South Australia has a new cabinet a day after the sudden departures of two of the state's most senior ministers. It triggered a major reshuffle involving some of the most key positions. But, with an election looming, the premier says it'll be a smooth transition for his frontbench

00:22opportunities to be able to refresh and renew in the lead-up to an important state election.
00:29Upper House MP Kyem Ma is stepping up to become Deputy Premier,
00:34the first Aboriginal person to hold the role in the state's history.

00:41Tom Coutts and Tonus will take over as Treasurer,
00:44returning to the position he held during Labor's last term in Government.
00:48I was a Treasurer who took a budget deficit into surplus, paid down debt,
00:53invested heavily in our schools and our hospitals and helped grow the economy.

01:01Well, South Australians have seen that one before and they know how it ends.
01:05His vacated portfolio of infrastructure and transport will be filled by up-and-coming Minister Emily Burke.
01:12There are two new faces in Cabinet.
01:15Lucy Hood is taking on the challenge of the algal bloom crisis as the new Minister of Climate, Environment and Water,
01:22while Rhiannon Pearce is now Minister for Emergency and Correctional Services and Recreation, Sport and Racing.
01:28Education Minister Blair Boyer will add police to his name,
01:31the fourth Minister to hold the portfolio in the last 18 months.
01:35It will be the first South Australian Cabinet where women outnumber men.

01:43And it turns out that it's a majority of women.
