Breaking Down Asus's 2014 Logo Redesign_ What Works and What Doesn't
Transcript
00:00This is a problem because logos need to be scanned.
00:02If people can't quickly scan a logo and take in all the information,
00:05they're going to miss important details.
00:07Now, let's look at balance.
00:09Balance is the distribution of visual weight in a composition.
00:12This logo is perfectly balanced, which is a good thing.
00:15Logos need to be stable and balanced.
00:17If they're not, people will find them to be unsettling and confusing.
00:21So now let's get back to talking about the logo.
00:23What do I think of it?
00:24Well, I think it's an improvement over the previous design,
00:27but I don't think it's a very strong logo.
00:29The main problem is that it's too busy.
00:31There are way too many lines and shapes going on,
00:33and it makes it hard to read.
00:35Another problem is that the color gradient is way too subtle.
00:38It's almost not even there.
00:39A gradient can add some interest to a logo,
00:41but it needs to be strong enough to make an impact.
00:44Unfortunately, this gradient doesn't do either of those things.
00:47Let me show you a few examples of logos that do these things better.
