00:12Hi, I'm Connie. I'm the fashion teachers director at Refinery29. As much as I love
00:16getting dressed in the morning, it can be sort of a burden. I challenged myself to
00:21wear the exact same outfit for the 31-day uniform. Recently, I became really
00:30interested in the idea of decision fatigue. Exhaustion and reduced decision
00:35making skills caused by the process of making lots of choices. If you take away
00:38the small decisions that you make every single day in your life, it frees you up
00:42to be more creative and productive in other areas. In a winter, basically wears
00:46the same thing, like a floral ship dress and, you know, mules or slingbacks, you
00:51know, Karl Lagerfeld wears the same thing every single day. So, I went into my
00:55closet and I looked at what I had the most of. What is like a Halloween costume
00:59version of Connie? What says Connie? It isn't ridiculous. I'm a little bit nervous,
01:08but really excited that I never have to think about this again for the next
01:12month. I know that you're wearing the same thing every single day, but I think
01:19that, like, I always find something new to like about it.
01:26Doing this was supposed to be that you're a more productive and a more
01:29creative person. I call bullshit on that. Like, I've been, like, deprived and I'm
01:36hungry for, like, variation and change. I had to deviate twice because I was going to
01:42events where I could not wear this outfit without being so, so embarrassed. I have worn
01:49this outfit every single day. I hate it.
02:02Pros. My mornings were insanely quick. Also, traveling was a piece of cake. I didn't
02:08take anything in my carry-on suitcase. Number three, I had a really acute sense of
02:13my body since I was wearing the same clothes every single day. So, for cons, even
02:18though a lot of people didn't notice, some people did, and those situations were
02:21very mortifying, to say the least. I treat getting dressed as a creative outlet in
02:25the morning, and because I didn't have that thing to jump-start my brain, I
02:28actually came to work feeling really, really tired. And number three, I started
02:33fetishizing and fantasizing clothes in a really unhealthy way, and I actually shopped
02:38a lot more than I usually do, which was not so good.
02:43My takeaway. Clothes are really important to me. I actually consider this 31-day
02:48uniform a fast, and so at the very end of it, you know, I, you know, rekindled my love
02:54for everything I have in my closet and, like, the endorphins that were going on for the
02:58first time, like, when I stepped into my closet to get dressed in the morning, where
03:01just, like, nothing I had ever felt before was, like, being on drugs, which is so strange,
03:05actually.
