00:22That car, Scott Anderson, 97.1.
00:25Cable's back.
00:27Cable's back here at the station.
00:29Woo!
00:29Celebration.
00:31Missed like the 6th, 7th, and much of the 8th inning of the Illinois-Purdue game,
00:35but still won the thing at Lina.
00:37So Purdue wasn't eliminated yesterday.
00:40No, Michigan State beat the crap out of them.
00:44And Spartans advance to the winner's bracket of the Big Ten baseball tournament
00:49has gotten pretty wonky.
00:51There's a double elimination tournament made up of teams.
00:55Do you care?
00:56I always struggle.
00:58Double elimination being when you lose twice, you're out?
01:01Yes.
01:02It's a double elimination tournament for the seeds 5 through 12.
01:08Four teams will advance from that group.
01:11Those four teams will then go into a single elimination bracket against seeds 1, 2, 3, and 4.
01:21All right.
01:21Yep.
01:23I don't know why you have double elimination for the worst teams.
01:26Both Michigan and Michigan State made the double elimination portion, and both staying alive.
01:34Spartans need to pretty much win the bracket to qualify for the NCAA baseball tournament.
01:38Michigan, according to D1, baseball is in, but they do not.
01:43If they have a bad tournament performance, could find their way out, but they're kind of a bubble team.
01:49Anyway, enough.
01:52So it feels like reporting on NFL free agency is starting to pick up again, and there is usually that
02:02precedes more signings.
02:04NFL offseason, best NFL team fits for 14 free agents.
02:09This was just put out on ESPN.
02:12I'm going to read a list of free agents, and you tell me which guy you want the most.
02:16All right?
02:17Okay.
02:17Wide receiver, Stefan Diggs.
02:20Guard, Kevin Zeitler.
02:22Edge, Joey Bosa.
02:24Wide receiver, Debo Samuel.
02:26Edge, AJ Epinesa.
02:28Vanessa offensive tackle, Taylor Decker.
02:32Tight end, Jonu Smith.
02:34Edge, Cameron Jordan.
02:36Linebacker, Bobby Wagner.
02:38Guard, Makai Becton.
02:40Edge, Jadavian Clowney.
02:42Edge, Von Miller.
02:44Running back, Nick Chubb.
02:46Cornerback, Trayvon Diggs.
02:48I just read a whole bunch of names.
02:50I don't know if we got time to throw 10 texts together, but text over right now.
02:54Out of those guys, who would you most want?
02:58Now, before we get to your answer, Gator, you know what I find fascinating?
03:04How many edge rushers are still available?
03:06There's a lot of them.
03:07There's a lot.
03:09And none of them are put in the elite category.
03:15They're in the good category.
03:17Some in the good category.
03:18Future Hall of Famers there.
03:19And given the emphasis on the edge rusher position in the National Football League,
03:27is this kind of surprising?
03:34Maybe a little bit, but I think teams are taking a wise approach in that if you're not in on
03:41the top free agents,
03:43then just wait.
03:44Wait for prices to calm down.
03:46And after June, you're going to see prices be significantly less than what you would have expected to pay back
03:52in April.
03:56Of the free agents, I'm not sure that we listed 14.
04:01I only feel like there's two that there's no way they would sign with Detroit.
04:08It would make no sense, and I don't see them signing with Detroit.
04:12Those two are wide receiver Stefan Diggs, running back Nick Chubb.
04:19Could you see either of them signing with Detroit?
04:21No, and I think, did you say Debo Samuel's in there too?
04:24I mean, that's another receiver that doesn't make sense for them.
04:27If I said Debo, yes, include him.
04:29Yes, I did.
04:30My apologies.
04:31Yes, Debo, the two wide receivers, Debo Diggs, and the running back Nick Chubb.
04:37There's one other name, right?
04:38Well, there's actually several names I don't think make any sense.
04:40Is it because of their position or just because of who they are?
04:44Most are position, but there is one because of who he is.
04:48And the one of who he is is Trayvon Diggs.
04:51Because he is not anywhere near the player that he was.
04:55He's had injuries, and when he's played, he's been bad.
04:59So I read something about him where the quarterback rating against for him was well over 100 for this past
05:08season.
05:08So I'm interested in adding players in the secondary, but I'll pass on him.
05:14But is his problem stemming from not being able to stay healthy, and when he's on the field, he's not
05:20healthy, and so his performance isn't good?
05:22I'm not sure, and it may be the case.
05:26The Lions will do their own deep dive and figure that out, but I just think I'll pass.
05:31And that's the only defensive back you mentioned in that group.
05:34I think there are other defensive backs that are still available that they can take a look at.
05:38But, yeah, if I'm looking at the list of who I like, it's got to be Ed Rusher, and because
05:42of the other positions, it seems like they took care of for the most part.
05:46They could.
05:47I could see.
05:47Maybe Bobby Wagner could make sense.
05:49Yeah.
05:50Bobby Wagner is a veteran, and, you know, they've...
05:54Before we get into that, Kang, do you agree with the assessment?
05:56The two wide receivers, the running back, and Gator included Trayvon Diggs.
06:01I can't imagine Trayvon Diggs would cost much money.
06:03But none of those guys are likely to even be on Detroit's radar.
06:08Yeah, I would agree.
06:09Yeah, and I don't think Diggs is on there either.
06:11But, yeah, those other...
06:12Yeah, the running backs and receivers, no.
06:14Okay, so if we eliminate Diggs, that leaves 10 guys.
06:1810 guys from this list.
06:20And I will tell you one of these 10, they say the best fit is Detroit.
06:23They are Kevin Zeitler, Joey Bosa, A.J. Epinesa, Taylor Decker, the tight end, Jonu Smith,
06:31edge rusher Cam Jordan, linebacker Bobby Wagner.
06:33Garb Mekhi Becton, edge Damian Clowney, edge Von Miller.
06:39And, look, this is a Cam Jordan show.
06:43In that, we've been calling for Cam Jordan for quite some time.
06:48Still productive.
06:50Look, he's ancient, okay?
06:51He's old.
06:52By NFL standards.
06:54But still had a heck of a season last year.
06:55How many...
06:56Do you remember off the top of your head how many sacks he had?
06:58It was 10 and a half or 11.
06:59Okay.
07:00At the age of...
07:01At the age of 37.
07:03But he hasn't missed a game in a few years.
07:06He's been healthy.
07:08Knock on the wood.
07:09He's NFL man of the year candidate every year.
07:13Which plays very well with the Lions.
07:18I mean, this is the guy that just seems to make so much sense.
07:23He's got a history with Dan Campbell going back to the New Orleans days.
07:29I mean, let's go.
07:31LFG.
07:32Am I wrong here?
07:33I don't think you're wrong.
07:34And, you know, the other edge candidates out there are intriguing.
07:40The name Bosa, automatic years, perk up.
07:43But understand that he's been injured a lot in his career.
07:46And he's not anywhere near the same player he was.
07:49And none of these guys are.
07:50I mean, Von Miller is another guy who's, okay, as good as he has been with a Hall of Fame
07:54career.
07:54Here, he's slowing down.
07:57He's an undersized guy.
07:59But he's still pretty productive.
08:02I think he had double-digit sacks last year.
08:05Had over 30 pressures.
08:08But, you know, understand what you're getting.
08:10If it's just pass rusher only, the Lions tend to shy away from that.
08:16And they have some resources now put into the edge rusher.
08:19With Wanham as a free agent.
08:21And drafting Derek Moore from Michigan.
08:26Hassanine, who didn't play last year because of injury.
08:29You know, that's another guy that they drafted last year.
08:32That they want to compete for that spot.
08:34So, I don't know if the Lions are actually thinking of adding another edge rusher to the mix.
08:41Because of what they have.
08:42I'd like to see it.
08:43Because I think it's more competition.
08:45And at some point, you may realize, okay, this is great.
08:48Would I rather have Cam Jordan for one year?
08:52Or Hassanine moving forward?
08:56Well, I mean, it's Cam Jordan.
08:58Can you speak him on a practice squad situation?
09:01So, just a couple things here.
09:02Indeed, Cam Jordan turns 37 this year.
09:05And indeed, he had 10 and a half sacks last year.
09:08And he hasn't missed a game his entire career.
09:11That's amazing.
09:12Out of 243 possible games, he's played 243.
09:16One correction, Dan Campbell was gone from New Orleans before he got there.
09:21Who would you want the most out of those free agents we read off?
09:23Text us at 248-539-9797.
09:26Or call us, like Joe in Detroit did.
09:28What's up, Joe?
09:30Hey, how you guys doing today?
09:31Good.
09:33Hey, I definitely think Cam Jordan is the move.
09:36Dan Campbell is for sure going to be looking.
09:39I'm sure he's probably already had a conversation with the guy.
09:42I think the Walter Payton Man of the Year.
09:44And I think the other big point about this is mentorship.
09:47Obviously, you have Aiden Hutchinson.
09:50But like these younger guys, you said, Ahmed Hosni, who hasn't played yet.
09:53Also, if you talk about Derek Moore coming out of Michigan, he's got a mentor, Aiden Hutchinson.
09:57But a guy like Cam Jordan, who hasn't missed games, that's an example.
10:01That's a great guy to bring into the team.
10:03I also would say Von Miller, with his Super Bowl experience, is another great player to bring into this team.
10:09And if they wanted to bring back Zeitler, I would be shocked.
10:12But he would be a great addition to this team right now with some of the struggles that we have.
10:15Again, going back to that mentorship and experience, that's what this younger core needs that's coming in.
10:22Thank you for the phone call, 2485-399-797.
10:26Campbell was there when Cam Jordan was there.
10:28My apologies.
10:30My apologies.
10:31Correction, unnecessary from the original correction.
10:34In the meantime, we'll get to some of your texts.
10:36Thank you for the phone call.
10:38Which of these free agents makes the most sense?
10:41It is Carson Anderson.
10:43We will tell you what ESPN.com says at 1235 here on 97.1.
