00:09Every day I come in, I like put my jacket away in the closet and I sit down in what
00:13I call my Mr. Rogers chair and I sort of take off my shoes.
00:17It's just sort of what I do.
00:20I live in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn in a traditional one-bedroom apartment, railroad style.
00:25I pay $2,000 a month, which is a lot, and it's about 600 square feet.
00:34Here you have my kitchen. The sunlight in the kitchen is probably one of my favorite things about this apartment.
00:41I grew up in Florida and I don't really like miss the beach or anything, but I really do miss
00:46just being around plants.
00:48I like to joke that being a plant lady is the new cat lady.
00:52So I actually do a lot of cooking. I also like to keep some stuff that I can make some
00:58easy meals.
00:59I am not like one of those New Yorkers that just order Seamless all the time.
01:04This is my little nook that I eat at. I have people over. We sit here.
01:08Above it is where I keep like all my little tchotchkes and things I've gathered from travels.
01:13The person that owned the building originally owned a tin ceiling company, so each room in the building has a
01:21different tin ceiling pattern, which is really cool.
01:24So now I'll show you guys my bathroom.
01:28Small but mighty.
01:29My least favorite part about the apartment is probably my shower.
01:34It's just really small and tight. It's like kind of like the tube you would roll up to at a
01:39teller's window.
01:40I picked this sort of dark teal color. It's somewhere in between hunter green and navy blue because I like
01:46the way it looks with black and white tile.

01:54I like to burn different scents.
01:57Palo Santo is one of my favorite smells.
02:00Growing up, I lived in eight different houses all in the same city.
02:05My parents, on the side, they build and sort of design houses.
02:10It's definitely affected my home sensibility in the way that home is really important.
02:16It's a part of me. It is something that reflects me. It's something that evolves over time.
02:22This is my living space.
02:24This is one of my favorite faces. It's from the Memphis Group Collective, Sudsauce.
02:29I just like it. I don't know why.
02:32This is my couch. It was $650. I got it secondhand.
02:38I sort of bought it with the intent to reupholster it.

02:47This is my art nook where I keep all my art supplies, books, I do my painting.
02:51I started painting patterns as a way to relax and zone out, listen to music.
02:55It has since just become something I do on the side.
02:59So I paint everything from wrapping paper to textile designs for clothing.
03:05Art's a huge part of my life.
03:06It sort of influenced my home style in the way that like just having sort of a space to be
03:11able to do it
03:12and to constantly create, but also to sort of like honor this that it will always be in motion and
03:17changing
03:17and nothing will ever be perfect.
03:19So sort of embracing like a wabi-sabi mentality of liking imperfections and sort of embracing them.
03:27Lastly, I'll walk you into my bedroom.
03:30I was going for I think just like a very chill and serene vibe.
03:34I really try not to bring electronics into the bed, specifically my laptop.
03:39If I have to work late or from home, I'll work in the kitchen.
03:43I'm super neat. I've been that way my whole life.
03:46It frees up brain space basically for me to be more productive and more creative and just the way I
03:52like to live.
03:52I walk you through my closet, robes, more robes, more hair ribbons.
03:58I think you can never have too many of those.
04:00I like to keep my closet sort of meticulously organized.
04:05Sweaters, pants. I like to fold like a store.
04:07I love Curl Gardens because it has a great sense of community.
04:10It's the kind of place that you can go in and get to know the people that work at the
04:14coffee shops.
04:15Actually, the day I moved in, I was getting groceries downstairs at the sandwich shop that I live above
04:21and I got to know the owner and a couple months later we started dating and he's my boyfriend.
04:27So that's probably my favorite part about this apartment was meeting someone really special.
04:33And it just feels like a special little New York story as well.
04:36I think it's hard to describe like my home style.
04:38I think of it in like different regions.
04:41So like maybe my kitchen's like your English grandmother and my bedroom's sort of like your hippie sister that lives
04:50in L.A.
04:51And then my living room is sort of like your really eccentric New York aunt.
04:58Living alone in New York was definitely a goal for me.
05:01I don't have like a lot of roommate horror stories from my New York experience, thankfully.
05:05But I think there's just like an element of living alone that is more serene and calm.
05:11I started looking for one bedroom apartments about two years before I moved just to sort of get a sense
05:17of market pricing.
05:19And then I adjusted my lifestyle then so I knew I would be able to do it.
05:24I also wanted to have like pocket of adulthood that was like really special when it was just me.
05:31It's been wonderful. I think living alone builds character.
05:34It's given me like a really big sense of pride.
05:37So yeah, I love living alone.
