00:00All right, we've got a Cowboys, let's say, news dump for you to start everything off.
00:06First off, a sad note.
00:07Can you go ahead and give me cut number six, please?
00:127-7 game.
00:14Morton.
00:16And Bob Hayes is there for a beautiful catch and a Dallas touchdown.
00:21And a lot of excitement on that call.
00:23So, Craig Morton.
00:24That's how they did it back then.
00:25They just had to talk like this all the time.
00:28They were really mad when Howard Cosell started telling stories along with different things.
00:33Love Howard Cosell.
00:35So, Craig Morton died at the age of 83.
00:40First came to the Cowboys in 1965.
00:43He served mainly as Danny Don Meredith's backup.
00:46But then he started getting his playing time really as the main starter in 1969 after Don Meredith retired.
00:54That Dallas team went 10-2-1.
00:56He eventually had a shoulder surgery or a shoulder injury that caused him to miss some time.
01:04And then eventually he got to the Cowboys to the 1970 Super Bowl.
01:09So, Super Bowl V.
01:10And then, of course, in 1971 there was the bizarre, yet I guess it was very effective, experiment of rotating
01:18him and Staubach out series by series.
01:22And then at one point, play-by-play, and then he fell behind Roger.
01:27They went on to win the Super Bowl.
01:29And then he went to the Broncos where he lost to the Cowboys in the Super Bowl.
01:33But very well-known Cowboys quarterback.
01:35First quarterback playing two Super Bowls for a different team.
01:39Is that right?
01:39Uh-huh.
01:40Oh, I didn't know that.
01:41It's amazing to kind of look at stats back then and see a dude that, like, his career high in
01:46passing yards was 3,100 yards.
01:49Yeah.
01:49At the time, could have been mind-boggling.
01:51It, like, averaged, like, 1,800, you know, over his career.
01:55But, like, that was, as you just said, that was kind of the game back then.
01:59It was the position was leadership and all those qualities that came along with it.
02:04But he was a fascinating story, man.
02:07Yeah.
02:07He really was.
02:08Yeah.
02:09And I believe the trade that the Cowboys made for him turned out to be the pick that the Cowboys
02:18used to select Randy White.
02:20Look at that.
02:21And then Randy White was co-MVP of the Super Bowl where they beat the Broncos and Craig Morton.
02:27How about that?
02:29That's painful.
02:30I mean.
02:31Why'd you have to rub that in, Kevin?
02:32Oh, but we won that Super Bowl.
02:34It was good for us, yeah.
02:35Oh, okay.
02:37All right.
02:37Mr. Morton.
02:38The Cowboys are going to play the Eagles on Thanksgiving Day.
02:43Does that add to your intrigue?
02:46Do you ever really care about who the Thanksgiving opponent is?
02:48Or do you know that, like, your family's going to be locked in, so you'll be locked in and everything,
02:53regardless of who the Cowboys are playing on Thanksgiving?
02:55I'll be honest.
02:56I want the Thanksgiving game to be like homecoming in high school.
03:02You schedule the weakest opponent on your schedule.
03:05Ooh.
03:06And they did.
03:07You defeat them handily, and everybody's happy, and y'all get to go to the dance together,
03:12and everything's good, all right?
03:14I don't want to risk anything on Thanksgiving.
03:17I want it to just be a nice, easy war zone, all right?
03:20If you would have gotten to choose right now, which opponent would you have picked then?
03:28Like, I guess Washington.
03:30Ooh.
03:31But I also don't want to play.
03:32Oh, okay.
03:33I also don't want to play an NFC East opponent on those, because again, I don't want it to matter.
03:39I don't want that game to matter.
03:41Most likely, most of the time, doesn't it feel like you're on a short, even shorter week
03:45for some reason when it's the Cowboys?
03:47So you're on the short week, and it's got everything going on around it.
03:51Now, I know it's the same way for other people, but I just don't even want to risk it.
03:54All right.
03:55So, Alec, regardless of who's supposed to be on your schedule,
03:58who would you have picked to be the homecoming Thanksgiving opponent?
04:02If you could pick the worst team, who is it right now?
04:05Jets?
04:06Yeah, probably.
04:09Honestly, because that adds a little bit of intrigue, too, just because they had a really
04:13good draft.
04:13So you could say, hey, cool, we could see some fun names and win by 17.
04:18You know, like, that would be fun.
04:20It's just like you said.
04:21It's like the homecoming game.
04:23For us in high school, it was always, who was it?
04:26It was Paschal every year that we would play.
04:29Him taking a shot at Paschal.
04:30Yeah.
04:32Rivalry's not unnecessary, dude.
04:34I think that the tables turned a little bit because I think we booked them a little
04:38bit after I graduated high school and they whooped us and I was like, oh, we should probably
04:42stop doing that.
04:43But yeah, I definitely want a win.
04:45But at the same time, I've never cared about the schedule.
04:48I really haven't.
04:49Play the games.
04:50Let's look at our home games real quick of the Giants, Eagles, Commanders, Cardinals.
04:55I don't want to play the Cardinals.
04:56For some reason, I think the Cardinals are going to beat us, even though I know things happen.
05:00Carson Beck!
05:01I know!
05:01I know!
05:02I know!
05:02And it's a home game, not in the desert.
05:04So I get it.
05:05The Niners, Bucks, Jags, Titans, and Ravens.
05:08But that one's in Brazil.
05:09Ooh.
05:10Titans?
05:11Yeah.
05:11I guess the Titans?
05:14That's probably...
05:15Home schedule's tough this year.
05:16Of that group, that's probably who I would have picked.
05:18By the way...
05:19Home schedule's tough, too.
05:20So the Cowboys open the season on the road against the Giants.
05:24We talked about that yesterday.
05:25What do you think the point spread is for that game?
05:27And if you think point spreads at this point are ridiculous, I can concede that.
05:34Um...
05:35Three and a half.
05:36In favor of?
05:37Cowboys.
05:37Cowboys are one and a half point favorites going into that game against the Giants.
05:44Wow.
05:45So...
05:46Is that a good thing?
05:47I mean, don't you think there's a little Harbaugh bump in there?
05:50Probably so.
05:50They're like, yeah, maybe that guy.
05:52And how good is this Cowboys defense?
05:54We don't know anything enough yet.
05:56You know?
05:57So...
05:57That makes a little bit of sense there.
05:58Oh, man.
05:59These questions are getting harder.
06:00Ronda Rousey or Karl Malone?
06:02I guess I'd have to pick Rousey in that instance.
06:05I don't like these questions.
06:07Do you have your rankings?
06:08No, I've never thought about that grouping of people before.
06:14But that is...
06:15Man, that is a good question.
06:17Maybe I'll have to put together the power of hate rankings.
06:19Power of hate kings?
06:21Uh...
06:21Eh...
06:22All right.
06:23Power of hate kings.
06:24Okay.
06:24I like that one better.
06:26All right.
06:26So Tommy Arish was writing about this yesterday.
06:30And I wanted to get your take.
06:31And it's kind of ironic that Bobby Belt is here at this moment.
06:34What do you expect this season or the next steps to look like for Donovan Ezraku?
06:41Because obviously he didn't get the sack numbers.
06:44But among rookies, third and run stops, fourth and QB pressures, fourth and tackles.
06:50We were talking about the lack of a pass rush yesterday.
06:53What do you think this year's Ezraku could look like?
06:57I think he should be in the six, six and a half sack range this year.
07:01Tackle numbers should be up.
07:03No, not seven.
07:04I didn't go that far, Bobby.
07:05But it's like six and a half is kind of the number that I would shoot for for him this
07:09year.
07:10And then see how he does.
07:12Again, add up those tackles.
07:14See how he does in some other coverage, potential coverage situations.
07:17I have lots of ideas of what I want for him.
07:20But the scheme could look very different.
07:23And there could be.
07:24I think, Kevin, the best idea would be to have pass rush from so many different places that it's, as
07:30we discuss, confusing to the quarterback.
07:32That does seem to be.
07:34I think we have lots of guys across the entire seven that are in that number where you're just like,
07:39no, it's just, it was suffocating.
07:41And that was the more, that was the thing that proved to be more of a problem.
07:45Not that I need a dude that has 15 all the time.
07:48Because even though you had Miles Garrett, the Browns still stunk.
07:52Their defense was good, though.
07:53Do you think we could convince, I guess you'd call it a double or nothing bet for Bobby and Sean,
07:59hair versus hair.
08:00Oh, wow.
08:00Based on Ezraku.
08:01So, a specific number where Sean might shave his head.
08:05That's right.
08:07And Bobby could potentially go for it again.
08:10I still thought Bobby looked nice.
08:11Bobby's saying no here.
08:13Yeah, I think everybody thought that.
08:14Except for him, who never looked.
08:16Yeah.
08:17What if he looked and found out, this is me?
08:19Oh.
08:20You know?
08:20And then, yeah, this was a very, um, Hugh Jackman, if you will.
08:26Except hopefully far less need over.
08:27The greatest showman, okay.
08:29Yeah.
08:29Is that a no, Bobby?
08:31Safe to say that won't be happening?
08:33Uh, yeah.
08:34This scheme doesn't get a lot of pass rush, so that wouldn't happen.
08:38But, I will put my hair on the line if you'll just report the Angel Reese trade and stop cowardly
08:44running from it.
08:46We've talked about it so, so many times.
08:49And I just, the part of the scheme not getting a lot of pass rush, you can get sacks, but
08:56there are going to be coverage responsibility for that.
08:58That's what's going to create, it's the way that the secondary looks that's going to create the pressure when you
09:04get them.
09:05The last, there's, there's two ways that you can frustrate a quarterback generally.
09:11And it's by speeding up his clock, so pass rush, or by confusing his eyes, confusing his reads.
09:17So, the Parker, Fangio, coming from Elko even, it's more about confusing the quarterback's brain and his reads than anything
09:26else.
09:26That's why, I mean, if you look at the last five years, the staffs Christian Parker's been on, the teams
09:29he's been on, the high sack number in a year was eight from the Broncos in 2023.
09:35Or 22.
09:36Okay.
09:36Hence the lack of hair versus hair.
