Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has staked a claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu, submitting a letter of support from 118 legislators to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan.
Transcript
00:02All right, viewers, as we've got our eyes firmly on Lok Bhavan, where Vijay has gone for the third time
00:09with a letter in hand with 118 signatures.
00:11Last time he was there was 112. But we're going to get you the inside track.
00:16So how Vijay with his numbers came together and how he nearly didn't.
00:21Because the left parties who have now pledged support, unconditional support at that to Vijay, have now made an explosive
00:29statement.
00:30And it seems that the left was being coerced by none else but their ally DMK to support who? The
00:39AIDMK.
00:40So all that talk, all what was laid as sheer conspiracy theories has now been exposed by one of the
00:47allies of the DMK saying that it was the left, it was DMK who wanted us to go with it
00:54to offer outside support to the AIDMK and form government.
01:00Well, joining me for more is Mr. M.A. Baby, General Secretary, CPIM.
01:06Thank you, sir, for taking the time out and joining us this evening.
01:09You've had a last tumultuous 48 hours deciding whether to leave your ally or not.
01:15I want to ask you right off the bat, what made you decide to go ahead and form an alliance
01:20with the TVK and leave DMK?
01:29You see, the verdict of the Tamil Nadu people was very clear.
01:36It was in favor of TVK.
01:39TVK of Vijay turned out to be the single largest party, short of few seats to cross the halfway mark
01:50of majority.
01:52So the governor should have invited the leader of the largest party to form the government.
01:58That has been the practice.
02:00That is the practice followed when BJP was the single largest party in Lok Sabha.
02:06Vajpayeeji was invited and he remained as prime minister for 13 days.
02:11In this particular case, TVK had a shortage of only 11 seats, if I remember correctly.
02:20And now we have offered support in this particular case because we felt that BJP, which is ruling the union
02:31government,
02:32through the governor, has been trying to manipulate the verdict of the people in Tamil Nadu.
02:38So to prevent BJP from interfering with the people's verdict in Tamil Nadu, we, CPIM, CPI and VCK,
02:52together we have six members.
02:57Already TVK is short of, you know, four or five members.
03:02So once we extend support, now Tamil Nadu government has no, Tamil Nadu governor has no option but to invite
03:11Mr. Joseph Vijay, the leader of TVK.
03:17Mr. Baby, we've got our eyes peeled on Lok Bhavan, where your signatories, four of your MLAs,
03:24two from CPIM and two from CPI, have been given to Vijay.
03:30He's gone inside Lok Bhavan.
03:31But I want to ask you one key question, MABB, and that question is,
03:35what made you leave your trusted old allied DMK?
03:39The DMK very upset with the Congress as well for leaving it.
03:43You see, Congress just walked out of a DMK front without any consultation.
03:51In our case, we had consultation with Mr. Stalin.
03:55Our Tamil Nadu leaders had meetings with Mr. Stalin.
03:59Then this idea was being broached that DMK will support a government led by a DMK.
04:11And DMK wish that we also support that kind of an arrangement.
04:18A DMK was defeated in the election.
04:21DMK was also defeated.
04:23We were part of DMK front.
04:25So we lost.
04:27In this particular case, we are not forming the government.
04:30We are extending support to the single largest party in Tamil Nadu Assembly.
04:36And BJP and RSS, they are trying to prevent the single largest party from coming into office of the chief
04:44minister.
04:45So this is an extraordinary situation.
04:48Mr. Baby, what you're saying is tectonic.
04:51What you're saying is huge.
04:52Because in somewhat manner, it exposes the DMK.
04:56So you are saying, sir, that the DMK wanted to support the AIDMK and was also asking you to do
05:04so.
05:05And you did not agree with it.
05:07So before the DMK and the AIDMK could get numbers, you decided to support the TVK.
05:13This is huge, sir.
05:14So the DMK was trying to form a government with the AIDMK.
05:20No.
05:21DMK told us that they are in favor of supporting from outside an AIDMK government.
05:29And other details, there is no need to discuss with us.
05:33So DMK was fair enough to consult with us what DMK wished to do.
05:42That's big, sir.
05:43That is big.
05:44So you're practically saying that the DMK wanted to support the AIDMK and you did not want to do so.
05:51I want to ask you, sir, are you in?
05:55I'm going to come back to you, sir.
05:57If you can hold on for just a moment, I'm going to cut across to Pramod, who is right now
06:01outside the Lok Bhavan,
06:03where you have Vijay from the TVK, who's gone inside.
06:08But if we have Akshita, let's cut across to her for a quick comment.
06:11And I'm back with Mr. Baby after that.
06:13I said, Akshita, this is huge.
06:14Because here, all right, we don't have Akshita or Pramod.
06:18Let's cut across back to Mr. Baby.
06:21M.A. Baby, what you have just said is huge.
06:25So the DMK, you are saying, asked you to support the AIDMK in that endeavor.
06:32Did the Congress speak to the left parties, sir, today, you know, to get support?
06:37Or you decided on your own that we need to now move out of this alliance, especially the DMK,
06:43because it's going the AIDMK way and support TVK?
06:48No, DMK wish that we to follow the approach of DMK.
06:55But it has been decided that our leaders would meet Mr. Thiru Mutuvel Karnamithi Stalin and explain.
07:06We are not, you know, saying that we are going to oppose DMK.
07:11But we cannot accept the political line to support ADMK, which was part of BJP, which was part of the
07:25NDA alliance.
07:27So that's the point.
07:28Sir, I understand.
07:30So you're saying you could not support the DMK's political line to support the AIDMK.
07:36You've made that very clear.
07:37I want to ask you one quick question.
07:38Will you be part of the government or which is or supported from outside?
07:42You've offered unconditional support.
07:44What are the conditions to this unconditional support?
07:50Mr. Vijay wrote to us, wrote to CPM, wrote to CPI and wrote to VCK.
07:55Okay, our parties independently discuss.
07:58We mutually discuss.
08:00Then it has been decided by us that we will communicate to Mr. Thiru Mutuvel Karnamithi Stalin
08:07that this is the stand we are going to take.
08:11Because BJP is playing.
08:13BJP is trying to create a situation which would be advantageous to BJP.
08:20We want to prevent that.
08:22We wanted to defend secularism.
08:23We wanted to defend federalism.
08:27And also we wanted to defend the general essence of the verdict of the election.
08:33Tamil Nadu people wanted a change.
08:35They overwhelmingly voted for TVK.
08:38And TVK turned out to be the single largest party, short of few seats for majority.
08:46Mr. Baby, one quick question before you let us, you know, we let you go.
08:50Big news you've given us, sir.
08:51You've practically said that the DMK wanted to support the AIDMK.
08:55Now, I want to ask you, on a state level, you've moved out of that alliance with the DMK.
08:59Are you going back into that alliance at a national level?
09:03Where do you stand?
09:03Is there an India alliance at all anymore?
09:06Are you still with the DMK on a national level?
09:10We are now, we have now decided to extend support to Mr. Joseph Vijay to form a government, a TVK
09:21government.
09:22We are supporting that government.
09:25In this part of the government, sir, or outside?
09:29No, we have not taken any decision about that.
09:32That we will discuss.
09:34We will cross the bridge when we reach the bridge.
09:41All right, M.A. Baby, thank you for joining us.
09:44You know, there seems to be a bit of confusion at our PCR end.
09:47We are going to just try and correct that.
09:48But thank you, Mr. Baby, for joining us with all that explosive news that you have come up with and
09:53given us,
09:54that practically means that the DMK wanted to support the EAI DMK from the outside.
09:59We'll be joined by Mr. Manikam Tagore from the Congress in just a short while,
10:03who's going to give us what was the Congress's game plan.
10:06But because I'm going to take you briefly to where the action is.
10:08And the action is right now at Lok Bhawan, very close to from where I am standing.
10:15Vijay is inside, lock in conversation with the governor.
10:20Let's cut across and get the latest.
10:22Visuals coming in.
10:24Akshita, over to you.
10:25For the first pictures that come in right now,
10:29as Vijay has just made his way out of the Lok Bhawan,
10:32he's made his way outside after a brief meeting,
10:35just about five minutes meeting with the governor,
10:37much like what we saw two days ago.
10:39The agenda was very, very clear that he would have to go ahead
10:42and submit a letter seeking support.
10:44And that's about it.
10:46He submitted that letter.
10:47He doesn't know his ass from his elbow.
10:49Can I get some?
10:50And as we get you those live updates,
10:58Preeti, I'll just quickly give you another update that's coming in right now
11:03on the numbers that we have.
11:06At this point, we are hearing it's 118.
11:09There's a possibility, though, of that number going up as well.
11:13We are hearing that there are a few others who are extending their support to Vijay,
11:18but don't expect a big jump, really.
11:20It could be just a question of one or two.
11:23But right now, here at the Lok Bhawan,
11:25Vijay has handed over that letter.
11:27We're waiting.
11:28We're waiting for the first pictures of Vijay meeting with Governor Arnekar
11:32and the big takeaway.
11:34Two days ago, when he met with the governor,
11:36we said this is history in the making.
11:38He claimed to form the government.
11:39Now, at this point, with the situation as is,
11:43we're going to wait for the governor to give that final nod
11:45and say Vijay is truly the talapati of Tamil Nadu,
11:49is the CMLL.
11:50So, we're standing by for those first pictures.
11:52We're still waiting for a confirmation on the numbers, Preeti.
11:55At this point, it looks like it's 118.
11:58If he gets maybe one or two more additional bonus, essentially,
12:01from what he's received.
12:02Okay.
12:03Let's ask...
12:05Akshita, let's ask Manikam Tagore.
12:07Let's ask Manikam Tagore.
12:08Manikam Tagore, first up, big news there,
12:10you know, of what most of the Congress was saying,
12:13that the DMK is trying to get into a truck
12:16in an alliance with the BJP and the AIDMK.
12:19One of your allies has said that,
12:22yes, that in fact was true.
12:24And there was also pressure on the left parties
12:26to do the same, Manikam Tagore.
12:30It is very surprising and very shocking also to hear this fact
12:39from a senior leader like Mr. Baby,
12:45who is the general secretary of the CPM.
12:48And we are...
12:49Because that was not discussed with Congress,
12:51because by that time we had joined with the TBK
12:55and we are not part of that discussion itself.
13:01All right, Mr. Tagore, you know,
13:02you're being quite kind.
13:03You were quite angry yesterday,
13:06especially where the DMK was concerned.
13:08I want to cut across right now to Suman S. Raman,
13:10who's joining us.
13:11He's been closely watching all developments, Akshita,
13:14while we also have our eyes at Lok Bhawan,
13:16where Vijay would be coming out any time.
13:19What is the support looking like?
13:21How many numbers he has?
13:22But viewers, that's the beauty of politics.
13:24Once you can stake claim,
13:27once you take oaths,
13:29numbers, quite a few automatically come to you.
13:32You know, that's old school politics.
13:33You have to stake claim, numbers will come.
13:35But Suman S. Raman, dramatic developments.
13:38You had none else,
13:39but one of the allies of the DMK exposed the DMK
13:42and say the DMK was pressurizing us also
13:45to support AIDNK.
13:48Preeti, this was an open secret.
13:50I mean, this was not a top secret move.
13:53Everybody knew about it for the last two days.
13:55That's point number one.
13:57Point number two,
13:58I do not know if Mr. Baby is aware
14:01that his state unit secretary
14:03actually said that they have not left the DMK alliance.
14:06They say that they are with the DMK
14:08on all issues of public interest.
14:11So how does this work?
14:13I mean, it is a most bizarre situation
14:15that I have come across
14:16where a party says they are leaving.
14:20They ostensibly have left the DMK alliance,
14:22but they say that,
14:24no, no, we are,
14:24our journey with the DMK shall continue.
14:27That is exactly the words that he has used.
14:29And now he says,
14:30we are only supporting this government
14:32from the outside.
14:33This is what Mr. Stalin wanted to be done.
14:37He has also said that the TBK form a government.
14:39So I'm completely clueless
14:43as to what this approach actually means.
14:46These parties,
14:47please ask Akshita or any of your team
14:52to ask these parties,
14:53have you left the DMK alliance?
14:56Mr. Shanmugam and Mr. Veerabandian,
14:58the CPI and CPM state secretaries,
15:01were categorical about it.
15:03We continue to our journey with the DMK.
15:07This is the exact statement.
15:08So now which alliance are they part of?
15:13And they were very clear.
15:14They said Mr. Stalin wanted this government to be formed.
15:18I don't know how this works pretty,
15:21but I think this is basically the DMK
15:25having asked its allies to prop up this government
15:28as long as they deem it necessary.
15:31And right now it looks awkward for the DMK
15:33because they don't have the numbers
15:34to stake any kind of claim.
15:36And supporting the AIA-DMK would look even worse.
15:40So I think that they decided that,
15:42you know, let's prop up the TVK for some time
15:44and see what happens.
15:45So that is really what this decision is all about.
15:49And Vijay may be sworn in tomorrow.
15:51Well, right now the word coming in from…
15:52Literally, he holds office at the pleasure of Mr. Stalin.
15:55Right now the word coming in from the left is…
15:59Right, right, right.
16:00But right now the word coming in Mr. Sumansi Raman
16:02is at least from the left
16:03that the DMK wanted to go all in with the AIA-DMK.
16:08Optics-wise it doesn't look,
16:09make the DMK look good.
16:11But Mr. Sumansi Raman,
16:12I'm going to go back to the visuals
16:13that are coming in from Lok Bhavan.
16:15Let's go full frame with that.
16:17A sense, you know, of excitement,
16:20all the anxiety,
16:21the suspended animation ends
16:23and now finally things are moving
16:25and now they are moving quick.
16:26Either they don't move,
16:27when they start moving,
16:28they are moving quick.
16:30Vijay on his letter has at least 118
16:33and it seems more will also be joining in.
16:37That IUML that wanted to stick with the DMK
16:39also seemingly now in the kitty of TVK Vijay.
16:50IUML will be persuaded
16:52because I think if the DMK is sending
16:54CPI, CPM and VCK,
16:57why single out IUML?
16:59Because IUML very categorically said
17:00they will not support day before yesterday.
17:02So if they might have gone back
17:04to Mr. Stalin and said,
17:06look, you are allowing all the others to go,
17:08why can't we also go with them?
17:10So that could be,
17:11but they've clarified,
17:12the CPI, CPM have categorically said
17:14this is outside support
17:15and it is not,
17:16they will not be part of the government.
17:17And they've also said
17:18they're not forming an alliance
17:19with the TVK.
17:22So this will be a TVK government only.
17:25This is not going to be
17:26a coalition government.
17:27In the next two or three days,
17:28whether we want to be a part
17:29of the governance
17:30or we want to support it from outside.
17:32I want to bring in,
17:33I believe we have Mr. Manikam Tagore
17:34back with us.
17:35I want to bring him back.
17:36Manikam Tagore,
17:38the question that I want to ask you,
17:39usually the Congress drags its feet.
17:42There was some kind of urgency
17:44within the Congress
17:45to make sure that this is settled,
17:47that your alliance with the TVK
17:50actually reaches a fruition
17:51which is government formation.
17:53What made Mr. Malik Arjun Kharge
17:55pick up the phone and call
17:57the chief of VCK
17:58and request him
17:59to do the politically ethical thing
18:02if there is anything called
18:03being politically ethical?
18:05No, we had been,
18:07we had,
18:07after Mr. Vijay spoke to
18:11Karge Saab and Rahul Gandhiji
18:13and when he asked for the support
18:14to form,
18:16the formation of government,
18:17our leadership also,
18:18Karge Saab has been
18:19in line with all other parties also
18:22from the national level also.
18:24They had been speaking to the leaders
18:25and we are requesting that
18:27we should put a secular government
18:28in Tamil Nadu
18:29because we should not allow
18:30BJP,
18:31which is reduced to only one MLA,
18:34should not get into the,
18:35some government
18:35and start ruling the state.
18:37Therefore only,
18:38we had been putting effort
18:39for a secular government
18:40and we are able to reach
18:42to that level of,
18:43now it is,
18:43we are short of one MLA
18:45and we hope that
18:46that will also be,
18:48come in the day,
18:49in the course of the day
18:50as we are,
18:51our partners,
18:52three partners are also,
18:53we have been approaching to them,
18:55talking to them democratically
18:56and we have been saying
18:57that the need for a secular government
18:59in Tamil Nadu
18:59is important for us.
19:05All right,
19:06you know,
19:06I want to ask you one quick question,
19:07Mr. Tagore,
19:07before I let you go.
19:08You don't just have
19:09a razor thin majority,
19:11you have the exact number.
19:13What makes you think
19:14that numbers as slim as this,
19:16usually a Tamil Nadu
19:18assembly should have
19:19upwards of 25,
19:20if not upwards of 230.
19:22What makes you think
19:23your government
19:24is going to survive, sir?
19:27Yes, it will
19:28because people have voted
19:30for Mr. Vijay
19:31and for TVK
19:32for change and hope election.
19:34You are in the ground,
19:35you will see that
19:36how much support
19:37for Mr. Vijay
19:38and the TVK
19:39is there in the ground.
19:40There is a lot of hope
19:41in every Tamil,
19:43voters' mind
19:44that something
19:45is going to change
19:45and therefore
19:46it's a changed election.
19:47Therefore,
19:48we hope that
19:48all those promises,
19:50whatever promises
19:52we are able to,
19:53what we have given it,
19:55we will be able
19:56to fulfill it
19:56with the government
19:57with Mr. Vijay
19:58as the Chief Minister
20:00of Tamil Nadu.
20:05Mr. Tagore,
20:06thank you for taking
20:06the time out
20:07and joining us.
20:08You're rather calm today.
20:09You were very agitated yesterday
20:11but I think that calm
20:12comes in after the storm
20:13where you finally
20:15have the numbers
20:16and let's get you viewers now.
20:17The inside visuals
20:19of Lok Bhavan,
20:20you have the governor,
20:22Mr. Arlaker,
20:23sitting alongside Vijay
20:25and this is Vijay
20:26now staking claim.
20:28All eyes on only one thing
20:30which will be the date
20:32that will be allotted
20:33and then Vijay
20:34can actually take oath.
20:36He will have to prove
20:37his majority.
20:38That number might be on paper.
20:39It might now finally satisfy
20:42the governor of Tamil Nadu
20:44but ultimately
20:45the real test
20:46where the constitution
20:47is concerned
20:48will be laid
20:49on the floor
20:50of the assembly
20:50where Vijay
20:51will have to prove
20:52the numbers.
20:52But that's a picture
20:54that is coming in
20:55from inside the Lok Bhavan.
20:57You have actor Vijay
20:59alongside the governor
21:00of Tamil Nadu
21:02and he would be exiting
21:05any time now.
21:07I believe 11 a.m.
21:09has been decided
21:10as the swearing-in time.
21:12You're going to try
21:12and get the date.
21:13I think it's tomorrow.
21:14I think 11 a.m.,
21:16if our producers can tell us,
21:17it's 11 a.m. tomorrow
21:19where the swearing-in
21:21has been finalized.
21:22Can we get that confirmation, please?
21:25The latest news break
21:26that is coming in right now
21:29is 11 a.m.
21:30Makshita,
21:3111 a.m.
21:33is the date tomorrow.
21:35Is it Saturday 11 a.m.
21:37that Vijay will be swearing in
21:39as the chief minister
21:41of Tamil Nadu?
21:46That's right,
21:47Preeti,
21:47big, big breaking news
21:48and you're hearing it
21:49first on India today
21:50that it's confirmed
21:51that 11 a.m.
21:53is the oath-taking
21:54for Vijay
21:55as chief minister.
21:56History right now
21:57in the making
21:58in Tamil Nadu.
21:59Tomorrow is Vijay's date
22:01with history.
22:02He's going to be sworn in
22:03as the chief minister.
22:04So, Preeti,
22:05you've been to the
22:06Nehru Indoor Stadium.
22:07You've seen the grand
22:07preparations.
22:08His plans for a grand
22:09oath-taking ceremony
22:11will be realized tomorrow.
22:13All along,
22:14they had planned for it
22:14to be on Saturday.
22:16Well, I'm sure
22:16if the governor
22:17would give his nod,
22:18but he has,
22:19it seems now.
22:20So, tomorrow,
22:2011 a.m.
22:21at the Nehru Indoor Stadium
22:23is where the
22:23swearing and ceremony
22:24will take place.
22:25We are hearing
22:26it will only be Vijay
22:27at this point
22:28who will be sworn in
22:29as the chief minister.
22:30Yes, Preeti?
22:32Right.
22:34But, Akshita,
22:35the fact is
22:36and this is where
22:37the quandary comes in,
22:38viewers.
22:3911 a.m.,
22:40Vijay will be swearing in
22:42as the chief minister
22:43of Tamil Nadu.
22:44But, Akshita,
22:45tomorrow,
22:4511 a.m.,
22:47Shuvendu Adhikari
22:48is also swearing in
22:49as the chief minister
22:51of West Bengal.
22:53That's the big news
22:54and you'll have
22:55two very competing visuals
22:56that will be coming
22:57in Akshita.
22:58One being beamed out
22:59from West Bengal
23:00and the other one
23:01that will be beamed out
23:03from Chennai,
23:05the Nehru Stadium,
23:06Tamil Nadu
23:06and the other one
23:07from the brigade grounds
23:08in Kolkata,
23:09West Bengal.
23:10And the time
23:11is exactly the same,
23:1211 a.m.
23:14So,
23:15interesting,
23:16ironical,
23:17competing optics.
23:18Sometimes you don't get
23:19a date
23:20and when you get
23:20a date,
23:21they all come together.
23:26Very true.
23:27And, Preeti,
23:28I can assure our viewers
23:28I know that they'll be
23:29switching back and forth
23:30so we will ensure
23:31that we do our best
23:32in covering both states,
23:34ensure parallel coverage
23:35at all times.
23:36Yes,
23:36the timings are clashing.
23:38You will have
23:38Vijay taking
23:39old scripting history,
23:41both equally historic,
23:42Preeti,
23:42both equally significant
23:44because as much as
23:45I constantly keep using
23:46the word historic
23:47here in Chennai,
23:48it's equally important
23:49and pertinent
23:50to use it
23:51in Bengal,
23:52in Kolkata
23:52as well.
23:53You have the BG
23:54first time
23:55forming a government
23:56and you'll have
23:56Shuweintu Adhikari
23:57taking oath
23:58as chief minister
23:59and here,
23:59no Draveti and parties,
24:01no DMK,
24:01no AI,
24:02DMK,
24:02TV,
24:03Vijay,
24:04a superstar turned,
24:05super CM,
24:06if you will,
24:06taking oath.
24:07So interesting optics
24:09that you'll see
24:09on both ends,
24:10you know,
24:10I'm just trying
24:10to figure out
24:11if there's any parallel
24:12between Shuweintu Adhikari
24:13and Vijay.
24:14I think they're
24:15polar opposites
24:15except for the fact
24:16that both are
24:17giant slayers,
24:17Preeti.
24:21Well,
24:22both are giant slayers,
24:23I think that is
24:24the only commonality
24:26that one can pick
24:27from the two.
24:27Let's put that picture
24:29out in the video
24:29of Vijay.
24:30Well,
24:30at least Vijay
24:32started dressing
24:32like a politician
24:33now in a white shirt.
24:34You see him
24:35take that silk shawl
24:37and wrap it around
24:39the governor,
24:40Mr. Arlekar.
24:41He has had,
24:42the beginning
24:43has been a bit rocky
24:45with the governor
24:46and is this how Vijay
24:48is going to set
24:48the template
24:49because he will need
24:50to be working
24:51very closely
24:52with the same man
24:53that he right now
24:54is putting the shawl
24:56around his shoulders.
24:57So,
24:58this is also
25:00a new relationship
25:02right now.
25:02It began
25:03on not
25:04such smooth,
25:06on a smooth road
25:07if I might say.
25:08It was rocky
25:09to begin with
25:10and now
25:10it will entirely
25:11depend on
25:12these two people
25:13on your television
25:13screen
25:14on how
25:15they take
25:15their relationship
25:16forward.
25:17Will they keep
25:17butting heads
25:18like it has been
25:19in the last couple
25:20of days
25:21or will it be
25:21smooth functioning
25:22between the governor
25:23and the chief minister?
25:25If you go by
25:26the last example
25:27where it had
25:28the governor,
25:29Mr. Ravi,
25:30and the chief minister,
25:31Mr. Stalin,
25:32always at loggerheads.
25:33Are we going to be
25:34expecting a similar
25:35storm brewing?
25:36Well,
25:36we don't know.
25:37We hope not.
25:38We hope everything
25:39is smooth,
25:40it's peaceful
25:40but that is
25:42Vijay,
25:43now
25:44designate
25:45chief minister
25:46of the state
25:47of Tamil Nadu.
25:4811 a.m.
25:50tomorrow
25:50and I'm joined
25:51by our South Indian
25:52bureau chief
25:52Naga Arjandwarkanath
25:54joining me.
25:55Naga,
25:57the date is out,
25:58the time is out,
25:59it's 11 a.m.
26:00It's happening
26:01on a Saturday.
26:02Give us details,
26:03Naga.
26:03Was the date
26:04and time
26:04picked by Vijay
26:05and approved
26:06by the governor
26:07because one really
26:08doubts if,
26:09you know,
26:09there would have
26:10been two competing
26:11images,
26:12two competing
26:12swearing-ins
26:13exactly on the
26:14same day
26:15and also
26:16exactly at the
26:17same time.
26:18Well,
26:19Vijay wanted
26:19that time itself.
26:20He wanted
26:2111 o'clock
26:21on May 9th
26:22and that's the
26:23time that he
26:24chose.
26:24In fact,
26:25to get this
26:25confirmation was
26:26quite difficult.
26:26Then I figured
26:27out there was
26:27one friend in
26:28the whole frame
26:29of Vijay
26:29in the Raj Bhavan
26:30so I called him
26:31immediately and
26:31then I got a
26:32confirmation that
26:33tomorrow 11 a.m.
26:34is when Vijay
26:35will be taking
26:36oath as the
26:36Chief Minister.
26:37We are yet to
26:37get information
26:38as to would he
26:39be doing it
26:40alone or would
26:41there be a
26:41series of
26:42cabinet members
26:43also taking
26:43oath.
26:44But what we
26:46are picking up
26:46right now is
26:47that the
26:47governor also has
26:48to go back to
26:49Kerala.
26:49Remember,
26:50there's another
26:50state which has
26:51gone to polls
26:51so there would
26:52be swearing in
26:52there also.
26:53He has to be
26:53available there also.
26:54He also agreed
26:55that as soon as
26:56possible it's okay
26:57with him.
26:58And he's
26:58convinced with
26:59the numbers at
27:00this point of
27:00time.
27:00So VCK2 left
27:02together four and
27:03Congress together
27:04five have given
27:05the letter of
27:06support to Vijay
27:06and he submitted
27:07that in the
27:08dedicated format
27:09that the governor
27:09wanted and
27:10joining Vijay was
27:11Basi Anand,
27:12Venkatramana the
27:13treasurer and
27:14also Adav Arjun and
27:15Arun Raj and
27:16senior leader
27:17Sengotin.
27:18He will be the
27:18pro-term speaker
27:19also the nine-time
27:19MLA from
27:20Gupichetti
27:21Palyam in the
27:22western Congo
27:23belt region.
27:24So all of them
27:25met the
27:26governor in
27:28fact and
27:28also the
27:28governor keenly
27:29looked at the
27:30format of the
27:31letters and the
27:32documentation that
27:32was given by
27:33TVK and the
27:34leaders and
27:35finally both
27:36Vijay and the
27:37governor agreed
27:37upon tomorrow
27:3811 a.m.
27:39would be the
27:40swearing-in of
27:41Vijay as the
27:41chief minister.
27:42We are also
27:43picking up that
27:43Malikarjun
27:44Karge and Rahul
27:45Gandhi most
27:45likely will land
27:47by 10.30 tomorrow
27:47and directly go to
27:48the swearing-in
27:49ceremony to
27:50congratulate Vijay on
27:51this big big historic
27:52win of his.
27:56All right, Naga, stay
27:58with me.
27:58I'm joined right now by
27:59S.
27:59Murali Dharan,
28:00political analyst.
28:01Thank you, sir.
28:02Appreciate your
28:03patience.
28:03Lots of breaking
28:04news that's coming
28:05in.
28:05Let's pull out that
28:06picture of Vijay
28:07meeting the governor
28:08of the third time
28:09now, third time
28:11lucky.
28:11And it seems
28:13things have reached
28:14fruition.
28:15We don't have
28:16Mr. Murali Dharan.
28:18We'll cut across
28:19to him in just a
28:20short while.
28:21Let's go now
28:22immediately to
28:23Mr. Sumansi Raman.
28:24We have Mr. Sumansi
28:25Raman.
28:25Mr. Sumansi Raman,
28:27you know, that
28:28image is going to,
28:30you know, to look
28:31at that image.
28:31Third time you have
28:33TVK chief Vijay
28:35meeting the governor.
28:37This time clearly
28:38on pleasant terms
28:39he's got the go
28:40ahead.
28:41Tomorrow 11 a.m.
28:42is going to be the
28:43oath-taking ceremony.
28:45How do you see
28:45things pan out?
28:46The last time we
28:48saw the relationship
28:49between the incumbent
28:50chief minister then
28:51Mr. Stalin and the
28:52governor was far
28:53from cordial.
28:54It began on a
28:55rocky note with
28:56Vijay and Mr.
28:57R. Lekar, the
28:58governor of Tamil
28:59Ladu.
29:00It depends how
29:01Vijay decides to
29:02frame it and
29:03shape it ahead.
29:04Yeah.
29:05First of all, I
29:06think we should be
29:08relieved that this
29:09time he took a
29:09bouquet and the
29:10shawl.
29:11Last time it
29:12came in for a
29:12lot of talk that,
29:15you know, he
29:16didn't, you know,
29:17it is customary
29:17when you go, you
29:18greet them with a
29:19bouquet and you
29:20greet them with a
29:20shawl.
29:20Last time it was
29:21not there.
29:22So that was
29:22mentioned.
29:23So this time I
29:24think everything is
29:24hunky-dory.
29:25So the governor
29:26gets a bouquet and
29:27he gets a shawl.
29:28The point really is
29:29that the governors
29:31across states have
29:32been used primarily
29:34to destabilize
29:35opposition state
29:36governments.
29:36Now, Vijay at this
29:38point of time is
29:39not in the good
29:40books of the BJP
29:41and the NDA
29:41because he has
29:42not chosen to
29:43take support from
29:45the NDA
29:45constituents.
29:46So he has
29:47chosen worse, he
29:48has chosen to take
29:49the support from
29:50the Congress
29:50Party.
29:51So that straight
29:52away puts him in
29:53the crosshairs of
29:54the central
29:54government.
29:55And certainly the
29:56governor is going
29:57to be used by
29:59going by the
30:00previous track record,
30:01whether it's in
30:01Kerala, whether it's
30:02in Bengal, whether it's
30:03in Jarkhand, whether
30:04it is in Tamil Nadu
30:05with Mr. Ravi, I
30:06think that the
30:07governors are going
30:08to be used to give
30:09pinpricks to the
30:10existing government.
30:12But having said
30:12that, tomorrow is
30:14Vijay's day.
30:16One certainly
30:16wishes him all the
30:17very best because
30:19Tamil Nadu needs
30:20continued good
30:22governance which has
30:23taken us to the
30:23top in almost all
30:25socio-economic
30:25indices in the state
30:26and one hopes that
30:27we get continued good
30:29governance from
30:30whichever government
30:31and now it's going
30:32to be a TVK
30:32government.
30:33Again, we don't
30:34know.
30:34I presume the
30:35Congress will be
30:36part of the
30:36government, but we
30:37don't think any of
30:38the other parties
30:39that are supporting
30:41are going to be
30:42part of the
30:43government at this
30:43point of time.
30:45The other real
30:46issue is what
30:48will be the final
30:49numbers that they
30:49will rustle up.
30:50The VCK could
30:52very well get one
30:53cabinet berth.
30:55The VCK has
30:56not yet said
30:57officially that
30:59they are going
31:00to be part of
31:01this government.
31:02So we'll have to
31:02wait and see.
31:03The communists
31:04have clearly ruled
31:05out.
31:05In fact, both the
31:06CPI and the
31:07CPM state
31:08secretaries addressed
31:09a press conference
31:10where they said we
31:10will not be part of
31:11the government.
31:12We are only
31:12extending outside
31:14support.
31:14So we'll have to
31:15see whether the
31:16VCK stance on that
31:17is different,
31:18especially because
31:19their leader who
31:20was originally
31:21supposed to contest
31:21the election withdrew
31:23and gave the ticket
31:24to somebody else.
31:25So again, does he
31:26want to have one of
31:27his MLAs in the
31:28government or not?
31:29That's really the
31:29key part.
31:32Okay.
31:33All right, Mr.
31:34Simansi Raman, stay
31:35on with me.
31:35I want to cut across
31:36back to the
31:36Lokbhavan.
31:37It's been a long,
31:38long while already.
31:39The last time as
31:40well.
31:40And I want to bring
31:41in Pramodh, my
31:41colleague who's tracking
31:43all the developments
31:43right here in
31:44Tamil Nadu.
31:45Pramodh, first up,
31:46congratulations.
31:47You finally have a
31:48designate chief
31:49minister in Vijay.
31:51All set to take
31:52oath 11 a.m.
31:54tomorrow.
31:54Competing visuals will
31:55be coming in from the
31:56state of West
31:57Bengal as well.
31:58But I guess that
32:00could be the irony.
32:00But it is also
32:02somewhere down the
32:03line, the similarity
32:04in all of this and
32:05poetic justice.
32:06If history is going
32:07to be made in two
32:08states, then it is
32:09practically made in
32:10the same election at
32:11the same time at the
32:13same hour, which is
32:1411 a.m.
32:20Actually, yes,
32:21Preeti, well, we've
32:22been told that the
32:22overtaking ceremony can
32:23occur tomorrow by
32:2411 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.
32:25And amidst this, we've
32:27been told that the
32:28Vijay has reached the
32:29CPM office here
32:29because he wanted to
32:30thank them for, you
32:32know, extending their
32:33support.
32:33So now, VCK, CPI,
32:35CPI, CPI, and other
32:37reasons.
32:37Over to you, Anagar.
32:38Letting him be
32:40from the government.
32:42Well, Preeti, you're
32:43looking at Vijay on
32:44your screens.
32:44He's joined by the
32:45CPI leaders over
32:47there.
32:48They are giving him
32:49a grand welcome.
32:50He has come here to
32:51the left party's
32:52office.
32:53You know, the crowd
32:54has just rolled into
32:55cheers for Vijay.
32:56They have also
32:57felicitated him with
32:58the shawl and have
32:59also presented him a
33:00bouquet.
33:01So that's Vijay over
33:02there extending his
33:04gratitude to the
33:05communist members for
33:06extend, you know, for
33:07extending their support
33:08to him.
33:09He's also flanked by
33:10Adav Arjuna and the
33:12Mailapur's MLA, Mr.
33:13Venkat Raman and
33:14Busi Anand.
33:15The men that you see
33:16who are flanked by
33:17Vijay are going to be
33:18the men who will be
33:20leading Tamil Nadu
33:20along with Vijay.
33:22That's Vijay there making
33:23his way inside the
33:24communist party's office
33:26and he is also
33:27facilitating the
33:29communist party members.
33:31That's his way of
33:32expressing gratitude to
33:33the left party members
33:34because remember, you
33:35know, in this election
33:36Spreethi, it's the
33:37left party and the
33:38VCK who are the
33:40king makers.
33:41We all thought it's
33:42going to be Vijay that
33:43will be king maker but
33:44now, you know, there
33:46is going to google you
33:46this election.
33:47The king maker of this
33:49election are the left
33:50parties and Tirumabalwan.
33:51Who do you know?
33:53We all thought it's
33:55going to be Vijay that
33:56is making his way
33:58into the party's
33:59office.
34:00It's upstairs making
34:01his way inside.
34:03He also went to
34:04CPI's office to
34:06extend his thank you
34:07to CPI leaders.
34:09Now he's at the
34:09CPM's office.
34:11There's also
34:11Shanmugam, a very
34:12senior leader in the
34:13Marxist Communist Party
34:15making his way
34:15upstairs.
34:16He's going to be
34:17there extending his
34:20gratitude.
34:20Let's also be very
34:21very clear.
34:21The Communist Party
34:23also said to us that
34:24we're not going to be
34:25subordinate to Vijay.
34:26We're only extending an
34:28external support to him
34:29and there ends the
34:30matter.
34:31They will function,
34:32however, as a
34:33constructive opposition
34:34party is what they say.
34:36It's a big development
34:38that's coming in.
34:39Vijay here at the
34:40Communist Party's office
34:41to extend his gratitude
34:43to the left party's
34:44members who will
34:45continue to also have a
34:46good relationship with
34:47Stalin.
34:48Remember, just because
34:49they're extending their
34:50support, Preeti, to
34:51Vijay doesn't mean that
34:52they've burned all those
34:53bridges with the DMK.
34:54It's very important for
34:56the Communist Party to
34:57still maintain good
34:58relationship with DMK in
35:00order to be relevant, to
35:02be politically relevant in
35:03Tamil Nadu in the future.
35:05And they're very clear
35:05about that.
35:07So, therefore, they have
35:08come here to welcome
35:10Vijay and Vijay.
35:11They're extending his
35:11gratitude, his thanks to
35:13the left party leaders.
35:14And it's only because of
35:15them why Vijay will be
35:17taking oaths as the next
35:18chief minister of Tamil
35:19Nadu at 11 a.m.
35:21It's going to be a
35:22historic day in Tamil
35:23Nadu and will be talked
35:25about for many, many
35:26decades to come.
35:30Well, Ananda, those
35:32visuals right now coming
35:33in, one of the main
35:35reasons, Ananda, is also
35:36that the optics need to
35:38come out because VCK was
35:40quite upset that Vijay
35:41actually asked for support
35:43over WhatsApp, no leader
35:45meeting VCK, no official
35:47request coming in, but a
35:49request for support through
35:52WhatsApp.
35:53So, all of these visuals
35:54that are coming in augur
35:55well for the image of
35:57Vijay.
35:57He is someone, even
35:58though it's a small stake
36:00that the CPI and the CPI-M
36:02have, that he is taking
36:03his allies along.
36:09Well, that is true.
36:10In fact, Tirumavallavan has
36:12also extended his support
36:14to Vijay, which actually
36:15gave him the power to
36:16take, you know, to even
36:18meet the governor in the
36:19first place with those
36:20signatures.
36:21Tirumavallavan also held a
36:23meeting with his MLAs this
36:24evening where it was
36:25discussed very elaborately
36:26about the merits and
36:27demerits of going ahead
36:29with this move.
36:30In fact, there is also
36:32what we are learning is
36:33that VCK has, you know,
36:35has officially conveyed
36:36it to TVK that they will
36:38be going ahead and
36:40supporting Vijay on the
36:41floor of the House.
36:42It's very important to
36:43also note that it's not
36:45quite clear what VCK's
36:46demands are.
36:47When it comes to left
36:48parties, we know that
36:49their support is
36:50unconditional and they're
36:51not going to be there
36:52in the cabinet.
36:53But what does Tirumavallavan
36:54really want?
36:55Remember, Tirumavallavan had
36:57also asked Stalin for power
36:58when he was an ally with
37:00the DMK, but now he is
37:01with Vijay and it's quite
37:03likely, Priti, that
37:04Tirumavallavan will also
37:06ask for power.
37:07It's not going to be a
37:08selfless kind of an
37:09unconditional alliance
37:10with the VCK.
37:11It's quite likely that
37:12they might ask for power.
37:14But what the contours of
37:16this agreement are, we'll
37:17really know after we get
37:18access to that official
37:19letter by Tirumavallavan.
37:21It is going to be a
37:22historic day.
37:23What we are witnessing
37:25right now is the
37:26duopoly coming to an end.
37:28For so long, it has been
37:29the AIA, DMK and the DMK.
37:31The Dravidian party is
37:33taking charge in Tamil Nadu.
37:34And what we are witnessing,
37:35there comes a third
37:36entrant to break this
37:38duopoly, which honestly
37:40nobody saw happening in
37:42Tamil Nadu.
37:43And therefore, this day
37:44will be talked about for
37:45ages and for eons and
37:47will go down in the
37:48annals of the history as
37:50the time that has changed
37:51the political landscape of
37:53Tamil Nadu.
37:54As we speak, Vijay is
37:55still meeting with the
37:56left party leaders.
37:57He is holding a meeting
37:59with the Communist Party
38:01members, expressing his
38:02gratitude to them for
38:04their support on the
38:05floor of the House.
38:06When it comes to left
38:07parties, they are not
38:08going to be part of the
38:09cabinet.
38:09They are not going to be
38:10there in the ministry.
38:11It's only external support.
38:13And they also made it very,
38:14very clear, when it comes
38:15to issues, it's going to be
38:16on case-by-case basis.
38:18They will continue to
38:19support as an opposition
38:21party.
38:21But what's the VC case game?
38:23Are they going to be in
38:24the government or are they
38:25going to be sitting in the
38:26opposition, just like how
38:28the left has decided?
38:29We're still yet to get
38:30that detail verified yet.
38:32But this has certainly
38:34given Vijay the power to
38:36take oath as the chief
38:37minister tomorrow at 11
38:39a.m.
38:39This has been his long,
38:41long-term ambition.
38:42Even in his movies, if you
38:43do take a glance at them,
38:45they've always been
38:46anti-establishment, the kind
38:48of hero who comes and
38:49takes on the existing
38:50establishment and saves the
38:52people against the corrupt.
38:53And that's exactly what he
38:54has done in his real life.
38:56Going to be taking oath as
38:58the next chief minister of
38:59Tamil Nadu.
39:00Possibly, you know,
39:01possibly the, you know,
39:02possibly the youngest,
39:03we believe.
39:04He's 51 years old, 51,
39:0552 years old.
39:06He's quite likely to be the
39:08youngest chief minister in
39:10Tamil Nadu taking oath
39:11tomorrow.
39:12It's going to be certainly
39:12a historic day.
39:18Well, you know, Anagar, when
39:20history turns the page, many
39:22destinies come together and
39:24many hearts break.
39:25So at one end, one can see
39:27TVK supporters rejoicing,
39:29seeing, you know, what has
39:31been the gravitational pull
39:33and tug of Dravidian politics
39:35in the landscape of Tamil Nadu
39:37actually come to an end.
39:39Then you'll have those who have
39:42pledged themselves to the cause
39:44of the Dravidian politics.
39:45You can actually possibly see
39:47there and feel their hearts
39:49actually break.
39:50So, but that's the nature of
39:52politics and that's the nature
39:54of time.
39:55One era gives way to the other.
39:57And this time around, this is
39:59the era of the disruptor.
40:01A disruptor and also one of the
40:04biggest superstars that Tamil
40:06Nadu would have ever seen.
40:08I want to cut across right now
40:09to my colleague, Pramod.
40:10Pramod, take us through all
40:12the optics and the visuals that
40:14are taking place right now.
40:15You have Vijay at the office
40:17of the CPI, CPIM, thanking
40:20them for their support in all
40:22probabilities.
40:22We'll see a repeat of these
40:24visuals with the VCK as well.
40:26And then you have Pramod that
40:28Vijay takes oath at 11 a.m.
40:31tomorrow at the Nehru Stadium,
40:34which is already all prepared,
40:36has been prepared for the last
40:38couple of days.
40:42Actually, it's a pretty.
40:44In fact, like, you know, for
40:45fourth, we had the results and
40:46apparently on six onwards, the
40:48work actually began over there
40:49for Vijay to become the chief
40:51minister.
40:51But so many kind of hurdles
40:52occurred in between, especially
40:54with the governor claiming that
40:55Vijay needs to bring the number
40:57118.
40:58Vijay had 108 minutes on his
41:00pocket.
41:00But, you know, he had to resign
41:01from one of the seats, could be
41:03Trichy East, which means that
41:04107.
41:05Then Congress came board, it
41:06turned to 112.
41:07But still, there were six remaining.
41:09And this is where the huge
41:10developer in the state, the
41:11impossible scenario, which has
41:13now been confirmed by the
41:15CPIM head that, you know, talks
41:16about the Dravidian parties coming
41:18together.
41:18That also started causing a lot of
41:20issue over there.
41:21Finally, DVK decided that what if
41:23they go ahead and do a mass
41:24resignation?
41:25That also sources claim that that
41:26was also one of their kind of
41:28options kept.
41:28And finally, now the CPM, CPI and
41:31VCK, who have been like
41:33contemplating on this matter for
41:34more than 72 hours, have decided
41:35to go ahead and support Vijay.
41:37And not just that, certain parties
41:39of them have decided to give them
41:40external support.
41:42And they have also, like, you know,
41:43we've been told that especially the
41:44left parties want Vijay's kind of,
41:47you know, what his stance in
41:48particular to make his stance clear
41:50when it comes to national issues
41:51that includes delimitation, need and
41:53such.
41:54So all this will definitely happen in
41:55the future because definitely this
41:57will all will be discussed.
41:57Two-language policy will be
41:58discussed as well.
41:59And as it comes, Vijay will have to
42:01make its stance clear.
42:02But right now, CPM, CPI and VCK
42:04very clearly say that they want a
42:06stable government in the state of
42:08Tamil Nadu for the people's sake.
42:09And for that, Vijay being the
42:11majority, they have decided to do
42:12so.
42:13Would they have done with AIDMK?
42:14That's a different question.
42:15But for Vijay, CPM, CPI and the
42:18VCK claim that this is a kind of
42:20like decision that needs to be done
42:21to respect the mandate of the
42:23people.
42:23And they have done so, Preeti.
42:25We've also been told that soon
42:26IUML can also join TVK's alliance
42:30very soon.
42:30So that will also add more strength
42:32to Vijay's alliance, Preeti.
42:37Well, you know, that's the beauty
42:39of politics.
42:39Once you stake claim, and that's
42:41old-school political theory, you
42:43stake claim, the numbers will come
42:45ultimately.
42:45And it's seemingly happening.
42:47It took a while for Vijay to do so,
42:49to get that letter.
42:50And all of that, Pramod, and I'll go
42:52to Anagar in just a bit while we
42:53continue to stream visuals coming in
42:55from the left headquarters in
42:56Chennai, Tamil Nadu, where Vijay is
42:59thanking the left leaders for their
43:01support.
43:01But, Pramod, to bring you in, it did
43:03come in after a fair amount of, you
43:08know, I wouldn't say aggression, but
43:12a fair amount of give and take where
43:14the governor was concerned.
43:16A lot of things were questioned.
43:17Some people said that this was
43:18constitutional discretion that the
43:21governor is allowed.
43:22Some were actually questioning the
43:24constitutional morality of the
43:25governor.
43:26But, Pramod, you know yourself that
43:28Tamil Nadu and its chief minister, at
43:30least of late, has had a very rocky
43:33relationship where the office of
43:35chief minister and the office of the
43:36governor is concerned.
43:38Now it is up to the two, Mr.
43:40Arlaker and up to Vijay to actually
43:43decide how they're going to frame
43:44their relationship.
43:46A lot will depend on how Vijay
43:48balances, you know, his work, his
43:52image, picks his battles.
43:54All of that will depend on how Vijay takes
43:57this relationship forward, not just with
43:59the governor, Pramod, with the center as
44:02well, on how he positions himself with the
44:05center.
44:05You had M.K.
44:06Stalin, who was always in the crosshairs of
44:08the center and vice versa.
44:10Vijay, will he emulate that or will he try to
44:14walk the balancing path in all of this and
44:17steer away from any direct confrontation,
44:20steer away from framing himself in a, you know,
44:23a Goliath versus David battle, at least,
44:26you know, where politics is concerned,
44:28considering he's a superstar in his own
44:30right.
44:31But now that tag of the stardom has been
44:34shed.
44:35He is now a politician and he'll be gauged,
44:38judged, reviewed on the basis of his
44:41politics.
44:45Well, Priti, one thing is very certain,
44:47no matter what decision Vijay takes, his
44:48fans are definitely going to accept whatever
44:50he does because they definitely are into this
44:52magic spell of Vijay.
44:54But the important aspect you very clearly
44:55stated is that definitely, you know,
44:56things are not going to be that smooth for
44:58Vijay.
44:58It's definitely going to be rocky because
45:00Congress is still with Vijay.
45:02So that is going to cause a lot of issues.
45:04But we can actually have also have another
45:06scenario.
45:07What if Congress wants to take a soft stance
45:09when it comes to Tamil Nadu?
45:10Because they are aiming for 2029 and they consider
45:14this as a very big boast because they know
45:16Vijay as an upper hand when it comes to Tamil Nadu
45:18and Kerala in the fan bases and already Vijay has
45:21proved himself in Tamil Nadu in a huge number with
45:24the number of votes he has gone.
45:25And imagine if he can do across the state, you know,
45:27the southern states where there is a considerable
45:29amount of Tamil population, be it Tamil Nadu, Kerala,
45:32Karnataka, even Telangana and Andhra, that's going to be
45:34definitely favoring them.
45:36So Vijay taking decisions and that actually, you know,
45:38even to maintain a relationship with the governor,
45:42his stance will be strong, harsh or not, that's going to
45:45be definitely gauged in.
45:46And six months is the time period.
45:49DMK has given to Vijay for this time to see how
45:51government is going to act or continue or act, Preeti.
45:59You know, Pramodhan, I just want to tell our viewers
46:01because still now there has been rose-tinted glasses
46:04that his fans have been looking, you know, at him
46:08through, rose-tinted glasses that come with a heavy
46:11dose of stardom.
46:12And why not?
46:13Because he's promised all the trappings of his character,
46:17the underdog up against the system, taking on the might
46:20of the corruptor in his films.
46:22It will all come down to how Vijay translates his aura,
46:29his persona in the films on the silver screen where it comes
46:33down to politics and on the streets of Tamil Nadu.
46:36He will actually also now be remembered for that.
46:40At one end, while there is an era ending, there is a chapter
46:44which is turning in Tamil Nadu politics, there is a chapter
46:49which is also a...
46:50Okay, totally MLS support.
46:52Totally MLS support.
46:53Totally MLS support.
46:53Notepad.
46:55Notepad.
46:56Okay, sir.
46:57That was Senkotian exclusively speaking to us on India today.
47:00He says that...
47:08We're going to try and get that reaction back on.
47:12We're going to try and get that reaction back on.
47:14But like I was saying, viewers, that like what I was pointing out,
47:19a chapter has ended in the history and will be recorded in the annals
47:23of Tamil Nadu political history forever.
47:26However, a chapter also ends for Vijay.
47:29The superstar Vijay is now the chief minister Vijay.
47:33He can borrow a bit of the persona of his stardom,
47:35but his real test as politician actually begins from this evening itself
47:40where he is the designate chief minister.
47:43Hours from now, he is going to be the chief minister.
47:46This is where his journey starts and all eyes on Vijay.
47:50He was a disruptor in a jaded field of politics,
47:55in a landscape that wanted change,
47:57and that is what at least whoever travelled down to Tamil Nadu
48:00could feel echo through its landscape.
48:02Will he come good on the promise of change?
48:05Because Vijay viewers somewhere down the line
48:08isn't just stepping into politics.
48:10He is stepping into a pool of frustration,
48:13a pool of frustration of the voters of Tamil Nadu
48:16who haven't quite been given what they've been promised for decades on.
48:20And he seemingly, with all the trappings of his stardom,
48:24is a political messiah of sorts to not just his fans,
48:28but the people who've been crying out for change.
48:30And change is what he's been promising
48:32through one rally after the other.
48:35So will he deliver on that?
48:37Because frustration is very, very volatile, viewers.
48:41It can lift you up, put you right on top,
48:43but that same frustration can abandon you with equal speed.
