00:00Clap.
00:01Do I need to clap again or no?
00:03Mm-mm.
00:04OK.
00:09My name is Jamie Hoard.
00:10I am the founder of Hoardly Professional Organizing.
00:13And today, we are going to provide you with some tips and tricks
00:16to get your small space closet organized,
00:19along with your dresser drawers.
00:21Before we dive in and start tackling the space,
00:23make sure you have Post-its, Sharpies,
00:26trash bags, and cleaning supplies
00:28to wipe down the space once it's empty.
00:30Let's go check out the before space.
00:34So this is a good example of a closet
00:37that doesn't have the proper systems put in place.
00:41First off, it looks like it needs a little bit of a declutter
00:44or an edit.
00:45But there's also no containment, no labels,
00:50a mixture of hangers, products aren't streamlined.
00:52We are going to take you through our process
00:55and show you how we would organize this space.
00:58The first step in our Hoardly process
01:00is to take everything out.
01:02And we mean everything.
01:03We want to start with a blank canvas.
01:06Sort piles with lights with likes.
01:09This way you can see how much you have of each item.
01:12But make sure you're not jumping ahead to the editing step just yet.
01:16We're just doing a full pullout and sort.
01:18We know it might feel a little daunting to get that space organized,
01:22but you have to start somewhere.
01:24So remind yourself that it's going to get a little worse
01:26before it gets better.
01:28So as you're pulling everything out and making your sorted piles,
01:31use your post-it notes and your sharpie to label those piles.
01:36Once you've pulled everything out of the closet,
01:38give everything a good wipe down.
01:40Next step is we are going to edit,
01:43which means deciding keep, toss, donate.
01:46At this point you should have everything pulled out of your closet,
01:50your closet wiped down, and everything into sorted piles.
01:53You can now see how much you have of each category.
01:57This way you can really consider that while you edit.
02:01If you're really short on space,
02:03use MakeSpace to store your off-season items.
02:06This is the part where it can really feel like it's getting worse
02:10before it gets better.
02:11So don't let this stuff overwhelm you
02:13and be sure to stick with the process to avoid any overwhelm.
02:19Now that everything has been pulled out of the closet,
02:22sorted and edited, it's time to put everything back.
02:26Containment is key.
02:27So use baskets and bins to give everything a proper home.
02:30All of our products that we use here today are from the Container Store.
02:36Consider what's prime real estate and what's not prime real estate.
02:40Prime real estate is going to be any area that's super easily accessible for you.
02:46And you want to put items there that you're using most often.
02:52Be sure to label these bins so that you remember exactly what's in them.
02:57At Horderly, we love using the Brother P-Touch Cube Plus Label Maker.
03:02There's no such thing as over-labeling.
03:04Label everything to create those new habits of knowing where to find something
03:08and more importantly, where to put it back.
03:12To maximize your space even more, utilize vertical space, wall space.
03:18So here we hung a hook to hang our go-to bag.
03:23After tackling that closet, keep the momentum up and try tackling your dresser drawers.
03:30Three of our favorite tips for the dresser are file folding, using drawer dividers, and labeling.
03:40And this is the after of our closet.
03:45So a few tips that we did here.
03:48We always want to make sure the floor is as clear as possible.
03:52So we try to get everything up off the floor.
03:54We created a bag full of bags with a suitcase.
03:58And then you always want to make sure your products and hangers are streamlined.
04:04So use all matching hangers.
04:07Getting organized is so good for your mental clarity of knowing exactly what you have in your home
04:13and knowing where to find those items when you need them.
04:16Thanks for watching.
04:17We hope you enjoyed organizing your space with us.
