00:01:25story beats that I think have been tended to very well.

00:01:28And even there's a match that has been built and it's a complete

00:01:32just do it.

00:01:33It's going to be fun mess.

00:01:35Yes.

00:01:36And yet it will almost certainly be one of the most fun matches of the year.

00:01:41Yeah, I was recording the predictions with Andy just before I came in here

00:01:46and I said as much with the regards to Stadium Stampede.

00:01:49It's just like...

00:01:49It is a mess.

00:01:50Yeah, it's not like a bloodlust, real bitter feud between 14 men.

00:02:00So just have some fun with it.

00:02:23However, I'm actually glad that they've gone this route

00:02:27because I love the match.

00:02:28I've described it.

00:02:30Well, Anarchy in the Arena, Stadium Stampede, you know,

00:02:32like tomato, tomato.

00:02:33Yes.

00:02:34It's Christmas.

00:02:35You do it every year at the same time every single year

00:02:37because, yes, it's, you know...

00:02:40Oh, God, Christmas again.

00:02:41Actually, it's good.

00:02:42It's like one of those, like,

00:02:43do we have to do it at the same time every single year?

00:02:46Isn't it a bit contrived?

00:02:47Is it an obligation?

00:02:48Yes, it is because it's the best.

00:02:52They do a dozen things in this match

00:02:55that pop your tits off, make you feel alive.

00:02:58It is the absolute most ridiculous, preposterous,

00:03:02blood-pumping, dick-hardening celebration of...

00:03:08completely brilliant, funny, violent pro-wrestling ever, so...

00:03:12And I'm actually glad, really.

00:03:14I'm having a moan about how it's a mess and it is

00:03:16and who gives a toss, really,

00:03:18because the ends almost certainly will justify the means.

00:03:21I'm actually grateful this year.

00:03:25And I think, you know,

00:03:26this maybe reflects in the product at large,

00:03:32which has been so much better received

00:03:34than at this point in 2025.

00:03:35Things were starting to click, really,

00:03:37this time last year.

00:03:38They really were.

00:03:39But, like, the beginning of 2025,

00:03:41people were not happy with 80W at all.

00:03:44I mean, that's the cope effect.

00:03:45The year prior,

00:03:48the signings of Okada, Osprey, and Money

00:03:51had been tempered by this restore-the-feeling nonsense

00:03:54and the Young Bucks heel turn

00:03:57and the New Elite and the Tony Khan bump,

00:03:59Toy Story style.

00:04:01And 2023 was a bit of a complete mess.

00:04:05Because AEW's TV hasn't been defined by this,

00:04:09right, get these 10 wrestlers

00:04:12and waste time doing tags, trios, eight-mans

00:04:16for some stakes that don't really exist,

00:04:18but it's dominating the on-screen narrative.

00:04:21Because that hasn't happened this year

00:04:23and they've just kind of went,

00:04:24you know what, this match is fun.

00:04:26We're going to do it anyway.

00:04:28Just do seven hit faces, seven heels,

00:04:31and just don't dedicate too much TV time to it

00:04:33and just do it.

00:04:34It's vastly preferable this way

00:04:36because the match is going to be just as great as always

00:04:39and the TV hasn't been kind of, like, marred.

00:04:41We assumed it was going to be

00:04:42Deathriders' Don Callis family at one point, didn't we?

00:04:46But, yeah, I was going to ask you,

00:04:48in terms of the layout of this card,

00:04:50where does Stadium Stampede go?

00:04:53So, what's the main event?

00:04:55What opens?

00:04:57Hmm.

00:04:59Well, I say this every single time.

00:05:02My attempts to manifest it into existence

00:05:05have failed dramatically.

00:05:08I'm going to do it again, right?

00:05:10I would have the four-way women's match open.

00:05:13Okay.

00:05:13Because it's getting bulls**t, this trend, right?

00:05:17Yes.

00:05:18Where they're going to hopefully avoid it to an extent

00:05:21because a four-way is all action.

00:05:24And rich history.

00:05:25And there's a rich history of it, of course.

00:05:27A four-way being all action means

00:05:29the women involved don't have to build the match,

00:05:33which has already lost the audience

00:05:35before the bell rings

00:05:37because so little TV time gets invested in it.

00:05:40And because they build it slowly,

00:05:42because every match seemingly on an AEW pay-per-view

00:05:45gets a minimum of, what, 18 minutes, it seems.

00:05:48Because they build a long match slowly

00:05:51and the fans, I know Tecla's over,

00:05:53but she's not so over that.

00:05:54An exhausted crowd, seven matches in,

00:05:58is watching a women's match

00:05:59that has not been promoted adequately

00:06:01by any stretch on TV beforehand.

00:06:04They're kind of like,

00:06:05oh, God, this one.

00:06:06Yeah, okay, we're doing it, we're doing it.

00:06:08And eventually they get into it

00:06:09through the stiff, hard-hitting, thoughtful,

00:06:12really committed work of the women involved.

00:06:14I want to avoid that all the time.

00:06:18It's always positioned in a death slot.

00:06:20It always has at least 50%

00:06:23of just really bleak silence,

00:06:25of just tired apathy.

00:06:28And it just gets depressing

00:06:29watching the women really hurt themselves

00:06:32or put their bodies on the line

00:06:34in a match that no one cares about

00:06:35until the other finish.

00:06:36Have the women's match open

00:06:39every single AEW pay-per-view.

00:06:42Because it's a cheat code, right?

00:06:44I've been saying this, right?

00:06:46Because the hot opener is so cold for a reason.

00:06:50The crowd are at the most energetic.

00:06:51They've just dispensed with the pre-show.

00:06:54They are literally in a position

00:06:57where they've just bought their ticket.

00:06:58They're hyped to go and see the show.

00:07:00They are not tired.

00:07:01They haven't seen 1,500 matches by this point.

00:07:04So they are at their most energetic,

00:07:07awake, hyped, excited,

00:07:09let's go, I'm at an AEW show.

00:07:11Every opener has like a high floor of an atmosphere

00:07:15as a result of that.

00:07:17Let the women benefit from it.

00:07:19Because if the talent's there,

00:07:21it is and it has been for years in AEW at this point.

00:07:24If you allow the women to open the show

00:07:26and they get that like automatic heat

00:07:30that an opener gets,

00:07:32then they will thus feel moreover afterwards.

00:07:35If you do this monthly,

00:07:37you might get away with under-promoting it

00:07:40to such a pathetic extent

00:07:41every single week on TV.

00:07:43And this is fairly predictable, this match.

00:07:47So if you put it later on

00:07:48and it dies a death for a couple of reasons.

00:07:50Tiredness, but also,

00:07:52I don't really need to see,

00:07:53if I'm in the arena and I'm like,

00:07:54at some point I'm going to go and get a drink

00:07:56or go to the toilet or whatever,

00:07:57I'm all right missing this match.

00:07:59No discredit to the amazing talent

00:08:01they've got in there.

00:08:01You can miss the first seven minutes

00:08:03because you know,

00:08:03you know that it ain't going to get any heat.

00:08:06Sisters of Sin are going to come in.

00:08:08Tekla's probably going to retain.

00:08:11Yeah.

00:08:11Have it open.

00:08:12I'm really hoping this opens.

00:08:14Beyond hope, beyond hope.

00:08:16As for where Stadium Stampede fits in,

00:08:19and we'll get to that match.

00:08:20Yeah.

00:08:20Because we've got some daft bollocks

00:08:24As for where Stadium Stampede goes,

00:08:27last year it was Stadium Stampede,

00:08:30a match, then the main event, right?

00:11:02for the atmosphere,

00:11:04these women variously have been involved

00:11:07in some really stiff,

00:11:08if depressingly cold matches,

00:11:12on TV and pay-per-view

00:11:14over the last however many months.

00:11:16like,

00:11:17I believe in the talent.

00:11:20I can buy the drama

00:11:22because it's just so easy

00:11:23to get fooled by

00:11:24a near fall

00:11:26because of a save situation

00:11:28and if they feel like

00:11:30they're not close enough.

00:11:31Like,

00:11:31a four-way,

00:11:32the promoters and bookers,

00:11:34they book these matches

00:11:35for that exact reason.

00:11:37Just a few more shortcuts to drama,

00:11:39a few more shortcuts to a reaction.

00:11:41So,

00:11:42I've got high hopes for it

00:11:43even if it's in a death slot.

00:11:47Let's talk about the

00:11:48AW International Championship.

00:11:50It is Kazuchika Okada

00:11:51versus Kanosuke Tekeshta,

00:11:53Jordan versus Pippin,

00:11:55in the words of Don Callis.

00:12:37can have interesting matches

00:12:39against the various members

00:12:40of the Callis family.

00:12:41Halfway reluctant

00:12:43Kyle Fletcher

00:12:44down the line

00:12:44because he likes Tekeshta

00:12:45but he'll want it.

00:12:47But, you know,

00:12:47he can,

00:12:47in that scenario

00:12:49when, you know,

00:12:50Fletcher returns from injury,

00:12:51he can return

00:12:53at which point

00:12:54hopefully Tekeshta

00:12:55is still holding that title

00:14:51actually.

00:14:55As for the quality

00:14:56of the match,

00:14:57depends which Akata

00:14:58turns up.

00:14:59That and even

00:15:01pay-per-view Akata

00:15:02tends to try harder

00:15:05I was mildly let down

00:15:07by their match

00:18:38throughout the body

00:18:42your cynical analyst head

00:18:44and then just lose

00:18:45yourself into the action

00:18:47if this match

00:18:47really,

00:18:48really hits.

00:18:48And they've had a

00:18:49really good,

00:18:50they've had a

00:18:51disappointingly

00:18:52just good

00:18:53if a bit tonally
