00:00Mike Jones from The Athletic wrote this week
00:18about the injuries to Patrick Mahomes and Micah Parsons
00:21and said that as Patrick Mahomes and Micah Parsons
00:24hobbled at their respective locker room Sunday evening,
00:27moments after each tumbled to the turf
00:28and writhed in pain while trainers and team doctors rushed to their aid,
00:32a sickening feeling settled over all who watched.
00:34Two of pro football's brightest stars,
00:35we soon learned, each tore on an ACL
00:37in an otherwise spectacular day of late season football.
00:41And he starts quoting statistics
00:43and pointing to just various injury notes
00:45that occur later in the season.
00:47And he says that this is the proof of the whole war of attrition thing
00:50and the longer you go on and the more you jeopardize injuries,
00:52the more you're going to start taking out stars.
00:54And so he says that this is the biggest argument we have right now
00:59for this is why you should not go to the 18-game schedule.
01:01You're going to potentially end up looking at,
01:03you're increasing the odds that you're looking at post-seasons
01:05without big stars or those teams are in there
01:08and that, you know, the Jordan-Travis situation at Florida State
01:10where Florida State's really good,
01:12then at the end of the year he gets hurt
01:13and now you're looking at putting a Florida State team
01:15in a bowl game that doesn't have their quarterback.
01:16Yeah.
01:17And it's like, this isn't very good at all.
01:19And this has become...
01:21It would mean a lot more to me if they got hurt in Week 17.
01:25Like, hey, this was after the 16th game.
01:28Right.
01:28You know, like, it was before Week 16 even.
01:31Right.
01:31And here's the thing,
01:32and this is why I don't think this ends up being a compelling case.
01:36Now, there's been...
01:37There have been a lot of injury issues in 2025.
01:40Sports Info Solutions had done a write-up a couple weeks ago
01:43of the teams that have been most and least affected by injuries in the NFL.
01:48And Dallas actually has...
01:51They basically created this formula where it's similar to EPA,
01:55expected points added.
01:56And you're trying to determine how many points have been lost
02:00by the players you're missing that season.
02:02So they don't want to grade everybody equally.
02:04You losing five backups is not the same as losing one Patrick Mahomes.
02:08So that's supposed to be like,
02:09all right, how much does that total up to cumulatively?
02:11And so when they took a look at creating the score,
02:14the total points missed,
02:15you start going down the list.
02:17And you look, and you look, and you look,
02:18and as many injuries as the Dallas Cowboys have had,
02:21they're in the back end of points missed.
