00:00The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service in a statement on Thursday says it has successfully
00:06disrupted another organized home invasion crew, this time one targeting communities in South
00:13Trinidad. The TTPS had said after four home invasion suspects were fatally shot in Canoopia
00:19last week that the tall boots crew operating in Central Division was dismantled. On Wednesday
00:26night, it says a shootout with more suspected bandits, this time in Marabella, left one dead
00:32and two others arrested. Last night's operation followed reports that an elderly woman was beaten
00:39and robbed at her Belloma Gasparillo home by four masked bandits around 10 a.m. Wednesday. Officers
00:47who responded initiated an investigation. And around 9.25 p.m., a team, including members of
00:55the Southern Division Task Force Emergency Response and Tactical Unit, and other Southern Division
01:01officers acted on information that a group of men armed with illegal firearms were about to launch
01:07another home invasion at the Union Park East Marabella community. Upon arrival, the TTPS says
01:15officers encountered about eight men gathered in a yard who, on seeing the officers, attempted to flee
01:21into nearby bushes. During the pursuit, two armed suspects pointed firearms at officers, resulting in a
01:28confrontation which left one of the suspects dead, and a revolver loaded with six rounds of .38
01:35ammunition recovered. Two other suspects were arrested at the scene, a 24-year-old of Quarry Road Gasparillo
01:43and a 20-year-old of Union Park East Marabella, who was found with a cell phone believed to have
01:49been
01:50stolen during the Gasparillo home invasion earlier that day. Commenting on this latest incident,
01:57Police Commissioner Alistair Guevara says the TTPS is aggressively pursuing the misguided individuals who
02:04are hell-bent on targeting law-abiding citizens in their homes. He stated, quote,
02:09Let me be clear that the TTPS will not allow home invasion gangs to terrorize the elderly,
02:16the vulnerable or any law-abiding citizen. Yesterday's attack in Belloma Village was cowardly
02:23and calculated, but our officers moved with precision and within hours the suspects responsible
02:30were intercepted. When armed criminals choose to point guns at police officers, they alone determine
02:38the outcome. The message is simple. If you engage in violence, my officers will defend themselves
02:44and the citizens of our beloved country, end quote. Cindy Raghubar Tika Singh, TV6 News.
