00:00Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to Monday Night Raw!
00:03We are live!
00:04Monday Night Raw,
00:06the longest-running weekly episodic television show in history.
00:10The champ is earned!
00:12And perhaps no decade defines Raw's unpredictability
00:16and spectacle quite like the 2000s.
00:18From blistering confrontations...
00:20Just bring it!
00:21Bring what? A vomit bag?
00:23...to mesmerizing matches...
00:26Bring it!
00:27Oh, my God, in heaven!
00:29The first decade of the millennium brought nothing but incredible action.
00:33Today, we take a look back at the best Raw moments of the 2000s.
00:38This is WWE's Greatest Moments.
00:43Who feels so mad!
00:45Oh, my God, what the hell are you doing?
00:49Absolutely unbelievable!
00:51Welcome, baby, out of history!
00:59Welcome, everyone, to WWE's Greatest Moments.
01:02I'm Michael Cole, and on this edition,
01:04we're looking back at some of the best Monday Night Raw moments of the 2000s.
01:08Raw has always served as WWE's flagship program,
01:12ever since its original broadcast back in 1993.
01:16And over time, the show has evolved into a mainstay in pop culture.
01:21Speaking of evolution,
01:22One aptly named group once stood tall as a force to be reckoned with on the red brand.
01:28What you see in this ring before you is the greatest example of evolution you will ever see.
01:34Led by the World Heavyweight Champion Triple H,
01:37Evolution featured the past, present, and future of sports entertainment.
01:41The animal known as Batista emerging as a sure-fire superstar.
01:47The status was solidified when Batista won the 2005 Royal Rumble.
01:52But the animal was faced with a mighty decision.
01:54Go after JBL's WWE Championship on SmackDown, or face his mentor Triple H.
02:01Sometimes Dave is not smart enough to know what's good for him.
02:07Tonight, Batista won't decide if he will go to WrestleMania representing Raw or representing SmackDown.
02:15Dave was just growing so fast that I could see him being this main event caliber, larger-than-life guy.
02:23It was Batista's breakout moment.
02:26Rick and Hunter are just trying to like,
02:27Okay, obviously you're gonna pick the SmackDown guy, right?
02:30Because you can't go after your mentor.
02:32I've known what I was gonna do for a long time.
02:37There was rumblings, but you could tell that they were just waiting for this to just pop off.
02:42It felt right.
02:56The thumbs-up, thumbs-down moment was for Dave Batista.
03:01That was the moment of,
03:03Alright kid, we're gonna go with you.
03:06What is he doing?
03:07Look at him!
03:09If you do this, I'm gonna go Johnny Ben!
03:11No!
03:14And I really started to become real.
03:16I just can't believe this happened in my career.
03:18I mean, it's taken off.
03:19It was something special.
03:21At WrestleMania,
03:23I'm taking the World Championship
03:27from you!
03:29I think it was one of the things that really helped just,
03:32put the stamp on Dave of like,
03:35Yeah, forget the era that came before me, I'm the guy.
03:41Wcześniej w 2000 roku, równa się stworzyła,
03:44led by two Hall of Famers looking to prove
03:46that the women can perform to the same caliber
03:49of their male counterparts.
03:51WWE Women's Champion Trish Stratus
03:53and her top rival Lita.
03:55If you think you're going to get my title,
03:57keep dreaming.
03:59I've been dreaming for the past seven months
04:01about the day I get my hands on you.
04:04And on the December 6, 2004 episode of Raw,
04:07for the first time in WWE history,
04:09two women with main event Monday Night Raw.
04:15Ladies and gentlemen, we have been waiting a long time
04:18for this opportunity.
04:20We walked into the building and we were told
04:22that we would be main eventing Monday Night Raw.
04:25Wow.
04:26And it's all about the title,
04:28but I think it's about a whole lot more.
04:30We had some really strong personalities,
04:31but it wasn't like a women's wrestling division
04:34where they could truly show off their athleticism.
04:3650% was like, oh, my God, I can't believe this is happening.
04:40Oh, yes!
04:41Oh, my gosh!
04:42The other 50% was, you're damn right this is happening.
04:46Lita's got no business up here.
04:47It's all or nothing.
04:48No!
04:48All or nothing to the moves home!
04:52My God, Lita did it!
04:54Lita did it, King!
04:55Seeing history being made in 2004
04:58and the main event of Raw inspired an entire generation.
05:03I can't believe the effort of Hart both women displayed!
05:10There's nothing quite like a bit of good old-fashioned smack talk,
05:13and there's no superstar who has mastered the art of a diss better than The Rock.
05:17Hold on, cacao, hello!
05:19Hey, it's nothing!
05:20He says he knows you!
05:21You're nothing!
05:22And on February 24th, 2003's episode of Monday Night Raw,
05:26live from Toronto, Canada,
05:28The Rock would let our neighbors to the north know exactly what he thinks
05:31about their great city.
05:35What a mixed reaction as it relates to The Rock here.
05:49It was a recipe for phenomenal success,
05:53and success just in terms of fans loving to hate me.
05:58The Rock said he wanted to go live Monday Night on Raw.
06:02More importantly than that, The Rock said he wanted to come right here
06:05to Toronto, Canada!
06:08Oh, wait a minute, are you kidding The Rock?
06:10Look, is this the first time you've ever heard someone mention your city?
06:13Is that it?
06:14Oh, yay!
06:15Hooray!
06:16He said Toronto!
06:18He said my city!
06:19Yay!
06:21Whoopee!
06:22Woo!
06:22Dang, that's where we live!
06:24We live in Toronto!
06:26Yay!
06:26Shut up!
06:27As a Torontonian, we did want to cheer The Rock,
06:29and he did not let us.
06:31It doesn't matter what you people think!
06:36When he really leaned into not trying to get cheered
06:38is when he was at his absolute best,
06:40because it's something new and it's really entertaining.
06:43The Rock is stronger than a bear!
06:45Faster than a buck!
06:46The biggest thing to hit Canada,
06:47because the Maple Leafs suck!
06:53Still to come.
06:54I now own WCW!
06:58How do you feel about headlining
07:00one more WrestleMania with The Rock!
07:04The saga of the Big Red Machine Kane
07:06is one of the WWE's most dramatic and strange stories.
07:10Hell's favorite demon wore a mask to hide what many thought to be
07:13a disfigured appearance.
07:15But others believed it kept him emotionally stable and protected.
07:19Kane's facewear also caught the attention of World Heavyweight Champion Triple H,
07:23as he wanted to see who, or what, was under the mask.
07:27Kane, I promised you that before this night was over,
07:32your life would never be the same.
07:34The game and The Big Red Machine would clash for the world title,
07:37with one unique stipulation added to the match.
07:40If Kane loses, he must unmask.
07:46Kane must become the World's Heavyweight Champion,
07:49or he must unmask!
07:50Go!
07:50And here we go!
07:51The reason I needed a mask, Kane had been burnt in a fire
07:55and had been a Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, silent entity.
08:00And you have Triple H, who is cerebral assassin.
08:04No!
08:04I want to blow!
08:06And the power!
08:07We're gonna see that face!
08:09No!
08:09Pick it up!
08:10Yeah!
08:11The Kane character had gone as far as the mask would allow.
08:15I don't know if we want to see it.
08:17Yeah!
08:17Yeah!
08:17I do want to see it!
08:18Him taking off his mask for the first time,
08:21it was like, oh my gosh, like, everyone wanted to see that.
08:24Here it comes!
08:28What the hell is this?
08:30Oh my God!
08:33What the hell?
08:35When Kane lost the mask, it was a brand new character.
08:39and you wanted to be watching Monday Night Raw
08:42because you wanted to see what was going to happen.
08:44What the hell is that?
08:46Get a shot in that face!
08:48Is that a human?
08:51In the mid to late 1990s, the Monday Night War was in full effect.
08:55The WWE and rival promotion, WCW, battled it out
08:58in the world of television ratings,
09:00fueled by their staple Monday Night programs, Raw and Nitro.
09:04In case you're tempted to check out the competition, don't bother!
09:08However, that war came to an end in March 2001
09:10as WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon purchased his competition.
09:15Here I am on WCW television.
09:19How can that happen?
09:21On the March 26th episode of Raw,
09:23our first of its kind simulcast of the two Monday Night shows
09:26hit the airwaves in a moment that will alter the landscape
09:28of professional wrestling forever.
09:34This broadcast is not only being seen here on TNN,
09:39but is also being seen across Turner Network Television.
09:44The last Nitro was surreal, and you kind of felt like, what's next?
09:50WCW is buried!
09:53For any of us that were in WCW at the time,
09:56we didn't have much insight on backstage gossip.
10:00I just knew that the rumor was that that night,
10:02the company was going to close down.
10:04I own WCW!
10:06I own the WWF!
10:08And you will treat me with respect!
10:13I'll walk out of this arena!
10:19Shane McMahon is on Nitro!
10:22What in the hell is he doing?!
10:23I was down at Panama City,
10:25and no one knew really what was going on with WCW.
10:29Surprise, Dad!
10:31The name of the contract does Shane McMahon.
10:34However, the contract reads Shane McMahon.
10:40I knew how historic that night was going to be.
10:43I now own WCW!
10:50Still to come.
10:51Oh my God!
10:54I am the game!
11:00WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle built his legendary career
11:04on the back of his incredible in-ring ability and technical wizardry.
11:07But the Olympic gold medalist's most underrated aspect
11:10was arguably his comedic chops.
11:12I got Olympic gold!
11:15I got Olympic gold!
11:16I got Olympic gold!
11:18But on the August 20th, 2001 episode of RAW,
11:22the wrestling machine looked to embarrass the members of the alliance.
11:27Tonight is Stone Cold Steve Austin Appreciation Night!
11:32Thank you.
11:34Thank you.
11:34When I was beaten the living hell out of Kurt Angle last night,
11:38I won it.
11:43I made a milk truck!
11:45The Olympic hero driving a milk truck into the arena
11:49and spraying down Stone Cold Steve Austin with a bunch of milk.
11:52It was a lot of fun.
11:53Oh my God!
11:55That's milk!
11:56That's milk!
11:57That's milk!
11:57Milk on the media!
11:58It's running wild!
12:00Kurt, he just wanted to entertain the crowd.
12:03And if that meant spraying milk on everybody,
12:06he was just all about entertaining.
12:08That's milk for that madness!
12:10My God!
12:10I personally will never ever forget being sprayed by that milk truck.
12:15The Million Dollar Princess has to come!
12:19Very clean!
12:20There was a real great chemistry between the Stone Cold character and Kurt Angle.
12:25As much as I enjoyed the matches with him,
12:27I enjoyed the gaga part of it just as much.
12:31That crowd that night absolutely loved it.
12:34It was a great moment in pro wrestling.
12:39When WWE purchased WCW in 2001,
12:43the potential for crossover between the two companies' top stars
12:46was nothing short of thrilling.
12:48But the absence of one superstar was obvious.
12:51Powerhouse known as Goldberg.
12:53On the Raw after WrestleMania 19,
12:55The Rock would relish in his victory over rival Stone Cold Steve Austin
12:58in the middle of the ring.
13:00Stone Cold, if you're gonna get beat,
13:02who better than to get beat by it than the absolute greatest
13:05the wrestling industry has ever seen!
13:08But while the Great One bathed in his triumph,
13:11a new challenger waited in the wings for his time to strike.
13:17I went to Hollywood, I came back,
13:19and then I came back and I get booed!
13:23At that time, I was making the transition from WWE
13:27to making movies full-time.
13:29The Rock has now beaten Austin, beaten Hogan, Triple H,
13:33The Undertaker, Kurt Angle, everyone.
13:36Now, there's nothing left for The Rock.
13:39It was the truth.
13:40There really was no one else for Rock to beat.
13:42What is there left to do?
13:45Goldberg! Goldberg!
13:47Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!
13:48Hey, hey!
13:49Don't think you're cool just because you know The Rock's accountant,
13:52Ira Goldberg, okay?
13:54Well, that is his accountant, Ira Goldberg.
13:56So that was fortuitous that it worked out that way.
13:59Oh, yeah!
14:00The most electrifying man entertaining all of you!
14:02It's over!
14:03You don't appreciate The Rock,
14:04you can all kiss the people's ass!
14:12What?
14:14Goldberg is him!
14:16It is him!
14:18And Goldberg has stuck him to the ring!
14:22Oh, no!
14:23Coming from WCW to WWE and making that splash,
14:30it had to be with the right person.
14:33You're next!
14:35What?
14:36Oh, God!
14:37Oh, is that still?
14:38Goldberg, take it down!
14:40Rock, he was instrumental in my success immediately at the WWE.
14:44I can't believe what I've seen!
14:47Goldberg on Raw!
14:52In 2001, the game Triple H was on top of the world.
14:55Look out!
14:56Let's hit him!
14:57Reigning as intercontinental champion and one half of the tag team champions.
15:01And there's Triple H from behind!
15:03However, devastating quadriceps injury put Triple H on the shelf for nearly eight months.
15:09Triple H sustained a very serious injury.
15:12They tore a quadricep muscle.
15:16Dude!
15:17And on Raw's first episode of 2002, the anticipation was higher than ever for the return of the game.
15:29The time has come! The return of Triple H!
15:34I remember standing in the curtain and my music hit.
15:38And just getting a rush like, holy ****.
15:42He's back! Triple H is back!
15:52It has been eight long months of rehabilitation thinking about this very night!
15:59My return from my quad injury was really special.
16:02To go from is a reality that I might never wrestle again.
16:07I am the game!
16:12And you can bet your ass I'm back!
16:16To be injured for nine months and come back.
16:18It was a great, great WWE moment.
16:21Everything about it. Fairytale.
16:26Up next is our final two moments on the countdown.
16:28What will take the number one spot?
16:32No!
16:33No, no, no, no!
16:34When you've got two alphas who want to be at the top, there's only room for one.
16:40I'm the dirtiest player in the game!
16:44This rivalry sent ripples through the WWE world.
16:46I got chills.
16:48Becky was always the sidekick until one day.
16:52Want to fight? I'll fight.
16:53You hate someone more that you loved.
16:55It's a fine line.
16:57No one fights like a flair.
16:59WWE Rivals. New episodes next Sunday at 8.
17:01Only on A&E.
17:03Watch next day on the A&E app.
17:05I've had the honor of sitting ringside for nearly 30 years watching some of the greatest athletes in WWE history
17:11perform at the highest caliber.
17:13But one superstar stood out as a true daredevil.
17:17I'm talking about none other than Jeff Hardy.
17:20I don't fear anybody.
17:21But I'm gonna do whatever it takes to get to that next level.
17:23No matter what, man.
17:24Hardy's fearless ways were never more prominent than his feet on the January 14, 2008 episode of Raw.
17:34Referee has called for the bell.
17:36And here we go!
17:38Wrestling Randy Orton, he's a villain, so he takes advantage of that opportunity.
17:43Orton thinking RKO!
17:45Jeff Hardy thinking retribution!
17:48That feud between Randy Orton and Jeff Hardy, I thought it was an amazing feud.
17:52I felt that it really elevated both performers.
17:55Randy Orton measuring Jeff Hardy!
17:58One, two!
17:59Good Lord!
18:00Jeff Hardy was that daredevil.
18:02He wasn't afraid of anything.
18:05Oh, my God.
18:06What is he doing?
18:07No!
18:09Jeff, look, he's through.
18:11Jeff's going higher.
18:13I remember laying there.
18:16It's the kind of fall where if you land wrong, like, that could be it.
18:20Jeff's been doing that his whole career.
18:21Oh!
18:25Oh!
18:29It was such an adrenaline rush to actually pull that off.
18:33Unbelievable!
18:35He really thinks like an artist.
18:37To him, I just want him from the top of the set is much like a work of art.
18:43I can't believe what I've seen!
18:48We've now reached our number one moment, and it's a clash of titans that was years in the making.
18:52Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Hulk Hogan was WWE's hottest superstar and the most popular professional wrestler on the planet.
19:00The greatest professional athlete in the world today!
19:03Well, when the Hulkster departed for WCW in 1994, the throne of WWE was left vacant.
19:10Enter The Rock, the most electrifying man in sports entertainment.
19:14The Rock says, know your role and shut your mouth!
19:19But when Hogan made his return to WWE in 2002, the Brahma Bull called out the Immortal One in what
19:26became a showdown for the ages.
19:32Who would have thought they would have ever seen Hulk Hogan and The Rock in the same ring?
19:39That was one of the most incredible nights I've ever had in my career.
19:44Icon versus Icon.
19:46They've got a name for guys like you.
19:49It's called Flavor of the Month.
19:51Is that what you think?
19:54That's exactly what-
19:55It doesn't matter what you think!
19:57With him, it was just so easy to sit back and play and tell the story.
20:03How do you feel about headlining one more WrestleMania with The Rock?
20:08Oh my God!
20:09That iconic moment of Hogan looking at Rock for what seems like forever because it was forever.
20:15It's as if time has stood still!
20:19Yes!
20:20Oh my God!
20:20There it is!
20:21There it is!
20:22That's the answer we were looking for!
20:28Good luck.
20:31Cause you're gonna need it.
20:33I wanted to shake his hand.
20:35He wouldn't let go of my hand, you know, and he pulled me in.
20:38Not as much as you, brother!
20:42Oh, wait a minute!
20:43Oh, brother!
20:45Everything about that night was so exciting.
20:50A truly unforgettable confrontation between two icons of the industry.
20:55Well, that'll do it for this episode of WWE's Greatest Moments.
20:58We hope you enjoy this look back at the most iconic and memorable moments of Monday Night Raw in the
21:042000s.
