00:00This summer's heatwaves have provided a very visible reminder of a changing climate.
00:06And according to a survey from YouGov, 71% of people think it's likely the recent hot weather was the
00:13result of climate change.
00:14But YouGov's research conducted at the end of June, immediately after the record-breaking heatwave,
00:19suggests that recognition has not translated into a significant shift in wider attitudes.
00:25We've been on the streets of Liverpool to ask if you're worried about climate change.
00:30Yeah, we are worried. Everybody needs to do their best, recycle and all that.
00:35Global warming is a phenomenon, now you can see it all around you.
00:38People don't realise this, you know, we're getting hotter and hotter in England.
00:46I think in the years to come we're going to end up like Australia and Australia's going to end up

00:51I could argue the toss about global cooler.
00:53My time's nearly, well, not totally up, but it's getting there.
00:57But for the children of the future, I do feel for them because it is getting hotter and it's getting...

01:05More uncomfortable and, you know, you've just got to think of the kids' future.
01:10What's it going to be like for them?
01:12It's two sides of an argument. Depends what side you look at it.
01:15Both of them have got a valid point.
01:16You've got to meet somewhere in the middle and understand they're just trying to lie and say,
01:21oh, it's our fault when we've got a little impact on it.
01:24But we couldn't change the world if we tried.
01:26The world's getting hotter. It's definitely getting hotter.
01:31I think it's the new norm now.
01:33I mean, when I was the Curtain, we had summers.
01:35We had lovely summers.
01:37But it seems to be hotter than what it used to be.
01:41We used to have snow up to here.
01:44It will be our new normal.
01:45I don't think we're equipped for it.
01:47Because I remember back in the 70s, we used to have six months of summer, six months of winter.
01:51And we used to have the winter, like, to compensate the summer.
01:54But now, it's unpredictable now.
01:57One day you have this, one day you can have the four seasons in one day.
02:01It's not reversible.
02:02I think, you know, you can't predict the weather.
02:07You can't predict what's going to be like.
02:09You can't stop it.
02:11I don't think you can stop it.
02:12I think it's just going to go like that.

02:16I like the sun, really.
02:17Yeah, the only thing is, the heat, it gets rid of, like, all the tiny ponds
02:23and small, like, little, small little lakes.
02:25And then you're talking about the wildlife, like the frogs.
02:27You wonder why you don't see any frogs no more?
02:29There's a heat wave we had about five years ago when it broke the record.
02:32That dried up a lot of the ponds in the whole of England.
02:35And now we don't see any frogs.
02:36Because if we haven't got air con, we're not, we're not that type of,
02:40obviously in the future, I think we will have, we will have to get it.
02:44If it gets that way where the heat is not going to flip around,
02:48that's what they're going to have to do.
02:50Birds, I've got less to eat, and, you know, there's less frog spawn,
02:53there's less stuff for the fish to eat, there's less food.
02:56But they'll find a way.
02:57Life finds a way.
