The Marshalls — the widowed ranger father Rick and his two children Will and Holly — are, as so often before, on an outdoor expedition. While rafting on this trip, an earthquake opens a chasm, causing them to plunge over some raging rapids and an unknown waterfall. They survive, but find themselves in an unfamiliar world, a world in which they will ultimately shape the Land of the Lost. It is inhabited by creatures, some of which they have never seen or heard of, and some of which no longer exist in the world they knew at home, creatures like dinosaurs.
