03:00Fro Wrestling, sound offline, 267-642-1160, and we will get to those questions either during this show or in a future episode.
03:07So, got a lot to get to.
03:08I hope everybody had the opportunity to go back and watch Clash in Paris over the weekend.
03:12I actually thought, for a five-match show, not terrible.
03:16I think the Wyatt 6th match, the tag team championship match, that probably could have waited for an episode of SmackDown.
03:21Really didn't need to be there.
03:22I thought, coming off of three matches previously between Rusev and Sheamus, I thought it was going to be like a slow burn.
03:29It really wasn't.
03:30Again, they're always hard-hitting and volatile, but some of the spots in here were just amazing.
03:35The accolade on top of the barrels, all that kind of stuff.
03:38I saw memes online talking about how that would be the new Cracker Bauer logo.
03:41Not trying to get political here, but it would make a better logo than the crap they were trying to put out there.
03:45And even the stuff with Roman Reigns, Bronson Reed, solid match.
03:49Really got Bronson over, but also laid the groundwork for Roman Reigns to get injured, taken out.
03:55The word is, he's going away.
03:56He's going to film his portion of the Street Fighter movie where Cody, who's been filming currently.
04:01Oddly, there's talents from New Japan Pro Wrestling and everything are going to be in that film.
04:05So, he'll go off to do that for the next month.
04:07He'll be gone for the whole month of September, selling the injury from being laid out by Bronson Reed and Braun Strowman.
04:12Or, I said Braun Strowman, my goodness.
04:14Bronson Reed and Braun Breaker.
04:16And then when he comes back, I'm sure we'll head right into October, November, where we get right back on track.
04:21And, obviously, he'll have some revenge to go set up with Bronson Reed.
04:24And, of course, with Braun Breaker, who I think that match, for as much as we've talked previously about wanting to see Seth and Roman at Mania.
04:31Roman and Braun might be a bigger match right now.
04:35Just because Braun's getting over so, so well.
04:38Thought it was all solid.
04:39Then you get to the two big matches of the night.
04:40But the John Cena, Logan Paul, look, I've listened to some of the reaction online.
04:44I've listened to WrestleTalk.
04:46I've listened to what culture.
04:47I've listened to people on Busted Open.
04:51Kudos to Busted Open.
04:52They really gave a lot of credit to how well John performed.
04:55Denise Salcedo had a great analysis of the match.
04:58And I really believe that this was one of the best matches I've seen of John Cena, maybe in his entire career.
05:03Bringing in things that he doesn't typically do, all to pay homage to the different talents that he's not going to have the opportunity on this farewell tour to be able to work with.
05:11Like AJ Styles hitting that Styles Clash, hitting the Huracan Rada.
05:14Some people saying that that was a throwout to Rey Mysterio.
05:19Whatever.
05:19Don't care.
05:20It was still vintage Cena in a lot of spots.
05:23And really shocking Cena in many others.
05:26I thought it was a perfect match.
05:27And for Logan Paul, you can hate the guy's character all you want.
05:30And I've said it before.
05:31All that heinous crap he did in terms of the really heinous stuff.
05:35And I'm not going to go into details.
05:36Not my place.
05:36Go Wikipedia it if you want to find out.
05:38But that stuff is back when the dude's like 19 years old.
05:40Not justifying anything.
05:41I'm just saying.
05:4219 to like late 20s.
05:44There's a long time where you can learn a lot about yourself.
05:47He puts on a character in WWE.
05:49He's supposed to be hated in WWE.
05:51I don't know what his character is outside of the ring.
05:52I know he's now a married man.
05:53I know he has himself in his hands in a lot of different business ventures.
05:57I hope he's matured quite a bit.
05:59But I'm speaking just as a wrestling fan.
06:01That guy can go.
06:02That guy is as natural a talent as I've ever seen in a professional wrestling ring.
06:07And I want him to do more and more and more.
06:10I get it.
06:10He's only had like 20 some matches the whole time he's been wrestling.
06:13Well, you know what?
06:13He is wrestling as good as some of the longest tenured veterans in the business.
06:18Give that guy his roses.
06:19Doing a great job.
06:20The match was phenomenal.
06:21Of course, Cena came out the victor.
06:23It needed to happen.
06:24Though, I'll be honest.
06:26I had my apprehensions because I thought maybe Brock Lesnar shows up and cost him the match.
06:30Did not happen.
06:31We'll save that for Wrestlepalooza.
06:33Of course, the Becky Lynch match was probably, in a lot of ways, probably the letdown of the night
06:38because of some botched moves by Nikki Bella and things like that.
06:41The simple backslide roll-up.
06:43To be honest with you, I was sitting there thinking to myself,
06:45the last time I remember any major championship match ending with a backslide,
06:48and Shawn Michaels referenced this in one of the world-class championship wrestling DVD set years ago
06:56that you can now find on the network, on Peacock,
06:59where he talked about how Kerry Von Erich, when he won the NWA World Championship from Ric Flair,
07:03he won it with a backslide.
07:05That's kind of what I got, the feel I got from Becky Lynch winning with a backslide here.
07:08But still, it furthered the storyline.
07:10Got Becky out of that feud.
07:11Obviously, she took care of business with Nikki Bella.
07:14She could move on to bigger and better things.
07:15Leading into our main event, the fatal four-way for the World Heavyweight Championship.
07:19At no point did I think Jey Uso was winning because he got injured earlier in the night
07:23because he foolishly came out to help Roman Reigns, which he was told not to do.
07:26I never thought LA Knight had a legitimate chance,
07:28even though I would love to see him in the World Championship opportunity.
07:31I think he could run with it.
07:32I think he could do very well with it.
07:33I think they messed him up when they sent him to Saudi to face Roman Reigns way too early
07:37just because the Saudi Crown Prince wanted to do that.
07:39They have foregone years of a top star because they had to rush something
07:43because of a Saudi Crown Prince and all in the name of money.
07:45I never thought Punk was going to win because he just won recently
07:48and you need to have a longer build before he gets that thing back, if he even gets it back.
07:52So it left Seth as the only option.
07:54So as the match progressed, I actually started getting concerned that I was wrong.
07:58That Punk was going to win this thing until a masked person came out.
08:01It turned out to be Becky Lynch, which turns out to be the best thing that could have possibly happened.
08:05First off, very frustrated with Big E and Jackie Redman bringing up AJ Lee on commentary.
08:11Don't do that.
08:13Don't do that.
08:13It's like Bobby Heenan saying,
08:15whose side is he on when Hogan comes out at Bash at the Beach and turns and becomes a member of the NWO.
08:21Bad idea.
08:22Let people savor the whole moment.
08:24Let people soak it in.
08:25Let the people who don't even know who AJ Lee is just sit there and bask in the moment and let them be shocked
08:33if there is an AJ Lee involvement later on.
08:37We go to Raw, which of course, I'm not doing a full recap of Paris because it was a few days ago,
08:42but Raw was just yesterday.
08:43When we look at Raw, some interesting things going on.
08:46You start to show with the Jey Uso coming out, throwing down some heat.
08:49We'd love for them to move past all this.
08:52The Bronze versus Jey Uso and LA Knight just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
08:56Though at the end of the show, when that match does take place,
08:58I think it's obvious they're going towards the Bronze versus the Usos, which I'm fine with that.
09:04I just don't like how it was set up,
09:05and I don't like that we essentially sacrificed another week of doing nothing with LA Knight,
09:10and the guy is supremely talented.
09:13But obviously, you can see where they're going.
09:15So him coming out and having that whole talking piece at the beginning, time filler, I suppose.
09:19It's like the stereotypical Monday Night Raw episode, like half an hour of nonsense at the beginning.
09:24The tag team match, Kabuki Warriors against Judgment Day, solid match.
09:28I don't like that Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez are essentially being jobbed out at this point.
09:33They were tag team champions for all that time.
09:35Now they can't beat anybody, and quite frankly, Raquel Rodriguez deserves a more prime spot in the women's division.
09:41She's done everything you could possibly ask her to do.
09:43She performs very well.
09:45Had to be out for a short period of time because of a physical ailment she was dealing with,
09:48but otherwise has delivered every time she's in the ring.
09:51Why is she not pushed harder?
09:53She can handle the workload.
09:55Give it to her.
09:55In the meantime, Asuka and Kari Sane pick up the win.
09:59They clearly are looking towards a heel turn, at least for Asuka.
10:02Kari Sane looks like the one who's conflicted over all this,
10:05which I kind of like that layer to the story.
10:07We didn't get a lot of buildup about Bayley this week,
10:09which I thought they kind of dropped the ball there.
10:11We did get the announcement that it's going to be Stephanie Vecura and Io Sky for the Women's Championship at WrestlePalooza,
10:17which of course led to that backstage discussion between Io and the Kabuki Warriors.
10:22Again, still teasing that tension.
10:25Nikki Bella getting involved in them, telling her to leave,
10:28and Rhea claiming that Rhea is not friends with Io, and all that kind of stuff.
10:32If it's too much, it's too schoolyard, it's too, you know, too clicky for me.
10:40It just comes off as juvenile.
10:42So I wish they would either move forward with the turn and get it physical,
10:45but stop all the conversation.
10:47You're not her friend.
10:48You're not this.
10:48Just shut up.
10:49Get it done.
10:50The Finn Balor match with Dragon Lee with JD McDonough outside, solid match, but super fast.
10:56Nobody really got a huge advantage, which I think is a detriment to Finn Balor,
10:59because he's another supremely talented wrestler who could be at the top of the card.
11:03They just never push him that way.
11:05Of course he wins.
11:05I have no problem with that.
11:06But then getting himself and JD kicked out of the arena was very interesting
11:12because it sets something up for later on in the show.
11:15When they announced that the New Day was in a six-man match with Grayson Waller
11:18going against Penta and Partners, you really had that moment where you were like,
11:22here it comes.
11:23The reunion of the Lucha Bros, Rey, Phoenix, Andrade, they're going to come out right now.
11:27They're going to team with him, take out the New Day and Grayson Waller, and it didn't happen.
11:31The opportunity was staring you in the face.
11:33Didn't happen.
11:34Now that's fine.
11:35If you wanted to do it this way, you have the War Raiders take the pin,
11:39and you have the New Day pick up the win.
11:41That way you could bring in Phoenix and Andrade later.
11:45The way they did it here, they basically squashed the New Day and Grayson Waller.
11:49I don't even understand what they're doing with their characters.
11:51Terrible booking, in my opinion, because it's totally disrespectful of the incredible heel turn
11:56that the New Day had last year.
11:58We get to the Dominic Mysterio's AJ Styles match.
12:00This, again, it felt a lot like a squash match.
12:03Styles got very little in, and when he finally did build some momentum,
12:07we had El Grande Americano appear, which is clearly the Ludwig Kaiser version,
12:11which word is now on the internet that he's doing such a good job with it.
12:14There's a chance Chad Gable doesn't get the gimmick back when he comes back from injury
12:18because we're seeing such a great performance now.
12:21Have to wait and see how that happens.
12:22Mysterio picks up the winner, retains the championship.
12:24He'll probably move past AJ at this point, which is kind of a shame
12:28because AJ, this is the last full year probably of his wrestling career full-time,
12:32so it would have been nice to see more and give him that opportunity.
12:35CM Punk calling out Seth Rollins in the show to be interrupted with Seth's music.
12:40Everybody was waiting for Seth to walk out.
12:42They're singing along.
12:42Becky Lynch comes out instead, talking up her husband,
12:46talking about what Punk cost her when he walked out of the company,
12:49which is absolutely ludicrous.
12:51If you go back in time, she was barely wrestling when he left the company,
12:54and she certainly wasn't an established megastar like she is now,
12:58so he didn't really cost her anything, but whatever.
13:02That's her perspective, at least for this storyline.
13:04But it is very obvious.
13:05Obviously, we get Seth to come out eventually.
13:08He doesn't come to the ring.
13:09And the way Becky talks down to Punk and slaps him around,
13:14and he makes it clear that he's going to get his hands on Seth,
13:17and he's going to regret it as well.
13:21It's obvious, especially on the heels of the Big E and Jackie Redman comment,
13:25that they are talking about AJ Lee returning.
13:29I already talked about Jey Uso, LA Knight, Braun Breaker, Bronson Reed,
13:32and how that purposely was there just to reunite the Usos to go against the Brons.
13:36I'm not going to cover that again.
13:37I want to stick on the CM Punk Becky Lynch thing.
13:39I thought Becky Lynch's promo was one of the best of the entire year.
13:42I thought it was fantastic.
13:43And that's kind of the general consensus I'm hearing across the Internet,
13:45all the different shows that I listen to, and hopefully you listen to as well.
13:49Everybody seems to think that this was one of her best promos,
13:51or WWE's best promos of the year.
13:53Great stuff, solid stuff.
13:55The thing is, the word backstage is they are absolutely working towards an AJ Lee return.
14:02There are reports coming out from both Fightful Select reporting that it is on for Wrestlepalooza.
14:09They've been having creative conversations.
14:10Brian Alvarez of F4W Online also reported Tuesday that WWE's planning the match.
14:15Fightful reported over the weekend there's been pitches internally for AJ Lee to return for quite a while.
14:20It was implied on Raw.
14:21Punk saying stuff to general manager Adam Pearce about where is SmackDown on Friday,
14:25which of course is in his hometown of Chicago where they make a residence.
14:28So it obviously makes a lot of sense.
14:31There are other reports saying that this is not necessarily a one-off, which is huge.
14:36I think this match needs to be phenomenal.
14:40Hopefully she can go the way she always was able to in the ring.
14:42Let's face it, we're not talking about some 60-year-old male wrestler coming back for one last hurrah.
14:47She's young.
14:49She's still very young.
14:50So she can still go as long as she wants to go.
14:53If she wants to come back and have more than one match, that's great.
14:55If it's a one-off, fine.
14:56I heard them debating on Busted Open today with Bully Ray and Nick Nemeth talking about whether it should be Rhea.
15:02Whether they should have AJ come out for this match and have her get beaten down at the end and have Rhea make the save
15:05and then pair off Punk and Rhea in the future.
15:09I get it because Rhea is a more contemporary star.
15:11A lot more people will know who Rhea is versus AJ Lee.
15:13But it's not going to take long for the diehards to do a simple YouTube search and find anything they need to find about AJ Lee
15:19or go on the network or go on Peacock and watch AJ Lee's contributions to the business.
15:24Go back and watch Fighting With My Family and see how she helped bring Paige into the business.
15:29I would love to see it.
15:30As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be opposed to Paige ended up coming out and being involved in a few later on at some point.
15:36That would be great as well.
15:37But obviously they're setting this up.
15:39They're going to make this match happen.
15:41Everybody's going to lose their mind.
15:42I think it's kind of a waste to do that on a SmackDown episode.
15:46But whatever.
15:46To each his own.
15:47I'm not here to judge.
15:48I'm just saying.
15:49I think they would behoove themselves if they built it up a little differently heading into Wrestlepalooza
15:55because they really want to get that over because it's the launch of the ESPN relationship.
15:59Let's change gears a little bit.
16:01The widow of late WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan, Sky, is now considering a medical malpractice lawsuit.
16:08They are in the process of gathering reports and information.
16:14They are being investigated for possible malpractice.
16:18This is huge.
16:19There's been a lot of conjecture about what actually happened.
16:22We don't really know.
16:23So that's something to monitor, keep an eye on.
16:25Jim Ross has been in the news lately.
16:27His AEW contract coming up for renewal.
16:30And it turns out he never considered, in his own words, never considered going anywhere else.
16:34He has re-signed with AEW.
16:38He's going to be staying with them for the foreseeable future, part-time basis.
16:41Probably major shows.
16:42But he's still able to contribute.
16:44And he really loves what he's doing for them.
16:45So that's great stuff.
16:47In other free agent news, Vincent and Dutch of the Righteous are potentially being scouted by WWE.
16:53They have notified all the indie bookers.
16:55That their time in the indies is up.
16:57They're going to work out the rest of the remaining dates.
17:00And then they're moving on.
17:01Could be to go join WWE.
17:03There was rumblings in 2022 that they wanted them for the Wyatt Six.
17:06It didn't happen.
17:07Now maybe they come in now.
17:08I suspect they would be a team you'd put into NXT before you put them to a main roster situation.
17:14But we'll have to wait and see.
17:15I guess maybe it depends on if they want to expand the Wyatt Six.
17:18Or if they want to keep it the way it is.
17:19We'll have to see how that pans out.
17:20But again, a really great tag team.
17:22Something that is a good get for any company pulling them in.
17:25And I've got to talk about this because I thought it was really interesting.
17:28Over the weekend there was so much conversation about how unsuccessful it was going to be.
17:31And it turned out to be very successful.
17:33Drawing over 3,000 fans in Cleveland, Ohio.
17:36On Saturday.
17:37Real American Freestyle Wrestling.
17:40Episode 1.
17:41Did take place.
17:42The results are available online.
17:44All kinds.
17:45Just a fantastic card with some surprises.
17:48We got to see Holly Holm come out and replace Kennedy Blades in her match against Alejandro Rivera.
17:56Which was a shocker for everybody.
17:58Some of the other stuff we got to see.
18:01At one point, when you're trying to look to pop the crowd, you want to have some big debut.
18:06Some big moment.
18:07And what we got was Chael Sonnen accepting a challenge from Tito Ortiz.
18:13Which is made a little stranger now because, you know, also in the news, the fact that Chael Sonnen was choked out twice in a jiu-jitsu competition they had.
18:23But at the same time, it sounds like we may get Chael Sonnen in the ring taking on Tito Ortiz.
18:29Which would be incredible for Real American Freestyle to have that style of fight at their next event.
18:36I think that would be a great headliner.
18:38Wyatt Hendrickson was there.
18:39So they had a lot of great talent.
18:41Good stuff.
18:42Thrilled to see such a successful first event.
18:45They deserve all the flowers they get because there was a lot of questions coming into this.
18:49Whether it was going to be successful at all.
18:51The attendance was solid.
18:52The response, the feedback from fans watching this was solid.
18:56The surprises were good.
18:58So congratulations to Eric Bischoff.
19:01He did an interview on 83 Weeks where he said he felt like Hogan was there with him.
19:05Very spiritual moment.
