00:10We just received a call from dispatch of, uh, shocks fired.
00:14Why would you just dump a deer that you shot and gutted?
00:17This guy left his deer tag attached to the antlers.
00:20It's like leaving your driver's license at a crime scene.
00:23We are here to capture some California bickering sheep.
00:27Go get them!
00:28It's really exciting to move animals and reestablish populations.
00:32I completely sympathize with your hunting partner passing.
00:35We still have a job to do.
00:37Who's gone?
00:39Whose is it? Yours or yours?
00:43Nevada.
00:45A land of extremes.
00:48From the strip to the summits.
00:50It's wild country.
00:52Home to more than 900 species.
00:55And a way of life worth protecting.
00:58Preserved for the people and the wildlife that call it home.
01:02One team stands guard.
01:05This is Nevada Wild.
01:21You know, I want to welcome everybody here today.
01:26You know, it's been a lot of years since this started.
01:28And each and every one of you here, you know, you're all, you're all part of this.
01:32I was telling my grandson today, I said, you're going to be able to tell your grandkids what you helped
01:36out with up here.
01:37That you bring all this back.
01:39Okay, with that, I better go ahead and now say a prayer here with these sheep.
01:52All right, my name is Mike Cox, statewide big horn sheep, staff biologist.
01:58Tomorrow, we're going to capture some California big horn sheep off the sheep creek range.
02:03We're looking at 20 to 25 animals.
02:06Majority of them will be using lambs.
02:09Managing our big horn sheep statewide for over 20 years.
02:13It's been my responsibility to put sheep back on the mountain and work with everyone to do that.
02:20This is a big deal.
02:20And I want you to tell us a little bit about why it's a big deal.
02:26So this is the first reintroduction of big horn sheep to travel lands in Nevada.
02:30So this is a very significant day for the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.
02:34The lake range hasn't seen sheep since the early 1900s.
02:37I'm Emily Hagler.
02:38I work for the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe in the Natural Resource Department.
02:41And I'm an environmental specialist.
02:43The east side of the lake is a very sacred site to the tribe.
02:47And a lot of people don't ever get the opportunity to go to the east side of the lake.
02:50It's a very big deal to have this collaborative effort happening with Nevada Department of Wildlife
02:55to bring sheep back to the reservation.
02:57I hope everybody here really just understands the significance of that.
03:02It's really neat.
03:03We've got a lot of experience putting sheep back to places that they haven't been at for over 100 years.
03:09But this one's special because this is the first ever translocation to a tribal land here in the state of
03:16Nevada.
03:17Well, get some good sleep and we'll see you bright and early here, 4 to 45 a.m.
03:40We are here, so we're going to set up the base camp and we'll see the helicopter come in in
03:51about a half hour.
03:53And we better get our butts in gear and get it ready.
03:59When Lewis and Clark explored the west for the first time, there was likely a million bighorn sheep
04:06scattered from northern Montana all the way to Texas.
04:10By the 1920s, we had lost 90 to 95 percent of the bighorn sheep.
04:16So I'm putting together a swabbing tote to sample the bacteria and the tonsils of each animal.
04:25It's one of the greatest things I've done in my career is to be a part of restoring herds and
04:31throughout the state.
04:34So a helicopter is going to be landing probably about 50 yards to the west of the tripod, which is
04:42the weigh scale.
04:43They'll be brought and weighed.
04:46And then each animal will be on a separate table.
04:50You can see the oxygen tanks here.
04:52We'll start giving them oxygen when they come in.
04:55All the collars, the satellite collars, are going to be put on on that table.
04:59And so this is our processing tables.
05:20The folks handling sheep, the big things are plenty of support underneath the animals.
05:27Don't carry weight by the head, but somebody needs to be on the head at all times to pull in
05:32that head.
05:34It may be damaged.
05:35The horns.
05:36Yep.
05:36Hang on to those horns.
05:38Make sure you have control of it, but don't carry weight with that head.
05:42At least two people on the body.
05:44Nobody needs to be trying to carry a whole sheep.
05:46Let's have a great time.
05:47A beautiful day.
05:49We've got fresh snow for the crew to find the sheep.
05:53And I'm feeling good about this day.
06:07There's a lot of things that are critical to safely capture those animals and bring them back.
06:13We definitely want the capture crew to be safe when they're out there flying in the helicopter.
06:18And then the loading of the sheep.
06:20They don't lose any animals.
06:22They don't run off.
06:32My name's Quinn Hesterly.
06:34I'm a Nevada game warden with the Department of Wildlife.
06:37Today we're working on a case about a deer that was field-dressed and left at the dump.
06:45The individual left their tag on top of it.
06:48I've been in contact with the individual, and he's going to meet us at the office.
06:54I'll be working with Jason Jackson.
06:56I'll be the primary.
06:58Jason will be there as more or less the cover officer.
07:00He may interject whenever he hears something that I may not be picking up on.
07:05But for the most part, he's just there for my safety and his.
07:11Why would you just dump a deer that you shot and gutted in a city dump when he could have
07:19dumped it in the, like, out in the woods?
07:22And the coyotes would have eaten it up in, like, one or two days, and there would have been no,
07:27nothing left.
07:28So basically there would have been no case had he not dumped a deer where he dumped it.
07:32That's the deer.
07:34This guy left his deer tag attached to the antlers.
07:38It's like leaving your driver's license at a crime scene, right?
07:40He had no intention of attempting to hide what he did.
07:44He has had tags in the past.
07:46He has harvested other animals.
07:50Why just leave this one behind with all your information right there?
07:56We don't know what their feelings are towards Game Wardens.
07:59Potentially they may know that they did this violation, so they may not be very happy to see us.
08:04But as it sits right now, what I'm looking at is the Waste of Game.
08:07It's a misdemeanor violation, but it does come with demerit points.
08:12And what that means is it's similar to driving violations.
08:16You have too many driving violations, your driving privileges are revoked.
08:20Essentially the same thing happens with too many game violations.
08:24If you accrue a 12 demerits, you lose your hunting privileges for three years.
09:09To capture crews, they are to slow those animals down to as slow as speed as possible.
09:14Which means they're going to allow that group of animals to be going uphill.
09:18That's when they would prefer to take their shot.
09:20The gunner knows that the pilot is, hey, here's your nanosecond to shoot.
09:25So they're just in sync.
09:40First thing that will calm those animals down is the blindfold.
09:44When they can't see what's going on, their heart rate automatically goes down.
10:03The crew that we have today, they have captured literally thousands of animals.
10:08They are so talented.
10:12Four coming in.
10:14All crews, hands on deck.
10:38We have four coming in now.
10:41They'll weigh them.
10:42Then they'll bring them to the table where the veterinarians will check them out.
10:47And then from there, they'll move them into the trailers after they've taken their blood
10:50samples and making sure they're healthy and happy.
10:58Go get them!
11:19Go!
11:20Go!
11:36Okay, let's go ahead and move her a little bit down to the end.
11:42That'll make it better.
11:43There you go.
11:45Ready?
11:47One of the important things also is we're keeping our voices down.
11:51You don't want to arouse the animals.
11:54Keep them cold.
11:55Capture myopathy can occur when an animal is overstressed.
12:00It's a combination of high temperature, high respiration rate, and a high heart rate.
12:06A sedative will really help the animal.
12:08They're not really hearing things.
12:11They're not really feeling things.
12:12Our wildlife vet is going to be monitoring the conditions that would lead to capture myopathy.
12:20He's down to the home.
12:24My name is Nate LaHue.
12:26This week has been my first week of captures with the department, and I'm providing the veterinary support for that.
12:32Today we're surveying for a number of diseases.
12:34One of the biggest concerns is called mycoplasma ovomemoniae, and it causes pneumonia.
12:41What we're trying to do is figure out who in the herd is still shedding this bacteria with bighorn sheep.
12:48It's a fairly small percentage of the herd that's causing that huge mortality in the lambs.
12:53It's really exciting to move animals and reestablish populations, and also to figure out what's going on disease-wise, and
13:01help improve the health of these populations.
13:14When you have a capture like this, and you're in charge of the health and safety of these animals, it's
13:19certainly a stressful situation.
13:22There's a lot of time and effort that goes into relocating and capturing animals, and we want to make sure
13:29that we get them back out of the landscape healthy.
13:48It's really great to see so many getting captured today.
13:51We've got a ram now, we've got some babies, we've got some good ewes, and they're all in really good
13:56health.
14:04You know, we've put sheep in a lot of places, but to be able to help a First Nation build
14:10from the ground up a program to manage sheep that their ancestors hunted is huge.
14:19The lake range is where they're heading. It's about a four-and-a-half-hour drive.
14:38Quentin Hesterly, Nevada Game Warden. How are you?
14:40I'm going to meet you. I won't step over by the truck.
14:44You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court
14:48of law.
14:48You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him present with you while you're being questioned.
14:54Now, you aren't under arrest or anything. Are you still willing to talk with us?
14:58Yes.
14:58Okay. So, from our records, you had a tag, right?
15:02Yes.
15:03In Area 6?
15:03Yeah.
15:04How many were in the party?
15:05Two.
15:06Two? Who else was in it?
15:10Were you guys successful, man?
15:12I was.
15:12Yeah.
15:13After hearing this guy's voice, this is a guy that was involved with Search and Rescue in Elko County.
15:22His friend had passed away on this hunt. I was a part of the Search and Rescue. We had to
15:27haul his friend's body off the mountain.
15:30Last evening, the third day, I went up the canyon.
15:33Here was a big boy with a doe.
15:35Shot of him. He went over the ridge. I didn't go.
15:38So, I huffed it up there. And then I go over a ridge. And there they are.
15:43So, then I shot him. I was about six inches off, but I still got him.
15:47When I looked away, I looked up and he was gone.
15:50Nothing happened.
15:50Yeah.
15:51You ended up finding it later. How long later?
15:55Next morning, around 10 a.m.
15:56Around 10?
15:57Yeah.
15:58Okay.
15:59Hang on one second. I got to talk to him.
16:04This is the guy. He's with the guy that died that I pulled off the mountain. I just wanted you
16:10to know that.
16:10Okay.
16:11Okay.
16:12Okay.
16:17So, my partner here made a connection that, obviously, a tragedy happened up on the hill.
16:24Your partner ended up passing away up on the hill.
16:27Okay.
16:27I didn't connect the dots until I saw your face. I heard your voice. And you mentioned his name. I'm
16:34like, I spoke with you before.
16:36You found the deer after. You kind of lost him then?
16:39I found the deer. I mean, oh, the radio.
16:43I got him now. Where are you?
16:46He goes, I'm not making any progress.
16:49My legs are weak, and I'm really dehydrated. So, I went and got the drinks. I went up to where
16:57he breathed the knee down.
16:58And I went around the ridge, you know, on their side, looking.
17:04I called the sheriff's department.
17:11And I went to the dump, and I dumped off the deer, and then I washed off the blood. I
17:18looked back in my truck.
17:20I felt, you know, like I was a traveler.
17:24Well, I want to extend my sympathies for losing a hunting partner. I mean, it's hard. I understand that.
17:30But the reason for the contact today is the deer at the dump.
17:35Did you give any thought of possibly trying to get that to a processor to possibly donate it because you
17:40wanted to get rid of it?
17:41Yeah. I thought, what are my chances of dropping it off at, like, St. Vincent's or any place?
17:47What about locally in Elko?
17:49Well, what charity would accept a deer in Elko?
17:52So, there are a couple. It comes down to the wanton waste of the deer, okay?
17:57That's the whole point of me coming to Reno today.
17:59I'm originally out of Elko, same thing with Jason.
18:02That's a pretty big issue. I understand life events. We have an officer that was involved.
18:07But we still have to do our job.
18:08Yeah.
18:09Understandably, right? And that's, like Clint said, that's why we're here, you know?
18:13Well, I realize that, but I am, you know, I was under stress.
18:18I get it.
18:19When I called the wife, they said, according to Native American tradition, this is a death deer.
18:26Do not eat it. Do not eat that deer.
18:39When I called the wife, they said, according to Native American tradition, this is a death deer.
18:47Do not eat that deer.
18:51And I'm on the phone, okay, okay, I won't eat the deer.
18:56His friend was a Native American, and his wife is saying, this deer is now cursed, and you should not
19:02eat it.
19:03You should not even have it in your house.
19:04And come to find out, this is the reason why that his deer wound up in Elko County landfill.
19:11So that swayed your decision on what you ultimately did with the deer the next day?
19:15I never got to the point where I made some phone calls to see, hey, soup kitchen, do you want
19:23to accept the deer as a donation?
19:26And there was that dump, and I wanted to get back home.
19:31And so I went to the dump right there on the sign and said, animals, just report that you have
19:37one, and they're good to go.
19:38Pretty much, and so $15, okay, $15.
19:43And so I dumped it off, and I was there because I was told to not eat that deer.
19:52So, Paul, I would like to have you write me a statement of basically just kind of the story of
20:00the deer, of how you harvested it, your buddy passing, and then how you came to your decision to take
20:07it to the dump.
20:10While you do that, I'm going to talk with Jason, and we're going to come up with what we would
20:14like to do.
20:16We'll leave you to it for a little bit.
20:17We'll be nearby.
20:23So, there's a curveball.
20:28I don't know what to tell you.
20:30You don't have to write a ticket right now.
20:32Yeah.
20:33You don't have to write a ticket ever, but is it fair to the other sports?
20:38That's kind of where I'm going with it.
20:50My name is Chris Walther, game warden.
20:53Being a game warden in Clark County, which is the county Las Vegas is in, as game wardens, we are
20:58state police officers, and we deal with every other crime not related to hunting, fishing, and boating.
21:03Lake Mead is so close to the city of Las Vegas.
21:06Not only do we deal with the local boating traffic, but also we deal with a lot of tourism traffic
21:11out here, where they just don't have an idea of what recreational boating laws are.
21:18How are we doing, folks?
21:19Not good.
21:20Don't fish.
21:20State game warden.
21:21I'll come around and check a fishing license where there's a few less poles on that side.
21:30So, no luck today, huh?
21:31No.
21:32How can that be?
21:33There's fish everywhere.
21:35I'm trying to catch a catfish right now.
21:38Is that good?
21:38I got some.
21:39Well, let's see.
21:40Yep, you're good.
21:42Is she fishing?
21:42No.
21:43Okay, how come we had five lines in the water?
21:47One more than I need, right?
21:48Well, we've got one, two, three, and we had two on this side.
21:51So, how many poles are you supposed to fish with?
21:53Okay.
21:54So, I got three in the water.
21:55Okay.
21:56I need to see your fishing license and his driver's license.
21:59Do you have it on your phone?
22:00Well, I have to download it.
22:02Okay, let me take a look at that real quick.
22:04Do you have your ID on you?
22:05Let me take a look at it, please.
22:08So, it's fine to have it on your phone,
22:10but once you get it downloaded, take a screenshot of it,
22:13so that way you can just bring it up fairly quickly.
22:15Okay.
22:15Can you take that for me?
22:18Reno 3411 Hatchery.
22:20Vessel contact, two 2729s.
22:23Nevada D.O.
22:24I got the license.
22:26Oh, you found it?
22:27Yeah.
22:27All right, be right over.
22:32He admitted he was fishing with three poles,
22:34so pretty compliant.
22:36No issues, but obviously,
22:38he received a citation for that.
22:42Mr. is yours?
22:45And Mr. .
22:46So, you know,
22:47you can only fish with two poles, correct?
22:48Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:49I'm not good at that.
22:53All right.
22:54And do me a favor.
22:55Don't throw your cigarette butt in the water,
22:56because that's littering.
22:57I know.
22:58I'll take it up.
22:58I'll take it up.
22:59Okay.
22:59I'll take it up.
23:00I'll take it up.
23:00Okay.
23:01Let me explain this to you, okay?
23:03One violation, using more than two poles.
23:05Total bail amount is 195.
23:07Just make sure you take care of it on it before that date,
23:08otherwise it'll go to Warton Estate, Nevada.
23:10Okay.
23:10Okay?
23:11Sign right there on the X for me.
23:15Okay.
23:16Appreciate it.
23:17Two poles.
23:18All right, guys.
23:19Enjoy the day.
23:35Four, two, four.
23:3634-11.
23:37I just came around Black Island.
23:39I've got three vehicles on the shoreline.
23:41No sign of anything yet at this point.
23:44Copy.
23:45You're seeing people at Crawford Headco.
23:47I haven't gone over there yet.
23:48I will shoot over to Crawdad and see what's over there.
23:53We just received a call from dispatch of shocks fired,
23:57potentially, possibly rifle shots,
23:59in the location of Boxcar, Crawdad Cove.
24:03So we're going to scope out a couple areas from the water,
24:06maybe direct the land units in,
24:08if we possibly have some sort of situation.
24:14As a law enforcement officer in this day and age,
24:17you're thinking active shooter,
24:19you're thinking multiple assailants,
24:21you're thinking how many injured.
24:22My thought process is getting on scene,
24:25interviewing any witnesses,
24:26finding out if they saw anything suspicious.
24:30Is there any individuals at that SUV?
24:36I'm going to glass it real quick.
24:413-4-11, I'll be on tack with one individual.
24:45How are you doing, sir?
24:47What's going on?
24:49How many people in the vehicle?
24:52Okay, any weapons or drugs in the vehicle?
24:54Okay, you just out here camping?
24:56Okay, do you have your ID on you?
24:57Yes, sir, I do.
24:59Yeah, I'm harping.
25:01Oh, yeah, we got a couple calls in the area.
25:03We're just trying to exhaust all resources on them.
25:06How many dogs you got?
25:07Holy cow.
25:09Three guns.
25:10All in that vehicle?
25:11Sure.
25:12Jeepers.
25:14All right, just hang tight for me real quick.
25:16Reno 34, look.
25:18Oh, ****.
25:20Oregon ID card.
25:24You guys happen to hear any gunshots?
25:26Uh, I heard something earlier
25:28kind of similar to a guy, an explosion.
25:32That way approximately 15 minutes ago.
25:36I didn't know a gunshot.
25:37Okay.
25:38It's a possibility of a board.
25:40Okay.
25:47Let's be careful, all right?
25:49Yes, sir.
25:49Take care of yourself.
25:50All right, thank you.
25:56Yeah, I'm, uh, report 30 minutes ago.
25:5910-4, there's, uh, two or three more parties to the south.
26:02I'll check.
26:06There would be no legal reason as to why someone would be discharging a firearm at Lake Mead.
26:11Um, it's a no-shooting area with all the beaches, all the traffic, the congestion.
26:16Obviously, it's very unsafe to discharge a firearm.
26:19How we doing, folks?
26:20You just camping out for the night?
26:22Yeah, we're good.
26:23Okay.
26:24You guys happen to hear any gunshots or anything?
26:25Yeah.
26:26They shoot about 10 rails off, and then it will stop for about two hours, and then go off again.
26:32But they were doing it throughout the night.
26:33Does it sound like, uh, like a high-powered rifle, or sound like a pistol, or?
26:37No, like, hang up.
26:38Hang down.
26:39All right, appreciate your time, guys.
26:44Contacting another party.
26:45Confirmed hearing shots throughout the night about 30 minutes ago.
26:49There was one dark-colored SUV.
26:51It was parked over here in Boxcar that is now gone.
26:54I'm able to have to choke off on people when I try to fly down on the Black Sporting Audition.
27:00Does that match your description?
27:02Affirmed, um, and it was parked adjacent to, uh, where I'm at right now.
27:07There is a party camped up underneath the rocks.
27:10Probably associated with that SUV that left.
27:13Copy, am I-12 right there, or off to my own?
27:17About to your 11 o'clock, um, up underneath this, uh, bluff.
27:31How you doing, ma'am?
27:39There is a party camped up underneath the rocks.
27:42It's probably associated with that SUV that left.
27:47How you doing, ma'am?
27:49Habla ingles?
27:51Donde esta su pesmosa?
27:55He left?
28:09Kind of a language barrier here, so it's difficult to decide for what exactly is going down.
28:14Can you read this right here?
28:17Uh, donde se disparo la pistola?
28:19Right here?
28:21Aquí?
28:22No, aquí y aquí.
28:23The rubber there?
28:24Okay.
28:25Cuando estaba disparando?
28:28La mañana.
28:29Uh, in the morning?
28:30Uh, donde fueran ellos?
28:34Dishing?
28:41Well, he's got to be coming back.
28:44I mean, who knows?
28:45Maybe they went to get more ammunition.
28:55So, you don't have to rightly take it right now.
28:57But is it fair to the other sportsmen?
29:00That's kind of where I'm going with it.
29:02Christy's right in there.
29:03If you would like to talk with her, I would suggest that.
29:06I think I will talk to Christy.
29:09Hey, Christy, this is Jason.
29:10Hey, Jason.
29:11Can we borrow you for, like, maybe, like, 10 minutes out here in the parking lot?
29:15We got something to run by you.
29:17Okay, I'm going to go.
29:18Thank you, ma'am.
29:22Christy Knight, she is the Western Region Lieutenant, and she's the closest supervisor that I have
29:26to be able to run the intricacies of this particular situation past her.
29:32We ended up killing a buck, cleaned it out.
29:35He ended up taking it to Elko Sanitation, to the dump, and leaving it there with his tag.
29:41So, one way's case.
29:43The moral dilemma that I'm struggling with is during all that, his partner died, and he was dealing with the
29:50cremation process.
29:51I'll let you do so.
29:53As far as sighting this guy, it's just a little bit more of a dilemma of, at what point do
29:59we allow some lenient seal?
30:01Is there a reason he didn't contact us?
30:04Not that I'm aware, being that there was a game warden involved in the situation.
30:07Under a lot of distress at that time.
30:09Yeah.
30:10There are other things on the game side.
30:12How do you feel about the want and waste of not the big game, but the just game man?
30:17I'm fine with that.
30:20I think that's what's going on here and everything that might have come up.
30:24And obviously, we came to meet with you.
30:26We wanted to make a difference.
30:28Yeah.
30:29So, I would go to the place that didn't happen.
30:31I think that fits.
30:37Whenever you get to a stopping point, Paul, I'd like to speak with you a minute.
30:40Okay.
30:41So, I completely sympathize with you, with your hunting partner passing, and everything you had going on that day.
30:49I just spoke with the lieutenant to give me some better frame of mind.
30:54But like Jason said, we still have a job to do.
30:57And it comes down to the fact that there was a deer that was wasted.
31:01I understand that being a death deer in some realms, unfortunately, the law doesn't see it that way.
31:07And I still have to do my job.
31:08There was a couple options that we had.
31:10And you'll be receiving a citation today.
31:12It's a simple misdemeanor citation.
31:14Okay?
31:15But rather than going with the big game, wanton waste, which it comes with a 12 demerit violation,
31:23which then you would lose your hunting privileges for three years.
31:26What I'm going to cite you for is the waste of game, not big game, which brings it down in
31:31demerits and allows you to still be able to hunt.
31:35We addressed the issue of losing the deer.
31:37But also, I am completely sympathetic on the situation you were in.
31:41You were under a lot of stress.
31:44But essentially, you were working with the game warden at one point.
31:47You could have easily asked Jason, hey, I don't want this deer.
31:51What can I do with it legally?
31:53So if you don't mind, do you have your driver's license on you?
31:57I'm going to go ahead and knock that out while you finish your statement.
32:00Any questions from me so far?
32:02Okay.
32:03Thank you, Paul.
32:07In this particular situation, it's not as black and white as you're going five miles over the speed limit.
32:12Here's your ticket.
32:13The reason why I can't just let this one go is he had been in contact with Jason.
32:19That would have gladly helped him through the process of how to get rid of that deer appropriately.
32:26I definitely have to hold myself to the standard that the state would expect from me.
32:31I'm going to get to see you again next year.
32:33Hopefully if you draw some tags again.
32:36Yeah.
32:37See, my daughter, he's 11, so she'd like to take a hunter's safety quarter.
32:41Really?
32:44So your information is up top.
32:46What I'm signing you for is the needless ways to gain.
32:49It does come with nine demerits like we talked about.
32:51So you're kind of high with the nine demerits.
32:54You can take a hunter's safety class if you wanted to, and they would knock off three.
33:00So a suggestion, Paul, you said your daughter's 11.
33:02She can take the hunter's safety course at any time.
33:04You can take it along with her.
33:06Like Quinn said, you can get some of your demerit points reduced.
33:09And then it would help your daughter.
33:11So what I need from you is just a signature at the bottom.
33:14It's not an admission deal.
33:15It's just a promise to take care of the ticket.
33:18We don't want to deter anyone from hunting unless they're doing it completely wrong.
33:23I don't think that's your case.
33:24It was a terrible situation.
33:26I mean, I could have made most of the opportunity to call Jason.
33:32He gave me his business card.
33:34That morning, I had it in front of me.
33:36I didn't call him.
33:37Yeah.
33:38And unfortunately, that's going to cost you a bit.
33:40But I know from this point on, you aren't going to hesitate to call him anymore, right?
33:44You get presented that again, you know exactly what you need to do.
33:49So in a similar situation where you're presented with, do I need to call or not, go ahead and
33:55make that phone call.
33:56It could save you a lot of headache down the road.
33:58Yeah.
33:59You've been great today.
34:00I appreciate you coming in and meeting with us.
34:02Are there any other questions for Jason or him?
34:04No questions.
34:04No questions.
34:05Perfect.
34:05All right.
34:06I appreciate it, sir.
34:07Thank you for meeting with us.
34:08Paul, it was a pleasure to see you again.
34:10Thanks, Jason.
34:13How do you feel about that?
34:15Not the greatest, but like you were saying, the best outcome for doing what we need to
34:21do, but also being sympathetic to the situation with him.
34:25It's always that balance, right?
34:27It would have been hard for me to write the same thing that you just wrote because I was
34:30more into it.
34:30You were more in it.
34:32Yeah, than you were.
34:34So there's a back story to everything.
34:45There is a party camped up underneath the rocks, probably associated with that SUV that
34:50left.
34:52How you doing, ma'am?
34:55Habla anglaise?
35:05We think that this is the party that is discharging the firearm.
35:09It sounds like two male individuals had left.
35:13In communicating with the female, she did confirm the fact that they did have a handgun in the
35:18car.
35:18Can you read this right here?
35:21Don't they say disparo la pistola?
35:24Right here?
35:25Kind of a language barrier here, so it's difficult to decipher what exactly is going down.
35:30We have a target.
35:31You have a target?
35:33Any casings?
35:34Here we go.
35:35Okay.
35:39With the number of people that come out here and recreate, camp, boat, fish, you never
35:43know where that round is going to go, what it's going to ricochet off of.
35:48So National Park Service has designated some areas that are no shooting.
35:52And obviously anywhere in the water where there's people recreating, it's no shooting.
35:57Hit it once.
35:58That's all it took.
35:59Yeah.
36:00That's all it took, man.
36:04Looking forward.
36:05That's actually heading back up.
36:07The suspect vehicle that we were looking for has returned back to that location.
36:14So we'll just hang, make sure that everything's going to be code four with those guys.
36:30Who's done?
36:32Whose is it?
36:33Yours or yours?
36:37Yours?
36:39My green card.
36:41Okay.
36:44Spires, 4, 6, 28.
36:47Yeah.
36:47Yeah.
36:48Good to go.
36:49Do you guys have discharge fire on him and discharge and part of shooting?
36:5499 for him?
36:55Okay.
36:56Okay.
37:01Both individuals had resident cards, so they were legally allowed to be here.
37:06The gun was clear.
37:07The older individual does have a warrant out of North Las Vegas for a traffic violation.
37:12It sounds like North Las Vegas is going to confirm the warrant, so they'll transport the
37:16one individual.
37:17He'll go to jail tonight.
37:19Did you guys do any fishing with the caña?
37:21No.
37:23Somebody feeding the fish.
37:26Do you have a fishing license?
37:28No.
37:30Whose pole is in the back?
37:31Who's caña?
37:32Well, it doesn't work.
37:34Doesn't work?
37:35No.
37:36All right.
37:37Well, then I'm out of here.
37:38Yeah.
37:38Hasta luego.
37:42I mean, those guys were shooting off that cliff into the water, and, I mean, 9mm round can
37:48travel pretty far, so who knows if there's a guy fishing over on the shore, could get killed.
37:52So, obviously, it's a safety issue, public safety issue.
37:56Park Service is going to cite them for discharge of firearm in National Park, no shooting area,
38:02and then, obviously, target shooting.
38:04It's a little bit easier to see things from the water out here than it is on land, especially
38:09with all the roads and canyons they've got to go through.
38:11It's just a good example of collaboration with two different agencies working together.
38:17Ring on 34, London, code 4, I'll be clear, 10-8 on the water.
38:40Right now, we're headed out to the Lake Range, just east of Pyramid Lake.
38:46I'm leading the convoy out there to release the sheep.
38:51Today, we got 22.
38:53They're happy.
38:54They're healthy.
38:55We got several ewes that were pregnant, six of them, which got vaginal implant transmitters,
39:00and we'll be able to see exactly where those six females are having babies this spring and
39:06see what habitat is best for raising their lambs.
39:12So, we're coming up on the pyramid now.
39:17Speaking as a biologist that works for the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, I think that this
39:22is a very exciting moment that every member of the Paiute Tribe should be proud of, and
39:27really a moment that every Nevadan should be proud of, where we can come together as a
39:32state agency and as a tribal entity to really celebrate the reintroduction of the species
39:39on tribal lands.
39:40This is really the history of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe happening right now.
39:47I want to welcome everybody here today.
39:50You know, it's been a lot of years since this started, and each and every one of you here,
39:54you know, you're all part of this.
39:55When it's just like I was telling my grandson today, I said, you're going to be able to
39:59tell your grandkids what you helped out with up here, that you bring all this back.
40:05With that, I'm going to go ahead and say a prayer here for these sheep.
40:11Grandfather, I ask good things for these sheep today.
40:23You know, I ask that they survive, you know, thrive in this mountain range again like they
40:29used to years and years ago.
40:32I ask that you take care of them in a good way, help them back on their way home.
40:41You know, I ask that blessing for these sheep.
40:50We are very fortunate to have our sheep, our fish, our land, and our water.
40:56I'm very blessed.
40:58I feel very blessed.
41:02Getting, like, an animal, like a whole animal back, it's like adding more voice to our culture
41:08and to who we are as people.
41:11I want to speak just about it because I'm very proud to be Native American, and I think
41:15it's just a great thing that we have another ancient animal with us.
41:31And so, I hope that we don't have to be сами.
41:33What's going on, what's going on?
41:36What's going on, hopefully we'll see you next year?
