Embattled sport and Olympics Minister Tim Mander has sensationally stood down from cabinet after he was referred to federal police by the electoral watchdog. The premier accepted his decision this afternoon. Mr Mander says he's confident he'll be cleared.

00:01The Sports Minister was missing in action from a Sports Bonanza announcement at Lang Park.
00:08Now he's missing from the front bench.
00:10Tim Mander released a statement saying,
00:12This afternoon I advise the Premier I am standing aside today as Minister while this is being sorted.
00:19Last month it was revealed Tim Mander had enrolled to vote at an Arana Hills home understood to be a
00:26staff member's.
00:27It was my principal place of residence from early January to the end of March.
00:34It is common knowledge that Mr Mander was spending a lot of time living at the Parliamentary Annex here.
00:41Now the Australian Electoral Commission has referred the Olympics Minister to the Federal Police,
00:46saying there's an absence of evidence he lived at the enrolled address.
00:51It's an offence to knowingly provide false or misleading information to a Commonwealth entity.
00:57Mr Mander claims,
01:12He couldn't answer the most basic question, where do you live?
01:17The AFP has confirmed it's received a report of crime.
01:21It's not a minor thing. It's not a misdemeanor.
01:26Mr Mander's resignation comes after weeks of intense scrutiny.
01:31Labor has referred him to the corruption watchdog over whether he made appropriate conflict of interest declarations
01:37in his relationship with fellow Minister Amanda Kam.
01:41Environment Minister Andrew Powell will act in his role in the interim.
