00:23Hi, I'm Courtney. I live in a one-bedroom apartment in Astoria with my fiancee Jack.
00:28Part of the reason we chose this apartment was because of the huge walk-in closet.
00:33I just don't know how to sort through all of my stuff.
00:36I need help.

00:45Wow.
00:46It's very stressful trying to get things out of the closet. Because of my height, it's very hard for me
00:50to reach things.
00:51So I kind of just throw the sweatshirts on top of the closet.
00:54There's a lot of stuff in here.
00:56Jack has a ton of hats.
00:57I don't think I've seen this many hats outside of a hat store in my entire life.
01:02I can't even walk into it without stepping on a shoe.
01:05Okay, there is a shoe rack in here, but there are shoes on the floor as well.
01:09Not sure when he wore this last because there is a giant dust bunny on it.
01:14Nothing is folded correctly. Nothing is where it's supposed to be.
01:17And sometimes things just fall on top of me.
01:20Originally, we wanted the closet to be split half and half, half of my stuff, half of Jack's stuff.
01:25But it hasn't really been working out that way.
01:27It's so hard for either of us to find what we're trying to wear.
01:30Both of us keep bumping into each other and we end up fighting about it.
01:33Okay, all right.
01:35Courtney and Jack are fortunate to have a walk-in closet, but it feels very tiny because of the
01:40clutter and overwhelming amount of clothes.
01:42So I'm here to help them find a new system that works for both of them.
01:46What are you thinking and hoping for your closet?
01:49I want Jack to have a place to put his hats, not just throw them up there.
01:53I would love to have my sweatshirts in some kind of order.
01:56I'd really love if we could get some matching hangers just so it would look a little nicer.

02:02For this space, it's not a matter of getting rid of things but putting them in the right place.
02:06I'm excited to kind of tackle this and find some new solutions for you.

02:24Jack's here to help us with the hardest part, emptying out the closet.
02:28Then he's got to go to work and it's up to me and Meggle to do the rest.
02:31I'm nervous because I don't want any of it to be gone when I get back.
02:35So I'm trusting you with almost literally all of my belongings.
02:39The first thing that we're going to do is empty out the closet and then just sort things as we
02:44go.
02:44So when we put things back into the closet, there is an order to it.

02:56The shoe rack is caught on a shoe.
03:00All right, I guess I'll have to go to work now.

03:14We've emptied out the closet.
03:16I am seriously shocked that all of this even fit in the closet.
03:20There's so much to go through.
03:23Ready to start filling everything?
03:25I am so ready.
03:28We're going to sort through everything, get them in their respective piles.
03:32We're going to switch out the old hangers for the new hangers.
03:34The velvet allows straps and shirts to hold onto them very easily and they don't take up as much of
03:40space.
03:40I chose two purse organizers that will allow you to see the purses that you have and you'll be able
03:46to
03:47easily access them and use all of them.
03:49For your side, Courtney, we got a four-section shelving organizer with a garment rod at the bottom.
03:54Let's roll up the sweatshirt so you can see which one each is and they'll easily fit in the hanging
03:59organizers.
03:59For the tops, let's organize them by type and if necessary, we can organize them by color.
04:04That way, you can form a mental image in your mind of where everything is and plus it looks good.
04:09What's great about Jack is that he's so tall.
04:11We repurposed the shoe organizer that was living outside of the closet and put that up top to hold
04:16all of Jack's pants.
04:17You'll have more walking space in front of your closet and the pants will have a place to live.
04:22For Jack's side, I also got a shelving organizer and it's still pretty slim so when we put this on
04:27the garment rod, he still will have plenty of room to hang the rest of his jerseys and shirts.
04:32I think one of the most challenging aspects of this closet was figuring out to do with all of the
04:37shoes.
04:38We actually got a organizer that can hang on the back of your door.
04:42Courtney, your shoes are smaller so they'll easily fit in the organizer.
04:45For Jack's side, we're taking the shoe organizer which originally had all of your shoes on it and
04:51putting his shoes on it and this will keep all of the shoes off the floor and up.
04:56You guys have probably like five million hats between the both of you and I think Jack has most of
05:01them.
05:01I purchased two hat organizers.
05:03You clip hooks onto an adjustable nylon strap.
05:06We're just going to mount them to the wall and each hook can fit a few hats.
05:09Hopefully with these two hat organizers, we can clip the five million hats that are in this apartment.
05:16We have finished organizing and cleaning your closet.
05:20Everything's back in place and I would say a better place than before.
05:23I love how this came out.
05:25I'm not tripping over any shoes.
05:27I'm not searching for any sweatshirts.
05:30Everything is right where it needs to be.
05:31I don't feel like there's as much clutter.
05:34I just feel so much better right now.
05:36Are you excited about anything in particular?
05:37Yeah, I'm really excited about the matching hangers.
05:41To organize this closet, we spent a total of $220.
05:45Honestly, I was a little nervous that it wasn't going to work out,
05:48but magically everything came together.
05:50But it still is pretty tight.
05:52There isn't that much room to grow.
05:53So I think for both of you moving forward, say you buy a new pair of shoes,
05:58get rid of a pair that you don't like or don't use.
06:02That way it won't end up overflowing again.
06:04So you think you can keep it up?
06:06Keep it clean?
06:07I know I'll keep my side clean.
06:08I mean, like who knows with this one.
06:10He like buys a new hat every day, so.
