02:47future episode.
02:48Tonight, jumping into the day's news and rumors, got to start with this.
02:52WWE, this is like season five where they have done these biography episodes about various superstars throughout the years.
02:59And most recently, they did one on the Road Warriors, Hawk Animal, the Legion of Doom, one of the most,
03:05if not the most, legendary tag team in the history of professional wrestling.
03:08And Road Warrior Animal's widow is very frustrated. She's disgusted by it.
03:13And look, I think sometimes some people are too close to a situation to objectively look at it.
03:18Apparently, they reported some of the events surrounding his pass, Road Warrior Animal's passing erroneously, claiming that he was at
03:26a hospital, which she claims never happened.
03:28It was in a hotel room, talking about how he was transported straight from the hotel room to the morgue
03:33and whatnot.
03:35Really specific stuff, but certainly stuff that frustrates her enough that she felt the need to speak out, talk about
03:41how frustrated she is at the production of this, and how she was not even interviewed.
03:46His previous relationships were, his daughter was, but she was not approaching.
03:50She's the one who was there with him through the end.
03:53And look, I get it, you know, when someone passes in anybody's family, you're always going to be super, super
03:57sensitive to that, and I can respect that completely.
04:01I do think, though, when you go back and look at it, there was a lot of really good stuff
04:04in the show.
04:05They covered a lot of ground, covered a lot of territory.
04:08In an abbreviated amount of time, I would encourage you, if you wanted, to get a better look at the
04:13Road Warriors.
04:13Go back and watch the multiple DVD set that they did a few years back that was amazing.
04:19That, to me, much more all-encompassing.
04:22Animal was still alive at the time and was able to contribute to that show.
04:25Really go through everything Hawk went through and basically finding his path.
04:30You know, he had some demons in his lifetime, well-documented by many wrestlers.
04:34And how he found his way back and found a positive experience towards the end of his life, reconciled with
04:40Vince McMahon, things like that.
04:42And that, to me, is a much, much better representation of the Legion of Doom.
04:47This is something made for television and deal they have with A&E, the documentary.
04:51I mean, it's not bad.
04:51It really isn't.
04:53But, again, she has some things that she's frustrated with, some inconsistencies based on reality.
04:58And, you know, you've got to give her that.
05:00You know, she's the one who was with him until the end.
05:01So, putting that out there, let's jump into some other stuff.
05:04The big news coming out of the weekend, Ronda Rousey, Gina Carano, they had their mixed martial arts fight for
05:09MVP promotions.
05:10And, look, I don't know what people were expecting, but let's be honest.
05:14If you look, and Shayna Baszler spoke to this earlier today on social media.
05:19If you look back at Ronda Rousey's career, nine of her wins are in under a minute.
05:24What did you expect?
05:25She wins her fight in 17 seconds, and people are somehow upset about this.
05:30Were you upset 10 years ago when she was topping people in 14 seconds, 19 seconds, 30 seconds?
05:36Nobody was upset then because that was what you were paying for.
05:40That should have been what you were paying for here.
05:42Here is a legendary fighter going in there with another legendary fighter.
05:46And one who is, let's be honest, Gina Carano, a lot older than Ronda Rousey, about seven years older.
05:50So, there's definitely some ring rust or cage rust or whatever you want to call it.
05:55Rousey was on her game.
05:56She came out, and if you watched it, even a little bit, that 17 seconds, for a moment,
06:02Gina Carano actually almost got her in a submission hold.
06:05She had the front face lock on.
06:08It looked like she actually had a legitimate chance to choke her out, but she slipped out, put her into
06:12the arm bar.
06:13And what is she supposed to do?
06:14Let her arm break backwards?
06:15If you look at it, it looked pretty devastating to begin with.
06:18I thought the angle was incredible.
06:20So, I had no problem with the fight.
06:22And I love that they have so much respect for each other and were able to really bond over this
06:27fight.
06:27And hopefully, obviously, Ronda Rousey is saying she's done.
06:30She's going to go have more babies.
06:32Carano, not so much.
06:33Not closing the door completely.
06:35She's talking about how she wanted to get some more stuff out.
06:38Maybe there's something in the works for her in the future.
06:39We'll have to wait and see.
06:41Speaking of TKO and boxing and MMA and all that kind of fun stuff,
06:46one of the conversations is always about their promotion and how they hype things up.
06:50And it came out, Mark Shapiro, the TKO president, addressed conversations surrounding ticket prices,
06:58WrestleMania 42, and he actually admitted that they may have miscalculated moving the event from New Orleans
07:04to Las Vegas for a second straight year.
07:07He didn't take into account all the things going on in the world and all that kind of stuff.
07:11And he really, it was interesting to see that he was willing to concede the point that they may have
07:15miscalculated
07:16and actually cost himself.
07:17Now, they still had a record gate, but it wasn't a sellout the way a traditional sellout would be for
07:22WWE,
07:23certainly for WrestleMania.
07:25So I guess there's definitely room for them to recalibrate and figure things out going forward.
07:29But at the end of the day, this could have been better had they potentially stayed where they had announced
07:35previously,
07:36when, if you remember, The Rock announced that, you know, a year prior,
07:39and then they made the greedy move because they did so well in Las Vegas to bring it right back
07:42to Vegas.
07:42Bad idea.
07:43Last time they did that was in Trump Plaza when they did WrestleMania 4 and 5,
07:46and the world was a different place back then, you know, and tourism's down in Las Vegas year on year.
07:51So, like, there was a lot of reasons this didn't work out,
07:53and it was nice to see that they had a little bit of humility
07:56and admitted that they maybe screwed up just a little bit.
07:59In terms of TKO, another conversation piece is with Kevin Nash,
08:03speaking out heavily about the need for a union,
08:06being frustrated with the layoffs and the cuts and things like that.
08:09And he actually identified this week where the term that I saw on Wrestling Inc.
08:15was the point of no return.
08:17He was talking about, like, all the issues he's having with TKO and the hierarchy on his Click This podcast.
08:23And basically what it boils down to is, is Triple H.
08:26If they go at Triple H, if they remove him from power, if they screw with him too much,
08:30that would be the defining moment for him.
08:33He said, if something happens and Triple H is no longer at the helm through some kind of power play,
08:38I hope you would follow my lead because the minute they F with him,
08:42I'll have nothing to do with the product for the rest of my life.
08:44That's what he said.
08:45And I love his loyalty to Triple H.
08:47I think, obviously, he's proud of everything Triple H has done.
08:50And I think it's awesome that Triple H is willing to allow him to have the perspective he has,
08:56union and otherwise, and still maintain that great relationship
08:59because that's always, like, been a no-no in WWE to talk about those types of things.
09:01But I think that's a great, great thing.
09:04TKO stays in the news in the next conversation piece
09:06because Karrion Kross and Scarlett were just having a conversation
09:10about whether or not they would return to WWE or go to AEW.
09:14He is the MLW World Heavyweight Champion right now.
09:17But they were doing an interview, and basically they were talking to Devon Dudley on his show.
09:24If you haven't seen that, check that out.
09:26He's got a great show.
09:27But they said, you know, never say never.
09:28They talked about, in terms of WWE, that they love the locker room.
09:31They miss the writers.
09:32They miss the producers.
09:33They miss them.
09:34And it says, we blame TKO for our deal not getting done.
09:37So if they decide to fix things, maybe.
09:39If they decide to call one day, maybe.
09:41Never close the door on dialogue.
09:43And it's beautiful to see that it's not an issue with WWE.
09:47It's an issue with TKO.
09:49Notice the common theme.
09:51TKO has never been in the wrestling business before.
09:54Now they are for the first time.
09:55And they are dropping the ball with a lot of things.
09:57I think they missed the hot button thing with Karrion Kross.
10:00You know, I get it.
10:02He left, and he's fizzled a little bit in terms of global popularity.
10:05But if you came back to WWE, he'd be over like Rover right away.
10:09Speaking of coming back to WWE and being over, Baron Corbin is in the news because there's conversations about him
10:14coming back for a return.
10:15He was released in 2024.
10:17Dave Meltzer claims that he heard rumblings of Corbin signing with WWE.
10:22Fightful Select is reporting that there is a potential return.
10:25It has been internally discussed.
10:27Nothing official yet.
10:28But he is another person who, let's be honest, he's one of the rare people who's beat Roman Reigns.
10:33He's had some great storylines.
10:35I think they could do a lot more with him.
10:36They just have to cultivate him correctly and put him in there with the right guys.
10:41One of those guys, former rival Randy Orton, also in the news.
10:44See, we're just booming him out today.
10:46Randy Orton in the news because he has not been back on television since WrestleMania.
10:49And he's explained, everybody talked about how he's a serious back injury.
10:53That was reported earlier in the week.
10:55Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer talking about his back injury.
10:58He said, no, I'm just milking it, guys.
11:00Leave me alone.
11:00I'm trying to enjoy my summer before I come back and take that number 15.
11:04Sounds like he's just taking some time off.
11:06This does happen all the time.
11:07Meltzer was claiming that his back was the reason they didn't give him the championship at the show.
11:11I don't know if I buy that.
11:13I really don't.
11:13I think Randy Orton's usually been pretty straightforward with the fans.
11:16If he says that's what he's doing is just taking some time, he's probably just taking some time.
11:22All the stage talk in the back of WWE, there's too much that comes out that doesn't get validated.
11:27People put too much teeth behind these rumors that go out there.
11:32And I love that Randy Orton cuts that off.
11:34One of the other things going on backstage WWE right now is rumors that they do not believe,
11:38many people backstage WWE do not believe that AEW is going to get their next media rights distribution deal done
11:44because of the rumors circulating about the Paramount acquisition of the channel and the network and whatnot.
11:51And there is some concern that when Warner Brothers, Discovery, and Paramount have their merger that hasn't closed yet,
11:57based on the timing, that AEW could be left without a broadcast home.
12:00Now, I don't see that happening.
12:01They are too popular, drawing very solid numbers.
12:04I don't see any way they go out of business.
12:07And Tony Khan's got limitless cash.
12:09Let's be honest.
12:09He really does.
12:10He's done a great job, especially lately.
12:12So I don't see them going away.
12:13But there's definitely some conversation.
12:15Meltzer also, again, reporting that WWE higher-ups are telling people they don't expect that AEW to get an extension.
12:22Now, at the same time, WWE does this kind of thing, talks to their talent, tries to deceive their talent
12:27into thinking that
12:28AEW's in worse shape than they actually are so that they won't go sign with them and things like that.
12:32I don't see that happening.
12:33AEW is hot as it's ever been right now.
12:36They're doing great business, great storylines, really compelling stuff.
12:40And they're starting to cultivate a lot of new stars, which is wonderful.
12:43That's something you always want to see.
12:44So I expect them to be around for quite a long time.
12:47In AEW, also, Tony Schiavone in the news.
12:49He credited Ted Turner for his entire career and made it very clear he thinks that Ted Turner belongs in
12:55the WWE Hall of Fame,
12:57which I find interesting that an AEW announcer is openly talking about the WWE Hall of Fame.
13:02But I love that he gave him that credit, that status.
13:07And let's be honest, I agree with him completely.
13:09The guy changed the business through his effort and his desire to compete on an international level with WWE,
13:14something nobody really has ever done other than him, and that's phenomenal.
13:18Now, I'm not saying the NWA wasn't global when they were, but their distribution was not done in the same
13:24model that WWE was.
13:25Certainly didn't have the reach, the merchandising, the television distribution, all that kind of stuff.
13:29They were an international organization that was basically followed by all the wrestling fans, not by the outsiders.
13:34This WWE is mainstream, and so we've never had anybody other than WCW challenge that.
13:40So absolutely Hall of Fame worthy.
13:42I agree.
13:43I couldn't agree more.
13:44Cain Velasquez in the news.
13:46We know that he was acquitted of attempted murder charges.
13:50He's out from jail.
13:52He got out early, all that kind of stuff.
13:53And then their conversation was, he would be back in AAA performing Lucha Libre-style wrestling all over again if
13:59WWE had not purchased AAA.
14:02The original ownership of AAA would be more than happy to have him back.
14:08They're high on him.
14:09You know, Conan, the booker there, has always been very high on him.
14:12The word is if Dorian was still in charge of the company, that he would have him back already.
14:16But WWE, they split on not-so-great terms after that one flop of a match against Brock Lesnar in
14:21Saudi Arabia a few years back.
14:23And especially since they're taking over AAA, they have all these different ideas that they're putting in place.
14:28He's just not a part of that discussion or anything to do with the plans that they have.
14:32So it's kind of a shame because he's not going to go to CMLL.
14:34They don't pay enough.
14:35That's the word Dave Meltzer put out there is that they don't pay enough.
14:38He certainly would if they would pay enough.
14:40And he may do it just for the fun of it because he really does love Lucha Libre.
14:44But right now, nothing in the works for Cain Velasquez, even though really after being acquitted,
14:50and if you look at all the terms of what happened, it's justifiable, really deserves an opportunity to perform.
14:56And I don't think that's going to happen.
14:57Certainly not mixed martial arts at this point.
14:59He's well past the prime there.
15:01Maybe with an MVP promotions type of thing like they did this past week with Junior Dos Santos who got
15:05knocked out.
15:06But I don't know.
15:07We'll have to wait and see.
15:08And got to close on this.
15:10EO Sky in the news with Evil.
15:12Evil, the two are the newest newlyweds in the pro wrestling world.
15:15Congratulations to EO Sky and Evil, new NXT superstar, for tying the knot.
15:21They've been together for so long.
15:22And that's been the conversation for quite a few years is whether or not he would come to WWE to
15:26be with his someday to be bride.
15:28And now it is official.
15:29The two have gotten married.
15:30And it is a beautiful thing.
15:32The pictures are online.
15:33They look adorable.
15:34Like what a perfect couple.
15:35They really, you could tell when people are super happy.
15:38They just, they look genuinely thrilled in the pictures.
15:41And Evil, not trying to knock on Evil, does not typically look like that.
15:45He looks incredibly happy.
15:47Congratulations to the newlyweds.
15:48It is a beautiful thing.
15:50That's all the time we have for this episode.
