00:10So as you can see, we are in a very tiny New York studio. I live in Harlem, New York.
00:14I pay $16.75 in rent.
00:16I kind of feel like I'm paying a lot. I'm on the fence. I think it's fine for what I
00:22get. I live alone.
00:23My utilities are tethered to my rent, so that is a clean $16.75 that I pay. I don't have
00:28to worry about an additional
00:29electric bill. This is my bedroom. I love for my bed to be very cozy and warm. I'm really big
00:37on textures,
00:38so this duvet cover is waffled. Everything is very shaggy and touchy. Oh, I want you to meet someone.
00:45This is Mickey. This was my very, very first stuffed animal. My grandfather bought it for me when my mom
00:49found out
00:50that she was pregnant. I just knew Mickey Mouse. I didn't understand Minnie Mouse, so she has always been Mickey.
00:55And we've gone everywhere together. We've gone to college. She's been in all three of my New York apartments.
00:59So the bed skirt falls to the floor. There are six shoe bins under my bed, a big bin of
01:04linens.
01:05Like, it's literally all storage underneath there. My mom, she searched for a very long time to find the bed
01:11skirt.
01:11It hides my mess, but also, like, brings it together and feels very grown up and somewhat chic.
01:16I'm a fashion news writer. I got into fashion, like, in a roundabout way, actually.
01:20I went to the college for broadcast journalism. We had to have a website to post our videos that we
01:25shot and edited on.
01:26At the end of the year, I turned that into a fashion blog, and then I used the clips from
01:30that website to start writing in fashion.
01:33This you would consider my closet. It literally only holds my dresses and my skirts into pairs of shoes, nothing
01:39else.
01:39I took the closet door off because it would have, like, cut the room up in a very awkward way.
01:44Every single time I bring something into this apartment, something else has to go out.
01:47If I bring a coat in, a coat has to go out. If I bring home a pair of shoes,
01:50a pair of shoes has to go out.
01:51There's a Goodwill two blocks up. They see me literally all the time.
01:54And that way, I'm, like, constantly editing my closet into things that I really love and wear.
01:59The most expensive thing in my apartment, I had saved up for it. I wanted to buy it, and this
02:04bag was over $2,000.
02:06And I clearly needed to be a little champagne drunk to, like, have handed my card over.
02:11But I want you to meet her. Her name is Cece. She's a little dirty. This is why I haven't
02:15been carrying her.
02:16This is Cece. Now we are in my living room. My love seat is from 1 Kings Lane.
02:23I also am very proud of the fact that I don't have anything from Ikea in here.
02:27My mom is the key, though, because she is, like, the truest HomeGoods shopper.
02:31The blue chairs came from HomeGoods. A few of the ottomans came from HomeGoods.
02:36The pillows came from HomeGoods. My mom's my favorite apartment sign, actually.
02:40Those are old flowers, my initial, one of my favorite pairs of shoes. This was the box that it came
02:45in.
02:46And that's Diana Ross, because she makes everything fabulous.
02:48So this is my bookcase, which serves the purpose of holding more than just books.
02:52It came with me from my very first apartment. My mom found it at Costco. These are all lipsticks.
02:57I probably don't even wear half of them. I just clean this out. Like, these are the things I felt
03:02very strongly about.
03:03These are my very first plants. So this is Boy, spelled with an I. This is Roro, and that's Figgy
03:09there in the corner.
03:10And they are succulents. This is an aloe plant. But I was told that these are the easiest to manage,
03:15because you only have to water them, like, once a month, which is true.
03:18This is the first time that I've ever had living things in this apartment that weren't fresh flowers.
03:23I usually have fresh flowers. And I entertain a lot. I think there is no better sound than, like, people
03:27you love laughing in your apartment.
03:29Believe it or not, I can fit ten people in this apartment. I think because it's so open with the
03:33way that I've laid it out by keeping the bed in the corner.
03:36We could do more if you wanted to try, but ten people can have seats.
03:39We are now entering my desk slash serving table. I eat here. I work here. I do arts and crafts
03:48here. Not really, but if I did, I would.
03:50Why did I do arts and crafts? I made these myself. The Lucite stools are not comfortable to sit on.
03:54I wrapped the seating pad in tulle to, like, kind of hide it and make it cuter.
03:58It looks like Carrie Bradshaw's skirt in the opening credits underneath, which was intentional, but we don't have to talk
04:04about it.
04:04Come on in. This is my kitchen. I am very proud of my bar tray. I can't fit a cart,
04:11obviously, but this is my bar tray.
04:13In my apartment, we drink tequila or champagne, tiny stove, tiny fridge, which always has a bottle of champagne and
04:21a bag of potatoes,
04:22which is a food group in my life because you can have mashed potatoes, french fries, breakfast. That's all I
04:29want to eat are potatoes.
04:30In my next apartment, I really want full-size appliances. In my New York life, I have never had a
04:35full-size fridge,
04:37which is fine because I'm a single person. I don't have a lot of food typically, but, like, that just
04:41feels like grown up.
04:42But I think the best thing about my kitchen is that it serves a little bit of my closet, my
04:48pants folded in here.
04:52Along the top, I have shoes, which I'm going to spider monkey my way up here.
04:55There's nine pairs of shoes up here. Well, these are heels. These are, like, special occasion shoes.
05:00I don't typically wear them, like, during the week. I do wear them around my apartment.
05:06This is a no-shoes apartment, and I stand by that. But occasionally, when I miss certain pairs of shoes,
05:11I do sit in them and, like, read or drink tea. And let's see, the bathroom.
05:16But first, I want to point out my Good Things in New York map.
05:19My goal for it once a week is to put a good thing that happened at the intersection that happened
05:24in New York City.
05:25I've had this up for three weeks, and I've only done one thing, so I have to play Ketchup a
05:29little bit.
05:30This one happened at 77 Broadway, and I hosted a panel at Facebook.
05:34My best friend lives off of this stop. She should get a heart.
05:37My office building, where I work, is downtown, and I think that also should get a heart.
05:41Okay, let's go to the bathroom.
05:43So this is the bathroom. It's really tiny. I don't have a tub.
05:46This is not a functional shower curtain. I just thought it was pretty.
05:49The most annoying thing about my bathroom is because I am so short,
05:52I can't look directly into the mirror without getting on my tippy toes.
05:56But I tell myself it's good exercise.
05:58I would describe my home style similar to the way that I get dressed in the morning.
06:05It's very moody, very rich in textures and colors.
06:10Things that when I look at, they make me smile.
06:12I don't think that you should have to wait until company comes over to, like,
06:17put out the nice hand cream or the nice lotion.
06:19I like to treat myself as a guest.
06:21The worst part about my apartment, probably the man that lives downstairs.
06:25He will walk all the way up, and instead of knocking on the door and be like,
06:28hey, you know, your music's a little loud. Could you just maybe tone it down?
06:31He will tape the note to my door, which I don't see, obviously, until the next day when I'm leaving.
06:35But I save all of them, because, like, who knows?
06:38The worst part about living in New York, how tough everything is.
06:42It's like, everything is like a fight on the plus side of things.
06:45It encourages your hustle, and it's also, like, just validating that you can come here and be who you want
06:50to be.
06:50That was kind of corny, but I meant it.
