00:02This program is rated G and considered acceptable for all ages.
00:12Previously on Renovation Resort, it was all about heads and beds as the teams tackled their guest bedrooms.
00:18This gives me anxiety.
00:19Oh my gosh, it looks so good!
00:21A surprise twist forced them to reimagine pieces from the resort's past.
00:25It all looks like junk to me.
00:27Climbing all the way to the top.
00:28In the end, Shallan and Liz delivered standout spaces once again.
00:33Back-to-back wins.
00:35Now.
00:35Get back to work!
00:37With one room left, the teams will have to reach new heights for the win.
00:41Oh boy.
00:42What's happening?
00:43Fire me!
00:47The ultimate renovation competition is back.
00:51We built four brand new lake houses from the ground up.
00:55Now, four powerhouse designer-contractor duos from across North America will take on the ultimate renovation competition.
01:03Their mission, to turn these blank slates into amazing vacation destinations in just eight weeks.
01:09The team with the best lake house will be crowned Renovation Resort champions.
01:15And take home $100,000.
01:19I'm Brian Baumler.
01:21And I'm Scott McGillivray.
01:22Let the lake house battle begin.
01:24This is Renovation Resort.
01:34Going into the next challenge with three wins just feels amazing.
01:38I feel a churning inside me that's just going to propel me to the finale.
01:42We're feeling pretty down that we haven't won in a really long time.
01:47But this week, we're going to go in ready for this next space.
01:52How's everybody doing?
01:54Good.
01:55Feeling good?
01:56This week, you got a big one.
01:58This is the biggest.
02:00You will be completing the final spaces in your lake houses, your living rooms, and your back decks that overlook
02:06the lake.
02:07The living room, you could say it's the soul of your lake house.
02:11A place where everyone comes together to relax and recharge.
02:14So your challenge is to design a space that's welcoming and functional enough to handle the busiest of days.
02:22And I want you to think about those big back decks as a natural extension of that living room.
02:27And as you can see, we're working on getting those decks ready for you now.
02:31As always, you've only got a week.
02:34Okay, let's bring those living rooms to life.
02:36Go for it.
02:39This is it.
02:40Let's do the deck.
02:45What's the plan for the living room?
02:46This is the space that I have actually been waiting for us to design.
02:51It is my favorite space in the whole house.
02:53We need to go big impact.
02:55I want to draw your eye to those incredible vaulted ceilings.
02:59So let's clad them in natural wood and add exposed trusses, a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace.
03:05I want it flanked with custom built-ins and let splurge on a custom sectional.
03:10We also have the deck.
03:13Yeah.
03:14I want to create a whole entertaining experience, complete with a big dining table with a pizza
03:19oven and a lounge area where people can kick back, relax, and enjoy that spectacular view.
03:26All I heard was big fireplace and pizza oven, so I'm in.
03:31Time to get started on this fireplace.
03:32Got a little bit of practice in the kitchen, but this fireplace is a beast.
03:36We need to have a wow factor and go big with this, and I think it'll look amazing if we
03:41pull it off.
03:41It's going to be tough, but we can do this.
03:43There's a lot going on here.
03:46I think we should go off with a bang, and I love the idea of bringing the nautical feel
03:50through to the rest of the space.
03:53Love it.
03:54On this wall, we can add some seating and custom wall art.
03:57We'll put a fireplace on the opposing wall with plaster and trim.
04:02Our deck is going to be an extension of our living room with luxurious patio furniture.
04:07Let's do a dining space over here with an umbrella for these hot summer days
04:10and a lounging area with comfortable recliners.
04:13I can't believe this is the final space, Marcie.
04:16I'm so proud of us.
04:17I'm so proud of us, too.
04:20We've had mixed reviews from the judges the past few weeks, but we're going to stay true
04:24to our design, and we hope that we impress the judges and we get this win.
04:29I don't know if that's the right measurement.
04:33I'm really excited about this room because when we didn't win the kitchen, I was like,
04:36okay, I want to win the living room.
04:38Yeah, redemption.
04:39Yes.
04:40I'm thinking we're going to chill.
04:42We're serene.
04:45For the living room, let's create a feature wall with custom-built floor-to-ceiling shelves.
04:49We'll finish the room with natural cane furniture and colorful artwork.
04:54Out on the deck, I want to maximize the outdoor entertaining space by creating three zones.
04:59A dining zone with a large table and plenty of seating, a zone for relaxing and taking in
05:03the stunning lake views, and a cooking zone.
05:07This view is hypnotizing.
05:10We could stand here all day, but we got work to do, Shallan.
05:13For my built-in unit in the living room, I'm doing two tall bookshelves that are going to be LED
05:19lit.
05:20I'm going to do a two-by-four, build it up, so our first shelf is up here.
05:25Executing this build is super important.
05:27It's the last and final impression that I get to make on Scott and Brian with my experience in building.
05:32It's a lot of staining, a lot of sanding, so I'm going to give it all I have.
05:37You're moving fast.
05:38Yeah, it's all the same cut 20 times.
05:41Two more.
05:43The living room.
05:44Living room.
05:45So much we can work with.
05:46So much space.
05:48Only two hands.
05:49I know.
05:50Well, two and a half.
05:51Two and a half.
05:52So I'm thinking, let's make a splash with a stunning asymmetrical fireplace.
05:57Then, the comfiest flat couch we can find with a white stone coffee table for contrast.
06:03And let's not forget about the ceiling.
06:05I do want to tie into my Japanese roots again.
06:07Maybe a grid of wood strips to add some texture and depth.
06:11The back deck should be a hangout spot for guests.
06:14So I'm thinking a large table for meals with the family and a fire pit for those cooler evenings.
06:20All right, let's get to it.
06:21I've got a ton to do.
06:26Oh my gosh, the deck is coming along.
06:29It looks so good.
06:31This is it.
06:32This is the big one.
06:34This is the big one.
06:35The tallest room, the biggest room.
06:37You've got to get the living room right.
06:39Oh my gosh.
06:39At this point in the competition, these teams are exhausted.
06:44They're going to have to dig deep and find that energy because with $100,000 on the line,
06:48now's not the time to sit back and kick your feet up.
06:50Oh, hey, do you want to sit back?
06:51Yeah, you want to get your feet up?
06:52Yeah, let's chill out.
06:56We're doing the living room and the deck.
06:58You've got a lot of work to do.
06:59Pretty much finished the base for the fireplace.
07:02It's time to go big or go home.
07:04I'm not just doing a small fireplace.
07:06We're going 16 feet up.
07:08Woohoo!
07:09We're going to make this perfect.
07:20It's looking really good.
07:21One step at a time.
07:24The living room, the deck.
07:26This is the final piece that brings it all together.
07:28The final countdown.
07:29I'm going to start here.
07:30Do you want to start there?
07:31Okay.
07:32Oh.
07:34Oh.
07:34Hello.
07:35Look at these rock stars.
07:37Our favorite visitor.
07:39Hello.
07:39What is happening in here?
07:40Two strong girls are putting up some beams.
07:43Yeah?
07:43And what are you two doing?
07:45Oh.
07:47Is this getting the schmear?
07:48Yeah.
07:49It's getting schmeared all the way 16 feet up.
07:52Oh, up there.
07:53Okay.
07:53That's not all that's going on.
07:55Oh, so pray tell.
07:57Besides this feature, we have a bit of a ceiling feature as well.
08:00Instead of doing beams, now we're doing trusses.
08:02And are you doing like faux timber trusses?
08:04Tempt trusses.
08:05Yeah, I don't know.
08:06We'll see if we can get it done.
08:08Yeah.
08:08You got a lot of work to do.
08:10You got the steam for this?
08:11Kind of.
08:12We got to show up.
08:13It's the last one.
08:14We want to make a big impact and we want to win.
08:16So.
08:17What keeps you going?
08:19Nothing worth having is ever easy.
08:21Yeah.
08:21And we've learned that both from like young ages.
08:24I've had a lot of responsibility since I was young.
08:27Growing up, my mom would struggle with her mental health.
08:30I had to grow up quite fast.
08:34Even when I was going to university, I was working two jobs just to make sure that I could afford
08:40to go.
08:41But the route that I've taken has made me who I am.
08:44I wouldn't be as scrappy or as sassy as I am today.
08:48I wouldn't change anything.
08:50You guys definitely have that drive.
08:51I can smell it.
08:53Home stretch.
08:55Yes.
08:55Huge stakes.
08:56You chose when you did the kitchen to do this floating banquette in the middle.
09:01You said that will be incorporated in the living room.
09:04So we've been waiting for this moment.
09:06I have a few options up my sleeve.
09:07I'm always thinking ahead.
09:09Don't worry.
09:10Oh, so your plan is shifting.
09:12We are going to have a fireplace in the space.
09:16Where?
09:17It's going to be on this wall.
09:19You're going to do the fireplace under the windows?
09:21Yes.
09:22Interesting.
09:23Yeah.
09:23Why?
09:24Because I want to do a feature wall on this wall.
09:27What kind of feature are you going to have on this wall?
09:29This is a huge wall.
09:29It's going to be a little touch that feels like our family.
09:33This is a big room.
09:34Yes.
09:34There's more to do this week than there has ever been so far in this competition.
09:43I'm going to start framing the fireplace.
09:44I think it's going to be a showstopper.
09:46We are going to be bringing back the Sugi van material from the primary bed and bathroom.
09:51And I am so excited because instead of doing it on a vertical, we're going to be installing
09:56it horizontal.
09:58The room will look a little bit longer.
10:03Okay, teams.
10:04Come meet Brian and I down by the fire pit.
10:06And there's something puzzling going on over here.
10:09No, I was just getting into this.
10:11Here we go.
10:12What do they have for us now?
10:15Here we are.
10:16Here they are.
10:18Woo.
10:19Are you feeling like the pieces of your living room and decks are starting to come together?
10:23No, definitely.
10:24Yes.
10:25Yes.
10:25Well, what if we told you that there's a whole new piece to this puzzle?
10:30I'm not surprised.
10:32Well, that's right.
10:33For this week's design detour, you are not just completing your decks, but you also must
10:38transform what's underneath it.
10:40You know that often underutilized sort of forgotten space?
10:44Well, we want to make sure that's complete as well.
10:46So it's kind of a double-decker this week.
10:48Scott and Brian know how to pile it on even more than Shallan does.
10:52Before you get out your sketch pads and get to planning, we do have another surprise for
10:58you.
10:58And this one comes with a serious incentive.
11:02Every team has a pile of marked wooden planks.
11:06Your task is going to be to race to assemble the fence in the correct order to reveal a hidden
11:11image.
11:11The first team that finishes will win a massive upgrade.
11:15We're talking a luxury, high-end feature that could take your design to the next level.
11:21We are fast.
11:23Yes.
11:23And I love puzzles.
11:25Yes.
11:26We got this.
11:27Your time starts now.
11:31Call the hand.
11:32Let's go.
11:33Let's go.
11:33There they go.
11:34Build me a beautiful fence, please.
11:37Help me.
11:39Okay, which one's next?
11:41Yes, that one's first.
11:42This is not about building a fence.
11:45It's about being able to communicate with your partner.
11:47No, no, wrong way.
11:48Wrong way.
11:48Have a little forethought.
11:50No.
11:50No.
11:51Here.
11:51This is a metaphor.
11:53A metaphor.
11:54For the entire challenge.
11:56Wow.
11:57Is this right?
11:57Like that?
11:58Yeah, yeah.
11:58There you go.
11:59Is that the right run?
12:00This way.
12:01That one.
12:02You know what it is yet?
12:03Looks familiar.
12:04I got it.
12:05There's two figures.
12:06This is Scott and Brian.
12:08We can put it together.
12:09Got it figured out?
12:10We're trying.
12:13Tatiana and Thomas have the correct bottom board.
12:15No one else does.
12:17They're all looking a little different, which is weird.
12:19Which means everybody is building on something that they're going to have to take apart to
12:23get that bottom board back in.
12:24The further they go, the more they're going to have to undo.
12:29Oh, my God.
12:30I'm Beardad.
12:30I'm Beardad.
12:30Look, you got to pull it all off.
12:32You got to pull it all off.
12:32Beardad and Taylor, you're going the wrong way.
12:35Let's go.
12:35Oh, no.
12:40Oh, my God.
12:41Beardad.
12:41I made a mistake.
12:42You got to pull it all off.
12:43You got to pull it all off.
12:44All off?
12:44Yeah, trust me.
12:45Trust me.
12:45Beardad and Taylor, you're going the wrong way.
12:48You're back to the beginning.
12:50Oh, it's a do-over.
12:52Oh, no.
12:54Other way.
12:54Other way.
12:55Is this torso?
12:56That looks like his shirt.
12:57I see fences are getting taller.
12:59Oh, that's a finger.
13:02Damn, is that their feet?
13:04This was their shoes.
13:05I thought that was the top of their head the whole time.
13:07Keep them exact the exact same way I hand them to you.
13:09Melissa, hold on.
13:10Oh, boy.
13:11What's happening?
13:14Okay.
13:15You are very close.
13:15You have two boards to go.
13:17Tatiana and Thomas are always neck and neck with us.
13:20I feel like we are due for a win.
13:25Go, go, go, go, go.
13:26We're getting close.
13:28We may have a winner down the other end.
13:29Whoa, whoa, whoa.
13:30Coming to verify.
13:31I look great.
13:32Brian looks terrible.
13:33We got a winner.
13:35Yeah.
13:37We won the puzzle challenge.
13:39I don't know what we won, so I don't know why I'm so excited.
13:43Woo.
13:44Yes.
13:44And I'll be heading over with your prize soon.
13:50This below deck design detour added so much more to our plate.
13:54Third space to do.
13:56Woo.
13:56We have to do some sort of seating.
13:57What are you thinking?
13:58I'm thinking maybe hanging day bed.
14:01I would love to play into the social atmosphere, like a candy bar, a popcorn machine.
14:07I think we do a big bar here.
14:09I have big ideas for Liz to build.
14:11What about one of your LED signs?
14:14Girl, you stretching me thin.
14:15I see bars.
14:16I see swings.
14:18It's never too much.
14:19Never too much.
14:20Never too much.
14:21Never too much.
14:22I'm a little concerned.
14:23Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
14:34I feel like every time I look over, you're, like, sanding or you're staining something.
14:38Yeah.
14:39Story of my life today.
14:40Ha, ha, ha.
14:40This is boring.
14:44Ha, ha, ha, ha.
14:46Fireplace looks a little heavy, so I've got to spend some more time on it and buff it out.
14:50We got a lot left to do.
14:53We are putting every ounce of blood, sweat, and tears that we have into this.
14:57All right, do it.
14:59Turn around.
15:00Dust is flying everywhere.
15:03It ain't come off?
15:04Yep.
15:06We were going to put this all over the walls.
15:09What I was not thinking about was how it was going to butt up to the kitchen wallpaper.
15:14Right.
15:15I'm not loving that.
15:16The wallpaper needs to say something that I think it might be saying too much this time.
15:20Yeah.
15:20It might need to shut up.
15:22I'm thinking about framing out pieces under each window.
15:27Yeah.
15:28It'll create dimension, instill visual interest, but not overwhelm the space.
15:32I can't do that wallpaper and this wallpaper and baskets from the ceiling.
15:38It's just too much.
15:39Too much.
15:40Too much.
15:44Taylor and Meredad won the Puzzle Fence Challenge.
15:47They are about to get a major upgrade.
15:50What do you think they're getting?
15:51I have no idea, Melissa, but we should have won that challenge.
15:54Taylor and Meredad, please come outside of your lake house.
15:59Hello, hello.
16:00Hello, hello.
16:01Hi.
16:01Do you want to see your advantage?
16:03Yes.
16:06Your upgrade is the Panaview folding door from Pollard Windows and Doors, which folds completely
16:12to one side.
16:13What?
16:13Oh, my gosh.
16:14This is going to turn your lakefront view into a lakefront experience.
16:18Your living room and your deck are now fully connected when this door is open.
16:21Let's go.
16:23So we're going to start working right away, and by the end of today, it's going to look
16:27like a dream.
16:29Somebody watch the top.
16:30When you're on vacation, yes, you're going to be inside, but the goal is to be outside.
16:34Sweet.
16:35And with this new upgrade, it definitely feels premium because their whole wall folds open.
16:39Oh, my God.
16:41Wow.
16:42Your wall's gone.
16:43What is happening?
16:44It's all one sliding motion, even though it's got the five separate panels.
16:48The screen is fully retracted on that side, but...
16:51Everything is just open.
16:53It's going to be out of this world.
16:55I cannot believe it.
16:56And we're the only ones with it.
16:59Gives us the edge, I think.
17:00Yeah.
17:01What's the plan for outside?
17:03So we got some criticism on our outdoor space for our bunkie.
17:06Yeah.
17:07But that was intentional on our end.
17:08I think you're missing a little bit of the fire pit area.
17:11It was a lot of negative space.
17:12So a lot of the features that people have actually incorporated on their front lawn,
17:16we're going to have here, which will work even better with these full indoors
17:19because we can now actually utilize the living space outdoors as well.
17:22So there is a theme of continuousness from your living room to outside already.
17:27Yeah.
17:27We're going to get it all done.
17:29We're going to get it all done.
17:30Yeah, of course.
17:36Hello.
17:37Run me through the plan in the living room.
17:40Right here is Liz's build.
17:41She's going to be doing custom bookshelves, flanking what we have here.
17:46We definitely don't want to do so much splash in here.
17:50Yeah.
17:50But there will be nods of the colors that you've already seen.
17:52Okay.
17:53Wrapping it up all in a nice little bow.
17:55Yes.
17:56This is a big moment.
17:57Yes.
17:57You can see the end.
17:59How are the nerves?
18:00A little anxious.
18:01Yeah.
18:02Anxious?
18:02What are you anxious about?
18:03I think like bringing all the theme together.
18:06As we say in Texas, we picked our horse and rode it.
18:08Yeah.
18:09I want to take the wind and ride my horse all the way home.
18:12All the way home.
18:20Marcy wants an expensive stone fireplace, and I'm making it out of MDF, crown, and plaster.
18:26Good luck to me.
18:29Wait.
18:31This looks so dark.
18:32Do you think in the end this would dry lighter or darker?
18:35It can dry a lot lighter than this.
18:37This is like mud.
18:39This is a disaster.
18:40It is so not the color I wanted.
18:42If it's going to look like this, then I want to look into something different.
18:50This is like mud.
18:52It does look like mud.
18:53This is not what the sample looked like at all.
18:56Should we just wait and see what happens?
18:58Maybe you're just...
18:59We have no time to wait.
19:00This takes 12 hours to dry.
19:02I'm not as worried as Marcy.
19:04I think it's going to dry exactly how she wants.
19:06I'm hoping this is going to dry lighter.
19:08I put all my faith in Melissa for this fireplace.
19:11If she says it's going to work out, I'm just going to trust her.
19:20I'm trying to pick the perfect outdoor sofa.
19:23I have too many options, and I need help narrowing it down.
19:27We've done so well showcasing our West Coast and organic modern style on the inside,
19:32and I'm feeling the pressure to keep it going on the outside.
19:35What do you actually think?
19:37A lot of families are going to come through these lake houses.
19:39My kids, they love to take the pillows off and make forts,
19:42so definitely has to be durable.
19:44I do really like this one.
19:46It looks luxurious, and I can get two accent chairs that match it.
19:50Yeah, it's nice.
19:51Okay, this is the one.
19:54Here's your next piece.
19:57So much to do still.
19:59It's a lot more cuts.
20:00I'm done!
20:03Dumb wallpaper.
20:04Forever.
20:05This looks like an art gallery almost.
20:07Looks really good.
20:08Good job.
20:13What's up, man?
20:13How are you?
20:15This design detour to complete the lower patio area below the deck,
20:20they're very overwhelmed.
20:21We need to give them a little bit of a boost.
20:24A focal point to design around.
20:26Hot tub giveaway!
20:27Hot tubs for everybody!
20:29Everybody watch the grass!
20:31Oh, there we go.
20:32Should we just jump on and ride it?
20:36Oh, that was easy!
20:38Having a hot tub books places faster.
20:40It books them further into the shoulder seasons.
20:43You're sitting here in the hot tub.
20:44Look at that view.
20:45Yeah, let's leave it to the competitors to do the rest.
20:49Oh, look at this.
20:50We love relaxing in hot tubs.
20:52We have dance parties in the hot tub.
20:54Imagine the jets on.
20:55That would be amazing.
20:56That would be so nice.
20:57Cheers.
20:58It's going to be so good.
21:01Yay!
21:03I hate this job.
21:05I don't love staining.
21:06I'm done, though.
21:08I'm done with this.
21:09It's repetitive and not rewarding.
21:12Fire me!
21:13Well, I need you, though.
21:18All right.
21:19You go get up on the scaffold and I'll bring it in.
21:21Okay.
21:22This ceiling is way too good not to use, so I want to make it impactful with trusses.
21:28Okay.
21:28I'm going to get this done.
21:30How's that look?
21:30Does that look good to you?
21:31Looks good to me.
21:32They have to be perfect.
21:34There's no room for any air.
21:36Like, all the cuts need to be flawless.
21:38Feeling good that we're getting this.
21:39Progress happening here.
21:40I'm definitely feeling a lot of nerves and anxiety since this is the last interior challenge.
21:46Okay.
21:49Wow.
21:50Doesn't it look so nice now that it's dry?
21:53Melissa, this is the perfect color.
21:55It looks like an expensive stone piece.
22:00Oh, don't snap.
22:01Yeah.
22:03This material for the concrete wall is really hard to work with.
22:07It's flimsy and every little piece starts breaking off really quickly.
22:11I don't know.
22:12The concrete panels are crumbling.
22:14I'm getting frustrated because I really want this week to just be perfect, and I'm not
22:20really happy with it right now.
22:22Some of them are a bit discolored.
22:25Oh, yeah.
22:25That one looks more yellow.
22:27That one actually bothers me.
22:29It just shows, like, inconsistencies.
22:32I don't want to redo it.
22:39Well, there's one that's, like, very yellow.
22:41It just shows, like, inconsistencies.
22:43It's just sticking out like a sore thumb.
22:46I'm almost thinking we should just rip the whole thing out.
22:47I have so much on my mind right now.
22:49I can't worry about another thing.
22:51I don't know why this one panel is just discolored.
22:56We love the idea of creating a gorgeous focal point and backdrop for our sofa wall.
23:04This is very awkward.
23:06Maybe you wouldn't do this in your own home, but at a rental property, these baskets make
23:09the room more fun.
23:10It's creative.
23:11It's something different, and it's something that I did myself.
23:14Yeah.
23:14I'm proud of this, and I can't wait to see it when it comes to life.
23:20We are tasked to do not only the living room, but we have to do the upper deck and the
23:25lower
23:26deck.
23:26We've got to get going.
23:27That is gorgeous.
23:29The deck has to be an extension of the living space.
23:31It has to complement the view.
23:32Add a little bit of lounge.
23:34Just tie it all back into the house to extend that square footage.
23:37This given Caribbean is giving.
23:39It's giving.
23:40It's giving.
23:40It's giving.
23:41Get back to work.
23:42We've got to get this couch built.
23:44For the upper deck of the patio, I chose the most beautiful patio set.
23:49I have a three-seater sofa, and it looks so luxurious.
23:53I'm so excited for this one.
23:54Oh, wow.
23:56Good timing.
23:58Oh.
23:59What are you doing?
24:00This is nice.
24:02It is really nice, but get up off of it.
24:05Oh, man.
24:07We're going to paint these concrete panels in hopes that it covers the seams, and it covers
24:12the yellow.
24:13We need consistency.
24:14I think it's a great plan.
24:15You happy with it?
24:16Yeah, let's do it.
24:17Let's do it.
24:18Whatever that was, okay.
24:19Say bye to the yellow panel, my dad.
24:25For my built-in unit in the living room, I'm doing two tall bookshelves.
24:30Because they are natural wood, I have to make them perfect.
24:35Nope.
24:36Just cut all these too short.
24:38Cut them all the same, and they were the wrong size?
24:40Yep.
24:40I don't know.
24:41I think I cut my template wrong.
24:43Ruh-roh.
24:46Scott and Brian have called us out on the wave wall in the bedroom, not being perfection.
24:50I'm going to check everyone.
24:51So I'm putting a lot of time and attention into that unit.
24:54Cheer up, buttercup.
24:56This is good.
24:57This is going to be fantastic.
24:59Where is this accent coming from?
25:01It's my Texan accent.
25:02Oh, okay.
25:09Our design detour this week is to design and complete below the deck as well.
25:14We don't really have the budget or much time left.
25:17Well, at least we're getting a hot tub.
25:18That we won't get to enjoy.
25:22Downstairs on the lower deck, we have a few items just to wrap up.
25:25I need to finish out the bar detail with the bamboo.
25:28I feel like I need another two days to finish everything.
25:32I think it'd be so fun to do almost an homage to our Moonlight Bay theme and do a globe
25:40chair.
25:40I've always loved those.
25:41Sounds good.
25:42Competitors, you have one hour to complete your living rooms, decks, and lower decks.
25:47I'm feeling the pressure right now.
25:49We still have to style this whole room.
25:51Here we go.
25:54This is a huge umbrella.
25:57We've got to stop eating the candy.
25:58We've got to go.
25:59Competitors.
26:00All right.
26:01You are done in five, four, three, two, one.
26:07Put your tools down and meet us at the fire pit.
26:10Good job.
26:11Oh, my gosh.
26:12What a week.
26:16Are you going to cry?
26:24I am a little bit apprehensive that the judges are going to be expecting another Pam Pal,
26:29and we're going to bring it to be a little more calm, like a calm sea, but I'm hoping that
26:34they'll get the vision.
26:34We haven't won anything since the primary bedroom, but I'm feeling really proud about our living room space.
26:48And now your living rooms and your decks, they're done.
26:52We can't wait to see them.
26:53As you know, we always need a little help.
26:55We've invited someone who's built their career on creating high-end designs that are as functional as they are unforgettable.
27:03Please welcome, from Sin City Rehab, Allison Victoria.
27:08Hi.
27:11Hi.
27:12How are you guys?
27:13I mean, I know how you are.
27:15I've been in your shoes.
27:18Allison, what will you be looking for?
27:20I'm going to look for the floor plan first, then your material use, and, like, how intentional you are with
27:27the design, and how cohesive it is.
27:29We do have some work to do.
27:30Okay.
27:31Bye, guys.
27:35Taylor and Meridad have a Japanese-inspired space.
27:38Let me see this.
27:40Yes.
27:41Let's see.
27:41Ooh.
27:42Ooh.
27:42Ooh.
27:43Okay.
27:45Wow.
27:48I love texture.
27:49I like when somebody does a feature wall that is not just paint, with it being almost like a wainscoting.
27:56In their guest bedrooms, they did something like this.
27:58It's kind of like that Japanese wall divider.
28:00So, two things.
28:01In a lake house, you want to bring the eye out, and you want to bring the eye up.
28:05And they've done both.
28:06I mean, she knows what you're talking about.
28:07She's good.
28:08I love shashogibon.
28:11I love this table in the middle.
28:13It just feels like a big rock grounding the space, and it's got some magical powers of some sort.
28:18There's a lot of this stuff.
28:20Yeah.
28:20Oh, God.
28:21Well, that's maybe not a man thing, then.
28:23You know I love this.
28:24There's never enough of this.
28:25Well, you're getting a lot of it over here.
28:27Okay.
28:27So, there was a puzzle fence challenge, and Taylor and Merida had won, and what they got was this massive
28:33folding window.
28:34So, that is a difference maker right there.
28:38That is, like, massive win for them.
28:41I love the fact that they brought that modern look from in here, out here with the mixed metals.
28:46I love this.
28:48This is pretty sick.
28:50You are so close to the house to sit here and enjoy a fireplace.
28:52Yeah.
28:52Instead of going downstairs, outside to sit around, this is actually a perfect spot for it.
28:57I love it.
28:58I would have had the dining table over here.
29:00Because, look, your view is obstructed here.
29:04I mean, it looks like a postcard.
29:06It's so gorgeous.
29:07And this isn't even all of it.
29:09There was a design detour.
29:10They had to design under the decks as well.
29:12Oh, God.
29:12Okay.
29:13Let's see it.
29:15Oh, wow.
29:16Here we go.
29:16Love this shower.
29:18Look at this.
29:18You can surprise the neighbors.
29:19It's a shower and a shower.
29:22There's a hot tub.
29:23There's a cold plunge and the shower.
29:25You get the whole thermal circuit.
29:26This is a wellness retreat.
29:28Exactly.
29:29Where did this come from?
29:31It doesn't go.
29:33Metallic leather.
29:34Oh, you've got to sit in here.
29:35Acoustics.
29:35The acoustics?
29:36Unbelievable.
29:36Okay, so if you sing, this is a great chair.
29:38Yeah.
29:40There should be, like, an outdoor TV or a theater or a projector because you've got the popcorn.
29:44Well, the bunkie could have housed the outdoor TV.
29:48There are some really great things that I see here, and then there's some messes.
29:52Okay.
29:53We'll see if everyone else measures up.
29:54I know.
29:54I can't wait to see the rest.
29:56Taylor and Mare Dad nailed their main space, highlighting the soaring ceilings, spending a total of $45,000.
30:03But they missed the mark below deck.
30:05Now, with money left in their budget, was this a missed opportunity?
30:09Let's go have a look at Marcy and Melissa.
30:11This is Driftwood Dunes.
30:13Driftwood Dunes.
30:15Ooh.
30:16It's different, isn't it?
30:21I love this.
30:24It's different, isn't it?
30:26This feels good.
30:28I love this.
30:29Gives you an opportunity for seating.
30:33That furniture is nice and light and airy and also very soft looking.
30:36Like, I want to sit down on everything.
30:37Yeah.
30:38This detail roped me in quickly.
30:41Cool art piece.
30:42Cool focal point.
30:44I love this idea.
30:45I'm stealing this idea.
30:46How much does that cost?
30:47Nothing.
30:48I'm sure it's not expensive.
30:50Sorry.
30:51I love a mantle.
30:53Got this skim coat so it looks like limestone.
30:56That looks like precast.
30:57It's unbelievable.
30:58So if they did this themselves, I want them to come and do this for me.
31:04That's a lot of baskets.
31:06Too much.
31:06We got trays.
31:07We got bowls.
31:09You see what, like, something like this could do to a room that is otherwise gorgeous?
31:13It can detract from the beauty of a space.
31:17It makes the room feel smaller.
31:20Oh.
31:21Oh, this is cool.
31:24Look at this.
31:25I got a menu.
31:26That's cute.
31:27Family pizza night.
31:28Oh, because they got the pizza maker right here.
31:30This is really sweet.
31:32The style looks amazing and the detail of having everything set and having the menu and the menu holders
31:37because when you're outside and you get a breeze, this stuff can blow around.
31:41This is the place I would rent.
31:43They can sleep eight here.
31:44Okay.
31:44So you've got eight guests.
31:45Yeah.
31:46One, two, three, four, five, six.
31:49Guess two people have to lounge or eat over here.
31:51Laying down.
31:52I think they could have maximized seating here a little more to create kind of an outdoor living room.
31:57All right, let's see what they, uh...
31:58Let's see.
32:00Ooh, okay.
32:02I mean, this is like a magazine moment.
32:04Yeah.
32:04This experience that they've created and curated, I really love.
32:09Maybe a different activation here would have been nice.
32:11Hot tubs fine, bar cart.
32:14I love the pops of blue.
32:15I love the stripes.
32:17Yeah.
32:17Very on brand.
32:18Yeah, and it's just really pretty.
32:20I feel like they've accomplished the assignment in terms of keeping everything consistent.
32:26They have a very calm, relaxed vibe.
32:29You don't belong here, Brian.
32:30I need to go.
32:32Basketball aside, Marcy and Melissa's final spaces tied their lake house together with their signature cozy style.
32:39And they budgeted well, with just $3,000 to spare.
32:45Prepare yourself for Coral Cove.
32:48Whoa.
32:49Welcome to the living room.
32:50Okay.
32:51Wow.
32:52Color splash.
32:55I'm loving that they did these framed out picture boxes on the wall.
32:58I think that elevates the look.
33:01Yes, there's palm trees, but it's subtle.
33:02And they think their furniture in here is just great.
33:05Does this remind you of, like, your resort?
33:07It's got a high-end hospitality fit.
33:09Yeah.
33:11She's built this whole thing, done the face frames, put the LEDs in there.
33:14But there is a lot of empty here.
33:15And I'm all about built-ins.
33:16They add value.
33:18It's just cutting the eye short.
33:19I think in a picture, it's going to work extremely well facing this way.
33:24But when you get here, I think you lose the 15-foot ceilings by having everything stop low.
33:30Let's go inside.
33:31There we are.
33:32Look at the deck.
33:33Wow.
33:34Oh, my goodness.
33:35I like the high top in the corner, to be honest.
33:38And an elevated seating area, so you can enjoy the view.
33:41I would have liked to have seen a bigger dining table.
33:44I think that they could have...
33:44Yeah, they have the space for it.
33:45The design is so specific.
33:47It's absolutely leaning into it and taking advantage of every square inch of the space.
33:54Let's see how they did with the design detour.
33:58This is cool.
33:59This is very cool.
34:01This is very, very cool.
34:02Oh, I love this.
34:03This is so fun.
34:05What could possibly go wrong?
34:07This is cute.
34:07And I love the panels.
34:09They've created a whole new moment down here.
34:12Now, Liz makes these signs herself.
34:14Is this beach, please?
34:16Yeah.
34:16Or beach, please?
34:18Like that.
34:19I think it's nice and simple.
34:20This is where you come down to chill and hang out.
34:22If you want to cook and eat, it's upstairs.
34:24I think that they've definitely set the bar.
34:26Spending only $35,000, Shalon and Liz finished their lake house exactly how we've come to expect.
34:32With big party energy and just under their total budget.
34:38Cedar Shore.
34:39Cedar Shore.
34:40Cedar Shore.
34:40Cedar Shore.
34:41Great West Coast vibe in here.
34:42It does feel very, like, Malibu.
34:45Wow.
34:46Wow.
34:47Wow.
34:48I really like that.
34:50Have a look at the TV.
34:52Picture frame.
34:53Welcome to Cedar Shore.
34:54Scott and Brian.
34:56Unbelievable.
34:57That's really well done.
34:58Spend the extra money to make sure the television isn't an eyesore.
35:02The stone goes to the ceiling.
35:04Very impressive stonework.
35:06They did the schmear effect so it's not too heavy.
35:10The fireplace is substantial.
35:12They've put in these faux trusses.
35:14Great detail.
35:15Oh, my gosh.
35:16The amount of work on that ceiling alone is outrageous.
35:21I don't know that this is the best setup.
35:24I love a sectional.
35:25It's like behind there feels lost space.
35:27Yeah.
35:28It needs to all shift this way.
35:31Look at this is very calm and very sophisticated-looking dining setup here.
35:35I love seats that have padding, not pulling cushions in and bringing them out every time
35:40it rains.
35:41Yeah, there's no storage.
35:42So from the primary, you can walk right out to the patio.
35:45It's a nice little upgrade.
35:46I don't like having my back to what is the real focus of why you're renting the place.
35:51That doesn't work for me.
35:52But having the slider here is what forces you to have your back to the view.
35:55Not necessarily.
35:56You could have had the sofa on this side.
35:58You could have done at least a sectional here so someone had the view.
36:02Let's go downstairs.
36:04Look at this.
36:05God, this is nice.
36:06Hot tub time.
36:07They've got the hot tub rules.
36:09I like the sports setup back there.
36:11I see the life jackets.
36:12I see the fishing gear.
36:13You can tell that Tatiana and Thomas dominate in the guest experience space.
36:18Tatiana and Thomas impressed us with their ceiling and wall features.
36:22They finished big, dropping $49,000 on this challenge and spending every dime of their overall budget.
36:29But there's a lot to consider.
36:31We've got the biggest room, the living room, the decks, which are huge.
36:33The design detour under the decks.
36:35I already know.
36:36Oh.
36:36You already know?
36:37Yeah.
36:37I'm slightly on the fence.
36:39So if you two both have a different option, I might be the deciding factor.
36:49And we're back.
36:50Given that these were the last spaces to complete your lake house, we had really high expectations.
36:58And you've exceeded them.
37:00You didn't just finish that space.
37:03You completed the puzzle.
37:05You completed us.
37:06Yes.
37:08Marcy and Melissa, this is when the banquette and that false window kind of came into play.
37:13Yes.
37:14We were kind of worried about how that would transition into the room, but you had the seating behind it.
37:17And it was actually quite lovely.
37:19Just welcomed you in.
37:20It was so serene.
37:23You've got an incredible fireplace.
37:25I think that's probably the best feature in your space.
37:27First, I'm like, did they buy a limestone mantle?
37:30How did they afford it?
37:31And then I went up and I saw the trim work.
37:33Beautiful.
37:33I mean, that looks like a $5,000, $7,000 mantle.
37:36And then there were some really clever things.
37:38I feel like I'm learning from the two of you, like just your art piece with the ropes.
37:42It was just very cool.
37:44The one miss was the baskets.
37:46Okay.
37:46It was too much.
37:47Because there was too much depth on a lot of the baskets, it took away from what I really wanted
37:53to take in with the design.
37:55So those little things make a big difference.
37:58Yes.
37:59Your back deck, I love the way you set up the dining room table.
38:03The menus with the little Driftwood menu holders.
38:07You noticed it.
38:08We loved it.
38:08Attention to detail, 10 out of 10 this week.
38:12On your lower deck, it was just clean and simple down there.
38:16It wasn't just like a picture in a magazine.
38:17It was something you could actually live in.
38:20And as, oh.
38:22Sorry, that's so sweet.
38:23Yeah, of course.
38:25It seems like an emotional week.
38:26It's the last one.
38:28It's the end.
38:28It's all coming together.
38:29Taylor Meridan.
38:31Hi.
38:32I love your use of mixed materials.
38:35I loved the wall treatment.
38:38I absolutely loved the fact that you went all the way up with that kind of shuggy bun, horizontal wood.
38:44You really brought the eye up in the right way.
38:47The deck is great.
38:49It's the extension of the living room.
38:51You've doubled the square footage of the inside living space.
38:55On your lower deck, there was a hanging chair that felt like it came from a spacecraft and showed up
39:01at my Japanese traditional retreat.
39:04That was the one disconnect.
39:05I'm like, I don't understand it.
39:07Don't listen to that.
39:08That chair, I didn't mind it.
39:10Really great job.
39:11You have taken all these pieces, put them together, and now I'm seeing both of you kind of mature into
39:17this space that I'm seeing the totality of it.
39:19So, incredible job.
39:22Shallan and Liz.
39:23First team in the history of Renovation Resort at this point in the game to have claimed three wins.
39:29That's massive.
39:31Texas showed up.
39:32That's pretty sure.
39:33He did.
39:34Getting into the living room, first thing I noticed is that beautiful wallpaper framed perfectly, spaced perfectly with the windows,
39:41and I thought, I'm in a hotel I can't afford to stay in.
39:44The problem for me was, why is my eye not going all the way up to the ceiling?
39:50I felt like it was really cut short.
39:51You had your built-in, which well executed.
39:54I heard you built that.
39:56But it stopped, and I just wish that it would have gone all the way up.
40:01Outside, I loved the way you set up your living space so that you can enjoy the view.
40:06This is a beautiful layout.
40:08Down below, the bar is super fun.
40:10This is the house that the noise complaints are going to come to.
40:13Because that's what you're doing here.
40:15You're partying.
40:16You're at the bar.
40:16You're in the hot tub.
40:18You absolutely nailed it on that.
40:21Tatiana and Thomas, really excited walking into your space.
40:25It's not lost on me how much carpentry and skilled labor went into completing the fireplace and the trusses.
40:33You perfectly showcased the height of that house with the two faux trusses.
40:36That is exactly what I want and I expect when I go to a lake house.
40:41Wow moment on that fireplace.
40:43This has a presence.
40:44That's the best fireplace for sure.
40:46Open on three sides.
40:47That says premium all over it.
40:50The furniture and the layout, something didn't feel right to me.
40:53This is such a big room, but it didn't feel as deep because of the furniture.
40:58Going outside, I want to walk out of that bedroom and that's where I'd like to lounge and look this
41:03way.
41:03You kind of had everything looking this way.
41:05I would have done a furniture rotation.
41:07On your lower level, having something for everyone was great.
41:11Even the signage for like hot tub rules, you know this business and that has always been one of your
41:19big advantages.
41:19And you flexed it really well, I think, this week.
41:22No, thank you.
41:23But something I want to say to everybody, take a deep breath and look at what you have done.
41:29So cool.
41:31You should be so proud of yourselves.
41:34Enjoy this because what I'm about to say next is going to change the way that this competition works.
41:41We have not made a unanimous decision.
41:45We are ready to announce a tie.
41:49But only if all of you agree that two teams will share this win and the prize that comes with
41:56the win.
41:56And if you don't all agree to a tie, we're at risk of not agreeing to a winner at all.
42:01Can we huddle?
42:02Can we huddle?
42:02Yeah.
42:03It's a safe space.
42:04Does anyone feel they're not okay with the tie?
42:08And there's no judgment.
42:09I'm not surprised.
42:10Everyone is so talented and having it be the last room in the home, I'm sure everyone's giving it 110%.
42:17The prize must be a way that can be split.
42:20My lawyer skills are in effect and I feel like we've definitely made the right decision.
42:25What's the decision?
42:28What's the decision?
42:29For the tie.
42:30You want to hear a tie?
42:31Yes.
42:32Okay.
42:33The winners of Renovation Resort's living room and deck challenge are...
42:42Tatiana and Thomas and Taylor and Maragap.
42:46Oh my God.
42:49Congratulations.
42:51I'm in complete shock.
42:52Feels good.
42:53It also feels good to share it with our friends.
42:55Master carpenter.
42:57This win means so much.
42:59The judges recognize our living deck area as a winning space.
43:04Like that in itself blows my mind.
43:08Thanks to our friends at Wayfair, you will be sharing a prize of $10,000 cash.
43:15And you can bring even more style to your own home.
43:18So congratulations on the win.
43:23And look at that.
43:24These beautiful lake houses, don't they feel done?
43:27Mm-hmm.
43:28Well, maybe not completely.
43:31That's right.
43:32There is one last surprise waiting, which is going to push your creativity and your teamwork to the limit.
43:38So get ready for your final challenge.
43:41It looks like it's not the end for us.
43:43Nice to meet you.
43:45Congratulations on the win.
43:48Next time on Renovation Resort.
43:51$100,000 on the line right there.
43:54We gotta nail it.
43:54The teams face one final challenge.
43:57I worry that it's gonna crack.
43:58I don't have a plan B.
43:59With only six hours to leave their mark.
44:01What the heck happened?
44:03The pressure is on.
44:04Don't cry.
44:05And when the clock runs out.
44:07This is a $100,000 decision to be made.
44:09Everything will change for one team.
44:11The winning team is...
44:12Is...
