00:00Hey guys, it's Bea.
00:01What do colored pencils and a can of butternut squash have in common?
00:04What do you get when you combine a dollar store trash can and some rope?
00:07Does this teacup look boring to you?
00:08This is Dollar Store Hacks, and today we'll be making a pencil holder, a side table, and
00:13a teacup fit for a queen.
00:15It's time to DIY.
00:16Here goes nothing.
00:17Grab a can and take off the label.
00:19It doesn't really matter what kind of can you use, this one is butternut squash.
00:26I'm using a sharp edge to take off excess glue, so I have a relatively clean and flat
00:30surface to work with.
00:32Once the can is emptied, use a screwdriver to smooth any sharp edges.
00:40Okay, time for colored pencils.
00:42One by one, hot glue the pencils to the can.
00:45I already set up my pencils in ombre order, so there's no guesswork.
00:48Every so often, I set the can upright to make sure all the pencils are level.
01:07Pretty snazzy for a Dollar Store pencil holder.
01:12Okay, are you ready for this one?
01:14We're making a side table out of a Dollar Store trash can and some rope.
01:18Oh, and a glue gun.
01:19This is really simple.
01:21Start with the rope at the base of the can and just start gluing it down, making your
01:25way up the can.
01:26Make sure you keep the rope taut the whole way so you don't get any gaps.
01:30What's great about this is you can choose any kind of rope.
01:32I picked this natural fiber one because I love the texture.
01:38So we've reached the top, and guess what?
01:40You just keep on gluing.
01:47When you get to the middle, trim off the excess rope, but leave yourself a little tail that
01:51you can fit perfectly in the hole.
01:56And voila, you're done.
02:01Not bad for a Dollar Store hack.
02:03Next, we're transforming these Dollar Store ceramics into something a little more fun.
02:12Take your clean teacup and using a clean paintbrush, apply rubbing alcohol where you want to add color.
02:18I'm applying the ink straight from the bottle, but you can use a paintbrush if you want more
02:22control of the design.
02:24It's important to work quickly because the alcohol will start to dry.
02:29Take your straw and begin to blow the ink dry.
02:32You'll see it creates this really cool watercolor effect.
02:39Once you're happy with your design, let it dry and then lock it in with dishwasher safe
02:43sealant.
02:46Now you're ready for some tea.
02:52And there you have it, an affordable way to take a teacup and saucer from the Dollar Store
02:56and turn it into a set worthy of high tea.
02:59Thanks so much for watching and see you next time.
