Shan, RJ, Bobby and Peyton shared their initial reactions to the Cowboys 2026 schedule, which features a brutal early travel stretch and a late Week 14 bye. They discussed the steep physical cost of the Brazil trip, questioned the scarcity of home games in the first two months, and more.
Transcript
00:00Arizona Cardinals in Arlington, then you go to Indianapolis, then you get three straight home games,
00:07Sam Fran, the Titans, filthy on Thanksgiving, then you're at Seattle, and then this week 14 bye.
00:16Is that the first thing that jumped out to everyone, how late this bye is?
00:19Yeah, very late.
00:21Yeah, how late the bye is.
00:23There's two things that really jumped out, the late, the bye, and that it is criminal.
00:30That they don't play Philadelphia for the last six weeks.
00:32It's the latest bye week since 1990.
00:35That's week 14.
00:37Then week 15, you're at the Rams.
00:39Then you host Jacksonville for Sunday Night Football.
00:42Then you finish against the Giants, and you're at D.C. to end it.
00:50The schedule loss, that's the first thing I always look for.
00:53Where's the scheduled loss?
00:54That's where the league bakes in a loss for every team.
00:58They do it for every team.
01:00They didn't do it here.
01:02It would have been the Rams-Seattle back-to-back roadies, but you get a bye week in between.
01:08So you don't have that.
01:09Either way, they would have had the Thursday mini-bye, right, because it was the second Thursday.
01:14It's as favorable as it could have been.
01:17Based on the schedule and the teams they had to play, it is as perfect as they could have asked
01:23for,
01:23except for, obviously, not playing Philadelphia.
01:25I think it's criminal.
01:27Imagine not playing the Astros in all of September or, like, Red Sox-Yankees not being, you know,
01:33last game being August 20th.
01:35Just that should not happen.
01:36It is, what, the NFL season starts September 10th or whatever with Thursday Night Football.
01:43So from September 10th all the way through the end of October, the Cowboys play two times at AT&T
01:49Stadium.
01:50They're going to play two times there through the first half of the season because one of their home games
01:54that counts, quote-unquote, is Baltimore.
01:55And so they've got a heavier road set up there.
01:58So all you get is you get the Commanders on week two and the Texans, or not the Texans, the
02:04Buccaneers on week five.
02:06Otherwise, that's it for playing at home in the first two months of the season.
02:10Six primetime games and the first international game since 2014.
02:14I'm kind of looking at this in three different parts.
02:17Weeks three through seven, I'll start there.
02:19Here, gauntlet, Baltimore, Houston, Tampa, Green Bay, Philadelphia.
02:27I mean, that's brutal.
02:30That's tough.
02:31Yeah, Tampa's your kind of let up.
02:35Yeah.
02:35Right, you know, and that potentially could be a trap game.
02:37Them weeks eight through 11, take advantage of that.
02:41Arizona, Indy, San Fran, eh, and then Tennessee.
02:46Take advantage of that.
02:48And then I broke it up into 12 through 16.
02:51Tough again.
02:52Philly, Seattle, bye.
02:56Rams, Jacksonville.
02:57And then you end with two games you hope you can win with the Giants and Washington.
03:02So it kind of went in a row for me in terms of three different segments.
03:05Their bye week isn't even two weeks.
03:08They're going to get shorted on the bye week.
03:10That's going to end up being 13 days instead.
03:12Now, they are coming off of what will be a longer stretch off between Philly and Seattle.
03:17They'll basically get two byes in a row because they'll have the extended break leading into Seattle.
03:21And then out of Seattle, they've got the bye.
03:23So if they are competitive at all, that's a good three-week stretch where we're going to feel like, okay,
03:30they're ready to go.
03:31But, I mean, that's November 27th, the day after the Thanksgiving game, all the way until December 19th, day before
03:36the Rams.
03:36We go almost a month with them playing one football game.
03:40From weeks 8 to 14, they have just two games on the road.
03:45Nick Harris tweeted, early season stretch and nightmare.
03:48Traveling 11 hours back from Brazil, going on the road for a noon game in Houston,
03:55then turning around for a Thursday night game all in 11 days.
04:00That kind of sucks.
04:02I hate that they started doing this where, you know, you've got the Cowboys have to play two Thursday games
04:08because they already play the Thanksgiving and they've got to get another one thrown in there somewhere.
04:13But, look, again, they could have – this could have – I thought for some reason I thought this could
04:17have been worse.
04:18That back end of the season stretch, though, the whole thing comes down to that Eagles-Seattle-Ram-Jaguar
04:24four-game stretch for me.
04:27You know, the way the thing shakes out, I could see this team very easily being 2-0, 2-2,
04:333-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6.
04:36They kind of trade in wins and losses until they get to about 6-6, and then it's those four
04:41games.
04:42Yeah, they got screwed on that week three turnaround.
04:44That Rio de Janeiro thing, that's going to be tough because that's –
04:48Because the time difference is not that great.
04:51It's a long flight.
04:53It's a 12-hour flight.
04:54So you're talking about they are going to land back there Monday morning at, like, 5, 6 in the morning,
04:59something like that.
05:00And then you're going to Houston, you're traveling, and it's for that noon kickoff time, like Nick was saying.
05:06So, I mean, that's a really short stretch, a really brutal week.
05:10Another thing everyone looks at is the cold weather games.
05:12Rams, so I don't know, where do you want to start?
05:15You want to start at, like, November 1st, you're in Arlington, you don't worry about it.
05:19Then you're at Indianapolis, you don't worry about that.
05:22You host San Fran and Tennessee, so that is a great start to November with the cold weather.
05:27What is going to happen after that?
05:30You host Philadelphia, then you're at Seattle, you're not worried about that.
05:33Then you get the bye, then you're at the Rams, you host Jacksonville.
05:36Well, there's no cold weather issues here at all except for Washington at the very end.
05:42That's it.
05:42That's a bad football team, so you're good.
05:45We don't, I mean, we don't know.
05:48You might be a bad football team, too, though.
05:50You might be a bad football team.
05:51You got Green Bay early.
05:52You know, Green Bay in October is as perfect of weather as you're going to ask for.
05:55But that cold weather, Dak Prescott concern, that's out the window.
05:58It's gone.
05:59It sets up really well.
06:02Yeah, and so it makes me wonder, you know, what are the MVP odds for Dak Prescott now?
06:06You know, because, I mean, he's not having to travel cold weather.
06:08I mean, he's playing all indoors or southern games.
06:11I mean, they know he's going to have home field there when he's playing in L.A., the Rams.
06:15The Cowboys fans always show up to that.
06:17But, yeah, so six prime time games.
06:19I think the Rams had seven.
06:21I think they led the way with seven games.
06:22I think we had five teams with zero, a bunch of loser teams out there.
06:26They are the – it's like the Raiders, Jets, Cards, Titans.
06:32By the way, I don't remember – I don't remember a season.
06:37I'm sure it's happened.
06:38But we play Arizona in the preseason, and then I don't remember that.
06:43We play a team in the preseason and then in a regular season.
06:45They've done it a couple times.
06:46They did it with – I'm trying to think.
06:49They've done it recently with Seattle in the past.
06:52They've had a couple other matchups that are like that.
06:53It's not common necessarily, but they'll definitely do it.
06:56Rockwell Fire Station No. 2, 920 Rockwell Parkway.
07:00Tolo T-shirts, brand new ones for everyone showing up.
07:03We have a packed house all ready.
07:05Thank you to Colby Tolbert and Rodeo City Provisions for the breakfast and all the Tolos rolling out.
07:11What did – and Peyton Russell, of course, in his hometown on the scene here on set.
07:17What did we think of the way they presented it?
07:21The presentation with the whole video bits.
07:24The pain's going thumbs down.
07:26The TIA.
07:27Yeah, it's just – I don't know if they're just trying to, you know, not offend anyone or anything.
07:33No, they offended a lot of people.
07:34Well, it just seems like they need to take notes.
07:37Like, Tennessee does a great job.
07:38I think the Rams –
07:39Yeah, let's be like the Titans.
07:40Yeah, let's be like the Titans.
07:41You know, you lose, but then your social media team is bomb.
07:44So – but I didn't – I like the Tyler thing they did, but the – you know, where they
07:48had Ferguson and I think Brevin Spam Ford as well.
07:52I just –
07:52So this was the Tyler Intelligence Agency, the TIA, with the three Tylers.
07:58It was – and that was good.
08:00I did – it did end up being better than I was anticipating based on the teaser.
08:03It was – I still didn't have any clue where they were going with it early.
08:06I was like, this is a little weird.
08:07Because they picked out a Tyler that worked for each opponent, and that was their inside source.
08:12Yeah.
08:13That was their mission – it was like a Mission Impossible theme?
08:16Yeah.
08:17Or just in general.
08:18Like, I don't even know that it was, like, based off any movie other than just, like, here we are.
08:21Like, this is our intelligence agency.
08:22But it's the – I mean, they were, like, how to sabotage each game.
08:28And they go to, like, the Bears or where they go to – which one was it?
08:31Where they said, like, go to the – get him on Hinge so that he gets into a bad relationship.
08:35Or I don't remember which team that was.
08:37But they were – I mean, they were taking – they were taking serious shots for the first time.
08:40The Jalen Hurts butt juice?
08:42That's great.
08:43Explain that.
08:44They said he doesn't like butt juice.
08:45That's what he – it's –
08:47They went after Jaden Daniels' mom.
08:49They called Houston a ghetto Dallas.
08:53They made fun of Tampa Bay for tagging the wrong Emeka Egbuka throughout the entire season.
08:59Do they know Mike Evans is gone?
09:00Has anybody told him that yet?
09:01They called Philadelphia – that was good.
09:03They called Philadelphia – they said the children are violent in Philadelphia.
09:06Children are violent.
09:06They made fun of the Positivity Bunny.
09:09They didn't know where Indy was?
09:11Didn't know where Indy was.
09:13They made fun of the substation.
09:15And it's improv.
09:16They improv, apparently.
09:17Oh, really?
09:17They got asked last night when they were at the Home Run Derby with Jake Ferguson once.
09:20So while you're talking to us about Jake Ferguson, Peyton.
09:24Tyler Smith, I guess, had told the reporters that they were just basically given an outline,
09:27and then they were told to just start goofing around.
09:30And so that was just them, like, taking shots.
09:32And then I love that they brought up – they went after Kelly Stafford because she reached out to Ty
09:38Simpson.
09:38They're like, you haven't heard from the number one quarterback, but you heard from his wife.
09:43And I was like, damn.
09:44They put that in there.
09:46Yeah, she reaches out to the backup quarterback consistently.
09:48So that's kind of her thing.
09:50No, I thought –
09:51It felt a little long.
09:52It was long, but it was one of the better ones they've had, I think.
09:57In fact, I will never get over the year they did the ASMR one.
10:02That was so rough with the Amari Cooper eating an apple and going, like, the New York Giants and whispering.
10:09That one was brutal.
10:11We started last night trying to work on, Sean, a Peyton schedule release.
10:16And, like, this is Peyton schedule release, and it was going to be a stand-up comedy bit.
10:19And he read the first four jokes, and he said, I'm not doing this.
10:22I'm going to get fired if we read these.
10:25So he called in to fan after dark to get fired.
10:27Well, yeah, because after that, he had already been drinking.
10:29When I asked him about the stand-up comedy thing, he was sober.
10:32But he didn't like some of the touchy words we were using on Cam Scadaboo.
10:37All right, predictions for 720, 17 games.
10:41What are they going?
10:42You see how it is laid out.
10:44Obviously, we knew the opponents, and now you know the order of them.
10:47877-881-1053, 877-881-1053, Frank LaFranco Fan Text.
10:53But it's a tough schedule at the end of the day.
10:56It is.
10:56It is.
10:57You've got some decent, you know, you have a three-game homestand in there.
11:01That's always good to see.
11:02You have, I don't know if I don't, you don't have a three-game road trip, but you do have,
11:07like, four and six.
11:09You know, so that's kind of tough.
11:10But, you know, one of those is Houston.
11:12That's not really a road game.
11:14It's not too far.
11:15So it could have been way worse.
11:17They could have put Green Bay and Philadelphia at the end of the season in cold weather.
11:22They didn't.
11:22That's a lot of noon games, too.
11:24That's more than they've had on the schedule, just right out of the gate, than has been typical for them.
11:29Choppy will love that.
11:31Five of them, right?
11:32Maybe six with Washington at the end of the year.
