Three International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) students were killed after the car they were travelling in crashed into the rear of a moving trailer along the Karak Highway near Gombak early Friday (May 22) morning.

Another passenger was seriously injured and is receiving treatment at Selayang Hospital.

00:00The identities of the three men killed in a crash at kilometre 34 of the Karak Highway near Kampung Sungai
00:08Chinchin, Gombak,
00:09early Friday morning have been confirmed as students of the International Islamic University Malaysia, IIUM.
00:18The deceased were Adli Hakim Akbardin, 24, Amir Ashraf Khairul Anwar, 24, and Afiq Jamal Abdul Nasir, 26.
00:26Another victim, Athira Najwa Mohamad Tajul Ashikin, 27, was seriously injured and is receiving treatment at Selayang Hospital.
00:36In the 2.15am incident, the four friends were travelling in a Volkswagen Golf from Genting Highlands towards the IIUM
00:45campus in Gombak.
00:46Gombak OCPD Senior Assistant Commissioner Noor Arifin Mohamad Nasir said initial investigations found that the vehicle lost control before crashing
00:58into the rear of a moving trailer.
01:00He said the driver and two passengers were confirmed dead at the scene by an assistant medical officer from Selayang
01:07Hospital,
01:08while the fourth victim was seriously injured and rushed to the same hospital.
01:12The case is being investigated under Section 41, Subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act, 1987.
