01:02THERE ARE SO MANY JACKALS
01:04AND OTHER ANIMALS IN THE FORESTS
01:06BUT THERE WILL BE ONLY ONE LION
01:13IT IS NOT ONLY A DISCRIPTION
01:15BUT ALSO A CLEAR DECLARATION
01:23And even if it is single, it will be the king of the jungle.
01:36The lion is always a lion.
01:44See Joseph's wish out.
01:47Freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom.
01:55Hello and welcome. You're watching Five Live. I'm Sonal Mehrotra Kapoor.
01:58The story of the day clearly is coming in from Tamil Nadu.
02:02And it is no less than a blockbuster movie.
02:06The political debut of the year has been won by Vijay.
02:09His political debut is a blockbuster, but it's not houseful.
02:14He's still a few seats short.
02:17And what's happening?
02:19The biggest parties of that state, of the country, are lying up, are queuing up to say,
02:26form partnership with us.
02:27That's the power of democracy.
02:29And these are the stories of hope.
02:32And perhaps these are the stories that political journalists like us probably, you know, live to see every day.
02:39Well, that will be our focus on what is happening with Vijay.
02:43He will manage to get an alliance.
02:45It's a matter of when, not if.
02:48And he will be taking oath as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, if not tomorrow, then day after.
02:55Everything that's happening in the course of Tamil Nadu elections and the new government and much more will be covered
03:02on the programme today.
03:03But also, we are not missing out on a very important story.
03:08Something happened in Pune that has shaken the conscience of every parent in the country.
03:16All the heinous crimes that have been happening on young kids and how it unfolded in Pune.
03:25We'll cover that story as well.
03:26First up, let's take you through all the headlines.
03:30Vijay meets Tamil Nadu governor, stakes claim to form government.
03:34Congress gives conditional support to form government.
03:37The grand oath taking ceremony likely in the next two days.
03:44After Congress backs Vijay, DMK brands Congress as backstabber.
03:49DMK reminds Congress of BJP's Pappu Raga.
03:52Five TN Congress, MLA is root for Vijay.
03:56DMK sees it.
04:10Decks have been cleared for a new BJP government in Bengal.
04:13Oaths taking ceremony to be held on the 9th and 10th of May in Kolkata.
04:18At 10 a.m., Prime Minister Modi likely to attend the ceremony.
04:24Puldozer cleans up a less TMC office in Kolkata's new market.
04:29Locals rebuked the TMC.
04:31Says illegal encroachment removed, not the TMC office.
04:35TMC office allegedly torched in Asan, Seoul, Bengal.
04:39Election commission says zero tolerance.
04:41But still post-poll violence out in the open in the state of West Ang.
04:50Anjaf Chief Minister Bhagawan Taman calls to win blasts in Amritsar and Jalander.
04:55A BJP plot.
04:56Top cop fact-checks Chief Minister.
04:59Says Pakistan terror link exposed.
05:01BJP lashes out at Chief Minister Maan.
05:04Says he has always sided with Pakistan.
05:28We'll call it cinema meeting reality in 2024.
05:31BJP was seen on screen, sitting in a car with a number plate that read, TN CM 2026.
05:41That was the car number.
05:44And two years on, those who believe in manifestation will love this story.
05:48Two years on, the real moment is now uncomfortably close to becoming real.
05:54After emerging as the single largest party, TVK claims it has the numbers to form government.
06:00BJP has already met the governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Kekar, and also staked claim to power.
06:06The swearing-in is likely in Chennai's Jawaharlal Nehru stadium there.
06:11And sources say that Rahul Gandhi is also going to attend.
06:15But here's the twist.
06:17Despite the big win, TVK is still short of clear majority.
06:21So will BJP script a smooth political blockbuster?
06:25Or is it headed for a dramatic cliffhanger?
06:29What's really happening?
06:30Here's a quick report.
06:34But before that, let me give you a few more details.
06:38The blockbuster debut that we spoke about.
06:40Not a houseful just yet, remember I told you.
06:43BJP has stormed into Tabaladu politics, winning 107 seats in the very first outing.
06:49But the magic number still eludes him.
06:51He's short of majority and needs 11 more MLAs to pass the floor test.
06:56The Congress has offered support, but its numbers alone won't be enough.
07:00Now, the smaller parties are stepping in.
07:03There is the VCK, the left parties, even the AMMK,
07:07signalling backing for the superstar.
07:10If the numbers add up, Vijay could be home and dry.
07:14And be sort of, but stitching the alliance and keeping it intact
07:18could be a little tricky, especially for a first-time politician
07:22or a first-time chief minister, now we should call him, that is Vijay.
07:27So, all of that is happening.
07:29The number game is currently the story from Tamil Nadu
07:32and how this will actually pan out.
07:34But to understand everything that will unfold in Tamil Nadu
07:38over the next 48 hours, let's cut across to our reporters.
07:41Joining me now is Pramod Madhav, live from Chennai.
07:45Enagar Keshav is there as well.
07:47And also, Saghairad joins us over here.
07:50I have to say, before I go to all of the reporters,
07:53what a fantastic job all of you have done
07:56in covering these Tamil Nadu elections.
07:58I hope you're all giving yourself a pat on the back.
08:00And when it comes to Pramod, a fist bump from our side as well.
08:05You guys, everybody who's been watching the coverage
08:07has said that the way India today covered the Tamil Nadu elections,
08:11nobody has.
08:13So, kudos to all of you.
08:15But let me start with Pramod.
08:17I don't know what you caught up with Vijay after that fist bump,
08:20but I want to understand what's really happening
08:22in the mind of Vijay at the moment.
08:25He had said this very clearly early on,
08:28that he's not going to be a kingmaker.
08:29He will be the king.
08:31He will be the lion.
08:32He will be the king of the jungle.
08:34And he is.
08:35But he needs support to rally around him.
08:38At this time, when parties are lining up
08:40to say, we are here to support you,
08:43how are his supporters on ground,
08:45people who voted for him,
08:48seeing the other parties joining?
08:55Well, thank you, Sonal.
08:56The important aspect here is that his fans are still absolutely crazy about him
08:59and most of his cadets are completely his fans as well.
09:01So, currently, the important aspect is that now Vijay is transforming from a star
09:05into a chief minister.
09:07Now he's a chief minister-elect.
09:08And soon he's going to become the chief minister.
09:10That is for sure.
09:10Because right now, there is no other party which has a majority.
09:13For him, it's 108.
09:15But he will have to resign from Tichy.
09:16So, it comes to 107.
09:18Congress has come forward.
09:19They have broken up with DMK, apparently, in such a manner.
09:22And now, they have given five.
09:24So, the number stands at 112.
09:25He still needs another six.
09:27And this is where VCK, the CPI, and the CPIM could be the saviors.
09:31But they are still with the DMK.
09:33They will have to decide.
09:34Yesterday, until yesterday, VCK, which said that, like,
09:37no invitation has been received from the TVK,
09:40now claims that they have received the invitation.
09:42And tomorrow, they are going to hold a meet.
09:44So, that's the reason.
09:45It looks like within an hour or so,
09:47we are going to get a letter from the governor.
09:49And based on it, either Vijay can become the chief minister tomorrow or day after.
09:53So, the maximum within 48 hours,
09:55we'll come to know what's going to happen.
09:56And even, like, you know, even to the governor,
09:59Vijay can go out and say that he has the support of 118 MLAs.
10:03But later, he can prove it.
10:05He can seek time, at least two weeks' time, and he can prove it also.
10:08So, there are still times.
10:09So, Vijay is definitely becoming chief minister.
10:11And that is a kind of, like, you know, everybody, his fans and such,
10:14people who voted for him, are waiting for that moment, Sonal.
10:18All right.
10:19Fans are clearly waiting for that moment as well.
10:21But let me also cut across to our other reporters.
10:24But there are some updates coming in.
10:26Let's just quickly dip into that before I go to Anika then.
10:29The big scoop that we've had from you,
10:31from the governor, a meet that Vijay has just done.
10:35The governor didn't get a list of 118 MLAs from Vijay.
10:39Vijay didn't give Congress support letter to the governor either.
10:43He has perhaps, at this point,
10:45if I understand protocol a little bit,
10:47he would have probably said that we are the single largest party.
10:49This is what we have.
10:51And we will, we are staking claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
10:56Right?
10:57So, that's the whole, that's the whole story over here.
11:01He has not given in any kind of support letter
11:05from either the Congress party or anyone else.
11:08But like we all know, it's people, parties are lining up
11:12because everybody wants to be part of this Vijay phenomenon.
11:15And 108 seats is pretty, you know, definitive over there.
11:19But Vijay, despite that, is not leaving anything to chance.
11:22We are now getting also reports that he has got all his MLAs there,
11:27parked at a resort, ensuring that everybody comes there directly.
11:30And not, you know, in any sort of murmurs or rumours of deflection, etc.,
11:37does not happen.
11:38So, he is, despite being a debutant,
11:41seems to have written the script in very detail,
11:45going down to the T over there
11:48and understanding of how this actually works.
11:51But let me get an understanding from my colleague,
11:53Maria Shaquille, on what this means.
11:55Maria, how are we to read these indications that are coming in
11:58that the letter of showing confidence
12:01or proposing to form government there by Vijay
12:04does not list Congress?
12:05No, I would not read too much into it.
12:08Look, Vijay is the single largest party.
12:10TVK is the single largest party.
12:12So, he will be sown in tomorrow.
12:15So, as far as the protocol is concerned,
12:17the numbers have to be proved only on the floor of the House.
12:20But sources in the governor's office are telling us
12:22that what actor Vijay was carrying
12:25was essentially 108 MLA support
12:28of his own political party.
12:31And where will the remaining 10 MLAs come in from?
12:34He said that he has the numbers.
12:36He did not really mention much
12:38because in the next few hours,
12:40perhaps there would be more permutation combinations
12:43that will be worked out.
12:44But what we can tell our viewers,
12:46certainly, that he mentioned the Congress,
12:48but he did not really carry the letter of support
12:51that has been given by the Congress party already.
12:54Remember, much before he went to the governor's office,
12:57there has been a letter that has been sent
12:59by the Congress office.
13:01And the sense was that the Congress
13:03being very, very open to the idea,
13:05why did the actor, why did, you know,
13:07the CM designate that he is now,
13:10not mention that or why did he not carry it?
13:14That is something perhaps his team will be able to respond.
13:17But what we can certainly tell is
13:19that he said that he had the numbers,
13:21he has the numbers and that only when the time comes
13:25that he will be able to prove it.
13:27At the moment, he did not carry the letters of support,
13:30which has been extended by multiple political parties
13:32in the last few hours was not something
13:35that actor Vijay was carrying with himself.
13:38And when the entire delegation of the TVK
13:41went to meet Governor R. Lekha.
13:43Okay, and that time frame that Maria was talking about
13:46is about 10 to 15 days.
13:47That's the times given for the government
13:49to actually come in.
13:51Go ahead, Maria.
13:52So, on 7th, that is tomorrow,
13:55is when the tenure of the Assembly comes to an end.
13:59It is the governor who will decide
14:01when should the next session,
14:02the first session of the Assembly be called.
14:05The pro-tem speaker will be carrying out
14:09the entire process of administering the oath
14:12to all the MLAs who have won this election.
14:16And thereafter, the process will begin
14:19of proving the numbers on the floor of the House.
14:22When will the Assembly be called?
14:24That date is yet to be decided.
14:26I think all that will be done
14:28only after the swearing-in happens tomorrow.
14:31Alright, so the destiny is pretty much sealed.
14:33Vijay will become the Chief Minister.
14:35It's a matter of either tomorrow or day after.
14:37Once he's sworn in,
14:38that's when the next leg of formalities
14:40on Cabinet, MLAs, etc. actually unfolds.
14:44I also have Apoorva with me
14:45and also Aniga and Sagai Raj are here with us.
14:49So let me quickly go across to Apoorva as well.
14:52Apoorva, you are coming to us from the TVK office.
14:55What's the sentiment like over there?
14:57Give us a sense of what's happening.
14:59In the morning, we saw visuals
15:00and lots of comments coming in
15:02from other political parties.
15:04Like I said, other political parties
15:05are lining up at the moment
15:06to form alliance with Vijay.
15:12Well, in fact, Sonal,
15:13what we are getting to learn
15:14is that earlier this morning
15:16the Congress had arrived
15:17at the TVK headquarters here
15:19and they were in fact
15:20quite ecstatic about
15:23confirming their, you know,
15:24so-called alliance with the TVK.
15:26There are five MLAs
15:27that will go in support for the TVK
15:30as, you know,
15:31now it is almost close to
15:32112, 113 seats
15:34that TVK will get along
15:35with the Congress there.
15:36Remember, Vijay has also written
15:38to other smaller parties
15:39be it the VCK,
15:41be it the CPI,
15:41CPM,
15:42another party,
15:43IUML,
15:44and other parties as well.
15:45Vijay has also reached out
15:46in hopes that they will also likely,
15:49you know,
15:49have their internal discussion
15:50and they will come out
15:52in support for TVK.
15:53Remember,
15:54five to six plus seats
15:55more that TVK has to get
15:57for ascertaining a majority
15:59so that TVK can go ahead
16:01and form the government there.
16:02Vijay has also gone ahead
16:04and met with the governor
16:05of Tamil Nadu
16:06just a couple of hours
16:07before as well
16:08and he has stated,
16:10listen,
16:10these are all the numbers
16:11we have as of now
16:12and these are the numbers
16:13we are also likely expecting
16:15in the next couple of hours.
16:16So hopefully,
16:17all things should be wrapped up
16:18before we can go ahead
16:19and give you those numbers
16:21so that we can form the government.
16:22This is the mindset
16:23that TVK has.
16:25But make no mistake,
16:26if these numbers
16:27do not come in,
16:28there will be
16:29yet another option
16:30that TVK will have
16:31to ponder into essentially
16:32which will be
16:33the AI-ADMK.
16:35Earlier this morning,
16:36close to 25 to 30 plus
16:38MLAs from the AI-ADMK
16:39were mulling off
16:41a prospect
16:41of joining with the TVK.
16:43They are led by
16:44CV Shanmugam
16:45and senior leaders
16:45including SP Belumani as well.
16:47These MLAs
16:48had expressed
16:49their desire
16:50that they will want
16:51to join with the TVK.
16:52But the TVK
16:53has put AI-ADMK
16:55on the backbench
16:56right now
16:57because for them,
16:59they want to assimilate
17:00these smaller parties
17:01so that they can get
17:02a minimum majority.
17:04That is,
17:04even if they cross
17:05120, 125 seats as well,
17:08including the smallest parties,
17:09that itself is enough
17:10for TVK
17:11to prove
17:12that they have a majority.
17:13But if even
17:15one or two
17:15of these parties
17:16that will join
17:17with the TVK,
17:18the smaller parties,
17:19decide to walk out
17:20from there,
17:21yet again,
17:21TVK has that grave chance
17:23and danger
17:24of losing the majority
17:25and it will be
17:26seat-sharing talks,
17:28it will be
17:28resort politics
17:29all over again.
17:30It looks like
17:31this will go on
17:32for a couple of days more
17:33but right now,
17:34the governor
17:35has listened to
17:36the TVK.
17:37Talking about
17:38resort politics
17:39a little bit,
17:40let me cut across
17:40to Anika and Sagai
17:42as well.
17:43Sagai,
17:43let me come to you.
17:44Tell us
17:45what exactly
17:45is happening
17:46with the MLAs
17:47of Vijay's party,
17:50of TVK.
17:51We were told
17:52that they have
17:52all been huddled up.
17:53Is that true?
18:04Many of them
18:05have travelled
18:06from their respective
18:07constituency
18:07from a different district
18:09and remember,
18:10most of them
18:11are first-time
18:11MLAs
18:12and these people
18:14are very new
18:17to the politics
18:17and that is the reason
18:18they have been
18:19camped in one
18:20of the resorts
18:21in Mahabalipuram
18:22where they are staying
18:23and they have
18:24been instructed
18:25to come together
18:26on 7th,
18:27that is tomorrow
18:27when Vijay
18:29is taking oath.
18:30Now Vijay
18:31has taken claims
18:31with the governor
18:33so probably
18:33once they announce
18:35the time
18:35there will be
18:35instructions
18:36which will be
18:36given to all
18:37the MLAs
18:37from the TVK
18:38to come together
18:39on that particular
18:40time to Nehru Stadium.
18:43All right.
18:44Let me cut across
18:45to Anika as well
18:45at this point.
18:46Anika,
18:47you know the way
18:48the entire story
18:49is unfolding
18:50of Vijay's victory
18:52what he's doing
18:52right now
18:53it seems
18:55very thought out.
18:57It seems
18:58not like
18:59he's doing this
19:01for the first time.
19:02He's gone into
19:02the details.
19:03It's very well scripted
19:05very well directed
19:06and produced as well.
19:08Can you talk to us
19:09a little bit
19:10about who are
19:11these guiding factors?
19:13Who are the people
19:13really in Vijay's team
19:15who are taking
19:16guiding him
19:17at this point
19:18taking the decisions
19:19and also crafting
19:20the next moves?
19:26In fact,
19:26those men
19:27that you see
19:28next to Vijay
19:28standing with the governor
19:29are going to be
19:30the key figures
19:31who will be running
19:32the government
19:33in Tamil Nadu.
19:34It was Adhav Arjuna
19:35who was in DMK
19:36before and then
19:37shifted to VCK
19:38and then left that party
19:40and then joined TVK.
19:41So Adhav Arjuna
19:42is going to be
19:43one of the strong men
19:44who will be leading
19:45the government
19:45in Tamil Nadu
19:46followed by
19:47Bhusi Anand,
19:47Nirmal Kumar,
19:49Arun Raj,
19:49Dr. Arun Raj.
19:51He holds an MBBS degree
19:52formerly in IRS officer
19:53who took a voluntary retirement
19:55and then there is
19:56Venkat Raman
19:56who is an MLA
19:57from the Mailapur constituency
19:58and then Sengotian
20:00which is in fact
20:01a very big boon
20:02to the TVK party.
20:03The fact that
20:04he has been in
20:05ADMK for so long.
20:07Sengotian
20:07is one tall leader
20:08been in politics
20:09for the last 50 years
20:10very very close
20:11aid of Jail Arita.
20:12So he carries with him
20:14the weight
20:15of political acumen,
20:17the weight
20:17of political experience.
20:19So this is going to be
20:20the strong pack of leaders
20:21that will be leading
20:23the government
20:24in Tamil Nadu
20:25along with Vijay.
20:26These will be the key figures
20:28who will be influencing
20:29and advising Vijay
20:30about his possibly
20:31next steps.
20:33Alright, interesting.
20:34Anaka, I have one more man
20:35which you haven't mentioned
20:36who has been the architect
20:38of everything
20:39that we see of Vijay today.
20:40but I'll request
20:41all the reporters
20:42to stay back
20:43as we take our viewers
20:44through the next big story.
20:45Let us talk to you now
20:47about the man
20:48who made Vijay the Thalapati.
20:51Now, every great political story
20:53has a puppeteer.
20:55Tamil Nadu
20:55has now just witnessed
20:56its most stunning electoral upset
20:58in a generation.
20:59First time party,
21:00107 seats.
21:01A cinema icon
21:02days away
21:03from being sworn in
21:04as the chief minister.
21:06The cameras have all pointed
21:08at the sun
21:09but today
21:10we point ours
21:12somewhere else.
21:13To an 80-year-old
21:15film director
21:16from a fishing village
21:19next to
21:21Ramanathpuram.
21:22His name
21:23is Senapathi
21:25Albert Chandrasekharan.
21:27The world knows him
21:28as SAC
21:31and if Vijay
21:32is the
21:33Jananayagan
21:34of Tamil Nadu,
21:35SAC
21:36is the
21:37Chanakya.
21:38Let's tell you about
21:39how the story started.
21:40Now,
21:41we are talking about
21:42SAC.
21:43He was born in 1945.
21:44Catholic Christian family,
21:46coastal Tamil Nadu.
21:47Over 70 films,
21:49a craftsman
21:49obsessed with stories
21:50about ordinary people
21:52and social justice.
21:53He married
21:54Shobha,
21:55a Carnatic vocalist.
21:56Together,
21:57they built a home
21:57where art
21:58was the air
22:00people breathed.
22:01On the 22nd of June,
22:031974,
22:04Joseph Vijay
22:05was born.
22:06The son
22:07of a director,
22:08Angasinga.
22:09A child
22:10almost
22:11sort of
22:11preordained
22:12to belong
22:13to the silver screen.
22:14There was grief too.
22:16A younger daughter,
22:17Vidya,
22:18died at the age of two.
22:19It shaped Vijay
22:20into a
22:21quiet,
22:22reserved man,
22:22a man of few words,
22:24a man who's
22:24barely spoken
22:25in his entire
22:27election.
22:27campaign.
22:28Now,
22:29SAC responded
22:31to grief
22:31the way
22:32all directors do.
22:33He made
22:33more movies.
22:35He cast
22:36the only star
22:37he truly trusted,
22:38his son.
22:40Vijay's first
22:41lead role
22:42was born
22:42in 1992,
22:44directed by his father,
22:45but the movie
22:47flopped.
22:49A lesser man
22:50would have stopped
22:50back,
22:52you know,
22:53stepped right back
22:54into it,
22:54but SAC
22:55did not step back.
22:56He paired
22:57Vijay
22:57with another
22:58big superstar,
23:00Vijayakant,
23:01and then produced
23:02hits after the other.
23:05There was
23:05the Rasigan,
23:07there was,
23:07it went on to about
23:08175 days in theatres,
23:10and the name
23:11that would define
23:12a life forever,
23:13it was Thalapati,
23:14the young commander.
23:16Then there was
23:16Deva that came out
23:17in 1995,
23:18100 days,
23:19again,
23:20directed by
23:21SAC.
23:22By mid-1990s,
23:25the father had
23:25done his job,
23:26SAC stepped back
23:27from Vijay's
23:28professional life,
23:29but never,
23:30not once,
23:31from the larger
23:32project that he
23:33had in mind.
23:34Now,
23:35while Vijay became
23:36Thalapati,
23:36the commander
23:37whose films
23:38were greeted
23:39with temple rituals,
23:41thundering drums,
23:42his father
23:42was watching
23:43something else,
23:45and planning
23:46and crafting
23:47something else
23:48entirely.
23:49He was watching
23:50the crowd.
23:51In 2009,
23:52his father
23:53consolidated
23:54every Vijay
23:55fan club
23:55in Tamil Nadu
23:56into one single
23:57body.
23:57It was called
23:58the Vijay
23:59Makkal Ayakam.
24:00A film industry
24:01source later
24:02told newspaper
24:03reports that
24:04his father
24:05initiated his
24:05political plans
24:06in 2009
24:08when the fan
24:10group was formed.
24:11The son was
24:12content to be
24:13a star.
24:14The father
24:14was building
24:15an army.
24:16He watched
24:18sort of
24:19Marcel,
24:20the movie
24:20that he
24:20worked on,
24:21take on
24:21GST,
24:23take on
24:23Sarkar.
24:24Then there
24:24was a very
24:25dramatized movie
24:26on electoral
24:27fraud.
24:27There was
24:28another movie
24:29on corporate
24:29exploitation
24:30of farmers.
24:31There was
24:32another movie
24:33which talked
24:33about frauds
24:35and police
24:35and other
24:36cases.
24:36Now,
24:37if you look
24:37at it,
24:38these were
24:39not just
24:40blockbusters.
24:41These were
24:41political
24:42positioning
24:43papers
24:44wrapped up
24:45in, of course,
24:45song and dance.
24:46Now,
24:47whether Vijay
24:48fully understood
24:49their sort
24:51of cumulative
24:51effect or not,
24:52his father
24:53certainly did.
24:54Many say
24:55he wrote it.
24:56So,
24:57SAC decided,
24:58the father
24:58decided to
24:59force the
24:59issue.
25:00Now,
25:00this is where
25:01the Kahani
25:02mid-twist
25:02actually happens.
25:03In 2020,
25:05without telling
25:05his son,
25:06his father
25:07transformed the
25:08Vijay Makkal
25:08Ayakam into
25:10a political
25:10party,
25:11named himself
25:12the General
25:12Secretary,
25:13named his
25:13wife Shobha
25:14the treasurer,
25:15registered it,
25:16announced it
25:17to the press
25:17and waited
25:18for Vijay to
25:19catch up.
25:20Vijay did not
25:21catch up.
25:22Vijay called
25:23his lawyers.
25:24In September
25:25of 2021,
25:26Vijay filed a
25:26lawsuit against
25:27his own father,
25:28his own mother
25:29and nine others.
25:30The petition
25:31called the entire
25:32exercise illegal,
25:33immoral,
25:34uncivilized,
25:35even unethical.
25:36The father had
25:37tried to write
25:38his son's
25:38political destiny
25:39without taking
25:40his permission.
25:41The son tore
25:42up the script
25:42and walked
25:43off of the
25:44set completely.
25:45Then what did
25:46the father do?
25:47The father had
25:47to dissolve
25:48the party.
25:48He told the
25:49reporters back
25:50then,
25:50and I quote
25:50him now,
25:51that I have
25:51decided I
25:52want to have
25:53no more part
25:54in politics
25:55or the Ayakam
25:56or in any
25:57political activity
25:58in these late
25:59years of my
25:59life.
26:00It was perhaps
26:01the most
26:01unconvincing
26:02retirement
26:03announcement
26:03anybody has
26:04ever heard.
26:04But then,
26:05something changed
26:06three years
26:07later.
26:08Three years
26:09later,
26:09a vacuum
26:10had arrived.
26:11Like a
26:12monsoon that
26:13was predicted
26:14but still
26:14floods
26:15everything in
26:16its path.
26:17The Dravidian
26:18duopoly
26:18that had
26:19divided Tamil
26:20Nadu for
26:21almost half
26:22a century
26:23suddenly looked
26:24exhausted.
26:26And in
26:26February of
26:272024,
26:28Vijay formally
26:29entered politics.
26:30He announced
26:31his party,
26:32the TVK.
26:34And who
26:34do you think
26:35was waiting
26:35at the gate
26:36when the sun
26:37finally walked
26:38through?
26:38It was his
26:39father.
26:39He came
26:40back.
26:41Quietly,
26:42the way a
26:43good director
26:43sort of re-enters
26:44a film,
26:45he never
26:46really left.
26:47He did not
26:48need a title.
26:49He had
26:49something better.
26:50He had the
26:50ear of the
26:52candidates.
26:53Before polling
26:54day,
26:54it was his
26:55father,
26:56SAC,
26:56who was
26:56reaching out
26:57to the
26:57Congress,
26:58urging an
26:58alliance with
26:59the TVK.
27:00His pitch
27:00was direct.
27:01Congress is
27:02diminishing
27:03because it
27:03has no
27:04power.
27:04Vijay,
27:05he said,
27:06could give
27:06them that
27:07power.
27:08Congress stood
27:09by the
27:09DMK alliance,
27:10did not
27:11ally with
27:12them,
27:12but SAC
27:13had made
27:14his move.
27:15He was
27:16not negotiating
27:16from weakness.
27:17He was
27:18projecting the
27:18confidence of
27:19a man who
27:19already knew
27:20what the
27:21result is going
27:21to be.
27:22And then
27:22everything
27:23changed on
27:24the 4th of
27:24May,
27:24of course.
27:254th of
27:26May,
27:262026,
27:27the votes
27:27are counted.
27:28Tremors
27:29become a
27:30landslide.
27:30TVK
27:31crossed the
27:31seat after
27:33seat.
27:33SAC,
27:34the father,
27:35stepped
27:36before the
27:37cameras again.
27:38This time,
27:39his message
27:40was to
27:41Congress,
27:42was no
27:42longer
27:43courtship,
27:44and he
27:44said it
27:44was
27:44proclamation.
27:46They said,
27:47ally with
27:48Vijay,
27:48he will
27:48give you
27:49the power
27:49you lost.
27:50And then
27:51came the
27:51moment.
27:52The man
27:52who had
27:53once been
27:53sued by
27:54his own
27:54son,
27:55who had
27:56been publicly
27:56humiliated by
27:58every person
27:59he spent
27:5940 years
28:01grooming.
28:02He stood
28:02before the
28:03press and
28:04he said,
28:04and I quote
28:04him here,
28:05that his
28:06courage as
28:06a leader to
28:07stand alone
28:07without any
28:08alliance is
28:08commendable.
28:09I see this
28:10as a historic
28:10achievement.
28:11As a father,
28:12I am very
28:13proud and
28:13happy.
28:14So no
28:15script,
28:15no camera
28:16angle,
28:17just a
28:17father who
28:18had dreamed
28:18a dream
28:20bigger than
28:21his son was
28:22willing to
28:22dream.
28:23And he
28:23lived long
28:24enough to
28:24see it
28:25come to.
28:25Now,
28:26look at
28:26those visuals
28:27from May
28:274th of
28:28his entire
28:29family.
28:29Now,
28:30the analysts
28:31will credit
28:31the brand,
28:32the fan base,
28:33the cinema
28:34mythology.
28:35What they
28:35will not
28:36credit is
28:36this stubborn,
28:38obsessive,
28:39occasionally
28:39reckless vision
28:40of an 80-year-old
28:42filmmaker who
28:42saw his son's
28:43political destiny
28:44before anyone
28:45else did,
28:46and simply
28:47refused to
28:49stop directing.
28:50He got the
28:50math right,
28:51he perhaps
28:52got the timing
28:52wrong and
28:53paid for it
28:54as well.
28:55But,
28:56he recovered.
28:58He came
28:58back through
28:59the side
28:59door when
29:00the front
29:00door was
29:01closed.
29:01This is
29:02not a
29:02proud father
29:03riding his
29:04son's
29:04sort of
29:05coattails.
29:06This is
29:06a strategist
29:07who understood
29:07long before
29:08the first
29:09ballot was
29:09cast that
29:10Tamil Nadu's
29:10next generation
29:12of politics
29:13is going to
29:15be different.
29:15That the
29:16next great
29:17political story
29:18was not going
29:18to begin in
29:19a party office
29:20or a legislative
29:21chamber.
29:22It began
29:23on a film
29:25set in
29:251984,
29:27I go back
29:27to that
29:27time,
29:28with a
29:28small boy
29:29named Joseph
29:30standing in
29:31front of
29:32his father's
29:32camera.
29:33That's him
29:33over there
29:34learning how
29:35to be a
29:36hero.
29:37And today,
29:37SAC,
29:38who has
29:39never won a
29:40national award,
29:41never became
29:42an MP,
29:43he remained in
29:44the public
29:44imagination
29:45simply as
29:46Vijay's
29:47father.
29:49But,
29:49the night
29:50of 4th,
29:535th May
29:552026,
29:55the greatest
29:56production of
29:57his career
29:57was complete.
29:59No reel,
30:00no trailer,
30:01no premiere,
30:02just 107
30:04seats.
30:06That's the
30:06story nobody
30:07has told about
30:08Vijay just
30:08yet.
30:11All right,
30:12let me go
30:13back to our
30:14reporters now
30:14to get a
30:15sense of
30:15what's really
30:16happening on
30:16the ground
30:17as well.
30:18Sagay,
30:18we were just
30:19looking at
30:20the story
30:21of who
30:22crafted,
30:23who was
30:24the director
30:24of Vijay's
30:25political
30:26journey as
30:27well,
30:27right from
30:28his movies
30:29to now
30:30politics as
30:31well.
30:31His father
30:32has played
30:32such a key
30:33role and
30:34continues to
30:35play.
30:35He's the
30:36one who
30:36actually made
30:36the call
30:37to the
30:37Congress.
30:41Absolutely.
30:41He is the
30:42first director
30:43of his
30:44movie.
30:44He debuted
30:45under his
30:46father's
30:46banner and
30:47he's the
30:48person who
30:49directed his
30:50first movie
30:50and subsequently
30:51has become
30:51a star.
30:53And as you
30:53rightly pointed
30:54out, he's
30:55also one of
30:55them who
30:56have registered
30:57the party
30:57under his
30:58name and
30:59as well as
30:59his wife's
31:00name.
31:00And Vijay
31:01always had
31:02that intent
31:03to come to
31:04politics.
31:05And if you
31:05notice that
31:06it is not
31:07only last
31:07two years
31:08that he's
31:08active in
31:08politics.
31:09Whenever there
31:10was an issue,
31:12a social issue
31:13including Jalli
31:14Kathu as
31:15well as
31:15various other
31:16issues where
31:17people had
31:18protested,
31:18killed in
31:19shootout,
31:19he had
31:20visited every
31:21single place.
31:22And even in
31:23Jalli Kathu he
31:24wore a cap and
31:25protested along
31:26with the people
31:27and later on
31:27that particular
31:28photo went
31:30viral.
31:30So he was
31:31actively seen
31:32supporting the
31:33people in
31:34one or the
31:35other causes
31:36especially
31:36anti-social
31:37causes and
31:38he has
31:39raised the
31:40voice and
31:40even in
31:41movies as
31:42you pointed
31:42out in
31:43the package
31:43that he
31:45was being
31:45vocal about
31:46various issues
31:47especially
31:48social evil
31:50as well as
31:52the policies
31:53which is
31:54against the
31:55people.
31:56And now
31:56he has come
31:57forward and
31:58not only in
31:59the movie he
31:59has played a
32:00main role
32:00even in
32:01politics he
32:02is the
32:02main role
32:03he is the
32:03person who
32:04have garnered
32:05so much of
32:05vote.
32:06Remember most
32:07of them most
32:08of the 90%
32:09of the
32:09MLEs who
32:10have won
32:11elections are
32:12contesting for
32:12the first time
32:13and every
32:14single person
32:15who went to
32:15the booth
32:16and voted
32:17voted for
32:17Vijay not
32:18for the party
32:19not for the
32:20candidate.
32:21It is for
32:21Vijay and he
32:22has proved
32:23his reach in
32:24Tabilladu.
32:26Alright sir
32:27guy we leave
32:27it there for
32:28the moment.
32:28Thank you so
32:29much for joining
32:29us with all
32:30those details.
32:31Clearly the
32:32story is not
32:33over just yet
32:34and what we've
32:35got next for
32:36you is another
32:36insight.
32:37We love
32:38bringing explainers
32:38to you here on
32:395 Live.
32:40Now he may be
32:41the face of the
32:42movement but
32:43every political
32:44surge needs a
32:45core team.
32:47So we looked at
32:49in Tamil Nadu
32:50as Vijay's TVK
32:51makes a big
32:51electoral splash.
32:53The spotlight is
32:54on his 5 men
32:58who formed the
32:59spine of his
33:00entire political
33:01machine.
33:01This is the
33:02story of Vijay's
33:04secret 5.
33:06At the heart
33:07of it all
33:07let's start
33:08with Mr.
33:09Anand.
33:10He is not a
33:12loyalist but
33:12Vijay's most
33:13trusted, not
33:15just a loyalist
33:16I mean but
33:16Vijay's most
33:17trusted general.
33:18The man who
33:18built the bridge
33:19from fandom
33:20to a full
33:21fledged politics
33:23and entire
33:23political coverage
33:24that we're
33:25looking at.
33:25Transforming Vijay's
33:26makal, you know
33:28here come into
33:29a structured
33:29political force.
33:31The key
33:31architect of
33:32TVK framework
33:33and now a
33:34winner and an
33:36MLA from
33:37T Nagar as
33:38well.
33:39Then let's
33:39come to his
33:40secret 5.
33:41Man number
33:422.
33:43This is
33:44Arun Raj.
33:45An unusual
33:46mix of
33:47medicine and
33:48administration and
33:49MBBS graduate
33:50a former
33:51IRS officer
33:52who walked
33:53away from
33:53a very secure
33:54government
33:54career to
33:55join Vijay's
33:56political gamble
33:57bringing bureaucratic
33:59insight into
34:01a rising party
34:02and also
34:03emerging victorious
34:04from his
34:05constituency he
34:06fought from.
34:07Now behind
34:08the scenes
34:09there is
34:10another man
34:11who is part
34:12of the
34:12secret 5
34:13of Vijay
34:14and this
34:15is CTR
34:17Nirmal Kumar.
34:18he is the
34:19data brain
34:20they say
34:21a social
34:22media strategist
34:23and TVK's
34:24sort of
34:25data man
34:26the man
34:26tracking trends
34:27reading water
34:28behavior and
34:29managing boots
34:30level strategy
34:31as well
34:31and after
34:32switching from
34:33the BJP
34:35in 2025
34:37he now powers
34:38Vijay's digital
34:40and electoral
34:40engine
34:41winning
34:42also from
34:44the seat.
34:45then there
34:46is another
34:46man
34:47this one
34:48is
34:49Adhav
34:49Arjuna
34:50the name
34:51that brings
34:52both
34:52intrigue
34:53and influence
34:54son-in-law
34:55of lottery
34:56baron
34:56Mr.
34:58Stangago
34:58Martin
34:59with the
35:00political
35:00journey
35:00across
35:01parties
35:01DMK
35:02VCK
35:04and now
35:04TVK
35:05positioning
35:06himself
35:06as the
35:07critique
35:07of
35:08dynastic
35:09politics
35:09even as
35:10questions
35:11around
35:12influence
35:13remain
35:14when it
35:14comes to
35:14him
35:15and then
35:15finally
35:16in a
35:17secret
35:17five
35:17is
35:18experience
35:19which
35:19comes
35:19from
35:20a
35:20nine-time
35:21MLA
35:22KA
35:23Sen
35:24Gothayan
35:24a veteran
35:26who has
35:27been
35:27Tamil Nadu
35:27politics
35:28has seen
35:30it very
35:30very closely
35:31understands
35:32it like
35:32no one
35:33else
35:33and from
35:34NGA's
35:34era to
35:35Jailalita's
35:36inner circles
35:36he's seen
35:37it all
35:37once a
35:38powerful
35:39face
35:39in
35:39AIA
35:39DMK
35:40now
35:40he's
35:42said to
35:42be
35:42Vijay's
35:43guiding
35:44hand
35:44as well
35:44and winning
35:45again
35:46from his
35:47seat
35:47so
35:47what did
35:48you see
35:49there
35:49you saw
35:49five
35:50faces
35:51you saw
35:52a loyal
35:53organizer
35:55you saw
35:56a bureaucratic
35:57you know
35:59bureaucrat
35:59turned
35:59politician
36:00you saw
36:01a data
36:01strategist
36:02you also
36:03saw
36:03a networked
36:04power player
36:05and you saw
36:05a seasoned
36:06veteran
36:06together
36:08they form
36:09what Vijay
36:10calls
36:11are his
36:12secret
36:12five
36:13weapons
36:14these are
36:15also the
36:15men you
36:15saw
36:16when they
36:17go
36:17when he
36:18went in
36:19to meet
36:19the governor
36:20as well
36:22alright
36:22on that note
36:23let's cut
36:23across to
36:24some more
36:24updates
36:24coming in
36:25this is
36:25TVK
36:28has given
36:29to the
36:29governor
36:30107
36:31plus 5
36:32signatures
36:33of MLAs
36:34to the
36:35Lokbhavan
36:35governor
36:36and said
36:37please
36:37and the
36:38governor
36:39then told
36:39him
36:40that please
36:40come back
36:41with 118
36:41this is
36:42interesting
36:42TVK
36:44also took
36:44time
36:44and will
36:45get back
36:46with the
36:46numbers
36:47sources say
36:47tomorrow
36:48VCK and
36:49left likely
36:50will come
36:51on board
36:51with TVK
36:52all right
36:53this is
36:54fascinating
36:55news
36:55coming in
36:57Vijay went
36:58with 107
37:02okay 107
37:03plus 5
37:04but the
37:04governor said
37:05please come
37:05back with
37:06118
37:07that is
37:08really really
37:09fascinating
37:10but before we
37:11go ahead with
37:11this let me
37:12cut across to
37:12Rajdeep
37:13Sardesai
37:13who's got a
37:14special guest
37:14with him
37:21thank you
37:23very much
37:23there I'm
37:24joined now
37:25by Karthi
37:26Chidhamram
37:26Karthi Chidhamram
37:27of course
37:28is the
37:29Congress
37:31MP from
37:32Tamil Nadu
37:33appreciate you
37:34joining us
37:34there Karthi
37:35Chidhamram
37:36my first
37:37question to
37:37you is the
37:39Congress giving
37:40unconditional
37:41support to
37:42Vijay we are
37:42being told that
37:43you have made
37:44it very clear
37:45you are only
37:46giving him
37:46support if he
37:47stays away from
37:48communal elements
37:49I want to
37:50understand is
37:51this conditional
37:52or unconditional
37:53support to
37:53Vijay
37:54it's clearly
37:55conditional it's
37:56conditional on
37:57the kind of
37:58allies he
37:59brings to the
38:00table we do
38:01not want
38:02anybody who
38:03is communal
38:04and who doesn't
38:05believe in the
38:05constitutional and
38:07secular values of
38:08India
38:10let's be very
38:11clear are you
38:12telling me that
38:13if Vijay for
38:14example brings
38:15the AIDMK
38:16which had
38:17aligned in the
38:18election with
38:19the BJP will
38:20you be part of
38:21such a government
38:21are you willing to
38:22give outside
38:23support or you
38:24want to be in
38:25government and
38:25have power sharing
38:27we are in for
38:29the whole hog
38:29now we are in
38:30for support and
38:31participation but I
38:32do not know what
38:33terms or what
38:34conditions the
38:35ADMK wants to
38:37come out is it
38:37the whole of
38:38ADMK coming or
38:39a fraction of
38:40the ADMK breaking
38:41away I don't
38:42know so that's
38:42all not in my
38:44purview at all so
38:44I don't know we
38:45only react to it
38:46when that happens
38:47but we are very
38:47clear that we
38:48would want this
38:49government to be
38:50stable and
38:50secular
38:51how do you create a
38:53stable government
38:53please tell me
38:55Vijay has 107
38:57MLAs
38:58Congress has 5
38:59that becomes 112
39:00in a 234 member
39:02assembly
39:03Vijay has still
39:04not given or
39:06told us at least
39:07or told even the
39:07governor which
39:08parties exactly will
39:10support him if it
39:10is small parties like
39:11VCK and a couple
39:13of others it only
39:14adds barely to
39:15118 just over the
39:16halfway month how
39:17will you create a
39:18stable government is
39:19this simply the
39:20Congress looking to
39:21somehow get back
39:22into power in
39:23Tamil Nadu after
39:2450 years
39:26how he cobbles up
39:27the numbers is
39:28really up to the
39:30TVK they are in
39:31pole position and
39:32they must reach out
39:33to political parties
39:34as they reached out
39:34to us there are
39:35other political
39:36parties there the
39:36DCK is there the
39:38communist party is
39:38there the DMDK is
39:39there there are
39:40many smaller
39:41political parties on
39:42both sides of
39:45both other
39:46formations it's up to
39:47him to reach out
39:48to them and to
39:48come to some
39:49understanding so we
39:50are not doing this
39:51only for power let's
39:52be very clear the
39:53mandate of the
39:54people is for
39:54change people have
39:56voted for a change
39:57they want a
39:57government which is
39:58which is not led
40:00by either the DMK
40:01or the ADNK the
40:02two political parties
40:03which have been
40:04heading government
40:05for the last 60
40:06years they want the
40:07government to be
40:07headed by Vijay they
40:09want a government to
40:09be headed by the
40:10TVK but they have
40:11also put a caveat
40:12they have said that
40:13they while they want
40:14the government to be
40:14headed by Vijay they
40:15want him to go out
40:16and get a few other
40:18political parties to
40:19aid and assist him
40:19they have not given
40:20him a mandate by
40:21himself and he is
40:22doing he is
40:22respecting that
40:23mandate and reaching
40:24out to political
40:24parties he's reached
40:26out to us formally so
40:27we are extending our
40:28support so now he
40:29needs to reach out to
40:30other political parties
40:31I believe he has now
40:32they need to respond and
40:33then we'll see how
40:35the DMK says you
40:36backstabbed them look the
40:38fact is one minute
40:39one minute Mr.
40:40Chitamram you've got a
40:42situation where the
40:43DMK has been your
40:44partner for the last
40:45two decades you've got
40:46a situation where MK
40:47Stalin endorsed Rahul
40:48Gandhi as the prime
40:49minister candidate for
40:502024 he said we are
40:52brothers suddenly you
40:53are backstabbing your
40:54brother let me explain
40:57this it's a very harsh
40:59criticism you know there
41:01are you have there are
41:02pre-poll alliances and
41:04if none of the pre-poll
41:05alliances get a working
41:06majority on their own
41:07you have to explore other
41:09options to form a
41:10working majority this
41:11happens in all
41:12parliamentary democracy
41:13you are very familiar of
41:14these things which
41:15happen in Germany in
41:16Belgium and Netherlands
41:17if we had deprived the
41:19DMK of forming a
41:21government because we
41:22moved out that would be
41:23called backstabbing but
41:24DMK is not in any
41:25position to form
41:26government we are not
41:27depriving the DMK of
41:28anything yes we fought
41:30the elections with the
41:31DMK we fought the
41:32elections wholeheartedly
41:33with the DMK but the
41:34people have given a very
41:35clear mandate the
41:36mandate is for change
41:37the mandate is for
41:38which I will lead a
41:39government with the aid
41:40and assistance of other
41:41parties we are only
41:42respecting the mandate
41:43we are not depriving the
41:44DMK of anything if we
41:45had deprived the DMK of
41:47forming a government
41:48then that would be
41:48called backstabbing so
41:49you're not depriving the
41:50DMK of anything
41:51Mr. Chidhamram you went
41:52into this election with
41:54the DMK you all went in
41:55an alliance with them now
41:57now you are ditching your
41:59ally whether you like it
42:00or not your so-called
42:01India alliance partner
42:02because you are sending
42:04power with TVK that is the
42:06argument that the DMK is
42:07giving that the congress at
42:09the slightest scent of
42:10power is leaving us
42:12everybody sticks to the
42:14pre-poll alliance position
42:15we'll never have a
42:16government in Tamil Nadu
42:17because the DMK doesn't
42:18have 118 with its allies
42:20the ADMK doesn't have 118
42:21with its allies TVK doesn't
42:23have 118 with its allies
42:24because it had no allies
42:25so we cannot form a
42:27government so are you
42:28suggesting that we should
42:29negate the verdict of the
42:30people of Tamil Nadu and
42:31go back to elections
42:32because nobody's been able
42:33to have a pre-poll
42:34working alliance you're
42:36trying to create a
42:37working alliance this
42:37happens in Europe all the
42:38time particularly the
42:39Green Party every time
42:41after an election they
42:42go out and join a
42:43formation with some
42:44common program we have
42:46come to we'll come to
42:46some understanding with
42:47the TVK like a couple
42:49of other parties also do
42:50is it not true that
42:51before the election there
42:52were attempts also made
42:53by the TNCC congress
42:54leaders to ally with
42:56Vijay that Rahul Gandhi
42:57was also in favor of
42:58this but the older
43:00generation including your
43:01father were the ones
43:02who vetoed it is that
43:03true or not that in
43:05hindsight you got it
43:06horribly wrong
43:08everybody's a genius in
43:09hindsight Rajdeep so let
43:11me explain this yes
43:13there were many options
43:14before us before the
43:15election few of us
43:17voiced our opinion
43:18publicly many some
43:20spoke privately all
43:22options were evaluated
43:23by the AICC leadership
43:24every MLA and MP was
43:27personally spoken to
43:28every AICC functionary
43:30was personally spoken
43:31to and many many
43:33district level leaders
43:34were also consulted
43:35AICC took the input of
43:36everybody then came to
43:38a consensual decision
43:41of continuing the
43:42existing alliance at
43:43that time there was no
43:44trigger to walk out of
43:45the alliance there was no
43:46trigger that the likes of
43:47Mr. P. Chidamram opposed
43:49the alliance yes or no
43:51many people had many
43:52opinions all opinions
43:53were taken into account
43:54to somehow to say one
43:55do you regret it do you
43:57regret not going with it
43:58listen to me hear me out
43:59hear me out if one person
44:01had thrust the decision
44:02which was unpopular with
44:03the power on the rank and
44:05file of the party 1996
44:06would have happened
44:07Narsim Rao thrust the
44:08decision on the Congress
44:09party in 1996 he wanted
44:11an alliance with the ADMK
44:12which the Congress rank and
44:13file did not want it they
44:14broke away and that they
44:15formed a TMC I was part of
44:17it I cut my teeth in the
44:18formation of TMC but that
44:19did not happen that
44:27then in fact when we
44:28negotiated with the DMK
44:29everybody was clamoring for
44:30more seats when seats were
44:32numbers were agreed upon
44:34everybody was clamoring for
44:35specific constituencies when
44:37specific constituencies was
44:38being talked about they
44:41wanted specific candidates
44:42in constituencies so the
44:43whole party was well was
44:45very much was very much
44:47into the whole thing to
44:47somehow to say one person
44:49or two people or some
44:50people of a certain age
44:51took the decision as
44:52wrong it was a decision
44:53taken by everybody even
44:54post that we had a
44:56Rajsepa member we had a
44:57Rajsepa member elected by
44:58that alliance as well in
44:59the previous assembly so we
45:00were whole hog into it
45:02yes we
45:02So you are saying the
45:04decision to not go along
45:06with Vijay was not taken
45:08unilaterally there was a
45:09broad consensus you all
45:10took every opinion into
45:11account you you say that
45:13in hindsight maybe I ask
45:16you very spare a short
45:17answer do you agree that
45:18you might have been better
45:19of going with Vijay and if
45:21you do go along with him
45:22now will this be a
45:23permanent alliance or a
45:24short-term alliance only to
45:25get into power as our
45:28letter clearly says we're
45:29looking at a long-term
45:31relationship but as I also
45:32said it's not just for
45:33power we are respecting the
45:35mandate of the people of
45:36Tamil Nadu people of
45:37Tamil Nadu are voted for
45:38change but they want the
45:39change to be led by Vijay
45:41with the aid and assistance
45:42of other parties which
45:43are also secular and that's
45:45what we are doing we are
45:46not just doing it of course
45:47if there is a there is an
45:49opportunity for the
45:50congress party to
45:51participate in government of
45:52course we'll take it we are
45:53going to participate in that
45:54but we are also respecting the
45:56fundamental point is we're
45:57respecting the mandate of the
45:58people and we are not
45:59backstabbing the DMK because
46:01we are not depriving the DMK of
46:03anything one final question
46:04is your real aim to keep the
46:06BJP out there's talk that the
46:08BJP would also in some way
46:11want to control what happens in
46:12Tamil Nadu and that's why
46:14that's why you all have
46:15worked so far moved so fast
46:16for once to give a letter of
46:18support yes that is one that
46:20is one of our primary reasons
46:22of moving so swiftly is
46:24because we want to make sure
46:25that the new government is
46:26secular you're making an
46:28important point you feared
46:29that the BJP would reach out
46:31to Vijay before they could
46:32you've done it they don't have
46:33the numbers themselves but
46:34they would have used the
46:35AIDMK they would have used
46:36the AIDMK to reach out
46:38they have their proxies and
46:39we don't want we didn't want
46:41that situation but most
46:42importantly TVK reached out
46:44to us please let's be let's
46:45be very clear TVK is the one
46:47who's seeking our support
46:48and we are responding to
46:49that in a in a responsible
46:51manner respecting the mandate
46:52of the people of
46:53Tamil Nadu okay you keep
46:54saying you're respecting the
46:56mandate of the of the people
46:58of Tamil Nadu Congress got
46:59five seats remember in
47:01alliance with DMK and
47:02Vijay's got 107 so we'll see
47:05how this all plays out
47:06Vijay interestingly I can tell
47:09you Mr. Chidhamram seems to
47:10be keeping all his options
47:11open he's already proving to
47:13be a bit of a consummate
47:14politician I mean I'm sure
47:17he'll he'll he'll grow into
47:19the role are you surprised by
47:21his victory honestly did you
47:23did you ever anticipate 100
47:25plus I had a certain
47:27percentage in mind he exceeded
47:29that percentage I thought that
47:30eventually his campaign will
47:32not have the momentum and
47:33surge they he proved me wrong
47:35by having a momentum and
47:36surge and also he's rewritten the
47:38rules of campaign in Tamil Nadu
47:39this was a candidate agnostic
47:41election he did about seven
47:43concert style road shows hardly
47:45addressed the press use social
47:47media very extensively most
47:49importantly what what I learned
47:51from this election is that
47:52micro campaigning within
47:53household seems to work which
47:55is a VG definitely leveraged I've
47:57learned that from this election okay
47:58I'm going to leave it there
48:00Karthi Chidham Ram they're speaking
48:01here to India today thank you very
48:03much saying that the primary aim of
48:05the Congress to ally with Vijay is
48:08to apparently keep out communal
48:10elements from the new Tamil Nadu
48:13government which way will Vijay go
48:15we'll wait and see for now back to the
48:19studio news is obsessed with politics but
48:27we should not forget that we exist
48:29because stories of people come above
48:32everything else which is why we've
48:33taken a break from politics to bring
48:35you this report this is a story of a
48:38four-year-old visiting her grandmother's
48:40home for summer holidays lured away
48:42with the promise of food and what
48:45followed is just too brutal to fully
48:48put into words a cattle shed in poor
48:52a four-year-old girl sexually assaulted
48:54and murdered with stone a tiny body
48:57hidden under a heap of cow dunk man who
49:01did this is 65 years old repeat
49:04offender booked for molestation in
49:071998 and again in 2015 and acquitted
49:10both times the system let him walk free
49:14and a child paid the price with her
49:17life the entire village has shut down
49:21highways are blocked people are on the
49:24streets rightly so the anger is so
49:26justified not just demanding justice but
49:29demanding what the accused hi why was he
49:33handed over why was he given a free
49:37charge given his history even his own
49:40family has turned his back against the
49:42rapist here calling for the harshest
49:45punishment but here's what makes this
49:47even more chilling even as the nation
49:51reels from the horror of poor another
49:53child nine years old allegedly targeted
49:57in the same city inside her own home
50:02the anger of what's unfolding in
50:05Pune in those visuals that you see is
50:07not unfounded because the data doesn't
50:11lie the Poxo cases in Pune have been
50:13rising and the months before you know
50:16crime multiple series of attacks on
50:19minors were already being reported but
50:21what has happened with these stories
50:24really begs us to ask the question that
50:27every parent in the country is perhaps
50:29asking themselves is this just a failure
50:31of law in order or have we as a society
50:34failed our children in a way that goes far
50:37far deeper remember one of this
50:40happened inside their own home our
50:43report tracks the horror and the fury on
50:46the streets and also the urgent reckoning
50:48on child safety that can no longer be
50:52delayed not in Pune not in India
51:06a crime so brutal it has shaken the
51:09nation's conscience in Pune a three
51:13year old child lured assaulted and
51:16murdered a horror that is difficult to
51:20process and a question that refuses to go
51:24away police say a 65 year old laborer
51:28lured the child with food took her to a
51:33cattle shed where the unthinkable
51:35unfolded her body later found hidden the
51:39accused is now in custody the family is
51:43demanding death penalty
51:59accused own family has now disowned him
52:25African Americanusionment
52:28a social
52:30rights
52:31work
52:43And even as the anger spilled to the streets with thousands demanding justice, highways
52:51blocked.
52:53An SIT has now been formed with a senior woman officer leading the probe.
53:01But this is not just about one case.
53:04Even as Pune reeled, another shock.
53:09A nine-year-old targeted at home.
53:12The accused, her grandfather.
53:16Alarm raised, locals rushed in.
53:18He fled and was later caught.
53:20And now, he's in custody.
53:25Two incidents, one city.
53:28One, a horror that could not be stopped.
53:31The other, an attack that was narrowly prevented.
53:35But both pointing to the same chilling reality.
53:40The question remains, how long before India's betis get some safety and justice?
53:47With Ankita Agar, Bureau Report, India Today.
53:54The coronavirus hit a few years ago.
53:54A block of fire.
54:02The ninth issue is connected to the central center of the country.
54:02The main stop is being contacted.
54:02The rencontre of the city has been assaulted.
54:02The second point is, you have to enter the country.
54:02It's an integral part of the city's mission to do this.
