00:10I got some good news and some bad news.
00:12Do you know what it is?
00:13No.
00:14Come on, buddy.
00:15It sounds like we got a deer that fell through the ice.
00:18There she is.
00:20Hey, we got a cow on a calf here.
00:22You're dealing with a wild animal in unique circumstances.
00:26State law says you can only use two poles.
00:28Yep.
00:28And you're using three.
00:31This can go real easy or can be real difficult.
00:34There's risk to me, but there's also a deer that's got a clock.
00:39Set that down.
00:40All right.
00:41Just keep your hands out to your side.
00:44This is getting scary.
00:49Nevada.
00:50A land of extremes.
00:53From the strip to the summits.
00:56It's wild country.
00:58home to more than 900 species and a way of life worth protecting.
01:05Preserved for the people and the wildlife that call it home.
01:09One team stands guard.
01:13This is Nevada Wild.
01:39This is where we once a year live.
01:41out of the way from the town.
01:43There's a little group of does.
01:46They all pile off these hills down into these fields.
01:51It's a great opportunity to patrol an area like this with these vast resources.
01:56A lot of people go to Yellowstone or these national parks to see wildlife and there's 30 cars parked there
02:03to look at a moose.
02:04And out here we take it for granted every single day we're seeing large animals in their natural habitat.
02:13My name is John Anderson I've been a game warden here in Lincoln County now for 10 years.
02:18During that time I've been the only game warden out here in Lincoln County.
02:22One of the largest counties in the nation.
02:24The closest warden to me can be over 100 miles away.
02:29Most of the time I'm going out on my own to deal with situations where it sure would be nice
02:33to have someone else with me.
02:35But you just charge in and get the job done.
02:45Just one person fishing, I'll know.
02:53How's it going?
02:54How's it going?
02:56I'm going to stay a game warden.
02:57You got your limit.
02:58Yep, you got it.
02:59Awesome.
03:00Do you still have bait on this pole?
03:03I'm going to reel it in, I'm done.
03:04Yeah, because technically right now you can catch one and then you'd have six.
03:10Hopefully you don't have one on there.
03:13Nevada is not known for giant lakes and great fishing.
03:16We have a limited number of lakes, a limited number of resources in those lakes, so we don't have a
03:21whole lot of fish.
03:22Because of that we have small limits on the number of fish an individual can keep.
03:27Dang it.
03:29Yeah, now you're over limit.
03:32That's why I always tell people once you catch your fifth fish, you can catch and release that fifth one
03:37all day.
03:38This one's caught right there in his lips, so I'm okay with you letting him go.
03:42Well, because this county borders Clark County, Las Vegas, with two million people, a lot of people like to leave
03:48there and come up to Lincoln County and fish.
03:51Two million people can wipe out our resources really quick.
03:55You've got to be real careful with that.
03:56I know.
03:59This guy was just here.
04:00Uh-huh.
04:01He was over here, Echo.
04:03He had a deer that had just fallen.
04:04He was trying to get it out about 12 feet from shore.
04:07He tried to lasso it and get it out probably about three hours ago.
04:10Okay, well, we're going to go see if it's still alive and maybe we can get it saved.
04:14Have a good day.
04:14Uh-huh.
04:16So it sounds like we've got a deer that fell through the ice back at Echo State Park, so I'm
04:21going to hustle over there.
04:23Maybe we can get in there and save it.
04:41There she is.
04:54Come on, let's go.
04:56You guys almost ready?
04:59I'm Carrie Huebner.
05:00I am a game biologist for Nevada Department of Wildlife.
05:04Today's a really exciting day.
05:06We have been getting reports of an occasional moose coming through Nevada since 1950.
05:11However, in the last five to ten years, the observations have really increased.
05:17So we are going to attempt to put some collars on moose.
05:21These collars send data to satellites that show us where the moose are and determine what a population estimate might
05:29be for Nevada and what are their habitat and biological needs.
05:34Just one more BAM dart.
05:36We need a 3cc BAM dart.
05:38Yeah.
05:38My name is Nate LaHue.
05:40I'm the wildlife veterinarian for Nevada Department of Wildlife.
05:43Today, we're going to be anesthetizing moose.
05:46Anesthetizing is when you give drugs to make the animal go to sleep, and so they don't feel any pain.
05:51I'm here today to support the mobilization of these animals, to give the correct drugs to the capture crew that's
05:59going to be darting them.
06:00They'll fly out.
06:01We're going to follow them.
06:02They're going to drop down on them, get that dart in a nice muscle mass.
06:06Once that animal goes down, we'll come in and do an exam on the moose.
06:10We'll take blood.
06:11We'll get that collar on.
06:12We don't have very many moose in Nevada, so we want to make a special sure that we don't lose
06:18any.
06:22You ready?
06:23There's a capture helicopter that is going to tranquilize the moose.
06:28The other helicopter is going to have all of us and our wildlife health staff plus biologists.
06:33We're not sure what kind of conditions we're going to be working in.
06:37There's a few unknowns today.
06:43Can everybody here talk okay?
06:45Can you hear me?
06:46Not yet.
06:49Okay, we're good to go.
07:02There she is.
07:04That deer, still alive, all attempt to get it off the ice.
07:15With that deer on the ice, we have a situation where there's risk to me, but there's also a deer
07:21that's got a clock.
07:22That deer is important to our deer population here in Lincoln County.
07:26I have the opportunity to go out and save this deer, and that's worth it to me.
07:31I have the opportunity to go out and save this deer, and that's worth it to me.
08:03Yeah?
08:04Yeah?
08:04She's been there a long time.
08:05The ice is all melted underneath her.
08:10Okay.
08:18She's still got some heat in her interior.
08:23She's got her ears back, and she's having a hard time holding her head up.
08:38I'm kind of afraid that handling her a lot is going to put her into shock, and then she'll just
08:43die on me.
09:01She's still got some fight in her.
09:06I can drive to right here.
09:20I think she's got a chance.
09:22We just need to get her warmed up, and that's hard to do out here.
09:29In Lincoln County, we don't have a facility to rehabilitate deer,
09:33so we're going to get it to my house and see if we can get her core temperature warmed up.
09:45I'd say she has a 50-50 chance right now of making it.
09:48And if we can get her back in a quiet place under some blankets with a heat lamp on it,
09:53it's possible.
09:55But deer, deer are notorious for just, I mean, they get handled, they get stressed, and they just give up.
10:04Success rates on darting and transplanting them are really low.
10:07So I'm going to do my best to try to save her, but I mean, that's the natural world sometimes.
10:15It's a little cruel.
10:18She could definitely go into shock and just die.
10:24There's a thousand deer in that valley.
10:27Why are you putting that much effort into this one deer?
10:31And it's because we genuinely care about the welfare of animals.
10:57Just trying to get her warmed up.
10:59This is a heat lamp, so that'll get some heat on her.
11:07Our goal now is to get her core temperature up and keep her from going into shock.
11:14So I'm actually going to just get out of here and let her be by herself in here where it's
11:20quiet.
11:21And that heat lamp will get on her and hopefully warm her up.
11:25Hey, you're okay.
11:31So she's not out of the woods yet.
11:34Right now, all we can do is hope.
11:42So we are going to attempt to put some collars on moose that show us where the moose are
11:48and what are their habitat and biological needs.
11:53We have got some moose that are using the extreme northeastern corner of Nevada and Bilk Mountain.
12:03Moose really like wetlands.
12:05They eat so much woody vegetation, especially during the winter.
12:11All right, guys, we're just going to start dropping into the extreme now.
12:18I don't like to hug the ground, doesn't it?
12:25Okay, we've got a cow and a calf here.
12:27Probably a good one to take, huh?
12:29Yes, absolutely.
12:31Okay.
12:41An animal that's being darted and going to sleep on the run,
12:45we want to make sure they're not in any area where they could fall down and hurt themselves.
12:50Looking for some nice snow, it's going to be as soft cushion as possible.
12:59Okay, we just hit her.
13:01Great job.
13:02She's nice out in her flats, too.
13:05Perfect.
13:08Stay out here so I don't pressure her mouth in the wrong direction.
13:59How's it going?
14:03You guys have any luck over here?
14:05Nothing today, huh?
14:07Yeah.
14:08Well, this is usually the hot spot, huh?
14:10Quick check your fishing license.
14:11Make sure you got one today.
14:13I purchased it on the phone.
14:15Okay.
14:17Game Orton, Jason Jackson, I patrolled a western portion of Elko County.
14:21A little breezy today, huh?
14:22Yeah.
14:22And yesterday was beautiful out here.
14:25Thank you, sir.
14:26A little stove won't stay lit out, boy.
14:29Today, I'm up here on what we call Wild Horse Reservoir.
14:32It typically freezes over every year, so we have a big fishing derby tournament that we have every year.
14:39And there's usually anywhere between 300 and 500 people out on the ice.
14:44Are you guys in the derby or just out fishing?
14:45We're in the derby.
14:46Yeah.
14:46Well, good luck, guys.
14:47I hope you win.
14:52Since this is such a huge event, I got three other game wardens with me today out here patrolling.
15:01Hey, Ben.
15:03Hello.
15:04So what we had yesterday, we had probably, I don't know, about 500 people out on the ice.
15:08It's busy as far as the derby goes yesterday, but today it looks like maybe half the people out there.
15:13Just went out and pre-scouted a little bit, and we got probably 250, 300 people out there on the
15:18ice.
15:18So we'll kind of all stay together and kind of leapfrog and see where all the activity's at.
15:23Sounds good?
15:24I'll be back.
15:25See you out there.
15:30Up here, a lot of people come from out of state and out of town to come up and try
15:34to catch the biggest fish.
15:36Conditions are a little bit worse today than they were yesterday, but there's still people fishing out there.
15:41So we're going to head out on the ice and go check some fishing licenses and see what we come
15:46up with.
15:48We have two other officers out there.
15:51Quinn is out there with us today and also Ben Turner.
15:56We'll just go out to this big group first and then we'll start hitting them.
15:59We can split off.
16:02Because of the fact that there is money involved with this type of fishing tournament or derby, people have a
16:09tendency to cheat a little bit.
16:11Legally, you can use up to two fishing poles, but sometimes they want to cheat a little bit so they
16:18have more opportunity to try to catch more fish.
16:21Obviously, the more fish you catch, the more opportunity you have to catch the bigger fish.
16:28How's it going?
16:31How are you guys doing today?
16:33It's cold out here.
16:34Just a little chilly, huh?
16:36He's the only one ever catching anything.
16:37He's got that lucky hole and lucky pole, huh?
16:40I seriously like...
16:41He's got that luck right on.
16:43Well, you guys just watching fish or are you helping the fish too?
16:47I'm just watching.
16:47I'm not good at fishing.
16:48No?
16:49I don't go anywhere near his poles.
16:50How does that machine do with those tracks on it?
16:53We're still good.
16:54Yeah?
16:54Yeah, a little more.
16:55It should be mine, I think.
16:5810, 20, 20.
16:59Yes, sir?
16:59Look at this.
17:03Let's go at nine.
17:05Perfect.
17:06Thank you, sir.
17:06That's me, my son.
17:08And he's the one catching all the fish, huh?
17:11That's the way it should be.
17:12Right?
17:14He's got his...
17:17Did you buy a brand new one this year yet?
17:20Yeah.
17:21I thought it was like an auto-update.
17:23They're a problematic group of film.
17:25Auto-renew.
17:26Oh, man.
17:27Why don't I pick one?
17:29Did he buy a brand new one?
17:30Because this one expired yesterday.
17:36We've been getting reports of an occasional moose coming through Nevada since 1950.
17:42However, in the last five to ten years, the observations have really increased.
17:48So we are going to attempt to determine what a population estimate might be for Nevada.
17:53So...
17:55I'm okay.
17:56It's been 15 minutes since you got darted.
18:08Hey, Jonathan, what's that calf doing while the cows darted?
18:12The calf is just right with her.
18:15Right with her.
18:17The calf doesn't quite know what's going on, and so you have to be very careful.
18:23We understood the risk that they may have calves with them.
18:26Hopefully, the calf will go off a safe distance, watch what we're doing, and then they'll be able
18:32to be reunited as soon as we leave the area.
18:34It's really scary for that calf.
18:37Like, what the f*** is on with mom?
18:46They're almost to her.
18:51Stand by one minute.
19:07The calf doesn't quite know what to do.
19:25This is getting scary.
19:55There she goes.
20:03Any time that you go to capture an animal, there is risk.
20:07You're dealing with a wild animal in unique circumstances.
20:11The capture crew, they have experience with every animal you can think of.
20:16These guys do the tough work of making sure they get that animal to where it won't enter
20:21itself or us.
20:23They'll have a blindfold on the animal to reduce the stress, and then that's when we come in.
20:30Keep your eyes on her.
20:32All right.
20:33It's okay.
20:41Just the pressure of their body when they're anesthetized on their limbs can actually reduce
20:46blood flow to those limbs.
20:48It's really important that we get them in a correct position.
20:53I'm going to sit right here and hold her.
20:55Yeah, you want to sit with her head?
20:56Don't.
21:01As soon as that animal is secure, the main goal will be to get a quick collar on them,
21:06but if we could potentially get blood.
21:08But we can learn a lot about their diets and see overall health of the animal.
21:14There we go.
21:15You got it?
21:16All right.
21:18Good collar tightness.
21:19I'm in your opinion.
21:21A little bit looser, said, than too tight.
21:23She's going to put it on weight, obviously.
21:25She'll certainly have it.
21:26Yeah.
21:27Well, you're on the side of caution.
21:29Give her more room.
21:30Yeah.
21:31Mm-hmm.
21:31She's nice now.
21:32Man, she's in really good shape.
21:35She looks really good.
21:50She's got both her drugs.
21:53We got all the blood.
21:55You want to start walking?
21:58We'll get the reversal in.
22:06She could head this way, so just make sure you know where the helicopter is if you need
22:10to get behind it.
22:11She has a calf, so she could be pretty if she doesn't know where it is.
22:19Oh, there's that ear flick.
22:24Oh, there you go.
22:25Good job.
22:28Good morning.
22:33This was a really cool experience to be able to go out with the capture crew and our chase
22:38helicopter and all the things that had to come together.
22:41It was just really a highlight of my career.
22:45Good job, team.
22:47Good job, guys.
22:48That was awesome.
22:50There she goes up the canyon.
22:54There's a calf.
22:56She went down.
23:02Overall, the moose looked really good.
23:04Hopefully, through the information we gather through the collaring, we'll really be able
23:08to grasp how many moose we might have in Nevada.
23:11We're going to embrace them and manage them with the same expectations as we do all over
23:16other Nevada wildlife.
23:17There she is with her calf.
23:28Did you really buy a brand new one?
23:29Because this one expired yesterday.
23:31No, I haven't bought one yet.
23:32Not for him?
23:33Not for him.
23:34Unless it's automatic updates or renewing.
23:37Auto-renewing.
23:38OK.
23:39Can you actually get his license again?
23:40Yeah.
23:41I'll just see if they have it coming out.
23:43Perfect.
23:44If I can get a hold of my disc bag.
23:46If they sign up for online when they purchase their original licenses, it could be set to
23:51auto-renew, whether that's a fishing license or hunting license.
23:54So if it is, they won't have their current one in their possession because it hasn't been
23:58mailed to them yet, especially if it just expired yesterday.
24:01So the only way to check would be to see electronically is if it's in our system or not.
24:07We know my 20s on the south end of the lake.
24:08Can I get a 27-29 license check on Nevada, please?
24:12Go ahead, you're first.
24:17We already know it's going to be last spelling.
24:24Fish, come on!
24:25Looks like I'm not showing you any active fishing licenses for your subject.
24:3010 for real.
24:31I'll be 10-24, 10-8.
24:33Victor Williams.
24:36So until you get a new current and valid fishing license, you're not going to fish
24:42the rest of the bay, okay?
24:42All right.
24:43And I'm not going to write you a ticket, so just make sure when you get to town next to
24:47go, or if your dad's got, if he can get online, you can buy a license today if he's able
24:54to.
24:55If he has a credit card with him, he's able to get into our system.
24:57Okay.
24:57Okay?
24:58Appreciate it.
24:58All right, buddy?
24:59Yep.
25:00Have a good one, huh?
25:01I'm out.
25:01Stay warm.
25:03I could have issued him a citation, but the kid's like 14 years old.
25:07It's not really fair to the kid when, you know, dad was pretty much in charge of his
25:11license and didn't realize it expired yesterday, so it was an honest mistake.
25:29How's it going, fellas?
25:32Not bad.
25:33Everywhere, just over here.
25:35It's, uh, slow all over.
25:37Oh, yeah.
25:39You guys just left.
25:40They caught one pretty nice one and one perch.
25:42Yeah.
25:43And then, uh, I don't think this group has caught any.
25:45Huh.
25:46So these two are your poles?
25:48Those are mine.
25:49And the one here in your end?
25:51Hopefully, if I get you on your problem, you're out.
25:54So you got your fishing license with you today?
25:56Sure.
25:57I'll go check his license, too.
26:02Your license?
26:03How are you?
26:04Right here in my tackle box.
26:04Okay.
26:09Do you guys have any you kept yet?
26:10I got one.
26:11On that stringer.
26:13First fish of the day.
26:14Okay.
26:17So when I pull up here, I see you fishing with a pole in your hand.
26:21Pat it in my hand.
26:22Yep.
26:22Jigging.
26:24Which was in the water.
26:25And then you have another pole there and another pole there.
26:27Okay.
26:28So state law says you can only use two poles.
26:31Yep.
26:32And you're using three.
26:33Okay.
26:46Never get tired of coming out here and seeing this.
26:49I mean, this is a beautiful day on the water.
26:51I mean, just to get paid to do it is amazing.
26:54We're controlling out at Lake Mead National Recreation Area,
26:56which is a federal national recreation area,
27:00just about 20 miles from the Las Vegas Strip.
27:03Lake Mead is one of the largest man-made lakes in the world,
27:07created by the construction of the Hoover Dam.
27:09It was built not only for the hydroelectric power
27:12that would be generated from that dam,
27:14but also to create a reservoir of water
27:15for a number of desert southwest states.
27:18It's an enormous, wonderful natural resource
27:20that is great to patrol.
27:22It's great to work in and love being out here.
27:26You can see the difference in color on the rock.
27:29That line is the original water level
27:32of when Hoover Dam was completed
27:34and the lake was completely full.
27:35Last time it was up that high was in the 80s,
27:38but still quite a bit of water surface area
27:40for us to patrol.
27:42It's so close to the Las Vegas Strip.
27:44We do get a ton of visitors from out of town
27:47that come out to enjoy it.
27:48Some of them have no idea that the laws
27:50in federal property are a little bit different
27:52from state laws.
27:53Our number one goal, obviously,
27:54is to enforce recreational boating safety,
27:57check anglers for fishing licenses and compliance.
28:01How are we doing, fellas?
28:02State game warden.
28:03Check fishing licenses and safety equipment, please.
28:06Okay, do you have another fire extinguisher?
28:07Because this one is no bueno.
28:09State of Nevada has three recreational boating requirements,
28:13a type 4 throwable PFD,
28:15a PFD for each individual on board,
28:17and a working fire extinguisher.
28:20If you do have a fire on the vessel,
28:22that's going to be your first line of defense for that.
28:24If there's a fire on the vessel,
28:26the vessel becomes inoperable.
28:28If there's a one violation,
28:29failure to carry a valid fire extinguisher,
28:31total bail amount is $90.
28:32Just make sure you take care of it
28:34on or before that date,
28:35otherwise it'll go to warrant in the state of Nevada.
28:36Okay, so what are your plans for the rest of the day?
28:38We'll go out by a fire extinguisher.
28:40Okay, perfect.
28:48How are you doing today?
28:50Enjoying the day with your boys?
28:51Yeah.
28:52Nice.
28:52Beautiful.
28:54Appreciate it.
28:54All right.
28:55Stay fun.
28:56Have a good day.
28:57Enjoy it.
28:57Show him how to fish, huh, boys?
28:59I'm telling you.
28:59All right.
29:10How are you doing, babe?
29:11Good, how are you?
29:12Good.
29:12Stay at Game Mortal.
29:13Check fishing license, please.
29:14Hey, you know what?
29:15I left it in my car, bro.
29:17All right.
29:18We can deal with that.
29:19Do you have your driver's license with you,
29:20or everything's up there?
29:21I left all my wallet in there.
29:22All right.
29:24What's your ass name, babe?
29:25First.
29:28Date of breath.
29:30Okay.
29:31Hang tight.
29:32Let me check, all right?
29:33Problem.
29:34All right.
29:34Reno 3411.
29:35Fishing contact.
29:37Driver's license out of Nevada.
29:413411.
29:42So you've got a resident annual fish.
29:44It's really a possible hit on your subject.
29:47You've got a 10th word.
29:50All right.
29:51I've got some good news and some bad news.
29:53Do you know what it is?
29:54No.
29:55Come on, buddy.
29:56I don't know.
29:57You know what it is.
30:08I've got some good news and some bad news.
30:10Do you know what it is?
30:11No.
30:12Come on, buddy.
30:13I don't know.
30:14You know what it is.
30:16So you do have a current fishing license, so that's good.
30:18Okay.
30:19But you know you've got a failure to appear warrant?
30:21Yes, I do.
30:21Well, why are you lying to me then?
30:23What do you mean?
30:24I just asked you.
30:25I do know that.
30:27I got pulled over two times for it.
30:29And they said I got a warrant for my arrest.
30:31And I was like, what?
30:32So I looked it up.
30:33I even asked my buddy that works at Metro to go check it out.
30:36Like, hey, do I have anything on my record?
30:38Yeah, what did he say?
30:39He said, no, you don't.
30:40Come on, dude.
30:41Okay.
30:41I've been trying to figure this out.
30:43So I finally called the whatever.
30:46And then they said that it was right before Vegas.
30:48So like prim?
30:50Yes.
30:50It's 700 to pay for it.
30:52And I've been waiting for, like, the next paycheck to do it.
30:56I have two kids.
30:58You know what I mean?
30:58I have family.
30:59What do you do for work?
31:00I might do tattoos.
31:02Well, dude, tattoos cost a lot of money.
31:05I mean, you guys charge grip, especially in Vegas.
31:08And we have bills to pay, you know?
31:10When I come across this warrant, I have a duty to deal with it as a law enforcement officer.
31:14So it's really difficult for me in this situation.
31:19Yeah.
31:22Do you have any drugs or weapons or anything on you?
31:24I do not.
31:24Anything I need to be worried about?
31:26Nope.
31:26I have a pre-roll.
31:28Pre-roll?
31:28What the hell is pre-roll?
31:29A joint.
31:31You have a joint with you?
31:33Correct.
31:33Okay.
31:33You know you're on federal property, right?
31:35Oh, I am?
31:36You're not allowed to have it on federal property.
31:38Oh, I didn't know that.
31:45And then you have another pole there and another pole there.
31:48So state law says you can only use two poles.
31:51Yep.
31:52And you're using three.
31:53Okay.
31:53Right?
31:54I had it in the water.
31:55I had it in the water.
31:56Right?
31:56Yep.
31:56And you reeled it up as soon as you saw me, right?
31:58Yep.
31:58Okay.
31:59So thanks for being honest.
32:01Yeah.
32:01But I'm going to issue a citation for that today, okay?
32:04Nope.
32:04Fair enough.
32:05All right.
32:05Is everything current and valid on here?
32:06That is.
32:07I can be able to license links it if you want.
32:08Is it up here at the truck?
32:10Yeah.
32:10Do you have any firearms in your rigs?
32:12No.
32:12No?
32:12Not at all?
32:13Do you have any on you?
32:14No.
32:14Okay.
32:14Yeah, go get your driver's license if you don't mind.
32:16If I can, yeah, I'll hold on to it.
32:20Basically, you can only use two and not three.
32:22So I'm going to be issuing a citation for using too many fishing poles.
32:26Trying to catch too many fish too fast.
32:2910 for real, it's going to be a fishing contact.
32:31My 20 is in a pin rod arm near the highway.
32:34Quite interesting when he saw me coming.
32:36I mean, he tried to turn us back to me and reel up really fast, which is common.
32:39I mean, they don't really expect to see us out here in this capacity on a four-wheeler.
32:45Going far?
32:46Yeah.
32:47Super right in the tickets.
32:48But he was pretty compliant.
32:50So far, he's been really compliant.
32:55And everything's curling on here, you said?
32:57Okay.
32:59Do you have any fish that you caught?
33:01Where's that?
33:02There's nothing in that hole.
33:03In the hole?
33:04Yep.
33:04Mind pulling it up for me?
33:06No, no, you don't have to.
33:10Okay, I'm going to give these back to you.
33:15Okay.
33:16Like I said, thanks for being honest with me.
33:18But the state law allows us to use two poles and not three, okay?
33:21So I issued a citation today.
33:23I cited the Elko Justice Court, which is in Elko County.
33:26Yep.
33:27Citation is sufficient with more than two poles.
33:29Yep.
33:30For a grand total of $195.
33:32Okay.
33:33Your signature at the bottom is not an admission of guilt.
33:35Just promise to appear to take care of my ticket, okay?
33:37Yeah, no worries.
33:38Fair enough.
33:38All right, sir.
33:40Awesome.
33:41Thanks.
33:41See you, Ben.
33:42Have a good day.
33:42You bet.
34:01Hey, buddy.
34:04It was a good day, man.
34:05Everybody was cooperative and compliant.
34:08I didn't have any issues.
34:09What about you?
34:10I only had the one warning.
34:13Well, what do you think?
34:14I think it's cold.
34:16About done for the day?
34:18I think so.
34:18I think we checked just about everybody we can check, huh?
34:21Just that the day gets nicer, too, you know?
34:23I know.
34:24It's beautiful now.
34:24It wasn't like this this morning.
34:26Cruise on back and get some grub?
34:28Sounds like a plan.
34:30Yeah.
34:57Marijuana has been legalized in Nevada for a number of years, but the federal government
35:01has not recognized the legality of it.
35:04So anyone that comes from Vegas who possibly may be in possession of it is violating federal
35:09law at that point.
35:10Do you have a favor?
35:11Just go ahead and set that down.
35:13All right.
35:14Just keep your hands out to your side.
35:18All right.
35:19Come up here.
35:20All right, do you have a favor?
35:20Turn around for me.
35:22All right.
35:22Place your hands if you're on your back.
35:23Palms together.
35:28Anything in this pocket here?
35:29No.
35:30So you got your fishing license in your wallet, right?
35:32Yeah, man.
35:32So you know what happens?
35:33What happened?
35:34You said, oh, yeah, here's my fishing license, bro.
35:36I'm gone.
35:37That was the only time I actually did it.
35:39I, like, totally forgot my wallet.
35:41What's in here?
35:42My cell phone.
35:43Okay.
35:44Let's stick that in there, all right?
35:45Rear pocket.
35:48That's the weed.
35:50Man, it's all packaged up and everything, huh?
35:52Where'd you get that?
35:53The dispensary.
35:55Obviously, I placed you under arrest for your warrant, okay?
35:58You've already had two chances.
35:59You've been pulled over two times before.
36:01I know, man, but, like, where can I get money?
36:03You know what I'm saying?
36:04I'm waiting for it.
36:05Just relax, okay?
36:06All right.
36:06I'm sorry.
36:07Like I said, I just have to deal with the situation, correct?
36:10Yeah.
36:10This can go real easy or can be real difficult.
36:14Are we cool?
36:15Yeah.
36:16Okay.
36:18Man, why couldn't you be fishing on a flat beach?
36:21Be a lot easier.
36:24All right.
36:24Okay.
36:24Okay.
36:26So where am I going to be at, man?
36:28CCDC.
36:29Where is that at?
36:30Clark County Detention Center, downtown Vegas.
36:32All right.
36:33I'm going to grab your stuff.
36:40Reno, 3411.
36:41You can go ahead and show me 1095 with that subject.
36:44Could you meet me at G-Doc?
36:46Approximately 15 minutes.
36:49I mean, you never want to ruin someone's day.
36:51The guy's trying to enjoy a day of fishing, and had he had his license on him, I never
36:55would have run him through my dispatch to find out about the warrant, because I probably
36:58would not have checked it if he had a valid fishing license.
37:01Go ahead and step up on the dock, okay?
37:02Go ahead and step down.
37:04Okay.
37:04Got him?
37:06What does your wife do?
37:07She needs to take care of the kids?
37:09Yeah.
37:09We'll give her a shout.
37:10We'll tell her what's up, right?
37:12All right.
37:13Left foot up and in.
37:14Yeah, we're sitting in the front seat, dude.
37:15It's a first class ride.
37:16Yeah.
37:17All right.
37:25Please leave your message.
37:26Leave your message.
37:27She doesn't check her.
37:29Oh, she's calling back right now.
37:31Hello?
37:32Hi.
37:33Babe, this is not a joke, okay?
37:37Hello?
37:39Yeah.
37:39I'm going to jail.
37:42You know that warrant that I got pulled over for?
37:45They're taking me in.
37:48I can't do this right now.
37:56You know that warrant that I got pulled over for?
37:59They're taking me in.
38:03I can't do this right now.
38:06Well, I can't either.
38:08Hey, my name is Chris Walther.
38:10I'm a game warden, Department of Wildlife.
38:12So I contacted your husband today.
38:15I placed him under arrest for that warrant, and I'm going to be transporting him to Clark
38:18County Detention Center, downtown Vegas.
38:22Okay, so I'm kind of freaking out a little bit.
38:25Don't.
38:26I don't know, like, how to get his car or, like, how to, like.
38:31Don't worry about that, okay?
38:33I'm going to secure everything in his vehicle.
38:35I'm going to lock his vehicle.
38:36The only thing he's going to take to jail with him is driver's license, his cell phone, and his car
38:39keys.
38:39I'm going to notify National Park Service that the vehicle is here.
38:42I'll give him the license plate.
38:43They'll make sure that, you know, it doesn't get towed.
38:46Okay, the car is okay.
38:47We won't have to pay anything for it.
38:49No, ma'am.
38:50We can't afford to, like.
38:51Okay, and that's fine.
38:53For anything.
38:54And that's fine.
38:55It's just a traffic warrant, so once he pays out, it's done.
38:58Do you know if he has, like, hours or, like, if I'm going to be able to bring my kids?
39:02Jail's 24-7.
39:04Okay.
39:05They don't close.
39:06It's Vegas.
39:06Okay.
39:07It's just going to be all right, okay?
39:08Don't be upset.
39:11Okay.
39:11All right, we make mistakes, pay for those mistakes, and we deal with them and move on
39:15with our lives.
39:16You want to say bye to your husband?
39:18Yeah.
39:18Okay, here he is.
39:19Hello?
39:20What?
39:21You'll be all right, okay?
39:23I don't know what they're doing.
39:26You'll be all right.
39:28Okay?
39:29Okay.
39:30Okay.
39:31We're good, okay?
39:31Just relax.
39:32All right, I'll text you later.
39:34Okay.
39:34All right, bye.
39:37So the individual was extremely compliant, which is nice.
39:40It makes my job a lot easier, and I have no issues helping him get through probably a
39:46really difficult day in his life to make it as easy as possible on him.
39:52A Reno 3411 Hatchery.
39:55Sunset Overlook.
39:56Vehicle is secured.
40:01I do feel bad for him.
40:02Obviously, you know, his wife was pretty upset.
40:06But for me, it's just part of the job.
40:08And if that's what the situation calls for, then we'll make it happen.
40:26My wife will love I'm using her water bottles through this.
40:38I'm just replacing these water bottles that have cooled off with warmer ones.
40:43She's looking better, honestly.
40:46She's got a little more fight.
40:53I'm plugging her nose like that to see if she'll fight me on it if she can't breathe.
41:00And she is.
41:01Earlier, she would just sit there.
41:03Now she's, like, trying to pull back from it.
41:06So I think she's doing better.
41:09These water bottles hopefully will raise her temperature a little bit.
41:14And like I said, all we can do is just keep trying to raise that temperature and see if
41:18she makes it.
41:21It's all up to her.
41:45It's all up to her.
