00:03Adelaide's iconic Torrens Lake loved by locals and tourists but sites like this are becoming
00:09all too common. This lake is a disgrace. It's an absolute disgrace. It's supposed to be the
00:15centerpiece of Adelaide. Adelaide-based singer-songwriter John Schumann is leading the
00:19charge to clean up the river. He's asking the council to trial nanobubble technology. The
00:24nanobubble that has the capacity to break down the contaminants. Harmful bacteria has resulted
00:30in multiple closures of the river. The Torrens is why Adelaide was built right there next to the
00:35Torrens and let's keep it alive. It would be amazing that we could actually stop the closures of this
00:44part of the river that affects so many businesses and livelihoods. The technology was proposed last
00:50year to tackle algae bloom in West Lakes but was met with opposition from environmental agencies
00:56over a lack of long-term evidence supporting the science. It's a very new innovative technology
01:02which definitely needs more feasibility studies. Nobody's asking them to deploy it without testing.
01:09I hope that they test it. If the trial goes ahead the nanobubble technology will be used somewhere
01:14within this section of the river managed by the city of Adelaide council. If successful it hopes to
01:20expand it further into the Torrens across multiple council areas. The council is due to debate the
01:25proposal at its next meeting in less than a fortnight.
