00:00Hey guys, it's Lucy Fink, and for the next five days, I'll be sleeping for 10 hours per night.
00:07Sleep's great. I'm pretty much doing it right now.
00:12Something that we always talk about in the office is how little sleep we get, and how we always wish
00:17we had more.
00:18Did you know that 40% of Americans get less than the recommended amount of sleep per night?
00:22Some of my co-workers only sleep four hours per night.
00:26As society is set up right now, we're constantly running from place to place.
00:30And it's really hard to get a full night's sleep in.
00:32We work very hard, and we do not sleep enough for the amount we work.
00:36So this week, I'm going to flip the script on society.
00:39Starting right now, Monday night, and instead of getting too little sleep,
00:42I'm going to kick back and get 10 hours per night and see how my body responds.
00:48Sleep messes up my everything.
00:50Because I sleep covered in anti-aging creams, retainers.
00:56Like, every part of me is, like, sealed and, like, working towards perfection.
01:01I feel so incredibly well-rested right now.
01:04I just came out of a crazy weekend where I slept, like, four hours a night.
01:07So getting 10 hours last night was a miracle dream.
01:12I tracked my sleep using an app called Sleep Cycle.
01:15I got 10 hours and two minutes, to be exact.
01:17Did you know that the average person sleeps for about one-third of their life?
01:22If you live to 75, you will have been asleep for 25 years.
01:26I'm really excited to sleep 10 hours again tonight.
01:30It's nighttime, and guess what I'm doing?
01:33Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
01:36Going to bed.
01:37Normally, I would sacrifice a full night's sleep for my social life, but I had to reject it.
01:42I literally just got home from work.
01:46What an exciting life.
01:54I haven't been able to fall asleep, and I've tried every trick in the book.
01:58I put on a sleep mask to block the light.
02:01I made myself a glass of warm milk.
02:03I even set up a noise machine in the corner of my room.
02:06My body just doesn't want sleep.
02:08I have to keep setting my alarm back, so that I get 10 hours of sleep.
02:12Being on my computer is probably not helping, so I'm going to go back and try again.
02:19I love sleep.
02:21Scale 1 to 10, like 8.2.
02:24Saying 10 is like, yeah, I enjoy being dead.
02:27I was late to work today.
02:28That's just not something that I can do on the reg.
02:33Last night was like a quasi-nightmare.
02:36I was tossing and turning, and I don't even blame myself, because my body is just so not
02:41used to getting that many hours of sleep, that I can't even imagine what's going on
02:45in my brain right now.
02:46My brain is probably thinking, what are you doing?
02:49I had my friend's birthday dinner tonight that I just couldn't miss.
02:52I never said that I needed to get 10 consecutive hours of sleep.
02:55I've decided that I'm going to get 9 hours of sleep tonight.
02:57I'm going to be on time tomorrow.
02:59And then, I'm going to choose 1 hour out of my day tomorrow.
03:02Probably my lunch hour, and I'm going to take a nap.
03:06Yeah, why don't humans hibernate?
03:08I feel like we should take a note from nature or something and sleep all winter.
03:13I think the bears are onto something.
03:15Did you know that humans are in the 15% minority of mammals who have two distinctive periods
03:21of the day?
03:22One for sleep, one for being awake.
03:24All the other mammals are sleeping intermittently throughout the day, taking naps.
03:28I was going to do it in my office, but it's a little loud here.
03:31I didn't really know where I would go.
03:32So, I left and I went to Yellow Spa.
03:35They put me in this room that was changing color.
03:38I was in the most comfortable chair, completely tilted backwards, with my feet lifted upwards.
03:44That's actually the way astronauts sleep.
03:46That's the natural form your body takes when there's zero gravity.
03:51When I'm really tired and work day, I have some tips.
03:54You should really listen to some really good empowering music, like Enya or Drake.
03:59That'll really get your blood pumping.
04:01Baby, love, and that's in the music video.
04:04And she's wearing jacquemme, which is just so fabulous.
04:07Coming into this week, I felt like, I don't sleep enough.
04:09I'm always tired.
04:10My co-workers are always talking about how we don't get enough sleep.
04:13But what I came to learn is that getting 10 hours of sleep every night is not conducive
04:17to my current lifestyle.
04:18All this week, I kind of felt like I was falling behind from my co-workers.
04:22You know, everyone was up and at them, at work early, getting their stuff done.
04:26And I would roll in late because I was trying to get my 10 hours in.
04:29You know, Thomas Edison carried his lack of sleep as a badge of honor.
04:33Martha Stewart built her entire empire and just four hours of sleep a night.
04:37And that's a good thing.
04:3910 hours of sleep is two hours shy from sleeping half the day away.
04:44Ain't nobody got time for that?
