Transcript
00:00This time, the company decided to stop competing against these giant corporations
00:03and instead focused on providing consumers with unique products that were not widely available elsewhere.
00:09For example, in 1990, Philips released the world's first handheld camcorder.
00:15A decade later, the company released the world's first digital video camera.
00:19And around the same time, they also created the world's first voice-activated personal digital assistant.
00:25Throughout the 2000s, Philips continued to release one revolutionary product after another,
00:30including the world's first portable DVD player, the world's first LED TV, the world's first OLED TV,
00:37and even the world's first Ombilite TV, a TV that projects an image from the screen onto the wall behind
00:43it
00:43to provide consumers with an immersive experience.
00:46As you can see, throughout its history, Philips has always reinvented itself whenever it found itself in a tight spot,
00:53which brings us to the question, what exactly does Philips do today?
00:57Well, today, Philips operates through two main segments, health care and personal health.
01:03Their health care business includes everything related to clinical health,
01:06whereas their personal health segment includes everything related to home health care.
01:10If we take a look at their revenue breakdown, we can see that their personal health segment
01:14makes up for the vast majority of their revenue,
01:17while their clinical health segment only makes up for a small portion of their overall revenue.
01:22When we take a look at their personal health segment,
01:25we can see that they operate in four main categories,
01:28namely oral care, personal care, home health care, and sleep and DME,
01:33where DME stands for durable medical equipment.
01:36Now, their oral care business consists of all their electric toothbrush products.
01:41And if you take a look at this market,
01:43you'll find that Philips is comfortably sitting at the top of the table,
01:46it's probably going to keep playing as possible.
01:46It's probably possible.
