00:00The Attorney General's Chambers has withdrawn its appeals against Deputy Prime Minister
00:07Datuk Shri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
00:11The appeal was relating to his acquittal from 40 charges of corruption linked to the foreign
00:16visa system, VLN.
00:18Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Yousaini Amer Abdul Karim informed a three-judge panel of
00:23the Court of Appeal that the prosecution intended to withdraw all of the appeals.
00:28Justice Che Mohamad Ruzima Ghazali, who chaired the panel, then made an order to strike out
00:33the appeals.
00:34Meeting with reporters after the judgment, Zahid said he is grateful for the decision.
00:58He then allowed his lead defence lawyer, Datuk Hisham Teh Poteik, to detail the morning's
01:12proceedings.
01:13We made two representations to the AG's chambers for the appeals to be withdrawn, and this
01:19morning we are grateful to the AG's chambers, to the Honourable Attorney General, for considering
01:26the representations on a positive basis and withdraw all the appeals.
01:30Essentially, the appeals are fact-sensitive, emphasised by the learned prosecutor earlier
01:36on that these are findings of fact made by His Lordship, and His Lordship did not make
01:42any errors whatsoever in these findings when His Lordship acquitted Datuk Shri at the pre-murphy
01:47stage.
01:48We are grateful.
01:50He added that the judgment came as a good surprise for Zahid and his defence team.
