00:00Wanted to try a little something Cowboys best and worst for the day.
00:05We have a couple of different directions.
00:07That sounds cool.
00:07That we can go with this.
00:09All right, let's do it.
00:09Would you like to start with the best or the worst?
00:15You know what, Kevin?
00:16There is a lot of regarding the Rangers.
00:20That's fair.
00:21You know, and it looks like we do have a bit of a storm cell working its way through here
00:26in DFW.
00:27So I think we should go with the Rangers.
00:30Let's get some positivity injection here.
00:33Pull up the Cowboys schedule.
00:34All right.
00:35And I want you to tell me.
00:37By the way, where do you go for the Cowboys schedule?
00:41Which one do you like to look at the most?
00:43I think I've been preconditioned to ESPN.
00:46I'm right there with you.
00:47It's the layout of it that makes it easy for me to see everything right there.
00:52The Cowboys go to their website.
00:54It's like you've got to scroll six times.
00:55Yes.
00:57I'm trying to get things in a compact little area.
00:59Exactly.
01:00Look at us.
01:00What about you, Alec?
01:02It's ESPN for me.
01:03There you go.
01:03Especially because they tell you what network it's on, too.
01:07Yes.
01:07So you know if it's prime time or not.
01:09That helps.
01:09That's a good point.
01:10Smart job.
01:11All right.
01:11I want y'all to look at this and tell me what do you think is the best game or
01:14game you're
01:15most excited about on their schedule.
01:17I'll give you a minute to ponder that.
01:18But also, since you mentioned the weather, I know this is just how the weather works.
01:22But do you still ever think it's weird when you look up into the sky and maybe over your
01:27head it's super cloudy or it's about to really pour down and you just turn your head
01:31slightly to the right?
01:33And you're like, but it's sunny right there.
01:36I'm like, why don't they're so close?
01:40Have you ever seen it rain with the sun out?
01:42You know, yes.
01:43And that always freaks me out.
01:45That, uh...
01:46Where is this coming from?
01:48I don't believe I've ever seen it rain with no clouds.
01:51I feel like that would terrify me.
01:53I guess I'm lucky.
01:53But also, I remember when I was driving once and I could see the line where the rain stopped
01:57and I thought that was really neat.
01:59That is kind of cool.
02:00I was like, oh, I can just drive up there.
02:01There's no more rain.
02:01What about a double rainbow?
02:04We had one last week, on Friday, I believe.
02:07Was that guy stoned when he was like, oh...
02:09That guy was?
02:10No, no, seriously.
02:11No, I know.
02:11This weekend we had one.
02:13We got an email about it.
02:14It was awesome.
02:15I kind of read it and I deleted it and then I wanted to block every single Nimrod that
02:20texted the whole chain.
02:22Adrian and Avery and Carter, they all ran outside to look at it and I was like, I'm busy.
02:26Neat.
02:26I've seen rainbows before.
02:28They get their jump ropes and just start having a good old time.
02:30Here, give me a prism.
02:32I'll make a double rainbow.
02:33All right, so I am very excited.
02:36This is weird of me to be this excited about it, but because it is a neutral location, even
02:41though it's a home game, I'm very excited about playing Baltimore.
02:45Okay.
02:45In Rio de Janeiro.
02:47It's going to be...
02:48This is...
02:49Yeah, first off, it's been in Brazil.
02:51Thank you, Vin Diesel.
02:53But it's going to be one of those, you're early in the season, I'm hoping the energy
03:00from another country also is like off the charts.
03:04And I think that's what the NFL hopes too, right?
03:06Sure.
03:07That's what kind of comes off there.
03:08That game right there is probably the one I'm looking forward to the most so early in
03:13the season.
03:13The next one would probably be the Rams.
03:16Okay.
03:17At the Rams, because that's a late test of what your team is versus what I think is going
03:23to be another playoff contender.
03:24All right, Alec, I'm going to kick it over to you as well.
03:27What is the best game, the game you're most excited about on the Cowboys schedule?
03:33I would probably lean Seattle.
03:36That's kind of what I was thinking.
03:38It's kind of a low-hanging fruit, right?
03:40You get the reigning Super Bowl champion or big game champion, if you will.
03:43But it's on the road in an environment that is known for being ridiculous and known for
03:49being stupidly loud.
03:51So I'm kind of excited to see how the offense manages, one, on the road in general, but two,
03:56in an environment like that where the 12s, the fans out there in Seattle are just going
04:00to be ruckus.
04:01And I bet they are probably going to have a winning record and they're probably going
04:06to look like playoff contenders the Seattle Seahawks are going to.
04:10So I think it's going to be a good late part of the season test going into your bye week
04:15too.
04:16So that's going to have a lot of emotional value for me because if you can go into the
04:21bye week with a win on the road over the reigning champs, I'm probably going to be on
04:25these airwaves talking crazy.
04:28So I love that.
04:30I am going to go with, I think the Seattle one makes a whole lot of sense.
04:35I'm going to go with week 10 hosting against San Francisco.
04:39You wanted that to be the bye week.
04:41I did, but then they're like, Hey, let's give you the latest bye week in the season and
04:45the latest one you've had in 36 years.
04:47That's fine.
04:48You think that they can beat the Niners in the middle of a terrible section of their
04:55schedule where they can beat those other opponents?
04:58Exactly.
04:58And that's why I can't help but let my mind wander, right?
05:02Because you look at those last three games, those all feel like winnable games.
05:06Now I'm not trying to strictly discount Jacksonville.
05:09Maybe they'll turn out to still be really, really good and you'll be an underdog in that
05:13game following the Rams game.
05:15But then you host New York and then on the road against Washington, those feel like certainly
05:19winnable games.
05:20Hosting Arizona is probably the worst team in the NFL.
05:23Feels winnable.
05:24At the Colts, same thing.
05:25Hosting Tennessee, they don't look like they're going to be that great either going into the
05:29Thanksgiving game.
05:30And then you have San Francisco, which feels in theory like the most difficult game.
05:35And if you can beat them, who you have frequently struggled against, then all of a sudden I'm
05:41looking at it and I'm like, man, do we got a full-blown winning streak going in to that
05:47game against Philadelphia?
05:47And that's interesting.
05:48Yeah.
05:49Then knowing you get the mini-bye going into Seattle.
05:54But.
05:55But.
05:56Alec, what happened last year when we played three bad teams in a row?
05:59Oh, yeah.
06:00We got our hopes up, Corey.
06:02Started believing we were better than we were.
06:04Now, did you mention, though, maybe you're good before that, too?
06:09Yeah, we'll be.
06:09We'll be.
06:10And we'll be significantly later in the season.
06:12Because you'll already have played seven games by that point.
06:15And so if you're three and four, let's say, and you win those four games, I'm like, whew,
06:20you're back above water.
06:21Maybe you can make the playoffs.
06:22But you believe your team is an average team?
06:25You're fine.
06:26Yeah, and you'd have to run through at least two and one on the gauntlet.
06:29If you're five and two and run into that section.
06:32And then you beat them.
06:33Hey, I don't care what anybody says.
06:34We're nine and two.
06:35Yeah, gotcha.
06:35Yeah.
06:36Whereas on the flip side, even if I'm seven and four, then I'm like, all right, then I
06:39need to go two and one against Philly, Seattle, and the Rams.
06:42Then I'll be like, okay.
06:43Yeah.
06:43Maybe we are really good.
06:45Makes sense.
06:46On the flip side, worst game on the schedule or game you're least looking forward to?
06:51Oh, Arizona.
06:53Week eight.
06:53Is my answer as well because of what y'all brought up.
06:57Arizona looks like they're going to be the drizzling S this year.
07:01They're underdogged in every single game that they have.
07:04But Arizona also gives us fits, whether we're good, bad, or indifferent.
07:09So I could see rolling into that game against winless Arizona and it being in the fourth quarter
07:15and you're like, what the hell is happening?
07:17All right, Kevin, since 2008, I'm going to go through 2008, at Arizona, lost in overtime,
07:2630-24.
07:27At Arizona in 2010, lost 27-26.
07:34At Arizona, 2011, lost in overtime, 19-13.
07:40At home, lost 28-17.
07:45All right, so now we're to 2017, Kevin.
07:46Since 2017, according to the football database, we have won one out of five matchups with Arizona.
07:55So that would put us, since 2008, winning one out of nine matchups with Arizona.
08:01Yeah, and if they come in winless and that stuff's still staring you in the face, you're like, oh, no.
08:07So that's where I'm just like, it doesn't matter where we're playing them.
08:10Arizona, for whatever reason, we are their Super Bowl.
08:13Yeah.
08:14We are, the Cowboys are like, they're like, we will be there.
08:17Even when we're there and it's still mostly a home game.
08:19Yeah, so I just don't trust, I just don't trust the Cowboys.
08:22That's why that game is the one I'm least looking forward to.
08:25I am right there with you.
08:27They could be 0 and whatever at that point, because I don't know when their bye week is.
08:31But they could be 0 and 8, 0 and 7.
08:33And then I'll be like, nope, don't care.
08:35Mr. Medford.
08:38I mean, the obvious answer is Arizona, but I want to be different here.
08:42I'm actually going to go a week later, week nine at Indianapolis, because what are you?
08:48Like, are you serious?
08:50Are you a fringe playoff team?
08:53Are you an average team?
08:54Are you below average?
08:56I don't know what to think about the Indianapolis Colts.
08:59And I feel like I'm still going to have that same mentality going into that game.
09:04Like, they kind of exist.
09:07You know, like an uncommon opponent.
09:09Cool.
09:10You get to go to a stadium that you don't get to play in often.
09:13Cool.
09:14Other than Jonathan Taylor, there's not much intrigue there.
09:18They didn't change much this offseason.
09:20They traded away one of my favorite players that they had in Michael Pittman Jr.
09:25Uh, they had the Alec Pierce contract that maybe that's the conversation going into that
09:31game is maybe we're talking about, oh, they got a steal with that contract.
09:35Maybe we aren't talking about it at all because it's the Colts and they just kind of exist.
09:40I'm not looking forward to that game because I don't think there's anything really entertaining
09:43about that matchup.
09:45Interesting.
09:45Now, let's change what we're discussing, but go back to the worst.
09:51The worst contracts in the NFC East.
09:57How many of those do you think would belong to the Cowboys?
10:02What do you think are the worst Cowboys contracts?
10:04This is the Jimmy Kemski of the Philly Voice.
10:09Is it biased towards the Eagles?
10:10The worst Cowboys contracts right now?
10:13What do you think they are, Alec?
10:14Who would you say kind of stick out to you?
10:17I'm interested if there is a Philly bias here.
10:20Does Terrence Steele make the list?
10:23He did not.
10:24Ooh.
10:25I would probably think, there's Philly bias here, Dak.
10:30Everybody hates Dak.
10:31Okay.
10:32Probably a cornerback that was recently signed to a significant contract and has underperformed
10:37and he had to draft more cornerbacks.
10:39See, and that's where I think this list is a little bit off.
10:44Okay.
10:45Probably more than a little bit off.
10:47Because the only Cowboys on there are Deron Bland at 10 and Dak Prescott at 1.
10:53CeeDee Lamb's not in there.
10:55Is that a good contract for the Cowboys?
10:57I think that's a good contract.
10:58All right.
10:58Or at least, at the very least, I think it's a neutral contract.
11:03Right?
11:04Deron Bland, yeah, that's an actively bad deal.
11:07There are some haters out there, I believe they're haters, that would call CeeDee Lamb
11:11a No. 2 receiver.
11:12But at this point, George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb did prove that they can play as No. 1s
11:18without each other on the field.
11:21CeeDee Lamb had struggles this year, but he still produced numbers.
11:24Yeah.
11:25Look, if you think CeeDee Lamb is a No. 2 receiver, I don't know what to tell you besides
11:29you are wrong.
11:31In three of the last four seasons, he's been an All-Pro.
11:34I know last year was a tougher season, but the three seasons before that, he was second
11:38team All-Pro, a.k.a. one of the best six in the league, twice, and first team All-Pro,
11:43a.k.a. one of the best three in the league.
11:46So the three prior seasons, the worst he was was a top six receiver.
11:50In what universe is that a No. 2 wide receiver?
11:54In the 1939 NFL, when there might have only been six teams?
11:59I don't remember.
12:00If you were looking at this last year, Kevin, coming into the season,
12:05everybody kept, George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb kept telling us, we're both No. 1 receivers.
12:10Sure.
12:10Did they prove that?
12:12I think they did, because George Pickens was second team All-Pro.
12:14Everybody scoffed at that idea.
12:15Second team All-Pro.
12:16Everybody scoffed at the idea of it, but after, when given new information, the scoffing
12:22needed to cease and desist.
12:24Yeah.
12:24And then, how did we respond?
12:26Eh, maybe we'll give you a contract, maybe we won't.
12:28But, yeah, so Deron Bland is 10 on this list.
12:32Dak Prescott is 1.
12:35I think the Dak Prescott contract, it's obviously a bad deal.
12:40And I know people are-
12:41There's nothing you can do about it.
12:42Yeah, look, and you can take that in whatever context you want.
12:45The fact is, it's a bad deal because you far outpaced the market.
12:51And when everyone was like, well, the market always goes past in the next one, then you
12:55have multiple deals, including Josh Allen, that did not and were $5 million cheaper.
13:02So, the Cowboys signed a bad deal.
13:04That is undisputable.
13:06Like, there's nothing that you can say to be like, well, actually, which is a great bit.
13:10But in this instance, it will not work.
13:13But the worst contract in the NFC East, I think that is a little silly.
13:17However, the positive part of it is, those are the only two.
13:23So, you've got Dak at 1, and you have Deron Bland at 10, which is-
13:27Not like the stars where you're just like, we've got a bunch of $12 million deals and
13:30we're out of money.
13:31Which, by the way, yeah.
13:32I mean, I hope Jason Roberts is good with $12 million a year.
13:36Because if he's not, I don't know.
13:37That's what guys get paid on that team, Kevin.
13:40Yeah.
13:40I mean, I guess so.
13:41But, so it's not necessarily an Eagles bias.
13:44I thought it was going to be when the only Eagle I saw at first was the kicker.
13:48And I was like, hold on.
13:49What are we doing here?
13:50The Cowboys have two.
13:51The Eagles have two.
13:52The Commanders have three.
13:54And the Giants have three.
13:55So, you know, some would argue it's lazy and too well balanced based on how the hierarchy
14:00of this division actually goes.
14:02But Javon Kinlaw is second on that list in case you really wanted to know.
14:09And so, the Commanders also have three and they also have four.
14:13So, for the Commanders, it's tough because they have Owe at three and Payne at four.
14:20And so, they're like, hey, if you play defensive line anywhere on the defensive line for the
14:25Commanders, I think you got paid disproportionately.
14:29That's what it, that's what at least what it felt like.
14:31And Quinn got you paid.
14:31Yeah.
