00:00To all about surviving!
00:04The Survivor Series.
00:06It's the annual extravaganza
00:08where you must simply strive to survive.
00:11We all have one goal, and that's the win.
00:14And in the unpredictable decade of the 2000s,
00:16anything can and did happen.
00:19The game's in that car!
00:21Today we look back at the very best
00:23of the WWE's fall classic,
00:25The Survivor Series.
00:26Oh, sweet chin music!
00:27What in the world?!
00:28Shawn Michaels!
00:29This is WWE's Greatest Moments.
00:38Acknowledge me!
00:39Oh, God!
00:40No call to the bear man!
00:42This is surreal!
00:45Look at this!
00:46He's landed!
00:53Welcome, everyone, to WWE's Greatest Moments.
00:56I'm Michael Cole, and on this edition,
00:58the name of the game is survival.
01:01One team must eliminate all the opposition
01:04to win this elimination match!
01:08Since its inception in 1987,
01:10the Survivor Series has been one of the premier events
01:13on the WWE calendar.
01:15A featured attraction at this event
01:17has always been the traditional elimination match,
01:19where two teams collide until one side has been defeated.
01:23At Survivor Series, we are gonna kick your ass!
01:29In 2006, one of the most dominant teams of all time was led by Triple H and Shawn Michaels,
01:35the always controversial D-Generation X.
01:38Your discretion is advised.
01:40DX made Hall of Fame careers out of their hijinks.
01:43Their latest targets?
01:44The team of Randy Orton and Edge rated RKO.
01:48This takes some audacity from Randy Orton and Edge.
01:52The feuding teams each captained their side of five to go at it
01:55in one of the most memorable traditional elimination matches of all time.
02:00This is a five-on-five elimination tag team match.
02:07Just stats, star-studded, CM Punk, the Hardys, Triple H, Shawn, legends.
02:16This is chemistry on top of characters that are the absolute perfect fit.
02:23Oh, God Almighty!
02:25Right next!
02:26Wait a minute!
02:27Oh, no, wait!
02:28Thanks for coming!
02:29Team DX now with a five-on-four advantage.
02:33That all-star team was pretty mind-blowing.
02:35To be in a match with them was just an honor.
02:38And...
02:40Squad Top Bomb!
02:42Oh, this is gonna be sweet for Matt Hardy!
02:44Five versus two.
02:46For these two, yeah, who's going?
02:48Team Extreme forced the team-rated RKO to reconsider!
02:52It's like chin music!
02:55Look out!
02:56Peter Green!
03:01You talk about dominating!
03:03And one of the very rare occurrences in Survivor Series history,
03:07everybody on Team DX survived.
03:09My God, it was a shutout!
03:13In 2002, Trish Stratus was not only ruling the women's division,
03:17she was quickly becoming one of the most popular superstars in WWE history.
03:21Enter Victoria.
03:23With jealousy consuming her,
03:25Victoria got under the skin of the women's champion,
03:27and things got very physical very quickly.
03:30Oh, my God! Get her!
03:32This came to a head inside the famed halls of Madison Square Garden,
03:36where, in a rare occurrence for the women,
03:38things would be settled in a hardcore match.
03:41Survivor Series is coming to you live from the sold-out Madison Square Garden
03:47in New York City!
03:49It was the first time I had ever seen women fight like that.
03:53Victoria off that top turnbuckle, right down to the canvas.
03:56We had amazing chemistry. Amazing. We worked so well together.
04:02Oh, no! Man, Trish hit first!
04:04I think we started to know we were making a difference and leaving an impact.
04:07It was like the way the fans were reacting.
04:09They were vested into what we were doing in there.
04:12Oh, no! Nice! Very nice!
04:15Broke my nose, chipped my tooth.
04:19I was like, oh, my gosh.
04:21They're seeing the women as more than just eye candy.
04:26Right in the eyes, that's the main thing.
04:29Step suplex by Victoria.
04:31One, two, three!
04:32Did she get it? She got it! You gotta be kidding me!
04:36Winning the title there in New York in Madison Square Garden.
04:40Oh, man, I'm gonna cry.
04:42Very emotional.
04:43A huge moment like that,
04:45we were not just pillow fights and bathing suits
04:48and lingerie matches and stuff like that.
04:50We can throw down, too.
04:52Victoria is the new women's champion.
04:57There was no bigger sensation in 2002
04:59than the beast incarnate Brock Lesnar.
05:01The indestructible Brock Lesnar!
05:06Lesnar F5-ed his way through the entire roster
05:09en route to capturing the WWE championship
05:12from the great one, The Rock.
05:14Brock Lesnar has become the youngest champion in history!
05:20But standing in front of the beast was his biggest challenge yet.
05:23The 500-pound Big Show.
05:26When I first came to WWE, I needed somebody to pull me by the reins,
05:33and that guy was Paul Heyman.
05:36You have to have faith in your manager.
05:38That's why we're such a good team.
05:39Big Show and the referee knocked down.
05:41And Paul Heyman tossing a steel chair to his client.
05:45The task at hand at Survivor Series was to leave them wanting more.
05:51F5!
05:52Every time I get in the ring, it was like wrestling a ball-peen hammer.
05:55You know, he's so strong and just so athletic.
05:58A win!
05:59F5!
06:00Lesnar has F5 500 pounds!
06:04And here comes the new referee!
06:05The referee!
06:06The referee!
06:07The referee!
06:08The referee!
06:09The referee!
06:10The referee!
06:11The referee!
06:12Wait a minute!
06:13What the hell's going on?
06:14Who would have thought that Paul Heyman
06:15would switch sides in the middle of a match?
06:17Big Show!
06:18Boom slam!
06:19Boom slam to the steel chair!
06:21And the evidence has been tossed out of the ready!
06:24As Heyman throws the ref!
06:25Not like this!
06:26Not like this!
06:27Kick out Brock Heyman!
06:29Paul Heyman is straight on Brock Lesnar!
06:33He's got courage and passion more than common sense.
06:38Without a doubt, yes, I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
06:40The Big Show is the champion!
06:46Survivor Series has always been the event where you not only settle your scores,
06:49but as the name suggests, become a survivor.
06:52In 2003, that's exactly what the goal of Shane McMahon was when he was engrossed in a rivalry
06:57with the big red monster Kane.
06:59Kane, I'm gonna make your life a living hell!
07:03No, no, no!
07:04Kane!
07:05Kane, there is nothing that can stop me!
07:11Have a nice ride!
07:13This feud became so violent that at Survivor Series,
07:17the two would battle it out in one of the most unorthodox matches ever,
07:22where the loser would be the one that was locked inside of an ambulance.
07:30The following contest is the ambulance match!
07:34Yeah, when you see an ambulance match, you know you're gonna get hurt.
07:38Look at this!
07:39Oh, my God!
07:40You got this big monster, and you got this crazy daredevil.
07:44That's a good matchup.
07:45That's so much on my mind, I know I'm going into battle.
07:48He'll try anything!
07:49He'll die!
07:51To the black heart!
07:53This Kane, he is a psychological monster.
07:56Sadistic and twisted and mean.
07:58Oh, my God!
08:00Oh, my God!
08:01Oh, my God!
08:02God, that's just sick!
08:04When you have a match with that much physicality, that much violence,
08:07it really necessitates that someone is indeed going to the hospital right after this.
08:12He may destroy himself in the process of trying to just break Kane off!
08:17Oh, McMahon going border to border!
08:19I mean, he's a big, big man.
08:21He's a double tough.
08:22Adding fuel to the fire for Kane.
08:24Oh, my God!
08:25The tombstone!
08:26Shane Smith in his head, and it's over!
08:34In 2003, Monday Night Raw had its own share of sitcom drama
08:38with co-general managers Eric Bischoff and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
08:41We're going to be partners.
08:43Partners!
08:44It was obvious the two were never going to see eye to eye.
08:50With the annual Survivor Series approaching,
08:52a unique stipulation was added to the traditional elimination match.
08:56Both GMs picked their teams of five.
08:58If your team loses, you're out of here.
09:02You're done.
09:07Business is about to pick up!
09:09Kind of not wrestling at the time.
09:11It always rang a little hollow with me doing anything in the ring other than wrestling.
09:16But just the fact that people bought into the angle and we were entertaining them,
09:20that was really cool.
09:21It is a must swim for Stone Cold!
09:24And Booker T just got thrilled!
09:27And there's a 3-D!
09:29Man Dan with a 5-star!
09:32Mark Henry eliminated!
09:34I get ganged up on.
09:35Where is that fair?
09:36Advantage back to Team Bischoff and it doesn't look good for the rattlesnake right now.
09:41So it comes down to Shawn Michaels versus three members of Team Bischoff.
09:44The odds are stacked way against Shawn Michaels.
09:47You've got to face the facts.
09:48You've got to be realistic.
09:49This is looking real fast.
09:51Be realistic about that kick!
09:53No!
09:54Yes!
09:55One down and two to go!
09:57Oh!
09:58The counter!
09:59The counter!
10:00The counter!
10:01The counter!
10:02The counter!
10:03Shawn Michaels running through.
10:04Superstar after superstar at the end.
10:05Looking like he's going to do it for Austin.
10:07Oh!
10:08Oh!
10:09Crossbody Michaels!
10:10Everybody in this arena is on their feet!
10:12They are!
10:13Hey!
10:14Hey!
10:15Wait a minute!
10:16Hey!
10:17Wait a minute!
10:18Batista!
10:19Batista!
10:20Of evolution!
10:21Stone Cold Steve Austin's career is over!
10:26Couldn't believe that I got fired, but it was what it was.
10:29We have just seen the end of the most popular superstar in WWE history.
10:39The WWE Women's Championship is the top prize in the women's division.
10:43Many of the all-time great female competitors have held on to that title and brought women's wrestling to new heights.
10:49At Survivor Series 2001, the women's championship was vacant.
10:53The six-pack challenge featuring the top women's wrestlers of the era was set.
10:57Which of these women would survive and call herself champion?
11:04The first person to score pinfall or submission wins this match.
11:08In 2001, they put together a match called Six-Pack Challenge.
11:12It was Jazz, Jacqueline, Ivory, Molly Holly, Lita, and myself.
11:19It's every girl for herself!
11:21I was the underdog coming in. I wasn't the most experienced.
11:25All five were way better in the ring.
11:27But I was ready for the challenge.
11:29Oh, man!
11:31We got to fight for this title and make it mean something.
11:36I had this desire to just want to prove myself in the ring and say that, yeah, I belong here.
11:42And Trish.
11:44Oh! With a stratuspection!
11:47Oh, don't kill me!
11:49And Trish has done it! Trish Stratus has won this match!
11:52Holding the title for the first time was really special.
11:57Trish Stratus is the new women's champion.
12:00Trish winning that championship just helped start this whole new era of women's wrestling.
12:082001 had the highest stakes possible when rival companies ECW and WCW both closed their doors.
12:16The stars of both defunct companies aligned in an attempt to take over WWE.
12:20Nothing can stop the WCW and ECW!
12:25A winner-take-all match was set between the two sides,
12:29where the losing team would be forced to close its doors forever.
12:37Winner-take-all.
12:39One company will be out of business at the conclusion of this next main event.
12:45That match at Survivor Series 2001 was huge.
12:47You know, it had some of the top superstars in the industry.
12:51Fighting for the professional lives!
12:54This could boil down to five-on-one!
12:56Oh, my God!
12:58Oh, my! He just lost another one!
13:00The Alliance has a clear advantage!
13:02The stakes couldn't be higher. They really couldn't be bigger.
13:05And I grew up a huge WCW guy, so it was hard not to root for the Alliance.
13:08But it was a fight for survival.
13:11It has come down to Rock in Austin!
13:14And Stone Cold will lead the Alliance to victory!
13:19Any time you step in a ring with The Rock, he's gonna give you everything he's got.
13:22Not this guy!
13:24Oh, yes! The Rock kicked out!
13:28The Rock bottom! The count! The count!
13:33It's over! It's over!
13:37The 34th has won it!
13:38What made that match so special is that, business-wise, I knew that we did something that was very, very cool.
13:45The Alliance dies!
13:49Perhaps no superstar saw more success in 2005 than the Viper Randy Orton.
13:55He had done the unthinkable and taken out The Undertaker seemingly for good.
14:00The Undertaker is in the casket!
14:02And at the Survivor Series, Orton celebrated a career milestone.
14:06Becoming the first superstar to be the sole Survivor on his team for an unprecedented third year in a row.
14:14The Legend Killer was certainly riding high.
14:18Until the dead man rose again.
14:23The SmackDown camaraderie!
14:26We're here to congratulate Randy Orton as SmackDown dominates Raw again!
14:30I was the sole Survivor.
14:33I was being hoisted up on everybody's shoulders and, you know, all right, we did it.
14:39And then I heard it.
14:47Randy Orton looks as NBC to Ghost!
14:50When they place that casket out there, that place, and you can feel it shaking.
14:55Holy God!
14:56There's a layer of ominous foreplay to what you're about to see.
15:05Oh, my God! The dead has risen!
15:09I'm standing there. People are going nuts. Boom. Then I start that march.
15:13The Undertaker is back for vengeance!
15:16The Undertaker is clear of the ring of every SmackDown Superstars out here!
15:22Oh, man! We're going to score the dog out of here!
15:26Yeah, it was just magical, man.
15:29Randy Orton is next on the hit list!
15:32On the hit list!
15:36In 2001, WWE famously purchased rival promotion WCW.
15:42With it came the WCW Tag Team Championship.
15:45It didn't take long for the Dudley Boys to capture those titles and rekindle an old rivalry.
15:50I'm talking about the WWE Tag Team Champions, the Hardy Boys.
15:56And now at Survivor Series, they were about to do it one more time.
16:00But with huge implications.
16:02It will be the Dudleys taking on the Hardys in a title unification match.
16:07And what better way for these risk-takers to get extreme than inside the confines of a 15-foot-high steel cage?
16:20This match can be won by pinfall or by both members of one team escaping over the top of the cage all the way to the floor.
16:31You would think it's difficult to put a tag team match together in a steel cage.
16:37But for us and the Hardys, it wasn't.
16:40In a bad place! With a hellacious landing!
16:44I really feel like this was the last big meeting.
16:47It was a bit of a grand finale to the Hardys and Dudleys rivalry, no doubt about it.
16:51The human anatomy is going to hurt, and it's going to hurt for a long time.
16:55We all had such good chemistry. We wanted to raise the bar like we always did back then.
16:58Matt Hardy is out of cage! We need one more!
17:03How's this going to end, man? Is Jeff Hardy going to do something crazy off the top?
17:07I felt like that's what everybody kind of wanted to see.
17:10Jeff climbing to the top. Jeff to get out of here and both feet touch. The Hardys have done it!
17:15Matt is encouraging his brother to come on down!
17:18Oh no! Look at this! Jeff Hardy can't resist!
17:21I've always kind of gravitated towards that, not knowing what's going to happen, but taking the risk to see if it may happen.
17:29Jeff, don't do this! No! Damn it! Oh my God!
17:33I took the risk versus the reward, and it didn't pay off.
17:36And Matt's on the outside!
17:38One!
17:39Two!
17:40Three!
17:41That is too late!
17:43The Dudley's have made history!
17:45Winning this match meant a lot to myself and my brother Devon.
17:49only team to hold the ECW, WWE, and WCW World Tag Team Championship.
17:56This establishes the Dudley boys and the greatest tag team in history!
18:04It is now time for our number one moment.
18:07In 2002, champion Triple H had a huge target on his back.
18:11With five of WWE's biggest superstars all gunning for the title,
18:14Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff made an announcement that would change the landscape of professional wrestling.
18:20At Survivor Series, you will bear witness to the Elimination Chamber.
18:29For the first time ever, we would see one of the most satanic structures ever created, the Elimination Chamber.
18:36Two men will start, one of the internal chambers will be opened every three minutes.
18:46The last man remaining is the world's heavyweight champion.
18:50Yeah, you'd hear, oh no, we're building it, the whole thing, and the next time I saw it was Madison Square Garden,
18:55where I walked out and was like, holy .
18:58These men, their fate being sealed, locked inside this unique structure.
19:03We wore like the crash test dummies actually going out there.
19:09This is a steel grid that we're getting body slammed on.
19:14Oh!
19:16Highs up again, they are!
19:18Now who?
19:20It's Kane!
19:22With the Elimination Chamber, it was completely different than really, I think, anything the company had done before that.
19:28And a lot more complex as far as the actual match.
19:30Michael Calipholman, his body has been broken perhaps in half here.
19:37This is brutal.
19:39I mean, the thing is fricking solid steel.
19:42Sweet Tim Music!
19:43Woo!
19:46Michaels illuminates Jericho, and we're down to two!
19:49It feels a bit contrived, but at the same time, you know, it's a nice story that everybody likes.
19:55Sometimes that's okay to do.
19:58Sweet Tim Music!
19:59The cover!
20:00The cover!
20:01The cover!
20:02He's got it there!
20:03What?
20:04Tom Michaels is a world champion!
20:07Michaels believed in his ability to win this match, and he has survived it!
20:13To have something fresh, something new, something different.
20:15The Elimination Chamber was awesome.
20:20The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels makes history in one of the most brutal matches we had ever seen.
20:25Over the last four decades, the Survivor Series has proven to be a can't-miss attraction.
20:29And in the wild decade of the 2000s, the action was non-stop.
20:33Well, that'll do it for this edition of WWE's Greatest Moments.
20:36I hope you've enjoyed this look back at some of the greatest matches to ever take place at WWE's Fall Classic.
20:43The Survivor Series.
